Everybody!
Just sit down and listen because my The Sun And The Star book just arrived yesterday and I just finished it so you guys are gonna hear me freaking out about this
So,
Nico and Will 😏
Oh, well, my dad bought TSATS in july (because portuguese version was just ready this month while for you guys it was up on may) and it arrived at thursday. And then! when I came home from school I just found it here at the table, my dad gladly smilling for me like "yo here's the book you were freaking out about last month" and I just freaked out some more.
I startes to read it and oh dam
I need to say I loved the concept
And the implications
"You cannot cut your past off, but it's a part of you"
And also "There's no light without darkness, just as there's no darkness without light"
I loved it because was also a golden key to nico's character arc
He dealt with really bad stuff in this book
And ofc character's bad stuff is good stuff for us
But really,
All his demons were shown for everybody to see in this book (like, literally, and i loved this part), and Will was at his side all time.
I loved this too: Nico and Will's relationship has no problems at all, but their understanding of each other was so limited. Will saw Nico's darkness as a bad thing, a thing he had to heal from. And Nico tried to flinch away everytime someone tried to help him, we already knew that.
And then their values were crushed off
Will learns about darkness; about the dephts of the Bad Things; about Nico; about how not everything related to the dark is bad
And Nico learns about himself; about his needs; about his motives; about his strenghts; about his heart and about his health
And really
I think it was a particulary Hot TakeTM that the Percy Jacksom fandom just shouted and pleaded "NICO DI ANGELO!" and rick riorsan gave us fucking nico di angelo
And also
(the quote may be not accurte here because again, my version is portuguese's, and im having to translate it here)
"Will let the anger power him and searched inside himself for darkness. He knew loneliness, like the nights he spent in the corner of a show house while his mother sing for the crowd. He had felt fear. He had felt envy. He was son of Apollo and, because of that, with all his feelings flowing, Will focused on his dad's power and did something he has never did in his entire life.
He gave his enemy an allergic rhinitis attack"

I’ve only had hallucinations/delusions like this once due to an OD/attempt. I was convinced that I heard my roommates at the time yelling and trying to find me when I was in the hospital. I was convinced they were following me and had found me. It was the most terrified I had ever been.
When my delusions escalated to the point that I thought my …notes had been given to the psych nurses, I was scaring the tech who was with me I was so adamant. Eventually a nurse came and sat with me and listened.
She explained how my thoughts were illogical, calmly explained that what I was experiencing was due to my brain trying to make sense of the excess stuff in my system and I wasn’t crazy. And even if I was, I was in a safe place. That my roommates didn’t have to know anything I didn’t want them to, that I had rights as a patient.
That nurse then convinced me to take an anxiety med, as I hadn’t slept in 40 hours at that point, and I was able to sleep off the worst of it.
Thanks to that nurse. It wasn’t perfect, but it kept me safer than I was in my delusion.
No doctor will ever get my respect like the woman in the ER who checked me for claws and fangs because I told her I was turning into a werewolf and could feel it and let me know gently that she couldn't find any but that didnt make it feel any less real, like THATS how you do it, other doctors who just flat out told me I was wrong take notes

wait do people read first person stories and think they're the ones in the story???
Saw people talking about not liking first person, which is fair, but their reasoning was like "I would not do that" and I don't understand that mindset.
First person stories are still about a character. A character making their own decisions. First person isn't about you???? At least I thought it wasn't. What am I missing? I've always seen first person as just a more in-depth look into a character's mind and stricter POV. Not as a reader stand-in.

please i love you i'm begging you bring back suspension of disbelief bring back trusting the audience like. i cannot handle any more dialogue that sounds like a legal document. "hello, i am here to talk to you about the incident from a few minutes ago, because i feel you might be unwell, and i am invested in your personal wellbeing." "thank you, i am unwell because the incident was hurtful to me due to my childhood, which was bad." I CANT!!!!
do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

not caring too much about a fandom’s favourite guy is the worst. you’ll think “oh i’ll look into the tag see if anything new and cool’s there” and it’s just that fucking guy again

can we talk about how sweet crowley was this whole season. he told gabriel to jump from the window, regretted it, and made him cocoa. he saved a woman from suicide. he saved a bunch of goats and 3 kids by turning them into birds or lizards. he bumped muriel on the shoulder like a dad would when they told him they were 37th not 38th. he wanted aziraphale to be safe. he told that one guy not to feed the ducks bread because he wanted the ducks to be safe. he sheltered aziraphale, who he’d only known for a few minutes, under his wing. he helped aziraphale with his magic trick and supported him the whole season—his only condition being that aziraphale was safe.
crowley is a good person. even if he hates that, it’s true. and more than anything he wants aziraphale to be safe because he knows what it’s like to lose him. and he wants to protect aziraphale from heaven, because he knows how terrible they can be.

The second you start talking about some mysterious "they" that are controlling society in some fashion, you are engaging in dangerous conspiratorial thinking even if you're being woke about it. "They" did not institute the 40 hour work week specifically so you would be too tired to revolt. "They" did not invent the sleek minimalist aesthetic in order to crush the spirit of art in the common people. "They" are not pushing mediocre media into the mainstream in order to poison people's critical thinking skills.
Your best case scenario after that is you talk to someone who actually knows what the fuck they're talking about and you get embarrassed because you can't answer basic questions about your own ideology because you never learned anything past "the ruling class/capitalists/politicians are making things bad and if we got rid of them the bad things would all go away!"
Your worst case scenario is obviously the woo-to-fascist pipeline and you end up believing Jews are poisoning American food supplies with GMOs in order to turn us all into beta cucks, so like . . . maybe just stop blaming "them" before you fall down that route.
Obligatory round of disclaimers: Yes, sometimes people do bad things. Be specific about exactly who is doing what instead of ascribing it to some vague group of shadowy elites. Yes, sometimes things in society are bad. Learn to identify the root causes of complex social issues instead of assuming that they're actually extremely simple to fix and we're just not doing it because of some vague group of shadowy elites. Yes, minimalism isn't for everyone. Learn that some people don't share your tastes and get the fuck over it for the love of god.

People on here are always like "fuck capitalism, why can't things be weird anymore" and then write up a whole dissertation about how the biggest IPs need to change to be weirder.
Like, you are so close. You are so close to getting the point. "Big" IPs *can only exist because they are normal*. They will *never* be weird. They will *never* do what you want. Go find some smaller IPs. Bring back discovery. Bring back never having heard of a book before you buy it. Bring back watching obscure anime online that none of your friends know about. Bring back trying new things, even if they're bad or cheaply made. That is how you get *weird*.
