Rhubarb, radish, onion and daisy kind of day Living my level 1 allotment life, which feels continuously a little taxing, but always more rewarding (see rewards, up above)
I don't care for plain raw radish, but love it when it's pickled (just a hint to all you fellow haters out there)
Lots of bumblebees out and about today, very good (always pay attention to the pollinators)

Surprise! Spinach!
It amuses me how you can put so much effort into getting one plant to grow. And failing while doing so. And yet… You can do absolutely nothing at all and get quite happy volunteers growing all over the place. This is how we ended up with a whole section of perpetual spinach. Weeds love the rain and smothered under them was this large leafy plant. There was a hearty crop growing and after…

Finally finished this! I picked these tomatoes, apples, pears, and corn from my old allotment last year, and I've always liked how they looked together, so I wanted to try using the video as a reference. I've been slowly chipping away at it for the last week or so.

Since I was sick after my vacation, I decided to finish up the "Oasis" house I was making for my IRL partner.
I should probably mention he plays a Lalafell Paladin who is sworn to protect the Sultana. So there's portraits of her in places of importance where his character would spend the most time. In actuality he just crafts in his house but I tried to keep it "lore accurate" to his character anyway.
I believe he's keeping it locked for now, but I still wanted to show off all my hard work! I built it on my alt to get the sizing correct, although the tall ceilings are "friendly" to tall races, they won't fit through doors, under the patio archway, in the bath, and they can't sit or doze in the bed.
Bonus of my alt testing it out, you can see the full extent of the "bath" here, which I'm proud of squeezing in.
Viedyn for comparison.
#ffxiv screenshoht#ffxiv housing#eorzea photos#ff14 housing#medium house#lalafell house#oasis house#the entire thing was designed around the item “Throne of the Foremost”#because I realized it's the perfect oasis decor#All the beautiful decorative turquoise arch designs in the walls#yep that's the Throne of the Foremost#don't sleep on that item#Also the three planters on the bottom floor of the bedroom are functional#that was one of the stipulations#because our FC gardens constantly#so I had to make use of the 3 allotted planter slots and arrange them in a way that's convenient to use#which sounded great on paper but was really hard to actually do#The slatted doorway isn't functional#The hallway door with the red curtain is actually functional#it opens to a teeny tiny treasure room#with an fc chest#He likes to hang out and craft in there because I set up an “oasis” themed soundtrack that actually kinda slaps#so it's good vibes to sit and listen in the cool atmosphere#I tried so hard with the alt text here

ok day! went to the allotment, pics under the cut. planted my blackcurrants and did some weeding in the other raised bed. haven't planted my broad beans yet bc i only have a few of them and idk where to put them - seems like a waste of a massive raised bed to put them in it, even tho obviously it doesnt have to JUST be beans having some confusing thoughts about the last yr of my relationship. probably wont put them here bc idk if he's still reading this blog. i know he's blocked me + i changed my url but htat rly doesnt mean anything lol he could read it if he wants. i have been considering some ideas that would have made me laugh to even engage with a yr ago but now they are not funny at all. thankful as always for my friends + ana in particular :)

gardening makes you so annoyingly aware of the passing of time. i'm sketching what i want to plant this year, where and when + planning when to add fertiliser and when to harvest what 9 months in advance and that's not even micromanaging. it's really that if you don't do this you will plant things too late or too early and no plant will flourish, and you'll exhaust the soil by planting the same crop in the same spot twice because you just did whatever and forgot the tomatoes were there last year already.
#having an allotment garden is all about being forced to consider the passing of time#and also various seed prices

And so we begin to eat what we grow 🍓🥬
What a month June was! It started off with us being inundated with strawberries. We have made some jam, froze some, made loads of smoothies – and of course ate them fresh 😋 And we finally grew some greens! The cold wet spring meant that the slugs went after most of what we sowed. I didn’t have any lettuce survive but we had 3 spinach plants and a good amount of mustard make it. At the end of…

Final horticultural post showing soon to harvest goodness, our allotment:

I think allotments might be an almost uniquely British thing where residents can apply for parcels of land for non-commercial agriculture. We’ve had this for about 5 years and share the work and produce with some friends.
It’s hard work, but there is nothing quite like the taste of sweetcorn that was on the plant twenty minutes before it went in one’s mouth.
