whoever made the decision to cast jacob anderson as louis dpdl struck fucking gold and i mean that. not only is he a phenomenal actor but every time i look at his beautiful face i too realize that i would do utterly deranged, fucking unhinged shit to keep him in my life forever. at the end of the day lestat and armand and everyone else need not explain a damn thing.

‘Oh, Matthew.’ My worst fears were realized. There were dozens, if not hundreds, of marks.  ‘It’s nothing, mon coeur. Just my vampire body, holding on to trauma.’ ‘There are so many of them. I just want to hunt down all the people who gave them to you.’

Like Ashmole 782, Matthew’s body was a palimpsest, its bright surface obscuring the tale of him hinted at by all those scars. I shivered at the thought of the battles Matthew had already fought, in wars declared and undeclared. ‘You’ve fought enough.’ My voice shook with anger and remorse. ‘No more.’

A stunning passage beautifully honoured by the TV show. The way it was filmed was so poignant. I have gone for a black and white edit (with quite a bit of work) because I think it brings out how delicate and intimate the lighting of the scene is. Matthew looks like a beautiful medieval statue.

I literally cannot stop thinking about how insane it is that assad zaman didn’t know he was auditioning for Armand like u are a relatively unknown actor and u go try out to be the vampires butler in a foundational piece of vampire IP, only to be actually cast as the oldest, most powerful vampire in the entire work and u inhabit that character so well that everyone watching cannot imagine this role going to anyone else, who else could capture that half blank half apocalyptic look?? i think i've mentioned it before in passing but it still fucks me up how Orlok is a physical manifestation of every "wrong and sinful" desire that Ellen tries to repress, as well as the panic that is associated with them.

the first sexual urges of her puberty (he claims her "ever-eternally"). the desire to dominate her husband (he dominates Thomas at the castle, demanding the subservience she never could). her queerness (he drinks from Anna, long and deep, and destroys Harding's family). the desperate longing for companionship, regardless of how dark and abnormal she believes herself to be (he answers her call from miles away, crosses an ocean for her, wants her, wants her, wants her - but she cannot imagine being wanted without repercussions, and so he brings the plague with him, a punishment for the sin of receiving what she craves).

Ellen is a mess of crushing guilt. she only ever sees ugliness in herself and i think it's so compelling to see her being desired above all else - not despite, but because of that ugliness, y'know?..
