If fablehaven was mermaids this is what I think their mermaid tales would look like: Kendra: Its color changes depending on the temperature of the water, colder is more sapphire blue, lukewarm emerald green, warm gold, and hot is ruby red (I say this because kendra’s favorite colors changes, as we see with the wizenstone, so her tail kinda reflects that). When she becomes fairykind, her scales are laced with some kind of ultraviolet bioluminescent color that only some fish can see Seth: he’d be like a ghost pipefish. They can camouflage very well into their environment and are very hard to spot in the wild. I think he’d blend in with the seagrass very often when he and kendra are playing hide and seek. When he becomes a shadow charmer, he is able to survive in colder water temperatures (ghost pipefish usually live in about 22.1-29 degrees C but don’t quote me on that) Lena: I think she would be a dolphin because they are very playful in nature, and I think that’s what naiads intend to be (though they think drowning people is their idea of fun) plus she goes to the surface a lot as a dolphin Stan: flatfish because he can’t stop making pancakes for breakfast 😭 Ruth: i think she would have a crimson-colored tail, and this is a dumb reason but it’s because I feel like the color red fits her character well. Like it matches her personality (or what I remember of it) Dale: Green like the color of kelp, as he tends to the farm all day Warren: a great white Shark. Probably has some scars because he’s literally a knight of the dawn. Idk what else to say Tanu: some color of koi because they remind me of splashes which reminds me of potions Vanessa: Multicolored betta fish, but her tail color could change depending on who she’s possessing Bracken: Pearlescent, icy blue, or some combination of the two Ronodin: Inky black with flecks of gold and/or maroon Calvin: some species of minnow. I can’t decide what because I don’t get a specific color vibe from him Eve: Midnight blue. She is literally the [Eve]ning Lemme know if I should add any other characters or if you have a different idea for what their mermaid tails would look like!

Junker queen: she's always wanted a dog, and after being introduced to a new game by y/n she decided on the one she wanted. A German Shepard! She did a ton of research on them and got one from a shelter with only three legs, she ended up creating a junker leg for it and help from mercy getting it attached safely. She named him Dogmeat, based on her new favorite game, fallout 4.

Orisa: she wasn't big on the idea of having a pet, due to the fear of her size being an issue for such a small creature. However that changed when she encountered a Boston terrier puppy on a mission last spring. The small dog was full of energy and refused to leave Orisas side even when she tried to shoot it away. But eventually followed her onto the airship where she gave him and wanted to take care of them. She eventually named him Winston after an animated short film about a Boston terrier that another overwatch agent had shown her. (Much to Winston's confusion.)

Ramattra: He has an ant farm that was gifted to him from y/n after he mentioned his fascination of the tiny creatures. He cares for them dearly, and is often dozing off just watching them work throughout their colony in his office. He's not named them, as there is far too many, but when he's observing them you can faintly catch him mumbling their job titles with praise.

Reinhardt: He's got a sweet old golden retriever he rescued from a shelter, she was twelve when he adopted her and no one seemed to want the older dog which broke his heart. He was told to expect maybe another good year or two before the 'inevitable', however she's turning sixteen in a week now. Her name is Tillie.

Zarya: she took in an adult cat from a fellow agent that had sadly fallen in battle, one she was relatively close to. The cat was a nebelung and quite pampered, however he seems to adora Zarya as much as she does him. An elegant grey ball of fluff that constantly curls up to her side after her training sessions or missions. His name is Pietro, and for some reason he does not seem to like Ramattra.

Roadhog: he has two rats, one is a light cream color with a darker brown splotch on his right side. And the other is white and black spotted with little streaks of brown by her tail. Their names are junk and pile, and he found them in a box in the rain while on a mission. No one really noticed at first when he had gotten back on the airship until they were about halfway back to base and realized he was holding his hands out and just staring at was in his palms. Every now and again you'll see him walking around base with them on his shoulders and they just sit there and observe.

D.va: she has a bunny, it's actually one that she unintentionally saved while on a raiding mission against Talon. She ended up in moira's lab which had been abandoned when the alarms were set off, and it was the only one that seemed to be left in the room inside a cage where it was scared and hiding in the corner. Her name is June and she enjoys occasionally riding in D.vas mech with her. June absolutely hates hearing the name Moira now.

Sigma: he has a betta fish, specifically an alien betta. Sombra noticed that sigma had been pretty lonely while doing research in his lab on his own. So she surprised him with a whole betta setup, and made sure he knew everything that was needed to take care of it. It was a brilliant green color and sigma was overjoyed when she presented him the fish. He adoringly named her plutonium, and spends hours upon hours just talking to his betta fish about all of his research and findings and hypotheses. Plutonium does respond by swimming in circles whenever he gets excited and if she's bored she floats upside down.

I feel like Shin is a pet guy.

I imagine him owning a lot of different things. He's a cat person, so a cat is on the table, but I could also see him enjoying a simpler pet like a betta fish. I could see him as a lizard or turtle person, too. He seems like the type to get a turtle in childhood without knowing their lifespan, and then twenty years later, he has a pet that will likely outlive him.

What I can't see him owning is anything classified as a farm animal. I also don't think he'd want to own a dog simply because of how much exercise they need. I don't think he'd be a bird person either because they're loud and messy, but I still think he'd own a bird before an animal that needed to be walked daily.

I am genderfluid (they/them) and bisexual. I have short curly black hair with brown/hazel (idk I've been told I have both?) eyes. I'm pale, 5'3 and on the more chubby side. I wear glasses because I'm blind and can't see shit.

I have dyslexia and probably autism but I haven't got tested so Idk. Math has always been very hard for me to understand it in do great in subjects like history.

I am very introverted and tend to avoid social interactions, and I tend to be very judgemental and once I don't like you, I don't like you and will probably never like you. I can be spiteful but id never be outwardly rude of shit talk someone because I tend to freeze up during confrontation but I don't let anyone walk on me, i stand my ground and pick my battles wisely. Im very quiet and have been told I am a great listener and would make a good therapist. While in school I would go weeks without saying a single word but then when I got home it was like I couldn't shut up. Speaking in a public setting is genuinely terrifying to me and it feels like my mouth and glued shut whenever I try to. I am very connected to the environment and its creatures, and feel like I'm able to trust and get along with other animals better then I am people. My one big goal in life is to start a farm/animal rescue. Some of my favorite animals are alligators and crocodiles, and I could probably spill facts about them for hours if someone let me. I tend to be very protective of my things and schedule and get upset when people disrupt or move things. I have a spot for everything and if something isn't in it's spot or gets rearranged somewhere else I get anxious. I collect a lot of things and grow attached to them quickly. I am immensely independent because I am afraid of asking for help. I know exactly what i want and what i need, and I'll manage to do anything to get it. Humor and laughter is a key part of me and what i seek in life. But also trust and loyalty, those are all qualities i possess and seek in others. I tend to overthink sometimes and get paranoid about people leaving me.

My hobbies include art, I like to draw silly little doodles of things. video games, two or my favorite games are doom and silent hill 2. And I enjoyed caring for and spending time with my pets, which I have a lot of. 4 dog, 3 cats, 4 betta fish, 8 chickens, a wild turtle that lives in my backyard, and a bearded dragon. Im planning on getting a Jacksons chameleon and some goats when I have the space.

They KNOW this shit comes from cows. But wearing cow skin is disturbing to them. Cow's gonna die anyway. So you're sacrificing the lives of countless fish to save the hide of one cow who's still gonna die, except its hide will rot instead of being put to use. Fucking wasteful.

Tbh there's a common thing of fish not being considered "worthy" of life though. Look at betta bowls, goldfish bowls, fish being given away as rewards at carnivals. A lot of people consider fish more on par with insects in the compassion department despite their intelligence and ability to feel pain and socially bond. And vegans/ARAs MASSIVELY show their hand and morals when they buy pleather knowing the environmental impact is has on microplastics in the ocean, but I guess the life of a few thousand fish aren't more important that the life of one cow who's gonna die anyway ay?

They bitch about the biggest impact to the environment? It's pollution. You're not polluting shit when you take an animal's hide and tan it and make it into a vest or shoes or what have you. But pleather? The entire production process is pollution.

But vegans don't care cuz they don't have to think about it. That's pretty par the course. "Plant food is humane" while ignoring the pollution from pesticides, the billions of animals killed every year from combine machines like deer and foxes and wildlife, to pesticides, to the people like me who are hired to shoot wildlife what feed on plant crops so it can reach THEIR tables.

Miss me with that "It's grown to feed livestock too." I was a stockman and all the cattle and sheep I ever drove were free-range grazed.

Here is my first attempt at grappling with an eel!

I really have given fish short shrift so far! Just one published goldfish that barely counts, an unreleased betta, and two other unpublished motifs where the fish is an anonymous snack. No good at all!

I do have a handful of farm animals that I did back in very early days but haven't written up yet…

…and if I were a more sensible kind of person i'd just add a cow, a turkey, a sheep, a sheepdog, a barn cat and a rooster, plus or minus—and call it Farm Friends. Country Colleagues. Instead, I'm over here having a tortured ontological debate with myself only about what constitutes a "farm animal:"

Charles Lee Ray Jr: CJ has several different pets of different varieties. For one, he shares pets with his partners! Bethy's pittie, Jethro, and Fiery's bearded dragon, Elmo. He loves both pets very much and makes sure to take care of both. The pets that would be closest to his own are also Bethy's farm animals, specifically the pigs, all from a litter of piglets. They have five, and he honestly adores them, and named them all. Dorian, Rocko, Lenore, Alice, and Shaggy. All named after different medias he loves, all with their own personalities and he loves every one. He's not even afraid to get dirty with them, and they're very loyal to him, Bethy, and Fiery.

Bonny Elizabeth Ray: Bonny has one pet and that is a longhair black cat named Jubilee, who she often accessorizes in cute little kitty goth collars and costumes, when she's comfortable ofc.

Kandice Elizabeth Ray: Kandy has a bird! A male blue and golden macaw who you often will see on her shoulder, who she named Buddy, because he is indeed her buddy and she loves him so much. She often talks to him and teaches him new words, and buys him new toys.

Beatrice Marie Ray: Betty has only one pet (though she's thinking of getting more) and that's a beautiful Betta fish who she named Georgia. Georgia has a HUGE tank and Betty makes sure her girl has everything she needs to be happy and play.

Glen Hades Ray: Glen has several pets! They have three rats, Josuke, Poppy, and Wybie. They are all beloved and spoiled, and have TONS of space where they can play and have all the fun they want. She also has two female river otters named Lagoona and Abbey who they also spoil rotten with tons of water space and fish, and of course, love.

Glenda Eileen Ray: Glenda has more different animals... Like an alligator, named Gummy, though unlike who he's named after, this Gummy has many many rows of teeth. Glenda adores their baby and makes sure he has all the swamp he needs. She also has a chiweenie named Bruno who you will often see in her purse, also very spoiled and adored and often put in adorable little outfits and fed filet mignon.

Anthony James Ray: Tony has a pet turtle name Smaug! He loves just chilling on Tony's chest while he's reading or swimming around and doing tricks. Tony loves him a lot.

Namibia 2023/24 - Vorbericht

Herrschaften und Oukies!!!

Es geht bald wieder los. Dieses Mal in den Süden Namibias bis runter zum Fish River Canyon, natürlich auch nach Lüderitz und im weiteren Verlauf wieder zu unseren Freunden nach Swakopmund.

Wie immer machen wir auch dieses Mal eine selbstgebastelte Rundreise mit einem Toyota Hilux 4x4 als Leihwagen - ohne Dachzelt, denn wir sind "Warmduscher" und wollen im weichen Bettchen schlafen.

Außerdem fährt in diesem Jahr meine Mutter mit, die sich - nach dem Tod meines Vaters - von uns gewünscht hatte, dass wir ihr dieses Land, von dem wir immer erzählen, doch einmal zeigen. Diesen Wunsch erfüllen wir ihr gerne.    

Wenn alles klappt, wie geplant, die Airline Eurowings Discover (die Airline heißt seit neuestem nur noch Discover) auch schön mitspielt und sonst nichts dazwischen kommt, sollte dem Abflug in Frankfurt nichts im Wege stehen.

Auch wenn wir jetzt nicht die größten Fans von Eurowings Discover sind, ist diese leider die einzige verbliebene non-stopp Verbindung nach Windhoek - weltweit!

Ab dem 14.12. heißt es dann wieder:

Die geplante Tour führt uns dieses Mal zu verschiedenen Zielen, die wir schon immer einmal besuchen oder noch einmal besuchen wollten, da sie uns so gut gefielen.

Hier unsere Stationen der diesjährigen Reise:

1. Farm Heimat (1. Besuch): gelegen nur rund 1 Stunde südöstlich des Flughafens, in der Kalahari, und damit ideal zu Beginn oder zum Ende der Reise.

2. Lapa Lange Lodge (2. Besuch): gelegen rund 30 Kilometer süd-östlich der Stadt Mariental, ebenfalls in der Kalahari beheimatet. Sehr schönes Wasserloch und zahme Geparde (Handaufzuchten).

3. Kalahari Game Lodge (2. Besuch): wie der Name schon suggeriert, in der Kalahari beheimatet und bekannt für das Löwen Projekt und nur 20 Kilometer vor der Grenze zu Südafrika gelegen.

4. Canyon Roadhouse (2. Besuch): seit Jahrzehnten schon der Klassiker am Fish River Canyon. Von allen Unterkünften der Gondwana Kette, die am nächsten zum Canyon gelegene Lodge.

5. Lüderitz (2. Besuch), Unterkunft: Zur Waterkant (1. Besuch). Von Lüderitz ausgehend wurde das Land ‘Deutsch-Südwest’ besiedelt. Die Vorfahren der Inhaberfamilie des Gästehauses gehörten zu den ersten Siedlern des Landes.

6. At Kronenhof Lodge (1. Besuch): eine recht neue Unterkunft, gelegen in der Namib Wüste, Nahe der Ortschaft Betta, bei den Vierzinken Bergen.

7. Sesriem (3. Besuch), Desert Camp (2. Besuch): Der „Ort“ besteht im wesentlichen aus einigen Unterkünften in der näheren und entfernteren Umgebung und ist das Eingangstor zum UNESCO Welterbe Sossusvlei.

8. Swakopmund, Chala Kigi (8. Besuch): gelegen an der kalten Atlantikküste. Swakop wird wegen seiner Jugendstilarchitektur auch scherzhaft als das südlichste Seebad Deutschlands bezeichnet. 

9. Erongo Gebirge (4. Besuch), Otjohotozu Gästefarm (1. Besuch): Das Gebirge ist eine Bergformation vulkanischen Ursprungs mit vielen unterschiedlichen Granitlandschaften.

10. Etosha (3. Besuch), Okutala Lodge (1. Besuch): Mit einer Größe von über 22.000 qkm ist der Etosha Nationalpark eines der größten Naturreservate Afrikas. 

11. Okahandja, Otjisazu Gästefarm (1. Besuch): zum Abschluss der Reise noch einmal eine Gästefarm, die ihren Ursprung in einer ehemaligen Missionsstation aus dem Jahre 1872 hat.

Je nach Internet-Verbindung wird unser Blog dann möglichst täglich wieder über unsere Reise berichten. Traditionell ist das Internet in Namibia ja eher lahm, es wird gelegentlich sogar behauptet, dass hier noch mit Dampfmaschinen gearbeitet wird.

Unser Reisebericht ist für alle gedacht, die einen ähnlichen Urlaub planen oder die gern wissen möchten, was man auf so einer Reise erleben kann - und natürlich für unsere Lieben daheim & in der Ferne.
