These cafe window boxes were a great combination of colours and sizes with large purple and white Petunia cultivars and a range of small, soft coloured Lobelia cultivars. The purple flowers of the Petunia will smell great, especially in the evening, as they are the most heavily fragrant of the colours.

Beautiful Red Flowers on a new plant at my terrace garden. More Information: Salvia splendens, the scarlet sage, is a tender herbaceous perennial plant native to Brazil, growing at 2,000 to 3,000 m (6,600 to 9,800 ft) elevation where it is warm year-round and with high humidity. The wild form, rarely seen in cultivation, reaches 1.3 m (4.3 ft) tall. Smaller cultivars are very popular as bedding plants, seen in shopping malls and public gardens all over the world. It is widely grown as an ornamental plant, with a large number of cultivars selected by different colours from white to dark purple. It is a subtropical species that does not survive freezing temperatures, but can grow in cold climates as an annual plant. The most common selections are the dwarf sizes that go by names such as 'Sizzler' and 'Salsa', and planted en masse in gardens and malls. 'Van Houttei' reaches 1 to 1.3 m (3.3 to 4.3 ft) in height. Now starting to tire, but still holding on to a reasonable amount of flower; today’s #oneadayplant Tagetes patula (French Marigold) variety is ‘Red Cherry’ at a guess. . I have a love/hate relationship with bedding marigold species and varieties. I really can’t abide the large flowered forms (Often African Marigold varieties). I’m not a big fan of most French Marigolds either. I do really like the some of the simple, single flowered Tagetes tenuifolia varieties though. I think it is me struggling with orange and yellow flowers in general. A lot is very quickly way too much for me. . I know a lot of people love them and I can see why. They flower really well in bright, vibrant colours over a long period. I can just about tolerate the plant pictured, but I really don’t love it. . Like so many bedding plants, recent breeding has been to make every form very compact. I hate this. Who wants a plant that only gets to 20cm (7”) high and wide? Surely double that is easily accommodated in most situations. I find it depressing. . Search out older strains (they can be seed raised). Get something a bit beefier than most modern plants. Recently, I went to Home Depot, a local big box store, to just buy some garden soil and had the best intentions not to buy any new plants. That might seems odd for a gardener, but my pot ghetto is already overflowing and I really should get those plants into the ground first. But when I spotted these pure white ranunculus for $ 5.98 each, three had to come home with me.
