with the graphic novels i’m being prompted again to consider trc tv show teaser trailer concept that has lived in my brain for?? over a year at this point??
just imagine. a sleepy virginian small town from above, a girl pedaling down the sidewalk on a bike. blue’s voice narrating as we slowly get closer.
“being the only normal one in a psychic family is bad enough.” cut to blue’s face as she rides. “what’s worse is being the one with a curse.”
a series of quick flashbacks of various women looking nervous, sad, and/or apologetic to blue at varying ages. maura’s voice. “if you kiss your true live, he will die.”
blue, on her bike, skids to a halt near aglionby academy. she watches the boys in their fancy uniforms and their arrogant smiles, their raven emblems. still narrating, she says, “so i have two rules. one, don’t talk to boys, because they’re trouble. and don’t talk to raven boys, because they’re bastards.”
she pushes off again. pan out to a darkening, cloudy sky. “you can’t outrun fate. but i didn’t expect it to find me so soon.”
the graveyard, st mark’s eve, with the dead marching past. then blue’s perspective, of only one lone boy, and neeve hisses, “take his name. he’ll die within the year.”
blue follows as the camera zeroes in on the boy’s face, his aglionby sweater, his rain-soaked shoulders. he stumbles to his knee, fingers splayed in the dirt. blue asks, “what’s your name?”
“gansey.”
the screen goes black.
“is that all?”
“that’s all there is.”
music slams in alongside a montage of scenes, gansey, ronan, adam, noah. these have some dialogue and are long enough to establish their personalities and relationships with each other. mostly generic/immediately pre-canon things like the dolly/car dragging incident, but also a few early book one scenes. included near the beginning is gansey asking, “what do you know about welsh kings?” and explaining, “legend says he’s only sleeping, and whoever wakes him gets a favor.”
blue’s voice comes back near the middle of that: “i have my rules. we were never supposed to meet.”
half-second flashes of her meeting gansey in nino’s, adam outside in the parking lot, whenever she met ronan and noah officially.
“i guess i was never any good at following the rules.”
another montage like before, now showing all of them in various scenes from book one, getting faster, more jumbled, and soundless except for the music as we go. it culminates in flashes of the cabeswater scene, completely incomprehensible but full of fear. in the end, adam lands on his knees in the forest, hands splayed in the dirt. gansey’s voice screams, “adam!”
screen goes black again. blue says, “this is a year people die.”
[the raven cycle, coming 20XX]
#the raven cycle#the raven boys#blue sargent#richard campbell gansey iii#adam parrish#look its very blue centric but to be FAIR the main plot IS#i didnt pick up trc for a while bc i thought it would be all bluesey no fun#im emulating that#also it felt like the best way at the time to establish the basic storyline#also i had to include a little adansey moment that cabeswater scene….#also lmao i dont know how scripts or movies work#i just really want trc tv show#i think it would be very good animated for magic purposes#live action would be SO fun but theres so much potential to get it wrong#the most vivid and important part#To Me#is gansey saying ‘thats all there is’ to a black screen#like fuckkkkkk dude#i saw another fake trailer script once and that was how they Ended it which is also mmm good

Silent Rage (1982)
"John killed him, right? Didn't he?"
"I don't care if he murdered a hundred people. We're scientists, not moralists. You know that we're all expendable. John Kirby is the future. Because of him it's possible that millions of lives can be saved."
"Only if we could have perfected the process, but there's no time. I mean, nobody's going to give us the Nobel Prize for murder."
#silent rage#1982#american cinema#michael miller#joseph fraley#edward di lorenzo#chuck norris#ron silver#steven keats#toni kalem#william finley#brian libby#stephen furst#stephanie dunnam#joyce ingle#jay de plano#lillette zoe raley#peter bernstein#mark goldenberg#brainless Norris actioner; I've wanted to see this for a while‚ but only because of the presence of beloved Bill Finley (under used but an#absolute delight as always). this was Chuck's only foray into the vaguely sci fi or horror themed movie world‚ this being a kind of#Frankenstein take off (only with more roundhouse kicks). it was also his only time doing romantic scenes‚ something he was apparently#very uncomfortable with‚ and which he swore off ever doing onscreen again. he's not the strongest actor‚ altho his martial arts are#admittedly impressive; this is at its best when following Libby's man mountain homicidal killer (the opening ten minutes in particular#all restless handheld camera and sweaty mental break‚ are quite excellent). Libby was a stuntman but you'd never know he wasn't a trained#actor‚ he puts a hell of a lot into his performance. Furst's comic relief deputy‚ on the other hand‚ quickly grows tiresome#dumb as rocks and at times plain idiotic (Norris is satisfied he's killed the big bad by throwing him down a small well‚ despite the guy#having just survived much greater falls and a close range explosion without a scratch). fun synth score too but this is far from an#essential watch; for fans of brainless machismo and or Bill Finley being a weird nerd only (I'm the latter more than the former)

So, I was just looking for a Snow White gif set, and I came across quite a few posts expressing displeasure about Rachel Zegler’s flippant attitude to the original Disney film. And while I agree she was being a bit glib, you have to remember, it’s all about playing it up for the camera. Maybe her manager told her to push a love-to-hate-it angle. Who knows. Disney is still trying to work that little bit of feminism that is truly marketable but is ‘safe’ in their standards.
But what irritates me is that those posts immediately delve into the history and animation of the work in the film. As an artist, I totally respect the work and success Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was in 1937. It’s a beautiful piece, to be sure.
And Snow White was kind of modern for the movie’s supposed setting and time period! She has a bob! It’s easily demonstrated and acknowledged by the audience how hard she works, in both the castle and the cottage! She’s a upper class woman who manages to stay chaste despite living with, horror among horrors, seven unmarried men!
But, come on. She was relatively safe, barely pushing the envelope, in 1937. Women were in factories, wearing pants, and were still actively fighting for their rights at the time. All while weathering the Great Depression!
Films like Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman have already done more-feminine-modern takes on the tale. But Zegler isn’t wrong. If the original film’s story, no changes, came out today, it would be disappointing to a lot of feminists. So if you’ve watched the other live action Disney princess films, I’d say don’t knock the Snow White one just yet. It might actually offer something new but nice to more modern feminist audiences.
Just please don’t forget that something can be wonderful in one way and meh in another. The original film was an artistic masterpiece, but wasn’t the be-all end-all of feminism in the 30s. Check out this film, for example.
And hey, this is the webbed site of anxiety. You’ve all probably said things you regret, whether you ‘deserve’ to regret it or not. Don’t forget actors can make mistakes too. They’re human.
#Snow White#trust me I love the already-out there modern live action remake Mirror mirror#but I think you guys are being harsh#Ann Vickers#snow white 2024#what I liked best about the new little mermaid film was that we still got to see Ariel’s thoughts and passions (without it just being pixie#girl quirky) on land before her wedding to Eric#the expansion of her motivations#and a bunch of other little things that made it different from the original#I wouldn’t have seen it multiple times if it was just a carbon copy#my only complaint was that under the sea should’ve been a chorus song#some animals already sang!#but in any case I loved it#the parts I loved about the other live action Disney princess movies were the things they changed too! (mostly)#I enjoyed Belle actively using her book knowledge to invent#I like Cinderella having that one last conversation with tremaine and still managing to walk away fine and strong#maleficent’s new relationship with aurora was excellent#we got to see jasmine’s internal life richer and better than ever#and for all it’s faults I do appreciate that they tried making Mulan a warrior who didn’t have to hide her womanhood#I do think the Little Mermaid did it best though#so all in all#I think the new Snow White has potential

not to doxx myself but ive just seen player kings (with ian mckellen!!) and uhhhh it was so good. brb gonna explode.
#player kings#christ#ok a part was scary because there was a medical emergency and it was relatively close to my row#everything ended up ok as far as i can say but it was. not looking great for a second.#i hope the person is alright#missed part of the ending because of that though - they paused the play only after the person was walked out#i think to keep the corridors clear?#and the pause itself was very professional but before when it continued to go on while the emergency was happening? jesus christ.#so i missed a chunk of the ending and i think tbh everyone around me did as well#but. other than that!! it was good!!#(not the best play ive seen this year. that goes to death of beautiful deer/śmierć pięknych saren ive seen in kraków)#(but thats a play im counting towards the best ive seen like. this decade.)#it was such a massive production and im so happy i got that experience#on my limited student budget even!#it was so well done also from a technical perspective#prince harry (toheeb jimoh) was also phenomenal#and ian mckellen!!#so many good actors actually everyone was on point#ok ok ok#last thing#the was scenes were very action movie-y and im not sure how i feel abt that#it was all very dramatic & cinematic#but ive never seen a play approach war/fight scenes like this one so that was cool#(i also think not many plays have this play's budget? idk i dont usually go for larger productions like this one.#maybe the war scenes like this arent that usual? i wouldnt know. they were unusal for me)#ok ok ok ok ok#thats it this time#im good im calm#thank you if youve read this till the end <3

damn do all the endings of resident evil games suck or is it just the newer ones
#i just finished village#like both it and biohazard have such dumb endings#biohazard is sooo good up until the fucking. exposition boat#and both of these have such obxious final or final adjacent bosses#that feel so out of place#either feeling like an action movie or a zelda boss#which is not good for a survival horror#i think they do the best when it's more close-quarters and puzzle solving#like my favorite sections of this and biohazard are donna and lucas' respectively#but this and biohazard are the only resident evil games i've played#but i've played biohazard many times it's one of my all-time favorite horror games (EXCEPT for that ending)#and overall i did like village quite a bit. the ending i didn't care for and the factory section was a little frustrating#but other than that i mostly had a really good time with it#i got it as a gift pretty soon after it came out but i wasn't able to play it until recently because my old computer couldn't run it#also. a big complaint for me with the ending. is making ethan more than Just Some Guy#because that's something i think is such an essential part of a good horror game for me#making him secretly special or already dead (???) or whatever just kills that for me#this is why outlast is still my favorite horror game of all time. miles is Just Some Guy#anyway i could rant more about this but i don't know if you guys want my Horror Game Hot Takes (tm)#what do you have to say doll?

#for me its video games#its just. such a unique form of storytelling#ur both a character and the audience#whether its a game where your actions completely shape the story or one where ur mostly just watching it unfold. being so involved in it is#so. aaaaaaaaaa#its really cool!! its so fucking good!!!!#i <3 video games#its also the perfect like. fuck whats the word. avenue?? for my favorite type of storytelling which is 'show dont tell'#like. w movies and tv shows u dont need to do a lot of explaining but you do need dialogue and stuff#or w books u can have a book w very little dialogue but they usually need to explain the setting and wgats happening since u cant yk. see i#like obv theres very different types of books and shows but like generally. most of the time. etc#games are the best at the art of putting you somewhere showing you a series od events and not explaining absolutely anything#which i LOVE#see: games like little nightmares and inside#and theyre also like. a combination of all the ways to tell a story. via visuals via audio and via text. games have all 3. this makes no#sense but do u get it???? i cant articulate anything im thinking right#i just wanted an excuse to say i love video games <3

US war movies, and war movies in general, are about Showcasing the Horrors of War and how much these poor soldiers suffered (if youre lucky, you will also see how these poor soldiers made others suffer too). the most important and valuable aspect of all quiet on the western front, what makes it stand out from other war movies, is that it does not have a happy ending. gringo war movies love to put a woman back home so the guy has a wife to come back to, a family to raise and a future to sustain. by focusing on that promise of a better future, we are all the more ready to forget about what happened before (or even worse, to excuse it as the ugly ugly means to get to the good things, a calvary to get to heaven)
postwar movies, as in, movies focused on what happens After the mass suffering and trauma of a society, have a bigger, harder to pinpoint power. these stories actually deal with guilty parties, with responsability and the aftermath of crimes, about the holes in the system that allows surviving victims to go without reparations and genocides and generals to continue to evade punishment. it replaces the adrenaline pumping excitement of a battlefield for the cold professionalism of courts and offices. after every war there is a process of reconditioning and readjustement. and if you cannot make an anti war war movie, then your best bet is a post war anti war movie. the only way you can make sense of the violence is by seeing everything from the distance of the future, and by reorganizing the truth into testimonies that can allow you to learn.
there is little to learn from suffering. there is more to learn from what remains after that suffering has happened.
#. 🦴#im half asleep but i hope this makes sense#when i watched argentina 1985 for the first time i kept comparing it to the post which is one of my favorite spielberg movies#bc argentina 1985 disappointed me in my wish to see something fresh and revolutionary#when in the end. it didnt need to be that#more importantly. it reminded me of how the post itself is. a post war movie#about the exposing of crimes by the state in the betrayal of their people during the vietnam war#and im thinking about that link#war movies defy nothing. they have been watered down to spectacles of brutality and suffering#and just like night and fog might be the best holocaust movie made. i think we might need that distance#we cannot see real brutality in the eye. not because we need to be sheltered#but because the fear and horrors paralyze us#when what we need is action and justice. not resignation and self satisfaction at the fact#that we have left it all in the past#how can we possibly learn by remaining contented?

Wow, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny seems to be one of the most divisive movie in the series, again.
Yeah, when 3 out of 5 movies gets people fighting you wonder why the audience hasn't relaxed yet...
My thoughts? Personally I think 1, 3 and 4 are the best there is (yes, I love the 4th movie). The 2nd one is mostly just weird for the sake of being weird. Now the 5th one I would place somewhere between those two categories- very much above Temple of Doom but not as captivating as Raiders, Last Crusade or Cristal Scull.
#yeah you heard me right#I love kingdom of the Cristal Scull#Dial of Destiny was fine#actually- the story is amazing#especially the theme about time & aging#it also had some great action#that last scene was THE BEST!!!!! <3#but I felt it was lacking something...#but over all glad I watched it in cinemas#Indiana Jones#indiana jones and the dial of destiny#movies#things i like
