something i think about when it comes to your zaun family au is that, in the grand scheme of things, viktor really doesnt have That much of an age gap with his parents does he lol my own mom had my oldest sister at age 17 and when she was in her 30s and my sister barely 18-20 they had an almost peer-like relationship. if isha is born around the time of the break in s1 act 1 then theres only 3 adults in the family and one of them is. like. viktor himself. LOL silco is a little too highstrung to consider viktor a peer at any point but huh. other than vander he really is the only other adult in the family. if hes genuinely listening to anyones opinions (again, other than vander) when it comes to the family its viktor's. probably LMAO

I've mentioned in passing but Viktor's relationship to his younger siblings is in some ways closer to that of being a 3rd parent to them than being their older brother. Specifically in the way his parents parent of like, yeah, he's around if the kids need him or if something serious happens, but he's very busy with his own work so look after yourselves and stay out of his way (Vi, you're in charge).

Viktor's also a very responsible, intelligent, child and then young man. So his opinion and word is given the weight of it being a well-thought out one or true. Viktor's given decision-making responsibility in regards to the younger ones when his parents are both out. His siblings are told things like "don't open to the door to anyone other than Benzo or Sevika" and meanwhile Viktor's getting "there's a package for x person in Silco's office if they show up give it to them but make sure they give you x amount first. Oh and if Enforcers show up burn it in the fireplace." He's told far more about his parents work than his siblings are, including where they are going a lot of the time so if they don't show up again by a certain time he can tell Benzo/Sevika where to go look. He knows the combination to the safe in Silco's office from far younger than the others are given it.

By the time Isha's born he's a full adult who has moved out of home worked his way up to Assistant to the Dean of Piltover and now quit that job to start a new venture with a work partner. Not only is he old enough to have a kid himself he's established enough that the expected response if he was to have one would be congratulations not oh no.

He'll always be his parents' child so while they trust his opinion they (especially Silco) still have a bit of "I have more life experience than you listen to me" with him the way all parents do. And he and Silco probably argue a lot because they're both rather sharp-tongued people who will defend their position (Viktor is the child Silco's parents were talking about when they said they hoped he'd get one just like him). But also when Silco finds out that Viktor has been put in charge of clean-up of the Talis Lab Explosion he immediately stops worrying about evidence being found that would tie it back to the younger kids because Viktor knows what to do he'll take care of it and the extent of the conversation they had about it was probably "Heimerdinger has put me in charge of cleaning up to ensure any magical artifacts are correctly destroyed" "Good".

When the Robins were too young to convincingly pass as drivers, they'd always insist that Bruce drive them to school or anyplace they were running late to, because Bruce's extensive illegal racing experience meant they were guaranteed to make it there on time. Or even early sometimes.

What I love about Spy x Family's recent chapters concerning Martha and Henry—two secondary characters with little direct connection to the plot as we've known it—is that Endo's taking the opportunity to once again hammer home what the story's actual stakes are. The idea of potential conflict between Ostania and Westalis isn't just window dressing for a wacky wholesome badass family gimmick—the previous wars are real events that various characters lived through, and all of them are in some way affected by it and have good reasons to want to avoid another one. This is primarily an action-adventure/slice-of-life manga with a lot of sendups to spy movies and pop culture of the 60s, but I think those things hold much more weight with the thematic underpinning of the horrors of war and the ruin it leaves behind.

The other thing that I think I would want in an Annabeth Wayne AU that I don't think I've seen so far is Bruce being absolutely pissed at Athena.

It was bad enough with Talia and Damian, but Athena is a literal god of wisdom who should know better AND he doesn't even have the "culpability" of having slept with her.

She one hundred percent saw Batman, tactician of the Justice League, was drawn in by her aspect of the Goddess of Strategy, and proceeded to create a child without his consent, a daughter who she didn't even raise before the child became a weapon.

And like whatever else, however fucked up Damian was by his own training to become a child-weapon, at least Talia loved Damian.

Whereas Athena loves Annabeth in the way a Goddess loves, not the way a Person loves, and I don't think Bruce, whose entire identity is so fixated on his relationship with his own parents, would recognize that as love at all.

And, like, Talia put Damian through a lot of shit. I think Bruce would be angry there too. But when push came to shove, she at least at some point brought him to Bruce because she thought it was in her son's best interests.

Athena actively lead Annabeth away from Bruce and into the streets at the age of seven, which Bruce would never see as in her best interest, whatever Athena's godly perspective is, however badly he reacted after Jason's death, even though he couldn't see (and dismissed the idea of) the spiders and the monsters. She was seven. In the streets of Gotham.

Athena let Annabeth fight a major role in two wars back to back without being there to train her or protect her or love her or even advise her. Athena advocated for the cold blooded murder of the other children who had actually tried to keep his daughter safe. Athena sent Annabeth against Arachne when Athena's children have universally died on that quest for a thousand years.

Athena let Bruce think he had gotten Annabeth killed because of his own inability to handle his grief. Let him think his daughter was dead or worse for years. Would have let him keep thinking that if the Fates didn't have other plans.

And just, in true fashion for all of my ideas on a PJO x DC crossover, everyone really comes out more traumatized than before. This includes Bruce.

Because now he wasn't just used unknowingly for a child just once, but twice. And in both cases he's going to have to live forever with the guilt of not having been able to protect his kids from what their other parent wanted to make of them

(On top of all the ways he has directly failed them and made any complexes worse, of course )

I just think Tallulah gets to be upset about this. “It’s not Wilbur’s fault” “He’s not a bad dad” “He loves his daughter so much” yes! These are all true! And it’s not his fault! But he’s still not there. And Tallulah has gone through so much and still hasn’t seen him, the one time he was around was the one time she wasn’t, and all she has are letters and “I’m thinking of you always” and things that used to be theirs together, but he’s still not there. She’s waited and she’s been patient and she’s loved him all the same, and he’s still not there. Like yesterday, and the day before, and the day before, from the happy milestones to the traumatic events, he’s still not there.

She knows that it’s not his fault, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s absent. That in and of itself just adds to the sorrow, because she knows why he’s gone, and she’s been told time and time again it doesn’t mean he doesn’t care, she knows this - it doesn’t mean it doesn’t sting, that it doesn’t hurt, that she doesn’t yearn for her father to be there more than anything in the world, and he’s just not there.

So yes, she gets to be upset, and be caustic, and stomp her feet and write bitter messages, and be angry and vitriolic, because she’s a little girl missing her father, who feels things with her whole heart and soul - and that means she gets to feel the ugly parts of it, too.

man its a shame postcrisis didn't commit to the world they were building up and implying in batman 408-410 because then we would have been running around with fun things like:

everyone in Gotham being convinced that Joker killed Robin 1, and being furious to the point they organize a committee to figure out how to call CPS on Batman (and, naturally, want Bruce Wayne to head it)

Dick not stopping being Robin because he went to college or because he had a fight with Bruce but a secret third thing: they had a pretty calm conversation and decided that "Robin" was too risky to continue going out as and would draw more fire if he came back from the dead, so time to start drafting up a new name and costume

Jason refusing to go with Batman anywhere, probably because of the whole "everyone in the city thinks batman got robin killed" thing, but being too smart to like, say that out loud (personally i think he should say it out loud. for the lolz and foreshadowing)

Dick presumably still recovering from the joker fight when Jason does come with Batman after ever other option just turned out to be crime, and hearing that 'the kid who stole b's tires the other day wants to join crime fighting'

What i can only assume is a fight not about Jason being taken in and trained, but because they should do it literally under any other name and costume- not because robin is, you know, incredibly precious to dick but because 'dude we just agreed it was safer to not be robin'

Batman convincing Gotham that this second sidekick isn't child endangerment because actually he only looks like a kid and is really older than Batman. yeah thats the lie they go with. it is, apparently, bought because no one brings up the committee to call cps on batman again.

I keep turning this concept in my head but I can't manage to write it satisfactorily so here I am, setting it out in the wild:

Tim Drake being alerted that Batman INC is something that is in the planning stages of it happening (maybe by Lucius, maybe by Tam, who even knows, look he was CEO for a while and someone is worried about Bruce Wayne about to go public with Batman INC and they get in touch with him) and going to Bruce and refusing to let him do this.

Because Bruce is needed in Gotham and Batman is needed in Gotham, and while Dick is doing a great job and no one will convince Tim of the contrary, that's not Dick's job. It's Bruce's.

(Who also has a son who just got his father back and if anyone knows what it would mean for a son who lost their father to get that father back when you know it's not going to happen... well lets say Tim has Opinions about this [and while he might not get along with Damian all that well yet, they are in that neutral state where Damian is like a cat observing things and studying dynamics and Tim has always been able to work with people he doesn't like or even trust much, so he's not going to punish the kid over whatever's went down between them.])

And besides, let's be real here Bruce, if you want a Batman that can go around the world and pull together teams and make them cohesive and knows what it's needed to be a successful team of young / upcoming young heroes, that's way more Dick than you yourself. Would be preferrable if he was allowed to do it as Nightwing, but the point still stands.

Just ... Tim pow-wowing with Bruce over the whole sitch and convicing him to back down. Not abandon the project, Tim knows that will not happen no matter what Tim does, but trusting it to Dick, who is way better with both younger people and people skills in general than Bruce.

(Which actually is not meant to separate Damian from Dick, Dick can come in from one assignment to the next and check on Damian and this is not the time it was when Tim was growing up, they have communications all over the globe now, Dick can phonecall and videocall Damian as many times as he wants and check on him as often as he wishes, but if Batman INC is happening, and it will happen because Bruce has decided it will, then Tim can only do damage control over this)

And possibly Bruce leveraging Tim staying in Gotham (which, joke's on Bruce, Tim was going to do that anyway, but sure he'll "concede") and possibly "asking" (ordering, let's be real here) Tim to help train Damian (which Tim isn't enthusiastic about but fine, he'll make it work as long as Bruce has his back), for multiple reasons.

A bit because Bruce sort of feels guilty that Tim was kicked out of the Robin role (Bruce HAD promised it would be Tim's until Tim decided otherwise, [which I don't think Dick knew about and even if he had, the situation still had been what it was, to be fair to Dick]) but also Bruce doesn't quite know what to do with Damian (and it wouldn't be the first time he's trusted Tim to teach young heroes / guide someone in a vigilante role) and also he both wants Tim to be there with him (he's missed him) and needs him there with himself (Tim the emotional regulation parentified wonder!).

And then shenanigans from there.
