bbc talking about Chinese film:

bbc: this is functionally a propaganda piece, and the basis of our propagandist red scare headline is a single imdb review!

"I want to make one thing clear. I left BBC News last year after covering Gaza for months because I could see evidence accumulating into the robust conclusion that Israel has been committing war crimes & crimes against humanity" Karishma Patel

Ten journalists who have covered the war on Gaza for two of the world’s leading news networks, CNN and the BBC, have revealed the inner workings of those outlets’ newsrooms from October 7 onward, alleging pro-Israel bias in coverage, systematic double standards and frequent violations of journalistic principles. In several cases, they accused senior newsroom figures of failing to hold Israeli officials to account and of interfering in reporting to downplay Israeli atrocities. In one instance at CNN, false Israeli propaganda was put on air despite advance warnings from staff members.

The BBC have violated their own reporting/impartiality guidelines over 1500 times during the Israel-Gaza war. You are not immune to propaganda, babe.

BBC u suck so much
“Body mix-up” ??????!!!!!!!!
They returned an anonymous body instead of the remains of Shiri Bibas. They killed Kfir and Ariel with their bare hands rather than release them in the initial hostage deal over a year ago.
They tried to blow up 3 buses full of Israelis yesterday (they exploded at the wrong time, killing no one, thankfully).
Hamas is not holding to the ceasefire deal… surprise surprise. They are not a reasonable party and the only reason to negotiate with them are the hostages they still hold.

I know this is a very minor criticism compared to the racism, transphobia, genocide apologism, legitimising of fascist violence etc but something else I've noticed about the BBC recently is they just do not bother putting any effort into any article relating to the railways
So many use outdated images, muddle simple details, and often outright just act as a platform for opponents to any rail project - see this one for example in which the 'analysis' from the BBC completely derails the focus of the article to talk about roads instead https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2mnz9xejyo - as a transport advocate it pisses me off no end
Look ofc there are bigger and smaller issues but those are features of subpar journalism! the news that peddles itself as peak journalism and objective fact to keep people informed invested in its representation of issues should not be muddling details or using misleading images! I don't have the knowledge of rails or transportation infrastructure generally to add much to this but I welcome any details.
The aforementioned "analysis" on an article headlined "Railway sorely in need of investment, study finds" is below for the curious.

Hardly a secret. People at the BBC are told never to use the words Palestine and Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing and other terms. That has been known for a while.

Israel does not want western publics to be exposed to other, more plausible reasons why Hezbollah has been firing rockets for the past year – or what it would take to make it stop. And the western media are ably assisting Israel in keeping those reasons shielded from view. Hezbollah has repeatedly noted that its rocket fire would stop if Israel withdraws from Gaza and ends the slaughter of tens of thousands of Palestinians there, as it is required to do under international law. In two separate decisions, the International Court of Justice (ICC) has ruled that Israel’s decades-long occupation of the Palestinian territories is illegal and an act of aggression against the Palestinian people that must end, and that a "plausible" case has been made that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Though no one at the BBC or elsewhere would ever admit it, Hezbollah is actually much closer to upholding international law than western states like the United States, Germany and Britain, all of whom are helping to arm and sustain Israel’s "plausible" genocide.

I like shows about the supernatural and death rather than slice-of-life shows or drama shows.
I wonder what that says about me?

I want to do a thread on this.
I understand why the Mail are going after the BBC on this issue - their lack of due diligence was deeply problematic. But this goes far, far deeper than one documentary.
🧵

2) Hamas is far more than a terrorist organisation - having won an election in Gaza some 19 years ago, they subsequently murdered a bunch of their political opponents and since then have run Gaza as a dictatorship.
And they've controlled *everything* in the Gaza Strip.
3) People who have understood what a dictatorship is when it comes to Assad's Syria, or Kim's North Korea, seem to have no grasp of this very simple fact.
Every single level of society there has been under Hamas's control. It is impossible to operate there without their consent.
4) All the Ministries in Gaza (Health etc.) are run by Hamas, in the same way that every Government Ministry in Syria was controlled by Assad. Any information they have ever provided has been either directed or approved by Hamas.
Western media has struggled to comprehend this.
5) People talk about the Gaza Strip as small, and it is - here it is, transposed over London.
This has made it far easier for Hamas to maintain an iron grip over every single facet of society.
6) Take journalism.
There is no such thing as independent journalism in Gaza. Every journalist operating there is either under Hamas's direct control or knows that the slightest criticism of Hamas will lead to dire consequences for them & their families.
Like any dictatorship.
7) It is no secret that Hamas and Al Jazeera in Gaza are joined at the hip, for example.
But likewise, all influencers there - YouTube, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter - are either under Hamas's direct control, actively support them or know that criticising them is a death sentence.
8) The question is not "how did the BBC let this happen". It's "how do the BBC - and Sky, Channel 4 etc, not understand that every single stringer that they rely on in Gaza operates under the conditions of a dictatorship. That all the media they get is regime-controlled."
9) Likewise UNRWA. I'd respect UNRWA far more if they came out and admitted that yes, they're totally reliant on Hamas's consent to operate in Gaza, & that this has meant that Hamas has been able to suborn UNRWA in Gaza at all levels. Instead of pathetic denials of the obvious.
10) Going back to point 8, let's give a clear example of how this can work.
- Israel strikes a building. The footage from Gaza stringers shows - accurately - awful suffering, maiming and death. What it won't show - obviously - are the Hamas fighters operating in the vicinity.
11) The far-left talk about "Manufacturing Consent". They *never* understand that their responses are being manipulated - by Hamas, which has had years to perfect its techniques - in a similar way.
You think only Western Governments are clever or sophisticated enough to do that?
12) In fact, thinking that only Western governments are able to manipulate people into supporting a course of action is a rather stunning example of the bigotry of low expectations.
And, like I said at the start, Hamas *is* a Government - or has been, for almost 2 decades now.
13) I'll leave it there. But I'll leave it on the same note I started.
*Why do so many organisations fail to grasp that in Hamas they are dealing with a dictatorship similar to many others that exist in the world? Why do they seem to believe Hamas is different?*
Thread Ends.
