People try too hard to make Curly an active participant in Jimmy's abuse. Isn't the whole point that he's passive in everything Jimmy does? Abuse occurs because he actively doesn't do anything? Not to call someone out or be mean, but I saw a post saying Anya's ID being in Curly's locker at the beginning shows that he intended to prevent Anya from filing an HR report and I disagree. I get where that interpretation is coming from, but I think it's a little uncharitable. I don't like being too kind to Curly because he's like...a morally mid dude at best lol But if we're going by the HR report interpretation, I would say it's more likely he requested Anya's ID in order to file an HR report on her behalf. After all, the only way to contact Pony (that we see) is in the cockpit, he's the Captain, and Pony Express sucks bad so I wouldn't put it past them to only allow the Captain to use the communication device thing. As we see before, Curly is the only one able to use tools around the ship that you would think other employees could use (ex. Swansea should be able to use the axe if he's the repair guy. Idk why they'd need an ax but that falls under manual labor which Swansea is designated for as the mechanic/fixer dude. But it has to go through Curly). I never got the vibe that Curly moved to actively protect Jimmy. He just lets things happen without say a word; Jimmy walks all over him, and by extension, the whole crew. I get why people would think that because he gives the whole "Hey Jimmy, we can get through this together, bud" spiel right before the crash. This part interests me a lot because there's so many ways to interpret Curly's intentions there. My interpretation is that Curly is on autopilot mode. The responses seem so stilted in comparison to Jimmy's. Like it's the kind of thing Curly's said before again and again and again when Jimmy's gotten in trouble. However, as others previously pointed out, I don't think Curly ever dealt with Jimmy doing something this irredeemable. He doesn't know how to respond, so he just goes for the default "You've gotten through tough situations before. Work through it one step at a time." Like the response is lame af lol I think he was in shock; he was scared (and just so I can say it one more time: he's super lame).

Anyway, this is way longer than I intended and I've said things a billion people have already stated. But uhhh tldr the whole point of Curly's character is he's passive; he never acts. He just watches. Making him an active participant in the abuse by taking actions to cover for Jimmy (like preventing Anya from filing an HR report) defeats the purpose of his character. He's a bystander.

#and I'm defining active as in like consciously taking actions to help Jimmy cover his tracks and stuff like that #because I know being passive can be seen as the same thing as actively participating in the abuse (which i agree with)#I just mean I don't think he's actually intending to help Jimmy by doing anything for him like taking Anya's ID away with nefarious purpose #I just didn't get that vibe #again I just thought he sucked lol like he just does nothing #so idk I just don't vibe when people make him too into helping Jimmy if that makes sense? it doesn't matter if they're "just using it for concept art" or whatever. they're still using it and its fucking gross. As a Yo-Kai Watch fan of almost 10 years now, I am truly disgusted. I hope they recall this decision and go back to using exclusively real artists, or they'll lose a lot of fans (including myself, which would break my heart. I love Level-5 games to death.)

I'm still most likely going to buy Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road and Decapolice when they come out, because most likely if the use of AI in scriptwriting/sidequests is real those will be rewritten in the English localization by actual people. Still doesn't change the concept art thing but i've been hyped for these games for too long to let that ruin it. If it goes any further than that tho, i'm probably going to tap out. Which sucks so much.

This is lazy at best and downright harmful to real artists at worst.

#We've had our yearly secret santa gifts exchange at my dorm and I've been gifted the first volume of Beast 😭😭😭😭😭#I'm crying forever. This december marks three years since I've watched the first b/sd episode #and yet this is the first time I actually own a b/sd manga volume. Like I own it and I can read it whenever I want!!! How cool is that!!!!!#Like there's so many Akutagawa images in it!!!! It's insane!!!!!!!! AND IT'S BEAST AT THAT #I'm deeply moved because I never spoke about it to virtually anyone here (at my dorm)?#Like I suppose a bunch of people vaguely know I like anime but only a couple of close friends know I like. Like-like reading manga lol.#And the person who gifted it DEFINITELY didn't know I like anime in general much less b/sd specifically much less Beast in particular!!!!!#I'm 100% sure (they just arrived this year and we hadn't even had that much occasions to talk to each other).#Which means they went through the trouble of gathering intel from my close friends about what I like and actually follow through‚#seek for the specific manga in a comic store etc... It's such a nice gesture I'm so heartwarmed.#And of course I'm glad for every gift I've received in the last years (genuinely)‚ but the fact that this was the most *specific* to what–#I like. It makes it so special! They were so kind.#There must be one (1) person in this whole 60 people dorm who knows I like Beast–#(that would be the girl who introduced b/sd to me in the first place) and the fact that they asked them for it...#I feel both very grateful and lucky lol #When I unwrapped it!!! Like I thought it was just a random book which would have been nice but like!!!!!#When I actually saw through the thin paper the cover!!!! The scream I screamed in my head #Anyways!!!! I own a b/sd manga now!!!!! I've only got time to go through the first chapter so far but it's suchhhh an experience.#It's like reading it for the first time again 😭😭😭 Half because the translation is so much different than the English one lol.#And I basically know the English version by heart. Half because I never saw this kind of high quality!!!!! It's!!!!! Insane!!!!! Like!!!!!!#I'm crying 😭😭😭 The drawings are so sharp and crisp (in the good way). The lines are so clean there's no disturbance at all #I literally never saw anything so good in my life I'm crying a little. I'm so so glad they blessed me with Beast specifically #The takebon edition is pretty cheap (it's just planet manga so there's no color illustrations or dust cover or anything unfortunatelly.#But to make up for it the volumes are significantly cheaper then let's say J-Pop)#There's also some unique typesetting choices? The text from the book-like boxes is in lowercase which is interesting!#Initially I thought I wouldn't have liked the translation (opening it randomly there was Akutagawa saying “crepa!” (“die!”) to Dazai in ch1 #Which was kinda jarring since it's very low register and everyone knows Akutagawa has very complex speech patterns.)#But actually reading it I'm really enjoying the translation so far!!!!#There's so many choices that made me grasp details I actually missed all the times I've read the English translation.#That is to say! Very excited to read it!!!! Will probably make a review / translation commentary if I can find the time!!!!!

"yeah in my entirely different field it's exactly the same" no the fuck it is not. literally any anecdote i tell about my (limited!) teaching experience gets me a starbucks drive thru meme response. it is NOT the same. you do not fucking get it.

#even my grandma who I love and respect was like well the problem is that they aren't making reading fun #you have to read a boring book and write a report on it. it sucks #and i was like okay but that's not it anymore. students get choices in books and choices in assignments.#and yet no matter what you do the teacher is still likely to fail at teaching a kid to love reading because reading is less fun than tiktok #and no one else in their life is saying hey man you need to 1) know how to read and 2) learn how to do things even when you don't like them #i had so many kids say well xyz isn't interesting to me. and I'd say okay let's find you something you're interested in #but they couldn't come up with anything either. if they did it didn't stick #I don't mean this as a kids these days. i mean this as a society these days is not encouraging appropriate behavior #it's encouraging the worst in people #and it's not a teacher's job to fix that #(not that you can fix people but ykwim)#i don't want to be an alarmist but i do think things are getting worse and people are behaving worse #and will continue to do so until it becomes cool/rewarding to be a decent fucking person #ugh. sorry. sorry.#big rant. but i saw someone say dog grooming runs people down just as badly as teaching does #I don't doubt that dog grooming is a difficult job sometimes but like. it's not the same as working 60-80 hour weeks with a masters to be #treated like shit. idiot shit in fact. by anyone and everyone because you cannot do ANYTHING.#you can't do anything about it. you are the punching bag of kids and parents and admin and the school board and every asshat online #and you could be perfect and yet years later there will be some asshat online saying you ruined their life #and everyone will say oh yeah I had a teacher that ruined my life too school is so fucked up they didn't teach me anything #ok. sure.#and you just have to sit there and take that #UGH #i was trying to wrap up the rant and it got worse #anyway. please. #so i've been dealing with some irl stuff recently #nothing too bad. it was just really frustrating and exhausting for me. and really putting a damper on my mood and my art #and i'm sorry if i've been acting a little weird or not saying too much or anything #or if i've been kinda inactive for the past few days #but i'll be okay!#i just wanted to let you guys know what's been kinda going on #i'm slowly working on something really sweet involving Hugo and Noa. so that's been making me feel better #i need something happy and soft between them lol #also! I've been playing The Quarry recently!#the writing is kinda stupid and almost all of the characters act like they don't have a brain. but that's what makes it so fun!#and i'm pretty sure the devs did that intentionally. to make it seem more like a campy monster flick #i'm really enjoying it so far! the werewolves are really cool!#also it's really funny to me how they just pop like balloons whenever they're transforming #i thought it was gonna be a slow transformation. but no. their skin just immediately explodes off #and then they somehow get it all back when they turn back into humans? idk how that works but it's pretty rad #also also! the thing with the tarot cards is really cool!#i missed a lot in the beginning because i didn't know what i was looking for #and the fortune teller lady in between chapters kept getting mad at me for not finding any #but i eventually started to get it! when the game decided to really put one in my face in chapter 3 lol #and the thing with the tarot cards representing the different characters in the game got me thinking about what card Noa would probably be #i think Seven of Swords would be right up her alley #because it's associated with deception. dishonesty. betrayal. and acting strategically #and it could also signify self-deception and confessions. which is all very true for her character #aaahh now i wanna make a tarot card design for her!#but that's an idea for another day #anyway sorry for sorta rambling a bit #i hope you all are doing okay

#Alright I got tragically interrupted while watching it but I'm finally finished watching the episode!!#It's really really good both the animation and drawings are very detailed compared to the rest of the anime but...#The pace is so off :((( Like it's not the end of the world but ugh. It's unfortunate...#So many things just don't hit off as deeply because everything is moving so fast all the time and there's no time to process anything.#They won't allow you one second for the last line of a scene to sink in that the next scene's ost is already playing.#And like it's not even the worst crime an anime can commit I guess but still...#I wish they didn't. Like rather than make a 13 episodes season and squeeze the Sky Casino arc in merely two episodes it would have been–#a lot better to finish the season at the previous episode and make 12 episodes out of everything (so that everything could be better paced)#Like yeah maybe it's not the best season ending that there can be but... It's not terrible either‚ you have Atsushi saying the line–#“there's still hope” and the season ending there‚ that's pretty cool #I don't know why everyone feels like they have to rush all the time.#Guys do I have to be the one to remind you you make more money if more season come out.#Like how can the knowledge of Sigma being made by the book have any kind of impact when we've only known him for ten minutes.#Teruko's looking mad AND looking cutesy AND blowing up the landing zone didn't have the same comedic effect they did in the manga because..#It just happened all together! #metagross #bonus angle under the cut because i didn't even know this thing had a mouth #TPC knew when they named this thing… they even put “meta” in its name…#i always used to pronounce this “meta–grahhss.” but i've also been told multiple times that it's “meta-grohhss.” don't like that #like the word “gross.” they're not gross..! they're strong competitively or whatever..! yeah this is never a pokémon i cared about #some folks only care about pokémon for their competitive viability but that just is not a factor for me when determining pokémon i like #i do like how the X on their face goes over their eyes to make them look angry from practically every angle. i think that's a nice touch #and steel/psychic is rather cool. but i still don't know what this thing is supposed to be. though again i guess there's something to be #said for a pokémon that isn't necessarily Based off anything and is just its own creature. i think there's gotta be at least a few of those #out there‚ innit? i thought the trapinch line was but. lo and behold i guess. maybe they're all based off something and i'm just wrong

SUPREMELY frustrating that we found something actually really cool and intriguing and plot relevant in tonight's session but I'm still so constantly preoccupied with whether the DM is going to 100% kill us with sheer poor game design that I barely have enough brainspace left over to even enjoy it

#the first half of the session was a random-off-a-rolltable encounter that had nothing to do with anything and gave us literally nothing #and used up all our resources and took a REALLY long time because it was-- you guessed it! another deadly encounter for some reason!!#that's 100% of the encounters we've had so far!#and EXPLICITLY not related to what we were trying to investigate AND creatures that drop neither loot NOR BODIES #(two wil o the wisps and a water wierd)#we did a lot better in this encounter but it WAS deadly going off CR #and the point is now we've done just a short rest and THEN found the Plot Thing-- which our bard used up a bunch of resources to access #SO NOW IT'S LIKE. OKAY LOOK. MY BROTHER IN CHRIST HOW DID YOU EXPECT US TO DO IT FAST #hhhhhHHHH!!!!#I SHOULD BE THINKING AND TALKING ABOUT HOW COOL THE SECOND HALF OF THE SESSION GENUINELY WAS BUT I'M TOO STRESSED TO HAVE FUN #cannot stress enough that I'm in a million campaigns and I never have this problem with other DMs or with Highly Dangerous DnD Situations #melliwyk's party are in mortal peril constantly and it's... reaching a point where it's tiresome for how badly it's wearing on the PCs #but it rarely feels unfun stressful as a player playing a game #I never feel like the DM is about to accidentally end the whole campaign by bumblefucking us into a TPK at random #you know? it's different. this just feels unmanageable

Oklahoma! (1955) is a WILD watch. some lovely ballet though

#i saw a high school production of it when i was a kid and i mostly only remember the peddler who i thought was hilarious #and then i played in a pit orchestra for it in high school so i didn't *really* know what was going on #heard half the lines but couldn't see anything #so this is definitely A Time!#apparently this lady thinks this guy is scary because he looks at porn. and then she steals his carriage & horses leaving him stranded #^^ unfair summary sorry he did also confess his love and hug her #she couldn't possibly have turned him down and asked to be dropped off! she's a scared helpless woman you see #oh she also almost killed them both in the process! wow can't believe he made her do that by scaring her by hugging her #after she agreed to go to a dance with him and he perhaps had reason to think she was interested #she literally didn't once try out the word 'no'. she went straight for risking everyone's death #why did she say yes to going to the dance? so glad you asked. to make her crush jealous #also said crush went to the guy's cabin to tell him it'd be cool if he killed himself. it sounds like i'm exaggerating doesn't it #incredibly the woman and her crush are the protagonists #we're not even going to comment on Ado Annie. i don't have time for a dissertation #(

been thinking about them recently

#Rebecca hunt #Rebecca prince #Emma sutton #hollywood u #been thinking about emma's character more #i dont want her to be a cartoon villain #but i do want her to be more bad traits than good #i think she wanted a pet more than a friend #and poor little rebecca who never had a friend and would do anything for a little positive attention was perfect #i think she considers micheal the same to a lesser extent #and by the time she graduated she just didn't care about them anymore because they served their purpose #she doesn't need her “pets” anymore cause now she's an adult with her own money and her own house and her new cool friends #and she taught rebecca a bunch of tricks to get away from her parents #so she sees the “transaction” as being complete #i also think she pressured rebecca into a lot of things #just in a different way #rebecca was more inclined to do things for emma cause thats her friend! shes the coolest! she must know whats best for rebecca #and michael is a naive yes man so he didn't say anything #really want to write emma calling up rebecca after she becomes famous and being like “heyyyy bestie”
