Question and answers post: (Merlin book edition)
Episode: "The Gates of Avalon" S1, E7
Questions written by @tansyuduri
Question: Uther mentions executing Sophia and her father until Arthur backtracks and he lets them go.
BUT SERIOUSLY WHOA Either Tirmawr, is REALLY not an important land. Or Uther does something really stupid here, Or he has absolute power on an insane level.
See arresting nobles that are not from your land usually leads to war if you are not doing it while at war. If it's your own nobles you better have a good reason or the other nobles are NOT going to be happy.
This kind of thing did happen with excuses in places where power was nearly absolute. But almost always with excuses about them being traitors or breaking laws ETC.
My answer: The Merlin complete guide (page 53), mentions that Uther only ordered their execution in order to shock Arthur out of his plans to marry Sophia.
So Uther likely had no actual plans to execute either of them and merely used the threat to scare his son into obedience (so to speak).
However, that being said… (page 86 of the same book), mentions that out of respect or fear - for Uther, the rules of other kingdoms accepted his original ban on sorcery and enforce it in their territories too.
So clearly if Uther commanded that kind of respect (and fear) from other kingdoms with higher up royals with their own kings, queens, ect… Then I seriously doubt any noble house in the realm, would go to war with him over having executed a nobleman and his daughter.
To put it mildly, Uther does have almost unparalleled power.
Book description: Uther sentences the Tirmars to death in order to shock Arthur after he announces his plans to marry Sophia.
Second book description: Since Uther took power in Camelot, he has worked hard to make his kingdom the most powerful and influential in the realm.
He has formed alliances with many other kingdoms, and out of respect - or fear - for Uther, their rulers have accepted his ban on sorcery and enforce it in their territories too.

Arthur: See… See, here's your problem, Lady Sophia. Some men, evolved men, seek a chase. Seek romance. I am one of those men. I believe in slow seduction. I believe in feeding each other poached eggs in bed, and leaving love notes squeegeed on the shower door. I believe in writing the soundtrack to each other's lives. I believe I can fly… I believe in making my woman my queen.

I was nearly killed. For a moment, I felt what it would be like to die a mortal death. He saved me. Someone so weak, so feeble, saved me! I can't bear to be like this for a moment longer.

It's love. These pictures are about love. They're not about murder, they're about love. That's all I've been trying to say. It's just love, that's all it is.... We all need to be set free. I know how to do it.. 'Cause I'm the Auserwahlte... It's the fucking music. It's the music, that's the spell, that's what's going to break the curse... It's like the heaven in the heat of darkness... I can save us. I can save you, Dad. I know how to do that. I can take this hell and I can turn it into heaven.

I still don't understand why Sophia, A Mental Health Nurse, rejected Dylan when he asked her out and then embarrassed him by telling everyone in the department about it
And then...weeks later, asked Dylan out(??) and then gets mad when he hesitates

The way Sophia is basically bullying Dylan for (indirectly or directly, doesn’t really matter) his neurodivergent traits gets me so mad.
She keeps acting like Dylan is doing something wrong for not communicating with her like everyone else and keeps poking fun at his mannerisms when going about his ordinary business.
She is also manipulative and to an extent gaslighting Dylan. She keeps acting like he has shown romantic interest in her and has asked her to go out when he hasn’t.

The time traveling alien known as the Doctor (Doctor 10) was on a broken spaceship in the 51st Century and was surprised when he looked through a fireplace and saw a young French woman in 1764. He first saw her as a little girl, she now was a woman aged 42. ("The Girl in the Fireplace", Doctor Who vlm 3, TV)

Question and answers post: (Merlin book edition)
Episode: "The Gates of Avalon" S1, E7
Questions written by @tansyuduri
First question: Arthur is neither weak or feeble so it implies Sidhe might have increased strength. Or she's just referring to him being mortal.
Tumblr media
My answer: As a Sidhe - albeit an exiled one - she considered herself naturally superior to humans. She saw the sacrifice of Arthur as a means to an end. To her, humans were lesser creatures; there to be used.
Wording taken straight from the book.
Source: Merlin’s Villains guide
Second question: Even the Sidhe are like you know this Arthur guy? Pretty rad not gonna lie. Either that or they are measuring greatest by fighting skill.. or care for their people or something. WHAT IS THE MEASUREMENT HERE.
Tumblr media
Answer: “Sidhe see mortals as lower beings without rights; however, they believe that status in society is a measure of worth (a belief shared by Uther Pendragon), and so despite their low regard for humans, the soul of a prince is seen as a valuable commodity - as the core of a being, the soul is regarded as a powerful charm.”
The Gates of Avalon are closed to the Sidhe Aulfric and Sophia Tirmawi, in punishment for Aulfric taking another Sidhe's life - but the elders agree that Sophia may regain entry to the city in exchange for the soul of a prince, and there is much excitement when the soul of Prince Arthur is offered.
