Your fem!Stan is so precious to me 🥺 sometimes I wonder what it would be like if she did have a sorta happy ending, like her getting impregnated by her brother while he’s attending college classes in the 70s.

I actually really like how you say it would be a sort of happy ending, anon, bc omg you’re so right. These two are not making it to high school graduation with no problems and then sailing off into the sunset with hearts fluttering around their heads. For how much they love each other, there’s so much baggage. Ford’s desperate need to be unique and special but it’s really hard to do that when you share a face with someone and that someone is always right there in your space and you can’t escape. And Stan, god the way that Stan loves and orbits around ford to such a degree that he’s completely blind to the fact that Ford wants independence and has moved on from those old childhood dreams. They make me sick ❤️

But when it comes to fem Stan, ooof. I typically like to keep things really close to canon when I do genderswap aus, but for this, for Ford to be willing to have Stan at college with him, I think the science fair would have to happen at least slightly differently. Option 1: Stan still busts the machine, but she manages to tell Ford about it before the judges arrive. Now, hang on, you might be thinking, does this mean communication between the Stans? Absolutely not. Not in any meaningful way. Sure, she tells him, but she doesn’t tell him why. She doesn’t tell him that she’s been blindsided by this entire college thing, that she really still believed that he wanted to go adventuring on the seas with her, that she’s scared to death of Ford waking up and realizing that she doesn’t deserve him and that he’ll leave her. And so ford sees it as a tantrum, as Stanley acting out childishly and selfishly adn holding him back (just like everyone always says she does). He fixes it. He impresses the judges. He gets his spot. But the trust is broken, and Stanley needs to make it up to him. He holds it over her head and never lets her forget it.

Option 2: I like this one more. It all goes down like it does in canon. The machine breaks. Stan stays silent. Ford misses his chance. Filbrick kicks Stan out. But wait. That’s not what Ford wants. Sure, he’s furious. He can’t believe that Stanley of all people would betray him like this, but that’s his sister. That’s his love. She belongs to him. Filbrick can’t take her away from him. That’s not his place. So Ford goes to the boat bc he knows that’ll be where Stan will go to try to get herself together to plan out (ha, plan, like Stanley could come up with a plan) how she’s going to handle this. and Ford is right. Stan is there, absolutely sobbing and panicking in the little cabin. Ford refuses to feel bad. She brought this on herself. She can’t come back home, but he has a plan. She’s his, and he’ll take care of her. Never mind Filbrick’s ultimatum. Never mind making millions. She ruined his chances for the college he’s dreamt of, but she’ll make it up to him. She’ll stay in the boat, and Ford will bring her things to make it liveable, and she’ll get whatever jobs she can to help him with his college fund. Stan takes the deal. Of course she does. It keeps her with Ford, and that’s all that matters. They have sex, but it’s not good (emotionally. For Stan, it’s all shame and guilt and she’s also really hurt that no one stood up for her. For Ford, it’s anger and betrayal and possessiveness)

Both options end with Ford bringing Stan to college with him. And both options have Stan playing the little house (dorm?) wife role that she always was so desperate to avoid. She cooks and cleans and opens up her legs whenever Ford wants. When she does what he wants, he tells her that she’s good and sweet, so much sweeter than she was before, not so childish and selfish. When she doesn’t, he tells her that she should remember what she did, that he didn’t have to forgive her, didn’t have to save her. And so more and more often, Stan does whatever ford wants, because what’s the alternative? Not being with him? If we’re in option 2, she had a taste of that for about an hour and it felt like it was enough to kill her. And it’s not that Stan doesn’t want to be good and sweet for Ford, she loves him so much, it’s just, she didn’t think it would be like this. And Ford, Ford has everything he wants. He’s accelerating through his programs at a phenomenal pace, he has the respect of his academic peers and professors (people look at his hands funny but for the first time, no one comments), he’s on the path he’s dreamed of for himself, and every night he comes home to the love of his life. And sure, she needs reminders sometimes that he saved her, maybe a firm hand so that she doesn’t forget that it was her who betrayed him and almost cost them everything, but otherwise, she’s there and she’s his and she’s perfect, especially when her stomach starts to swell up with the little life that he always imagined they would one day create.

They are happy. Sort of. This is what they wanted. Sort of.

Bc i don’t think these two can truly be happy until they’ve first been thru hell and actually learn how much they mean to each other, what all they would sacrifice for each other. And also, like imagine the horror show of bill fucking with ford when his sister and kid are targets as well.

me and my members received rewards for our first win from our company. each member asked for something different and me? i asked for a dog. and yes, i named him after cauliflower . he’s a curious comet of energy, always fascinated by mundane things, truly a child seeing the world for the first time. i know technically i got him and named him and wtv, but honestly speaking, he’s the group’s dog, the girls and i all raised him together, we trained him together, he’s our collective child and the goodest boy

okay I am Walker's no.1 hater (fight me for it) and even I can say Wyatt did a brilliant job of that. Walker was well written and well played and I cannot fault that. However I still hate him. You can't blame me - he just has a punchable face.

EDIT HERE BC A COMMENT HAS INFORMED ME ALEXEI FUCKING SUCKS: My entire knowledge of Alexei before watching Thunderbolts* was that he was Yelena and Natasha's dad. Basically my entire memory of watching Black Widow is my dad identifying Smells Like Teen Spirit at the start. I was not aware Alexei was complicit in child trafficking, I now recognise he fucking sucks, and for moral reasons I hate him more than Walker. I'm still Walker's no.1 hater though like I've maintained this title, given to me by my father, for four years. I'm not dropping it now. So while I now hate Alexei, it's not going to change the fact that I hate Walker. I just hate Alexei more.

Taskmaster... I am a little disappointed about. i was really looking forward to more of her, and her death was just... why? I kept expecting her to show up and she didn't. It felt a bit flat. I didn't exactly miss her, as I have no emotional attachment to her like I do for Yelena, Bucky and Ava, but I felt she was not done justice.

Pausing writing this to inform anyone reading this that I am writing this with Yelena's voice in my head saying it. She's speaking my internal monologue now. It's quite funny.

Anyway.

I went into the film fully aware that the villain was Bob's insecurities, but I was. I was not ready enough. Oh my god. That was absolutely incredible. Bob's plot line on his own was 10/10 omfg. I'm still recovering from really, really shit mental health and it keeps coming back and the way mental health was handled in Thunderbolts* has made me feel seen in a way nothing else has. We watch mental health videos at school and I feel nothing, or I watch films that are entirely about mental health and yeah, okay, they're sad and they're good but I feel nothing. This? Nothing has explained it more than the Void. I have rarely hated any character more than I hated the Void, because in a weird fucking way, I know him. He's fictional, but he's also very, very real.

Florence Pugh's acting was phenomenal. I cannot praise her enough. The line "I have so many" broke something in me, I think. She was simultaneously heartbreaking, healing and hilarious and I fucking adored her. Also, kudos to the makeup department because she looked fucking incredible.

Kudos to the stunt doubles too. I love stunt doubles, y'all are awesome, and you were NOT pulling punches on this one.

Things I wished there was more of:

Bucky screen time. I know he was there a lot, but I felt like there was more Alexei than there was more Bucky, which makes sense but also I'm more of a Bucky fan so I WANT MORE BUCKY :(((((( also we were promised a film about Bucky and he was sidelined. I know this is being said a lot, and it's annoying as fuck, but it is true. He doesn't have any special reason for being a main character, but Sebastian Stan has worked his ASS off as Bucky and he is always the side guy for someone. Steve, Sam (although I do have things to say on him), now Yelena? Bucky needs his own time too.

Alpine. GIVE ME MY GIRL PLEASEEEEEEE MARVEL I BEG YOU ON MY HANDS AND KNEES GIVE ME MY CAT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLE-

Scenes of the team in their day to day life. We saw a snippet of Bucky, we saw half a glimpse of Alexei, and it wasn't enough. I am more interested in the daily lives of these guys than I am in half the shit with Valen-fucking-tina.

Speaking of Valentina, she continues to piss me off. I can't even like her because she's hot. She's a fucking cunt. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hate her more than I hate Walker. I would like more scenes of her being fucking DECIMATED please.

I was going to say I wanted more scenes of Mel being brave, but actually, we got enough. I really liked her. She wasn't any big hero, but she called the right person for help, and I think sometimes if that's the best you can do, that's being a hero in itself. So I love her, and I think she was incredibly brave for calling Bucky at all.

Right. Some people are gonna be pissed at me for this one, but Sam. I wanted more Sam. I'm going to step away for a second as a Sambucky shipper, and just be a Sam fan. Actually this needs its own section.

SAM. I understand that this is a film about the Thunderbolts*, and about Yelena and this group of people who aren't exactly perfect but they're heroes all the same etc etc. And I know people are angry that they're making the New Avengers without Sam because MARVEL is sidelining him, and I absolutely agree that he has been sidelined too much. He gets the shield, it goes to Walker. He gets it back, now Captain Carter is the famous captain. It's shit, and he's being treated like shit, and I'm so angry about it. But I think, in this instance, as much as it is absolutely shit, it kinda makes sense?. Valentina's character was always going to take credit for it, and so she was always going to try and make the New Avengers. I'm not saying it was inevitable, I'm saying that from a plot point of view, it makes sense. They've got Sam pissed about it, they've been setting up Sam's avengers for a while, and we can all see that. They aren't being subtle about it. I, for some fucking reason, have faith that Sam will get another few moments to shine at the very least, and he will lead his own Avengers. I don't think Bucky and Sam are fighting as much as you guys think they are. I honestly think it will be okay. Maybe not as peachy as we would like, but it will be okayish. Sam will get his team and his recognition, and Bucky will get... his team. Bucky gets a family, anyway.

Considering the main cast consisted of Bucky AND Walker, there should have at least been a reference to Sam. Again, not from a Sambucky POV (kinda from a sambucky pov but hey, I'm just a little pathetic gay. let me be biased). Okay, not ENTIRELY from a Sambucky POV. But anyway. Bucky is now TIED to Captain America. He has been Captain America's close friend (that hurt to type) TWICE. He is INTERTWINED with Captain America. And Walker's fall from grace is BECAUSE of Sam. You know what would have been good? Walker making an offhand comment about it and Bucky making a little comment defending Sam. Nothing big, just a REFERENCE. Sam is huge. He's Captain fucking America. He has been sidelined for far too long. He isn't just the Falcon now. Captain America, whoever holds that shield correctly, is the face of MARVEL. Sam Wilson is the face of MARVEL and if there is a film that has characters who are that close to him? He should be mentioned. Not just because I want him to be, but because he deserves to be.

Anyway my main issues were Taskmaster's death, Bucky not getting enough screen time, Sam not getting so much as a crumb, a lack of Alpine, and not getting enough of the team's daily lives. Valentina getting punched in the face would just be a wonderful bonus.

Overall, a brilliant movie. Highly recommend. I cried, so that tells you it's worth something. Go watch it, if only for Bob and Yelena and Bucky on a motorbike.

i always saw her as an alpha, which yes is kinda stereotypical, but she is someone who protects the ones she loves. and i thought it would be cute for our favorite omega gihun to have a scary alpha adopted daughter! she wouldn't like sangwoo getting close to gihun bc she can tell what he eally wants (a piece of that ass) but it totally cool with ali, because he's a kind alpha who would never hurt gihun. it would make sangwoo paranoid that this runt of a girl can read him so well and gihun would be upset that his two favorite alphas wouldn't get along.

I would say it’s placed during this timeline rn and it is very much humanly possible for her to act like she’s okay since it’s been installed in her to act like that since birth, she raised on not showing vulnerability so ofc it would be easy for her to act like she’s okay, she’s been doing it for over a decade. the’ve seen her upset about an ignorant interviewer or some hate comments but it wasn’t to extent that it was taken seriously because it’s yn she’s always fine in their eyes, they’ve never seen her get rlly worked up before because she’s just that good at repressing her emotions.

they think she’s the most stanned because her father is not only just a rich businessman but a businessman that’s loved in korea, he’s a very known person and does “good.” for the people (which he rlly doesn’t but lets not get into that.) which obviously isn’t the reason why yn is the most stanned she’s just rlly loved for her talents and visuals. there is an undertone of envy when it comes to yn and her members and you’ll see it more very soon in the next couple of small things I’ll put out in between the chapters but because of that they immediately resort to her money being the reason for all of her achievements outside the group. they love her but also have some sort of secret animosity over her that never rlly let them build their relationship with yn like they have with each other. (that’s excluding kazuha ofc) like yeah they’ll talk to her but that doesn’t stop their thoughts getting to their head (again excluding kazuha.)

one thing about them it doesn’t matter how talented yn is they can’t help but think she got where she is with her dad’s money and the fact that she was under sm but as soon as her dad started doing business with hybe she got immediately transferred to hybe rlly fuels it for them, they think her dad has to be helping her sometimes and it’s funny because they don’t even think that in a hating way it’s just what makes the most sense to them because for some reason ofc the most privileged in the group is the one who has the most brand deals and popularity but in reality yns dad doesn’t give two shits about her popularity in the industry, he only made her transfer to hybe because he didn’t want to her to work with competition.

stray kids as...my loved ones

author's note: it's been a while since i've posted and im not sure how how many new lovies have joined since i lowkey ghosted everyone! but in case you guys didn't know, i have the sweetest, silliest stay family (we all went to the stray kids concert together in melbs). and i feel like my love for them and their personalities really correspond to certain members, especially through our relationships. i've been wanting to make a post like this for a while and here it finally is! enjoy x

my mum as lee minho

like minho, my mum is quite introverted, but very giggly and talkative when she's with our family and her few close friends. she's selective about who she shows this side of her personality to, and it just makes it more special for those (like me) who get to see it daily

when watching the skz two kids room, mum said that jisung and minho's friendship is a lot like our relationship (SOBBING). whilst im loud and a certified yapper, my mum is still my quiet, safe space and a place where i can just calm myself down and lower my energy

we're also both on the adhd spectrum which i majorly see for them lols

she loves to cook, and acts of service are her way of showing her love. she grew up in a japanese household, and culturally you don't show as much affection, but she's learning. and im a major physical touch girlie, and ive seen her try to teach herself to love me that way. basically the best mum ever

oh, and she ADORES cats!

she's also lowkey like a mum of skz, kinda like minho is, but from a distance obvs. she treats them all like her sons, she has a picture of them on our fridge, photocard in her phone, listens to skz lofi whilst working. she supports them in every way and always gets so excited about their achievements.

essentially, she's a very calming, but at times chaotic presence, and im so lucky to have her. she's the perfect person to balance me out.

again, above all, he's just a very sweet, silly guy. he's very dependable, and he and i will often work on house projects together, whether it be painting or building furniture or making him help me rearrange my bedroom. with twice blasting in the background, it's gonna get done and it's gonna get done WELL

he's very accepting and listens when i yap, or when im confused about things. him and mum have that balance of giving me very down to earth advice, but also silly jokes and comments

oh she's the sweetest. i wake up to little notes and paper crafts from her, and she LOVES to bake me sweet treats. i take her on little coffee dates to the cafe where i work, and my coworkers adore her. yes, she gets two extra marshmallows for free. sometimes a third. sometimes a cookie, too. they're whipped, and who wouldn't be?

she's also a gamer BAHAHAHA if you count dress to impress, and she's GOOD. even though she's legit only 10 herself, she tells those other basic 10 year olds who's boss. always on the podium, making her fashionista sister proud

she always just wants to spend time with people. she's like a cat, just follows you around. sometimes adorable, sometimes drives me crazy.

Oooh an interesting question. I definitely wasn’t leaning this way when coming up the au but what a great sandbox to play in! Because the twins are growing up in the late 50s and into the 60s and with Filbrick and Caryn as parents. Even if Caryn was over there like “eh, the queers and trannies are harmless” ain’t no way Filbrick thinks that, and he’s definitely the authority in the house. We definitely see in canon that the twins are raised with a very rigid definition of manliness and so we can assume the same for femininity and which one is worth more. What is Stan thinking hearing all of this and realizing that she doesn’t fit what a woman is supposed to be. She feels more like what their dad says about men. How difficult is that to come to terms with under a roof that doesn’t allow for these types of questions. But Stan knows in his—not her, that’s not right—gut that he isn’t a girl. And it’s Stan, so i think he can’t help but love that, because if he’s a boy, well, ford is a boy too! he’s even more like ford now!! And that’s great but then he also has to deal with the feelings. Is he actually attracted to his twin or does he just want to be more like him? Is it somehow both??

And nailing down where Ford lands on all of this is difficult bc on the one hand, I really love it when that idiot is stuck in that backwards type of thinking. I always think it’s way funnier that he then has to confront the multiverse and comes out as the kinkiest motherfucker known to man who can’t remember what taboos are what in which dimension. But since we’re in the Sort Of Happy au and there’s no multiverse adventures (yet? Idk it could be fun for them) does Ford remain locked into that Men Are This And Women Are That binary mindset or does his intrigue about anomalies win out? How odd that his twin who was raised in the exact house and manner he was thinks this way. Ford is a weirdo and freak on the outside. Stanley is a weirdo and freak inside. they compliment each other, always and in all things. And he’s got to deal with his feelings too. He wants Stan as a woman and as a man,as his sister and his brother. What does that say about him?

And if we go with that first option, Men Are This/Women Are That, Stan is having to hide who he actually is in even more ways. It’s bad enough that he’s “married” to his twin and they have to be so careful about what they say if anyone else is around, but he also has to pretend that he’s a woman still and it carves gash after gash into his soul every day. He does what he can, keeps his hair short, wears clothing that could go either way, but it’s not him and that hurts. Stan lives in that constant vigilance mode. Just so many things have gone wrong in ways he didn’t expect and he got blindsided before, he doesn’t want it to happen again. So he’s always watching and paying close attention to everything that’s happening in the house and he notices some things about Noah that are familiar. He sees the way that Noah seems to be intrigued by feminine things, and their house is pretty short on that because Ford just Doesn’t Do That and Stan tries to steer away from as much as he can for his own peace of mind and sanity (boxing was the only non feminine thing he was allowed to have growing up, everything else was dresses adn bows and home ec and be a lady so you can find a good husband and make babies). But Noah seems curious and seems like he’s going to start pushing against boundaries, and Stan is scared of that too bc what is Ford going to think about all that? Especially as Bill comes into the picture and he gets worse and worse.

I think in this case, even with his parents being kind of set on this binary, Noah isn’t into that. Whether it’s because she’s trans femme or bc he’s nonbinary, it’s more about the vibes. Noah’s got a lot of rough and tumble about him, so even if we’re going femme, she’s not going to be thinking she needs to be a walking embodiment of a Barbie doll to be a girl. She’s still just going to throw on whatever clothes and barely brush her hair and go run outside to play and get dirty. I kind of like the idea of Noah being so unburdened by it compared to Stan and Ford, adn she’s unburdened completely on accident. Stan is confused and a little jealous but also so so happy that it’s so easy for his baby to just be themself bc he has never had that luxury.

Ford would take a long time to notice what’s up, if he notices at all. Maybe not even until Bill is gone and everyone is finally happy. Like Ford is accepting of Stanley as a man now, fully supportive and on board adn if that makes him gay, well ok whatever, he loves his husband then. I think it would be very funny if Noah just like dropped it on him so casual one day and ford is like “??? Since when??????????????” And Noah just like points at this plastic clip she put in her hair (same mop cut of curls she’s always had) that’s purple and shaped like a flower and is like “dad I’ve been wearing this for like five months, how did you not figure this out? Don’t you have like 12 phds?” And Stan is crying from laughing so hard and Ford pouts for the rest of the day

The section on 정 or jeong, and how easily Henry explains it to Gansey is probably one of my favorite parts. I have a whole break down over it in the margins followed by “just date already!!”

Title: We’re All Broken, Stan

I walk toward bathroom of the cabin. The music from the party still loud as ever, I could hear the muffled base drops of the songs, and girls screaming about how this was their “jam” and feel the subtle vibrations of their dancing.

I have been looking for Stan all evening, asking various people where he’s been. Kenny said he saw him dive into the lake. Butters said he saw him enter Tolkien’s cabin. We weren’t supposed to be inside, it’s a bonfire for crying out loud, but at least I asked Tolkien if I could go in, and he said if Stan is inside to please get him out. So here I am.

I open the door.

There he is. He’s wearing ripped skinny jeans and a red flannel, and his busted ass Chuck Taylor’s and his red puff ball hat. He is clutching a bottle of whisky, and his eyes are closed. They are red and puffy. He has visual acne and, his scars are back.

Despite looking like a drunken mess of a man, I still think he looks beautiful.

“Good Morning, stranger.” I said.

He jolted awake and glared at me, trying to see who I was.

“Kyle? Is that you? Isn’t it the middle of the night??” he asked

“Well it’s 1:30am, so technically morning.” I said

“what are you doing here?” he said.

He isn’t as drunk as I thought he was going to be, I take that as a good sign.

“I could ask you the same thing,” I said

“What I wanted to do was drown in the lake. At least then I’d feel something.” he said

I walk over and sit next to him.

“Randy?” I asked.

I wanted to bring him into a hug. Just simply engulf him in my love but I refrain.

“He fucking got arrested again, and called my mom to bail him out, and she refused. So I did. Then she got all pissed off that I helped Randy and just left.” he said starting off into the hallway.

“I’m sorry. I’m sure she still loves you, she just needs to deal with her own feelings. It’s good that you helped your dad.” I said

“Fucking bullshit, Kyle. He didn’t even care! He didn’t even say so much as a thank you or acknowledgement. He’ll probably go back to jail next week. Oh and Sharon? She’s never cared about me. She just cares about herself. No one gives a flying rats ass if I live or die, because nothing I do is ever good enough!!” he said, tear drops leaking down his face.

“Don’t say that. So it didn’t work out this time. Doesn’t mean you go unnoticed.” I said

I placed a hand on his knee and faced directly at him. Breathing in and out, trying to transfer my energy to him.

“Kyle, no one ever notices me. I do all this shit to help my dumb fucking parents, for what? So we can be a family? I’m sure to do that we’d have to love each other first. They don’t even notice me enough to like me. Besides, no one can love someone who is this broken.” said Stan, as he took a giant gulp of the whiskey

“Ugh, this taste awful” he said.

He is still crying, I wish I knew how to make this better. I wish I knew how to let him know that if I lost him, I’d lose myself. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without him.

“We’re all broken, Stan. It doesn’t make you less perfect. At least to me.” I said

I leaned in and he turned his face toward me.

“I’m not perfect. Kyle. Why do you still do this? Why do you still even fucking care? Don’t you see how I’m beyond repair?? I didn’t mean for that to sound like a stupid rhyme” he said as he drank more of the whiskey

“I don’t give up on people, Stan. I certainly won’t give up on you. I need you to know that, I think you are perfect. Broken or not, and I will never stop trying to help you see the you that I see.” I said.

We slowly had moved several centimeters away from each other. Our breathing was mismatched. I think I could almost hear, Stan’s heart beating. I felt so close to him but so far away.

I closed my eyes and leaned in, and once our lips touched, I tasted the watery salt of his tears.

this episode didn't commit any major crimes (aside from picard disobeying orders to go on an archaeology hunt - kirk took disobeying even trivial orders so seriously he only did so to save spock's life and was certain his would end his career over it...ANYWAY)

however it was. very. boring

wait sorry i just remembered yes it did commit a crime. aside from that other thing. we're all humanoids bc of that bald lady's alien race seeding us on every planet they could find? isn't that kind of violating the prime directive? like yes ik they didn't have that back then but to let no life develop naturally...we all got grown out of test tubes or something?

to be honest, i might not have been following the plot of that episode wholly i was playing ch*ss on my phone with catherine. cathy, if you're reading this, it's your turn.

here's the thing about ds9. the plot of this episode fucking sucked ass, but i don't mind in the least because the characters are all so good and actually get to do stuff and form bonds with each other! wild how that works!

the b plot of this also sucked. okay, i LOVE how you remembered to highlight that wendy does, in fact, love her family to death. like, seriously, that's what makes it important. she loved her mother, still does actually!! she loves her dad and brothers. she loves being a big sister. but that doesn't mean she can't have a family-like relationship with the pines and soos, and, so, she does. her job is ironically the place when she can relax and she CHOOSES to spend her time afterwork in the shack with the pines. and not all the time, sometimes she'll want to watch ducktective with her bros, no problem. but if she chooses to stay with her coworkers, who are slowly turning into something more, she will come home later and she will be greeted there with smiles and love. that's,,, normal. that's her life.

like, it's so fucking important that she is not only the oldest child in her family, she is also the only daughter. that is SUCH a dangerous combo, but we know that she goes on trips with her boys, her dad taught them all how to survive during an apocalypse (which is, let's be real here, a kind of spending quality time together. you can't tell me she didn't have fun pretending to fight zombies and create weapons from trash with her bros).

also, you made a really good point with stan most likely knowing wendy's mom and just wendy as a little girl. knowing dan before he lost his wife, before he became a single father of four (magneto?? i'm sorry, i love this joke). he isn't as hard on her as he is on soos because of that and BEFORE YOU GUYS YELL AT ME. yes. soos didn't have it easy at all. but, first of all: soos is much older. 15 and 22 years old is actually a huge difference. and, second of all: we KNOW that stan treats girls and boys kind of differently. this is NOT me hating on stan; this is me acknowledging that he is an old man, raised to believe that the only kind of love a boy needs to become a man is a tough one. we all know filbrick pines. it is also clearly showed in how stan treats the twins. before this turns into a stanley pines post; he is softer towards girls and lets them get away with more things not bc he thinks they are weaker and the boys are the ones that are supposed to be tough or some other shit, but bc he was raised that way and it actually turned out to save his life multiple times. that's why he lets wendy do all the things she does (or doesn't do) during her JOB that he PAYS HER FOR; this is a guy who knew her as a careless child, and now she lost her mother and has to take care of her brothers and stan knows what it means to love your brother(s), so how could he not hire that girl?

Thinking about how important it is that Wendy is a part of the Pines family. (Because she is, as much as Soos is. It's why she's in the family photos, such as the one representing Ford's happiness at the end of The Book of Bill.)

We don't know too much about Wendy's home / family life. Unfortunately, we don't a single Wendy-focused episode, and we don't get to learn too much about her outside of how she interacts with the main characters. But here is what we do know:

Wendy is the oldest of four siblings, with three little brothers. Wendy herself is 15. We are never given ages for her brothers, but given the photo that she shows Dipper of her younger self in "Double Dipper", I'm guesstimating that the youngest Corduroy brother (Gus) is about 6 in the present day. This is because young!Wendy was wearing braces and also noted to be "freakishly tall" for her age, and Gus was wearing a diaper in the photo (but standing on his own). Braces can take two to three years to be removed, and Wendy doesn't have them in the present day, meaning she was probably around 11 or 12 in the photo. Meanwhile, Gus was in a diaper but able to stand, meaning he was probably a toddler, likely around 2. So in the present day, Wendy is 15, Gus is around 6 (depending on if Wendy was 11 or 12 in the photo), and Marcus and Kevin (the middle brothers) are between 14 and 7.

Wendy's mother died when she was young. Given the age of Gus in the photo, we can estimate that Wendy's mother died when Wendy was, at youngest, 11 or 12 -- so, three or four years pre-canon. (Because any earlier than that and Gus couldn't have been born.)

Wendy's father is Manly Dan, who shouts just about every line of dialogue he has and routinely breaks things, including in his own house, albeit sometimes by accident. He also spends most of his time in a biker bar, though we do know that he does love his children. (e.g. is seen with the boys on both family fishing day and Summerween, is seen taking Wendy out for breakfast in "Dipper vs. Manliness").

Dan is the reason why Wendy has a summer job. As she says in "Gideon Rises", "If I can't work at the Shack, my dad's gonna force me to work at my cousin's logging camp up north." This implies that Wendy has to work somewhere, per a rule of Dan's.

In "Into the Bunker", Wendy has this to say when she comments on how she's excited to be going on an adventure with Dipper and Mabel: "It beats cleaning up after my dad at home." She says this with a frown, in a grousing tone. We're then treated to a clip of Dan breaking apart the cabin as mentioned above.

In "Society of the Blind Eye", before she's about to have her memories erased, Wendy confesses thus: "I'm stressed like 24/7. Have you MET my family?"

Wendy dreams about her mother every night. The glimpse of her dream that we're shown depicts her receiving a comforting hug from her mother.

The conclusions that I draw from the above are thus: prior to her mother's death, Wendy had what amounts to a normal family life in Gravity Falls. The Corduroys were a two parent household, her mother was there to help balance Dan out and raise the kids (Wendy included), and Wendy could, well . . . be a kid. It's possible, even, that some of Dan's more worrying traits (such as spending the majority of his time at a bar) didn't exist when Wendy's mom is alive. It's pure speculation on my part, but it's possible that Dan feels compelled to go to a bar to be aggressive (and drink, even if we don't see it because it's a kid's show) because that's how he processes his grief over his wife's death, away from his children's eyes and ears. He's trying to be a responsible father and not hurt his kids, while at the same time still not handling things in the most healthy way.

But back to Wendy. Once Wendy's mother died, the dynamic in the Corduroy household shifted. Dan was hit by the tidal wave of grief that comes with losing a spouse, as well as the sudden onslaught of being a single father to four children, one of whom was very possibly still in diapers. And if my speculation is correct and that he took to going to the bar to deal with his grief, then who is left to change Gus' diapers and get him potty trained? To operate the stove or oven or microwave to make sure that the boys (who would all be under age 10 at this point) got fed, and to make sure she got fed herself? To, in her own words, "clean up [her] dad's messes" when he was at home to make them by breaking apart the house with his own head?

Wendy.

Wendy was a child herself when her mother died, but she was the oldest child, potentially freshly into middle school while the boys were still in elementary, and the oldest daughter to boot. The girl, expected to know how to do "girl things" like cook and clean. I'm not saying that Dan told her to do these things, but we know from Wendy's personality that she is protective of those who need it (e.g. Dipper and Mabel) and, more importantly, that's her home and her family, and she does love them (she makes this clear in the Weirdmageddon episodes numerous times). She wouldn't let her little brothers starve, wouldn't let her youngest sit in a filthy diaper, would try to pick up the house if her dad and brothers wouldn't. Wendy would step up to do it out of necessity, even if she hated it and felt stressed out about it, especially while also feeling the crushing grief that comes with having lost her mother.

So Wendy, having lost her mother at a young age, probably had to step up into a pseudo-parental role in her own house, trying her best to fill the void that was left by her mother's passing even though she was only a child herself. And this is why she's "stressed, like, 24/7." Because not only are her father and brothers loud and chaotic (especially with Dan raising the boys into miniature versions of him), but because it's her responsibility (spoken or no) to keep the house in as much order as she can. It's little wonder that, outside of the movie that she and Dipper are watching in the beginning of "Into the Bunker", Wendy seems to spend as little time as possible in her own home.

So, how does this fit into it being important for Wendy to be part of the Pines family? Or, worded in a better way, why it's so important that she has the Pines as a second family, and the Mystery Shack as a second home?

As I said above, once Wendy's mother died, her ability to be a child in her own home effectively ended. Again, to make it clear, Wendy doesn't hate her family. In fact, it's the opposite; the Weirdmageddon episodes make it clear that she still loves her father and her brothers very much. But "Society of the Blind Eye" also makes it clear that they stress her out. She has a lot of complicated feelings, something that's understandable given her complicated situation.

But because she has to help keep the house together when she's at home, that means she can only really be a kid (or teenager, as the case may be) when she's outside of it. She has a lot of fun doing this with her friends, but sometimes a teen does need a home to relax in. And for Wendy, that home is the Mystery Shack -- and yes, that includes when she's on the clock.

Now, I know what you may be thinking: it's stated that Stan is a terrible boss, that he barks orders, that he yells -- how is that any different from her father? Well, I'll tell you how: the only time we actually see this is in "Boss Mabel", in which Stan being a boss who yells and barks orders at his employees is a plot point meant to create the conflict for the episode. Otherwise, we never really see Stan being an awful boss, and in particular we never see him being hard on Wendy. In fact, I would argue we see the opposite.

Here are things we know about Wendy's behavior at work, and Stan's response to her behavior at work:

Wendy constantly reads magazines while working the cash register, often right in front of Stan. Stan never tells her to put the magazine away.

Wendy often puts her feet up on the counter. Stan never tells her to take her feet off the counter.

Wendy goes up to the roof "all the time, every day" to the point where she has a chair and cooler up there. ("The Inconveniencing"). We don't know if Stan knows about this or not, but it's hard to believe he wouldn't if Wendy goes up there as much as she says she does.

When Stan told her to hang signs up out in the woods, she said, "I would, but I can't . . . reach . . ." while making no effort to get up to get the sign, and not removing her eyes from the magazine or her feet from the counter. Stan simply said, "I'd fire [. . .] you if I could." i.e. she got away with it 100%. ("Tourist Trapped")

When Stan double checks with Wendy and Soos that they'll wash the bathrooms while he's gone, Wendy says, "absolutely not" with a salute. Stan laughs and then says to stay out of trouble, not caring at all. ("The Inconveniencing")

Wendy was supposed to work the ticket stand all night at the party. She quit about ten minutes in and blatantly joined the party. Stan had to have seen her. He did nothing. ("Double Dipper")

Wendy claims in "Boss Mabel" that Stan doesn't let her have friends at work. In contrast, we see Robbie visit her at work all the time throughout their relationship (e.g. "Fight Fighters", "Boyz Crazy"), and Stan even comments on "is that the guy that's always making googly eyes at Wendy?" but otherwise has no problem with it. So again, it was a conflict invented for "Boss Mabel" that otherwise doesn't exist.

And that is just off the top of my head. The point is, Wendy is perhaps treated the easiest of the staff at the Mystery Shack. She's blatantly lazy and snarky and the most Stan ever does is grouse that he would "fire [her] if he could."

And this is a good thing.

The Mystery Shack, even if when she's on the clock, is clearly a place where Wendy can relax. It's somewhere she feels comfortable, rather than stressed. Yes, she's working -- but she's putting in the barest minimum effort because the stakes are the lowest they could possibly be. Because even though Stan grouses and complains about how little she cares, he won't fire her. He says he can't, but let's be honest, he could. One could argue that he'd be out a cashier, but he already is when the school year starts and Wendy has to go back to school. The Shack doesn't close down then, so it wouldn't close now if he fired Wendy.

But he won't fire her, because he knows that if he did, she'd be sent up north to her cousin's logging camp, a job she would hate and that would add on to the stress she already has from her home life. Stan has been in Gravity Falls for 30 years; he's been there since before Wendy was born. He knew her mother. He remembers when her mother died a few years ago. He probably saw how Dan's personality changed, how Wendy's personality changed from a more carefree little girl to a little girl who had to act more carefree than she actually was because she won't ever dare let anyone know she's anything but tough as nails, kinda like the guy he sees when he looks in the mirror. So he'll grouse at her about her laziness, and she'll complain about how much she hates having to work, but he'll also never hire another cashier even during the school year when the Shack maybe could use the extra help, and she knows that he both has an orthopedic back pillow and where it's kept, and that's as much as either of them will say about it. (Source for the orthopedic back pillow: "Soos and the Real Girl").

Wendy spends time at the Shack that would otherwise be spent at her home. When she decides to leave Tambry's party early, she goes to hang out at the Shack and watch movies with Stan, before the twins or Soos arrive ("Summerween"). She's likewise hanging out with the Pines and Soos watching television despite work clearly being over in the beginning of "Dreamscaperers". Wendy can relax at the Shack, can be in a home environment where she has no responsibilities, where she can simply be a teenager without also having to be a pseudo-parent. She can be a big sister figure to Dipper and Mabel without the added responsibilities of having to make sure they're fed and brought up right. She can be snarky with Stan, and he'll be snarky back, and there are no risks or consequences at all.

It's important that Wendy is a member of the Pines family, because here there are no complications for her. She loves her original family, but things got difficult when her mother died, and they won't ever stop being difficult. But things aren't difficult with the Pines. In a way, being with the Pines is as comfortable as the hugs she gets from her mother in her dreams every night. Being with the Pines feels right. It feels safe.

It's good that Wendy has them. It's important that Wendy has them. And fortunately, she always will.

Im watching gravity falls for the first time but i have some knowledge. (ie im reckless and look at tags knowing there is spoilers lol)

I know there are two grunkles both possibly named some variation of stan. One with six fingers and that one fucked a triangle. i also tjink theyre exes? Or like theres a book that says they are. Either way ?

I know theres books and the other stan(?) wrote them? There is... A portal? And it somehow facilitated the situationship betwixt man and angle.

Bearded man also fucked stans twin? the picture i have of stan 2 the squeakwel is just of a messy messy man who has alot to clean up from his ho era.

I also know that things are about to go very very wrong. It hasnt yet cause im only up to fight fighters but like i feel in my bones something more than the 8.5th president is going to occure

anyways I've had thoughts.

One: robbie is fucking hilarious. Hes 15 deeply deeply insecure and beefing with a Twelve yearold. Like you won. You got wendy to say yes to a date theres negative reason to challenge a child to a fight. Hilarious cant wait for him to lay awake at night and cringe at that memory. especially bc dipper giving her a black eye was his wingmanning! Funny dude cant wait to see what happens with his disaster of an ass. (also during the time travel ep i was like damn robbie can suck a little but hes not that bad. Timing was strange but him asking out wendy was kinda sweet. Then fight fighters happened lol. Man is so wrapped up in making a child feel bad he ignored his gf. Terrible give me five more.)

Two: holy shit the wax figure thing mustve been so upsetting for grunkle stan. Like he shrieked upon seeing it! He crawled away backwards. I might be reading to far into that but he seemed scared (?). I love how quick he recovered for mabels sake tho their dynamic is so sweet. Shes a little weird girls and hes like taking her under his wing. the definition of dad who didnt want a pet. I love how they understand each other.

Did he wonder, even for a moment, if it was his dead/missing brother??? Like i have brothers if we still looked alike enough to be twin levels of similar and someone made a statue of me id also scream. Also like his investment in having the "murder" solved feels so weird knowing he has a mysterious disapeared twin. his investment feels heavier. Like hes projecting his grief.

Does watching Mabel and Dipper interact happily make him miss other stan? also how do other family members feel about this diapearance? Clearly bad since they never told dipper and mabel. But them being the grunkles implies they have at least on more sibling. Howd they feel about the disappearance?

I cant wait to get more details on those two. i feel like their relationship has to be all levels of fucked for him to never mention having a twin. Like no matter how mad i was with my bros id fucken mention them at least once even by accident to their nibblings.

Three: i like how often mabels outfit changes i love her silly themed sweaters and fun earrings. The cross fingers gag on the back of her sweater after lying to her grunkle stan made me laugh. Shes so weird and fun and loud and i love her. Dispite now being a guy i see myself in weird little girl characters. Like yeah i too would've glued a hot glue gun tomyself and wore chips as earrings. I too would have lost my mind over losing my pig. delightful i adore her randomness.

Four: dipper is equally relatable but in a way that makes me scream lol. His anxietys are so familiar to me hope he sees someone for that. And that book cannot be helping. The author was clearly paranoid and while dipper wrote that he trusts mabel i worry that he wont always.

Ok this hasn’t been asked abt BUT

I got OrangeJuiceVerse Stan on the brain (again)

Specifically in terms of his protectiveness.

In the last OJV ask I got I mentioned that he and Kyle have the most parental tendencies of the Star Seven, and boy oh boy do I have some thoughts on Stan’s knight in shining armor complex!

I won’t get into the Kyle part of that bc 1) I have talked wayyyy too much abt that on ao3 and here, and 2) that’s a whole separate long ass post and I would probably combust.

But!!! First focusing on the M5:

So growing up together they were all generally referred to as “Stan’s Gang”, which he was like wait why are they my gang but then he grew to love that bc they were his people. He loves them with all of his soul (ojverse Stan is a lover for sure) and he is EXTREMELY protective of everyone and kind of (smh this man) sees himself as the dad of the crew. Done with everyone’s bs, the “fun” parent. A lot of that comes from his resentment of Randy, his desire to keep everyone out of true danger and not be flaky despite his own problems. This is especially poignant with Kenny.

So Stan and Kyle VERY much see Kenny as “their egg” (yes I’m borrowing from the “Stan is a protective father” note of that episode) and they really look out for him growing up bc of his shitty home life. Really all of the M5 have a soft spot for Ken, but Stan and Kenny understand each other on a spiritual level. Though Stan doesn’t consciously know abt Kenny’s immortality and IS his Ride Or Die Disaster Bi in all things reckless, the second something goes wrong he’s there, swooping in and reminding him that “yeah you can be a crazy bastard, but don’t you dare die”. He’s less overbearing than Ky gets when Kenny gets hurt, but he’s there to be like “hey man you’re good, you gotta be careful tho”. He was the first to INSIST that he pay kenny in full for his art and commissions stuff regularly through their entire lives.

With Marj, it’s really, really complex. I mentioned before in my OJV Stan hcs (thank you to the wife for that ask btw) that he was the first person she went to when she realized she was a girl! Bc he’s always been pretty emotionally honest and accepting of everything, and she was dealing with her crush on Kenny too and Stan notoriously THINKS he’s slick in being a massive simp so two birds one stone lmao. He was pretty clueless at first but that protective instinct kicked in and he was like GIRL WE GONNA FIND YOU SOME RESOURCES! Also, I’ll do a post abt how NO ONE in the OJV Star Seven is neurotypical soon, but i briefly mentioned in The Wacky Adventures of Craig And Kyle that Marjorine has the ‘tism as well, and Stan is NOT the person to go to when you’re having a meltdown, but rest assured he WILL get you to someone who is. Like she can tell him “Stan I’m feelin a little…” and he will IMMEDIATELY find her Kenny or Kyle. Kyle’s obviously his go to when things are out of his emotional scope, and that extends to Craig later down the line.

So TWEEK!!! Oh god Tweek and Stan’s relationship in the OrangeJuiceVerse is so important to me. They’re the first encounter of the Broken Bottles Quartet, and that moment when Kyle figures out about Tweek’s problem, Stan was full man-with-the-plan mode about how to help him! Before he takes Tweek to AA, he’s at ye ol’ meetin’ hall talking to the old geezers in the local group and it’s like:

“Hey, Stanny Boy, good to see you back, how you healin up (smh I did break his ribs for good reason I promise) got anything to share?” “Actually yeah, I’m gonna bring someone with me in a few days, but you guys HAVE to give him space he gets really nervous.” And the longtime AA peeps who are prone to being overly friendly back off and let Tweek just listen that first time, and Stan is consistently checking in and with Stan’s support Tweek slowly gets more comfortable, and Stan is SO fucking proud of him and he’s his sponsor for a LONG ASS TIME before he officially is.

As for Cartman, once he moves away, Stan will call him up pretty frequently to check in, like “hey fatass how’s the wedding planning company coming?” “Fuck off, hippie did you get the-“ “YES I got the beef jerky club membership quit sending me that shit” “heh, sweet.” “Asshole, but seriously are you doing okay?” “Yes you photosynthesizing dildo. The Jew looks tired in his last facebook post check on him” “I got him, Cartman” “you guys are assholes” “we love you too” “gross” smh theyre so unserious.

But yeah that’s this episode of me not shutting tf up abt OrangeJuiceVerse
