me: to really understand the tragedy Maximus bears throughout Gladiator, we have to take into account the fact that his entire worldview is based on the idea that Marcus Aurelius was a good man and that everything Maximus had done up until that point was in the service of an empire whose values he could trust and support. I would even argue that, excluding the loss of his wife and son, the greatest loss Maximus has to grapple with is the loss of his unswerving belief in the goodness of Rome. once he sees its corruption and becomes its victim, he has to reevaluate everything he's ever done and believed in, which affects not only his desire to free Rome from tyranny but also—
the burglar who broke into my house: his guilt about his role in the fate of Rome and his service to a man who was indirectly the cause of all this corruption?
me: exactly. now,
#i just kinda think that maximus is tragic in even more ways than we give him credit for#like obviously the loss of his wife and son is the primary tragedy and the main grief of his heart through the movie#but even more than the death of marcus aurelius is the fact that maximus has to reconcile the marcus he knew and loved and trusted#with the marcus who (1) allowed rome to focus on conquest rather than progress#(2) neglected his own son and indirectly caused rome to fall under the tyranny of a dictator#and (3) is both the opponent and perpetrator of many of the evils maximus has to bear#maximus has always imagined rome as a golden place filled with light#and he has to go through quite a painful enlightening#to see that rome is corrupt and brutal and dark much like he considered the barbarians#and what an incredible thing that maximus begins fighting alongside and allying with the very barbarians he used to conquer!#juba and haken would have been his enemies if they were not his fellow gladiators#and he becomes their brother in defiance of the roman emperor (an office he has always served)#the battle of carthage is INCREDIBLE because maximus is not only winning the victory humiliating commodus introducing himself as a champion#but ALSO showing that he has ZERO love for rome by becoming the leader of the “barbarian horde” and defeating the roman competitors#it's a statement just as his removal of his tattoo is a statement#i just. think this movie is amazing and i love it so much#and i love maximus so much more knowing he has to overcome so much more tragedy than is immediately apparent#he has to overcome his own devastation and disillusionment to find himself again#and it's in finding his quest for revenge and redemption that he accepts the past and creates a new future#literally MARRY ME SIR#gladiator#maximus#maixmus decimus meridius#gladiator 2000#russell crowe#text posts

I kind of want to create a character explicitly for romancing Minthara. No thoughts but what would be best for a Minthara romance.

Rat Grinder Redemption but they get assigned a "Bad Kids Trusted Adult" to make sure they're redeemed:
Ruben: Gorthalax (Starting off with my weakest. I'm pretty sure Gorthalax also has music ties from back in Freshman Year when he was introduced, so I think he can help Ruben take back his music. The Bad Kids also don't know many bard adults)
Mary Ann: Ragh (Ragh's boundless enthusiasm makes him very good at carrying conversations. He's not only a great Barbarian, but would take a genuine interest in Mary Ann's quorky pets and squishmallows. His enthusiasm has to become infectious eventually)
Oisin: Aelwyn (It was very hard to get Aelwyn to agree to make sure Oisin was redeemed, but after she was told she had to help teach him magic, she agreed. She trains him really harshly, lots of borderline unsafe sparring, but eventually they manage to get along by bitching about other people to each other)
Ivy: Sandra Lynn (Ivy is extremely vocal about how she is NOT pleased to have somebody supervising her, but Sandra Lynn takes no shit from her. Her tough love is just what Ivy needs, and slowly, to her own disgust, she starts to become attached to Sandra Lynn's no-nonsense attitude. Sandra Lynn is an incredible ranger and a great teacher, so Ivy has a hard time hating her for very long)
Kipperlily: Jawbone (Jawbone's already been working with Kipperlily for a while now, and he wants to see it through. Kipperlily is the most resistant of the Rat Grinders to being redeemed, but eventually, Jawbone's able to get back to where he was with her and help her improve)
All the kids spend time with Lydia, who knows what it's like to experience rage for a long period of time. She's very hard to dislike for very long, and they all warm up to her very quick. Mary Ann the fastest because Ragh talks about her all the time.
I'm not sure what adult would be assigned to Buddy. If anybody has any ideas, feel free to reblog with them!

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is just a dnd campaign we have a full table of 8 players, but not every player can make every session, because scheduling conflicts are just Like That. the pcs are
(and all information is pulled from the dnd5e wiki)
Henry of Skalitz: Oath of either Vengeance or redemption paladin depending on player choice, Artisan background
Hans Capon of Pirkstein: Fighter, Arcane Archer, Noble
Father Godwin: Cleric Hermit
Samuel: Haunted One Inquisitive Rogue
Dry Devil: Pyromancy Sorcerer, Criminal.
Kubyenka: Way of the Drunken Master Monk, venmoed the dm 20 bucks with "dibs on the drunk monk" a week before session zero. mercenary.
Adder: Path of the Beast Barbarian (specifically snake-vibes) Mercenary.
Janosh: School of Gastronomy Wizard (from Valda's Spire), Mercenary.
Janosh and Adder's players also sometimes play Istvan Toth and Erik, a Mastermind Rogue with the Knight background and an Oath of Vengeance to Oathbreaker paladin with the acolyte background.  NPCs
Brabant is the dmnpc charlitan swords bard. the table instaclocks that this guy cannot be trusted but he just keeps passing insight checks.
Katherine and Musa are both healers because Godwin both cant keep up and keeps picking combat spells. Jan Zizka is a Folk Hero Banneret Fighter.
gonna go through and actually make charictar sheets for these dumb kids eventually. Also, gonna properly adapt the main quests into a rundown like those XP to level Three lotr but DnD parodies.
Janosh and Adder’s players are dating IRL, every crude comment they say to each other irl just becomes cannon. Henry and Hans (but especially Hans) have the most overly detailed lore, and they are both really into the roleplay. Samuel’s Player just learned about their family trauma and is trying to work through some generational shit (it’s me hi im Samuel’s player) by making an obviously and not even sort of subtle Jewish allegory for this fantasy setting. The dm just sighs and rolls with it since she was planning on adding a religious schism to the world lore at some point so why not have smaller faiths as well. Father Godwin, Kubyenka, and Dry Devil all show up to the table completely hammered. Dry Devil will cast fireball on a room his party members are in. Dry Devil and Kubyenka are actually murderhobos, while Janosh and Adder’s players are just being very in character. After all, Janosh at least can have restraint enough to scheme as Istvan. (The two get teased for only playing couples in every game)
the DM is never going to run a party of this size again
please feel free to share your ideas if you have an idea how a build or a bit could go

Storm Hawks villains and their redemption ratings
I'm going to try to stay as close to canon as possible so bear with me XD
Master Cyclonis: 10/10 literally the best candidate for a redemption. She is shown to have a soft side again and again (Best Friends Forever and 5 Days) and with her fascination with crystals, you could just give her a lab where she can experiment to her hearts content without having to deal with empress duties. Moreover, she is a 14 year old empress. Literally 14! Kids do dumb stuff and honestly, the power would go to my head as well if they gave me an army at that age. (I mean it still would rn but that just proves my point)
Snipe: 5/10 I'm actually optimistic about him. Sure, he regularly abuses talons (throw them off his airship by the parachute) and he loves smashing stuff but he is show to enjoy 'inventing' just as much (the wacky devices he had terradon scientists do, his airship etc.) he doesn't have the patience to actually go through the education, but he can come up with some solid ideas for devices and gadgets which I think he would enjoy testing. Bit of a far stretch? Sure, but with some anger management, I think he could do great.
Ravess: 7/10 she has several interests she can choose to lean into instead of the army. First of all, she always looks happier playing the violin (going as far as having a talon who always plays her theme in her squadron and mimicking the motion with her bow) then actually fighting. Now don't get me wrong, we know for a fact she enjoys archery and the dog battles she gets up to in the daily, but I think the violin is her top favorite. Sure, she has a short temper and tendency to abuse her power (nearly throwing a talon off her airship in the stratosphere) but again she could change jobs with some anger training. Out of all 3 commanders, she is also the least loyal one. Going out of her way to question Cyclonis, talk behind her back and straight up covet the throne. And frankly, if you hate her boss that much you probably going to start hating your job too. Exhile probably sucked for her but if she just lost her position instead of being kicked out of Cyclonia all together, I think she could be much happier.
Raptors: 4/10 they suck but most of their big scale schemes are for Cyclonia. They treat the terradon scientists terribly, they aren't royal to each other and they are thieves but honestly, could have been worse. Without Cyclonia, they could have been much more enclosed in their own airspace. Repton rules with an iron fist, but from what we seen, that's their way as they are portrayed as the 'barbarians'. You can't really give them a traditional redemption because of that. They are going to continue being that way but if they were left alone, they might just keep it in their own terra.
Murk Raiders: 8/10 ragtag team of pirates with a surprising found family twist. Captain Scabulous seems to actually care about his man and despite their classic pirate plundering and endless search for riches, they could change their ways. Quite easily too, actually.
Now, the last one I'm going to talk about;
Dark Ace: -99999999999/10 he has absuleltly NO redeeming qualities. Yeah, there is no hope for this man. Killed his old squadron in cold blood and had no regrets or second thoughts (you could argue that one shot of him when he first changed side could be taken for regret, but I think it's a far stretch), abuses the talons the most (threw them off their rides in Gale Force Winds and A Little Trouble, instead of just letting them stay on the skimmer like c'mon), has no other hobbies outside of fighting and training, you could argue he is loyal to cyclonis but it actually never came across to me like that (There are two sides in Atmos and he already betrayed one, and Dark Ace in his core is a selfish, self-service person. I don't see him being loyal to anyone.), has one of the highest body counts in the show (defeated the most sky knights and in his own words, defeat means death). Dark Ace is an absulute lost cause with anger issues, a self serving agenda, an obsession with power and a personality that's prone to addiction. I mean that's why he is my favorite villain but still, the writers gave us nothing to work with XD

MXTX DnD
Scum Villain's Self Saving System
Shen Qingqiu:
Class: Fighter (Eldritch Knight)
Background: (the closest to Shen Jiu's past is "Stojanow Prisoner" the closest to Shen Yuan is something between Sage, Hermit and Faceless)
SJ and SY have very different stat spreads. SY has very high charisma, SJ is much less charismatic (though considering the loyalty he inspires in those who truly love him? Maybe his personality just counters it) SY, basically, is the result of a Dark Gift. Specifically Echoed Soul. When be gets "echoes" they come from SJ, who is technically deceased.
Luo Binghe
Class: Sorcerer (Divine Soul. No I do not take criticism) Luo Bingge multi classes with Hexblade Warlock.
LBH is also extremely charismatic, high CON and decent intelligence and wisdom.
LBH is hilariously OP and has a bunch of different Feats
Shang Qinghua:
Class: Bard (College of Lore)
Background: Double Agent (with the caveat that he is genuinely loyal to both groups)
Mobei-Jun
Class: Barbarian (Storm Herald. Tundra) though, because he's God's Favouritest Little Princess (even more than LBH is, who is canonly overpowered) he can also cast spells (mostly used for teleportation spells)
Yue Qingyuan
Class: Paladin (Redemption)
Liu Qingge
Class: Barbarian (Zealot)

Like Dungeons and Dragons? Looking for a fantasy adventure novel to sink your teeth into? Look no further!
Tumblr media
Tales from Aurea is a long-running web novel based on a homebrew Pathfinder campaign. It features a cast of queer characters, a premise steeped in eastern European mythology, and a world modeled on the fall of the Roman Empire.
Synopsis:
The Aurean Empire, once the dominating force at the heart of Calthia, is crumbling. Those who have been waiting for their chance at greatness will seize power at any cost. As political chaos erupts across the continent, four unlikely companions come together with a humble goal: helping a mysterious young girl named Kaja find her way home. But when it comes to light that Kaja’s lost people have the ability to turn the tide in the power struggle gripping Calthia, suddenly all eyes—friend and foe alike—are turned towards her.
The Party:
The Wizard: Sakrattars Mistwood, the fourth son in a prominent Imperial family (that he no longer speaks with), cringefail loser, in it for the fame and academic redemption, has a useless toad named Bartholomew as a familiar The Barbarian: Jo, former elite warrior turned lone wolf, de facto leader of the group, dotes on Kaja and is highly protective of her, can shapeshift into a giant sabercat The Sorcerer: Kaja, lost child, traumatized, has some connection to dragons, kinda ditzy, very gentle... until you threaten her friends, low-key the strongest one in the party The Fighter: Leif Hjalmarsson, mercenary who loves wine women and song, enamored with heroism and glory but kinda sucks at fighting (maybe due to all the wine?) The Ranger: Amale Inyoni, the party's dog (literally), strong silent type but his wagging tail gives away his game, hates violence loves sticks

Pairing: Halsin x f!reader
Angsty fluff
Word count: 1,3k
Content warnings: none as far as I'm aware, but feel free to correct me if I missed anything.
Summary: Halsin is going through it, and you're worried about him.
Tumblr media
Okay, so seeing the vid of all the companions as barbarians changed me. Not only do I now think Halsin would be perfect as barbarian in the 'nature's wrath' typa way, I also decided to make Gale a barbarian in my next playthrough. My boy had the most pathetic little shout, and i happen to think that's great.
Anyway, here's reader getting worried about sweet druid Halsin turning into raging barbarian Halsin. There will be a part two eventually. It will be smut. Sorry guys, but i can't keep the horny in check.
Also, this is rly more of a drabble than a fic, so I'm not naming it :)
Tumblr media
Ever since you'd been unable to save the grove, Halsin had been unable to change into an animal. This change hit the archdruid hard. Not only did this mean that Silvanus saw no chance of redemption in him, it meant the rest of his connection with nature was gone.
At least that's what he had convinced himself of. You were not so sure. You still saw the way nature seemed to respond to his presence, a spark of natural magic still present in the large elf. And yet, you also saw the rage, the new way of fighting he'd adapted to at least try to end the shadow curse alongside you.
The first time he fought by your side since the loss shook you to your core. It seemed for a second that the gentle giant had disappeared. The deep war cry that left him would have stunned you had you not also been fighting the claws of a shadow monster off.
It left an impression on you. You didn't necessarily dislike his new demeanor, but it did worry you. It simply didn't seem like him.
"Halsin!" You call out to the man as he stands next to lae'zel's tent, sharpening his newly acquired battle axe. "Come look!" You'd spotted the ducklings near the ruin in your camp before, but you'd never pointed them out to anyone before. Something about seeing Halsin with the axe made you want to take his attention off the blasted thing as soon as possible, though.
Your plan was working. He put down the axe, jogging to your side in a way that made your heart flutter. What can you say, the man was big in a way that was very attractive to you, and his normally gentle ways only endeared him to you more.
"And what is it I'm here to look at?" He asks, looking straight at you instead of looking around. The lack of his usual perception skills bothered you a bit, but at the same time, you didn't mind his attention being on you either.
"Look over there," you speak more quietly now that you're closer to the animals, not wanting to scare them off. You softly guide him closer to them when you notice he still hasn't spotted the ducklings. "Thought I saw them in the grass yesterday, but the mother finally had the courage to come out!"
The heat of his skin against yours is nice but you chastise yourself for focusing on that when your mission is distracting him, not yourself.
"Oh, younglings this late in the season? The mother has her work cut out for her if she is to keep all of them safe until adulthood." Halsin's voice seems to soften and you can almost physically feel the connection between him and nature. "Though maybe she should give up while she's ahead, protecting what is dear to you is sometimes...simply impossible."
The pain in his voice is clear to you, his eyes steeling. "There will always be new dangers to threaten it after all," Halsin speaks, a new edge entering his voice. "Always new ways to fail," anger. "Always injustice." Rage.
The increasing volume scares of the mother duck, sending the ducklings scattering across the lake. The seething man next to you seems to be too caught up in his anger to even realize. But you do, you realize maybe more than you should have.
A moments hesitation, maybe you shouldn't be getting this involved in Halsin's feelings and inner turmoil. After all you were part of the cause of it all, you'd failed to protect the Grove just as much as he had. What would you do if he turned this newfound rage to you?
You shake your head to clear your thoughts. This was no time to fear consequences to yourself. Halsin could use your help, so you have to try, even if that possibly leads to your favourite man in camp hating you.
"Halsin," you speak softly, almost like you're attempting to soothe him. "Look." The same words from before, spoken differently but accompanied with the same gentle guiding gesture.
It snaps him out of his inner spiral but the anger is clearly still there, barely even hidden beneath the surface. "I know nature has been rejecting you lately, that Silvanus has all but abandoned you." You subconsciously start stroking the man's back in an attempt to further soothe him as you try to make your point. "But this right now? It's you. You're scaring them off. I'm not sure if there's space in you for all this rage and the power of nature."
His eyes linger on your face for another while after the last words leave your lips before he diverts them back to the ducks. He doesn't speak, and for all your nerves, you're not as scared anymore. His posture became less tense and as he crouched down by the edge of the water, you see the old him again.
His hand reaches the water without disturbing it, and as the ducklings regroup near their mother, she swims up to him. You see the change in him the second she touches his hand. Like a world of weight fell off his shoulders, his burden still heavy, but bearable now.
A soft golden glow emanates from the water now, and before you can question anything, Halsin begins chuckling.
"By Silvanus, you were right! Nature never severed my ties, I was burning them with my own fury." he turns to you, still crouched by the ducks who've started nuzzling in his palm now. "You've returned an important piece of myself to me."
"I only pointed out some ducklings, Halsin. You did the rest." You send a wink his way before turning back to the rest of camp. "Oh! Does this mean I can give that sharpened axe to Karlach? She's been eyeing it," you ask, turning back to Halsin, barely noticing the blush creeping over his face. He merely nods in return, feeling his heart stir at the grin you give him.
You'd been right about the axe, Karlach's face when you handed it over to her could only be described with the same words one would use for an overjoyed child. She'd even vowed to you to keep the ribbon you'd put on the handle clean of blood so she could keep it on there.
Unbeknownst to you, as you were accepting the barbarian's expressions of gratitude, the druid that was admiring you form afar got cornered by the two other elves in camp.
"Say Halsin, if I didn't know any better, I'd almost say you're fawning over our dear little (y/n)." It was Astarion who spoke up first, but by her proximity, Halsin could tell Shadowheart had some words for him as well, most likely less sugar coated than Astarion's.
"She's not just our leader, Halsin," Shadowheart begins, "if you hurt her, we'll be forced to hurt you." The clear threat from the cleric was endearing to him. He liked knowing how much the others cared about you.
"Actually," Astarion continued. "I'm fairly certain if we really needed a druid on our travels, we wouldn't be too hard pressed to find one. Jaheira seems entertaining if nothing else." Astarion's thinly veiled threat was less endearing but the same thought process kept the smile on Halsin's face.
"Thank you both for stepping up like this. Though I assure you, I do not give my heart lightly, and I'm ready to offer her all of it." His eyes returned to you as he spoke, watching you fondly as Karlach lifted you into the air and swung you around.
"There is nothing in this world that could make me hurt her."

the Ice Planet Barbarian series has been the equivalent of saturday morning cartoons for adults, and they are exactly what they need to be: the sa-khui men are perfect in every way.
i wanted to list my favorite to least favorite, but i've genuinely enjoyed each book. i'll continue to update this list as i work my way through the series.
Barbarian's Taming (Hassen x Maddie)
*for me, this book had the best couple and smut
2. Barbarian's Redemption (Elly x Bek)
Elly is my favorite fmc, and i loved the whole concept of her and Bek starting over together and helping each other be better.
3. Barbarian Alien (Raahosh x Liz)
*i feel like these two deserved to drive each other insane
4. Barbarian Mine (Rukh x Harlow)
*i loved how protective and conflicted Rukh was
5. Barbarian's Tease (Taushen x Brooke)
*i liked how jealous and funny Taushen was
6. Barbarian's Lady (Harrec x Kate)
*this one is all the fun and silliness i love about the books. Harrec's whole plot to get Kate alone backfiring? and he's just so unserious, even when he's about to be crushed by rocks.
7. Ice Planet Barbarians (Vektal x Georgie)
*i love Sheorgie and Vektal so much
8. Barbarian's Mate (Haeden x Josie)
*i was mad at Josie for wanting to get her khui removed, but adored how in love with her Haeden was
9. Barbarian Lover (Aehako x Kira)

10. Barbarian's Heart (Pashov x Stacy)
*i liked how the plot was developed through their story, and how jealous Pashov would get
11. Barbarian's Touch (Rokan x Lila)
*Rokan was so sweet, and it was adorable how the whole tribe learned sign language and were excited to meet Lila
12. Barbarian's Prize (Salukh x Tiffany)
*i did not like how Tiffany wouldn't stand up for Salukh, but bc Salukh and all sa-khui men are perfect, this book won me over bc Salukh was so patient and amazing

Sky cotl x DnD AU
Elders and their classes
Resh would be a Cleric. His deity would be the megabird.
Lamed would be a warlock, having connections with the megabird as well.
Tsadi would be a barbarian and the protector of King Resh.
Sah and Mek would both be rogues.
Teth would be an artificer.
Ayin would be a druid.
Daleth would be a paladin.
Lore
Their kingdom is in the clouds and they are unaware of the earth below. They lived peacefully for thousands of years until their kingdom was discovered by the people of the earth. At first, the people of the earth wanted to trade with the people of the sky. The king allowed it, seeing it as an opportunity for new connections. More and more earth people were allowed to come into the kingdom and word of the sky kingdom’s great magic and power spread like wildfire on earth.
The greedy and the power hungry wanted the crystal that kept the kingdom alive. A powerful corrupt king called “The Dark Dragon” wanted their magic and their technology, so he attacked the sky kingdom with his dark soldiers. The war lasted for many years and the kingdom eventually fell after the shattering of the crystal. As a last resort, King Resh called upon the megabird, asking and begging for help from her before abandoning the kingdom with the 7 elders by his side. Since he didn’t hear anything from the megabird, he took what people were left of his fallen kingdom and fled to earth for refuge with them.
They became ill on earth and without their crystal, they had a harder time healing the sick. They moved to the mountains to try and be higher in the sky, and closer to the light. One night, a couple noticed something fall from the sky and land at the base of the mountain where the last of the Sky people dwelled. They went to go investigate and found a small child. Cold, shivering and without clothes. They quickly clothed the child, warmed them up and brought them to Daleth. In the morning, Daleth informed the other elders of the child and how much energy radiated from them. The king took a closer look of this child and realized his pleads to megabird were answered.
The child was the key to the kingdom’s redemption. They named the child Dusk since that was the time the child was "born."
~~~
I've had this sitting in my drafts for almost a year now. I saw someone mention a Sky x DnD crossover, and it reminded me that I had this draft. I kinda wanna world build on this au again
Okay!! Ramble about Ventress's Tales of the Underworld episodes as promised
Redemption arcs in television usually seem to go one of two ways: either the character sacrifices themself to earn redemption or their redemption takes up most of their arc. And both of those can be really great if they're well-written, but it's also so refreshing to see a character who's like... post-redemption? Like, Ventress has already gone through that arc. She's not struggling against her former teachings to help Lyco, she just helps him, no hesitation. It's not like she's done a complete 180 (her interactions with the bounty hunters show that). But she was such a fun character in TCW, and it's so satisfying to have her act in a way you can wholly root for while still not losing her personality.
(Speaking of Lyco! I love Lyco!! Every single interaction he had with Ventress was absolute gold)
I especially liked the way the last episode was handled, because it totally subverted every expectation I had for it. As soon as the raiders showed up, I was rolling my eyes at what looked to be another "gotta fight the desert-roaming 'barbarians'" plotline (see: the Tuskens in A New Hope and the bandits in Ahsoka), but no! They're treated empathetically! They have a right to the resources on their land and are protecting it! I was also ready for the Separatist commander to turn on Ventress and have her prove her "goodness" by slaying someone who would have been her ally when she was "bad", but no! She talked to him as one traumatized person to another and helped him find a way of life beyond violence! Her "you've been fighting for so long that you know no other way" and his "it's hard to let go" were delivered so powerfully.
And then! I was totally ready for the ending to be Ventress going off on her own, having successfully delivered Lyco to the path, but no! He came with her! They're friends!! I simultaneously want a whole spinoff show about them and never want to see them again so that I can imagine them living happily for the rest of their days. I haven't felt so satisfied at the end of a Star Wars arc in a really long time. I think overall, it embodied the whole "Star Wars is about hope" principle perfectly.
Hope I can phrase this in a way that makes sense but—
What well-known actual-play cast member is your favorite for each of the core D&D class? Not necessarily a specific characters, but I’m interested in which players you think brings the most to each class.
This is a very interesting question! It's a hard one to answer for some classes and very easy for others so bear with me; also there are a couple where I could not pick just one.
I'm sticking to the PHB 12 for, as you said, core classes:
Barbarian: While Travis did give us "I would like to rage," I think Ashley and Taliesin get to share this one for me. I think they both really explore what rage means to someone and while I love a good "I'm a tank because I can take the hits and that's what I do and what I'm good at" story, I also think Yasha's messy relationship with her feelings of guilt and grief, and Ashton's chronic pain, are both incredible ways to play with the barbarian archetype.
Bard: much easier. Sam Riegel and Krystina Arielle. I'm a sucker for someone who actually sings even as I don't think you have to (and have played bard without doing so). It's both clearly a class they each love dearly and it shows, and they're incredibly musically talented performers to boot.
Cleric: Lou Wilson. Especially since I didn't like Fantasy High season 1 Fabian until the end of the season Kingston blew me away. I would love to see him explore cleric again, though it's exciting to see him as a paladin on WBN.
Druid: Emily Axford as Moonshine. Emily as a rule understands D&D classes very well anyway, but I think the culture of the crick and the ways that Moonshine must grow as a character while being a druid take it to the next level. (Also I prefer a caster-heavy druid to a shapechanger-heavy one; that's just me).
Fighter: Back to NADDPod because literally who could I say other than Jake Hurwitz, the man who only plays fighters. People who are new to D&D when they start actual play can be hit or miss imo; some pick it up and some lean harder on being showy to make up for it and it doesn't play well for me personally, but Jake is the greatest hit.
Monk: Marisha Ray; Beau is just generally a great character, and I think Marisha's own experience with martial arts informs the way she plays her; monks can be kind of repetitive in combat even with strong players and she manages to avoid this through her description.
Paladin: This is actually super hard because people don't play straight paladin a lot. This is incorrect of them, but it is an intense class. I think Luis Carazo and Zac Oyama are like...the duality of paladin (and indeed, redemption paladin). The tragedy and the comedy.
Ranger: Laura Bailey, natch; it's funny because Vex is in many ways not the archetypal ranger due to having high charisma, but she is simply my favorite and that's that on that. Sorry the mechanics were so bad; I would love to see more rangers in D&D even though Vex will be hard to dethrone. I promise Tasha's fixed them!
Rogue: I think I'm actually going Murph on this one. I like when rogues are more of the detective/spy type than the assassin/criminal type [obligatory "of course that's what you'd say you stupid paladin stan"] and inquisitive and arcane trickster are probably my two top rogue classes so Riz it is.
Sorcerer: I do consider PF1e cheating here because it's technically a different system that also imo addresses a lot of the weaknesses of sorcerer/makes it way better, but Bryn Monroe of RQG did play a great sorcerer. In D&D? Giving Emily Axford a second spot here for Saccharina. I'm going to talk about this for warlock, but I think sorcerer is a class you don't have to justify but if you don't it's a little unsatisfying. Sorcerer really shines in the Crown of Candy setting, and metamagic often doesn't live up to its reputation but Emily makes it work for her.
Warlock: Travis Willingham. I think there are classes that are kind of self-explanatory, for lack of a better term; you can play a fighter or rogue or even a bard or druid without going super deep into why the character is this class and still be an incredible character (though a good backstory never hurts). But there are others where you really need to be engaging with the class at all times to make it work, and warlock is one of them, and Fjord explores the warlock pact and what it means like few others.
Wizard: Aabria Iyengar. NO ONE gets wizard hubris as a player like Aabria. Knowledge is power and boy do wizards love knowledge. I especially like that most people in 5e play wizards as genuine adventurers because it feels very easy to play them as old guy in robes swept up in events beyond them; Aabria plays wizards who are combat ready with the humanity and backstory to make the difficult decisions sympathetic and meaningful, and I think that's how you have to play it.
Note: I want to specifically call out Liam O'Brien and Siobhan Thompson as "people I trust in basically any class or system and just didn't happen to hit a favorite here due to sky-high competition/personal preferences". They are both very close seconds for wizard.
