so, i need to start this by saying that i, personally, have never had post-partum depression but i know women who have.

now, gihun is, at least, 50 when has children with inho, if we go by canon, and research shows that advanced maternal age contributes to ppd. and gihun canonically suffers from depression, which increases the risks for post-partum.

i hc inho to be a very prepared parent, so he read all the books and knows this might be a possibility but he never actually took it into consideration.

gihun gives birth to the twins (another hc of mine) and as he holds them in his arms, he feels kinda detached. he's happy they are healthy and he loves them so much, but it is like he is looking at another person's children, not his.

weeks pass and he doesnt feel better.

i think gihun would finally go to a psychiatrist when, one night, the twins are screaming and inho is out on a grocery run, and gihun cant get them to calm down. his presence seems to be making them worst and he, for a second, thinks of leaving them on their bassinets and getting out of their house. he's so convinced that he's a bad mother that he thinks his babies will be better without him, that inho would prefer it if he was dead - he might as well be, since he cant even make a simple decision like what onesie to put on the babies. he actually sets them down and is about to walk out of the house when inho arrives. inho asks him what he is doing and gihun stays quiet, crying silently as the twins continuing screaming their little lungs out. inho grabs gihun's wrist and brings him to the babies, picking one up and again asking gihun where he was going. and gihun, seeing the baby calm down immediately, says that he was leaving, that inho is a better parent than he'll ever be, that the babies hate him and he cant connect with them, and that inho hates him too for being a terrible mother. inho calms him down as much as he can, saying that gihun is wonderful and no one hates him, that the twins love him so much and he, inho, loves gihun so much.

it's a wake up call and they schedule for gihun to see a doctor. he's put on medication and it improves his mood a lot. he joins a support group and their friends help more with the babies, especially junho who practically moves in with them. slowly, gihun gets better. he bonds with the twins and the day he feels confident enough to be left alone with them for a few hours, inho is so proud of him that he tears up.

The Salesman, meanwhile, starts convincing Gi-hun that there’s nothing wrong with the games. He frames it as a way to keep people safe. If Sangwoo was so comfortable killing Ali and Sae-byeok, then what would he have done if he wasn’t in the games? And player 101, what would he have done if unchecked? It’s not his responsibility, he shouldn’t feel guilty, it’s not his fault.

The salesman tempts him into spending more on his money. Their meeting places get more expensive, require nice clothes, and each time the Salesman compliments Gi-hun on his appearance it only makes him want to put more effort into it (especially once he starts falling for the Salesman). The Salesman tells him he should spend his money. It’s what his friends would’ve wanted, for him to live well— no, to live deliciously. To have luxury, comfort, good food, pretty clothes. Anything he could ever want, for those who can’t.

In-ho is very invested in Gi-hun’s slow moral decay, and hates that he can’t just step in and take Gi-hun, but the Salesman promises that he’s taking great care of their pet (and that he’ll share him when the time comes)
