ogata moodboard made from semi old russian memes i've had saved for ages. translations in alt text and under the cut (with context where needed)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"AAAHAAAA I'M AN IDIOT LOOK AT MEEEE!!" "looking."
"drowned in what i have created"
"come on mimick my behavior i'm your mother after all" "i'll be mimicking the behavior of the strange shadowy figures because they're around much more than you mom"
"what am i living for" (alternate translation: "why am i alive") context for this: taken from a post years and years ago that had, i believe, a picture of a yoghurt that said "yoghurt with thoughts" instead of "yoghurt with muesli", because "thoughts" in russian is "misli"
"you're so unique, i wonder what's going on inside you" "nothing" (fucking nothing)" "lol"
"depressed?" (in russian, we say "in depression?") "do i fucking look like i know where i am"
"you're an embarrassment to the prestigious profession of pathetic nobodies" this one was taken from a meme page that posted quotes from russian YTPs edited onto aesthetic photos. and i do believe this is ogata's attitude to fellow soldiers
"go fuck yourself" "wait stay". this is funnier in russian because it literally reads "go to dick" "stay". also both messages use the formal respectful way of addressing someone in russian
the print on the door: "OOO A Path To Yourself" (the "OOO" means it's the title of a business). the sign: "away from yourself" (this is how we mark "push" doors in russian)

I've been quiet these days... It's because I co-wrote and published a bilingual children's book set in my home country! Written in English and Spanish, my book is titled JUANITA and it's about the contemporary migrant experience in the Caribbean from a child's perspective.
Tumblr media
JUANITA is the ideal tool for both children and adults to learn English or Spanish as a second language. It features a main story, reading comprehension questions, vocabulary lists, and written reflection exercises.
And guess what! It's available right now worldwide on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback format!

Give us a purchase, rate, and review if you would like! For language learners and people looking for Hispanic and/or Caribbean representation, JUANITA is my recommendation to you!

anyway the construct of the US as a monolingual anglophone nation is on multiple levels a white supremacist construct long before it is a reality

what would be the main topics of argument between jean and wymack, do you think? would kevin try to play mediator or just completely ignore them?
ANYTHING REALLY.... but i feel like the most trending topic for them to argue over is exy, because jean's opinion of the foxes never truly improves besides that kevin's addition (and, begrudgingly, andrew and neil, but he'd never say it with all the words) is the only good thing about their lineup. he offers no real suggestions on how to better it but he has an endless well of criticism that makes wymack want to climb up the walls. talking to jean makes him think that coach rhemann is a saint, and kevin even more so
i think kevin does make a point to move closer to wymack at some point in their professional career/post-retirement and jean is not unhappy about this but he's not entirely happy either. they will learn to tolerate each other and they will spend many christmas dinners and new year's eves and birthdays and baby showers together, and maybe along the way as they grow older they will realize that their resentment of each other is more for the sake of old times than any real reason :-)
re: kevin. he absolutely does not play mediator and has to very pointedly stay out of it if he doesn't want either to feel as if he's picked a side. the only person i can see caring to mediate is abby, and jean respects her enough to drop any subject if she asks him to, so it all works out. if they're getting Too into it though kevin is known to fake a headache (or any type of minor injury) to redirect their attention

Only Child・一人っ子
Tumblr media

My daughter’s 8th cousin was born. She still has no siblings. My husband and I both want one more child. Sometimes my daughter says she wants a baby, but she also admits, “I can play by myself!”
I have a brother and sister, so I always felt a little bad about someone being an only child. Isn’t that kind of funny? I’m the youngest, and my siblings picked on me almost every day. “I hate you!” I always said to my brother and sister. So, why did I think only children were pitiful? I grew up in the woods, so, aside from my brother and sister, there was no one else to play with. Even though we fought every day, I still felt glad I had them.
My dad is one of three, but neither his younger sister nor younger brother had kids. When I was little, my dad’s parents, brother, and sister all lived on a farm. Until I turned 7, my family also lived in a small house on the same land. I have good memories of riding my aunts horses, swimming in the river, and running around in the fields.
My mom is one of five, and I have 9 cousins on her side. During summer break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, we’d all get together and have a lot of fun playing. We’d spend summer break at the beach, and Christmas at my grandparents’ house. When all the cousins gathered, we’d play outside, go for bike rides, play video games, and do all sorts of noisy fun things together.
My daughter doesn’t have any siblings, but she does have cousins. I don't think she’ll feel lonely. Even if they live far away, she can write letters or video chat with them and build strong relationships. My daughter may be an only child, but she lives in a city. I don’t think she’ll feel lonely. There are plenty of kids for her to play with at preschool and in our neighborhood, so she has friends. I still want one more child, but, even if my daughter is an only child forever, I don’t think of only children as pitiful anymore.

I think it'd be really cool if Peri could just,,, instinctively understand Vegimalese since he spent so much time around the Vegimals as a developing baby, and even now.
bonus if he can also talk back to them.

the person behind me is having a whispered conversation with someone and their desk and my brain keeps trying to go down the path “oh no it’s because they’re talking about how much they hate me!” and i keep having to drag it back to the extremely obvious and fully rational “oh they’re trying not to disrupt anyone’s work, super appreciate them for that”.
like human brains are for real the dumbest, most terrified little animals in existence. calm the fuck down my dude our colleagues aren’t going to kick us out of the cave to fend for ourselves against the cold and sabre-tooth tigers.
#i don’t usually have that brand of anxiety anymore#and i’m not even feeling anxious now#it’s just my brain’s instinctive reaction#and i’m stopping it in its tracks going ‘girl…….’#that being said i’ve never understood people’s brains concluding that people speaking in a foreign language = they’re talking about you#maybe it’s because i spent most of my childhood as an immigrant speaking a foreign language#albeit one that is well understood by much of the local population#or maybe it’s because i’ve spent many many hours in the company of family members speaking languages i don’t understand#and attending 3 hour church services held in languages i don’t understand#but yeah#i always find it more comforting than anything#comforting in the way i find hearing children playing comforting#anyway the only time i’ve actually heard people talking about me in another language#is when local dutch kids would be talking shit about me and my friends speaking english together#we were all of us bilingual so we understood them of course#and always made sure to throw something out in dutch to each other as we left#so that the shit talkers knew that we had understood them#and knew just how dumb they sounded for it#(obvsly people could have in fact been talking about me in a foreign language at other times#and not understanding that language i wouldn’t have known about it#but i know from experience of having been the foreign language speaker that the odds are simply much higher#that people are in fact talking about chores or shopping lists or cousin x’s second child’s graduation or whatever)

Two Languages, One Future: Raising Bilingual Children
In the contemporary Philippines, a fascinating trend has emerged: an increasing emphasis on English language acquisition among children. Many parents are now prioritizing their children’s proficiency in English, often with the belief that it will pave the way for a brighter future. They take pride in their children’s ability to converse in English, even if the grammar and vocabulary used are less…

💚 Juanita: a bilingual children's book 💚
This is a bilingual children's book, written in both English and Spanish, which is set in Trinidad and Tobago. I wrote this with three of my friends after working with Venezuelan migrant children in a few UNICEF-led programmes here in the Caribbean. Juanita is perfect for teaching your little ones Spanish and/or English language skills and about Caribbean culture! And there's a cat in it!
Juanita is set in Trinidad and Tobago, features Latina rep, West Indian rep, disability rep, and is great at addressing the conflicting emotions migrant children often experience.
