Did some small (literally small; they are like an inch across) experiments with plastic bits we picked up at the beach. I arranged them on shrinking plastic pieces and melted it together in the oven. I wanted to test what temp is good for melting the plastic just enough to stick together, not so hot it melts into blobs. Of course, different plastics are softer or harder, but I think I got a feel for that too.

The Ringo kids really enjoyed using their hands for art tonight! Tracing their hands and cutting the paper was good practice, but the main event was decorating around the page and the big SPLAT handprint 😸

Another fun event at Marine Pia Labo in Tarumi, Kobe. All except one of the kids who painted postcards with me were under five years old. They did great!

Of course, my own kid made her fair share of postcards as my assistant.

It was rainy all day, so I worried that the numbers of people who come by shuttle bus or on foot and therefore pass by the Labo would be small, but in the end lots of people stopped in to do some art!

At Ringo tonight, we drew with white crayons and used watercolor over top. I did one flowery fox as an example for the students, and then I got carried away making two more.

Ringo Art Club took a trip to the Mitsui Outlet Park in Tarumi today! Four different teachers, many different crafts! It was fun seeing what the other teachers and artist friends of Ringo do, and we enjoyed supporting each other when many visitors chose their crafts.

At art class tonight, the kids made Hinaningyo, special dolls for Japan’s Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival). It was my daughter’s request! The kids’ creations were more diverse than the typical dolls 😂

I made fox people instead.

Finally added zippers to the chair covers! I used zippers from old futon covers. It’s amazing how many uses zippers can handle!

Still really love the pockets on the back. My kid loves storing her colored pencils and stuff in them!

This student has been coming to my art class for three years. I don’t think I’ve really taught her anything, just provided her with materials and let her be amazing. (She’s in 5th grade, btw!!)

Oh my gosh! I forgot to stitch the fox’s nose! Added.

Too chilly to go outside. Decided to do a little foxy embroidery

My daughter loves those dress-up sticker things, but they always come with way more outfits than girls to dress up. So tonight I decided to draw more figures for her to put outfits on! She said she would color the hair and draw the faces, so that’s what we did.

She enjoyed drawing lots of eye makeup on the girls, and I was glad the stickers came with hands and arms in various poses so I didn’t have to draw them! 😅

Another kid in our art class draws or makes dinosaurs almost every week, and today my daughter felt inspired by the big dinopedia.

I’m not sure if she ever really tried to draw dinosaurs before, but I really love these things she made today!!

My daughter picked a Pokémon out of her 図鑑 and asked me to make it out of clay. シェイミ turned kit pretty great, I think!
