Perhaps the worst game design choice in Skyrim is when you are told to go kill nameless bandits who you can't talk to and just exist as random enemies, and then when you're fighting one they yell "I yield" and you're okay, that's fair, I'm just here to get some random sword I don't actually want to kill you and after all, the game tips say that if they yell "I yield" you can sheathe your sword and they'll stop fighting

Then you find out that's COMPLETELY FALSE, the game does NOT allow you to do that, the nameless bandits like all enemies in the game are programmed to fight to the death, and that's what you do, you fight them to death, because they have no names no lives or anything, they are there to keep attacking you and fight to the death for a chest with 124 gold and boots with a bonus to enchantment.

Or what's worse, the game makes them yell "PLEASE NO MORE" or "I YIELD" JUST as you deliver the killing blow. It would be an interesting comment on violence in videogames if it wasn't just a fakeout because the nameless bandits aren't actually coded to do anything but to fight you to death.

Okay, that's a bunch of poor game design choices, not just one.

Last night I was suddenly obsessed with bdubs and wanted to creature-ify him(more than I already do)

I don't know if anyone else has thought of squirrel bdubs but if they have then credit to them I suppose

I wrote down why a squirrel was perfect for bubbles but the hand writing was awful so I translated it word for word

The little doodles were cute though so I kept them..

So I got @enbyhoneyfluff 's old School AU on the brain again. Plus general Human AU shenanigans

Drew more of the Human Bandit, and finally drew the adorable Human Louis design!! I love them both so so much. Legit the most perfect human designs for em, I consider them canon aa I also did human versions of my elsens Monty and Finch. Monty being a teacher who disappeared, and Finch being a new student. I tweaked the design a bit to add a personal touch, but I also doodled some fanart of the School AU's Human Seneca. I wanted to somehow include the original Seneca's unique head, and I settled on a deformed lazy eye and facial scarring.

very late to the trend, but here's my take on the heeler family as humans !!

i don't want to call this negativity, although i'm sure it can be read that way. i'm just grappling with the things and what the game is trying to say and idk if it's frustrations or what.

the other thing i really should be going back to is just how often takumi and other characters in the true end bring up that they are not the heroes in this story.

they aren't. they KNOW they aren't.

but the true end maintains that. and has them hold to that. the true end is NOT the end where they decide hm, maybe xenocide is bad idea and killing all of the native people of this planet to save humanity isn't something we should do.

the true end is the one where they still side with humanity to kill all of the futurans and only change from that once literally all of humanity is dead. and they remark on how that's wrong. and they feel bad about it. and they doubt their decision. but that's still their decision.

and then they get so mad at v'ehxness for sending the missile of undying flames at the artificial satellite and killing all of humanity.

i sat there just, you guys were going to do the same thing to the futurans. you are literally still on a path to do this to the futurans. do you get that? you get that, right?

and even v'ehxness herself brings this up! you were going to do this to me and my people. i just did it to you and yours faster.

and the thing is that in the rebellion route, when they decide maybe let's not commit xenocide, humanity decides to crash the artificial satellite into futurum and cause massive damage and make the war worse on the ground because hey, all of the commanders are dead, which means we can hit and kill everyone else without the special defense unit.

the surviving fighters can join with the leader of the rebellion - the daughter of the commander they arguably treated the worst (eva, you deserved better, you did not deserve all of the brainwashing, and you can argue that's mostly sirei and the will of humanity, but none of the fighters stopped him (and he brainwashed the ones who tried to befriend her before he brainwashed her because that was the will of humanity))—

if the leader of the rebellion stays alive, the war finally reaches peace after fifteen years, but futurum is unsteady because the fighters killed their leader (v'ehxness is a tyrant trying to become god, but killing her still leaves a power vacuum right when humanity crash lands into the planet) and this is only possible if takumi allows nozomi to die, so it still comes off as a bad ending. if nozomi lives, then she teaches a school for futurans while their civil war and the war with humanity continues.

whether nozomi's rejection symptoms kill her or her cryptoglobin just fades away depends on which ending you're on, by which i mean, the only reason nozomi even survives when everyone else dies is because for some reason on that timeline, her cryptoglobin fades away and deprives her of the ability to fight instead of her rejection symptoms come back and she dies.

and nozomi wants to live or die with everyone else if they live or die and that choice does not matter, she still lives when everyone else - including takumi - dies.

and even in that final battle, even if you destroy all of the missiles, it literally will not let you send any of the characters to attack the defense system until everyone else is dead and only takumi is left. i know this because i had hiruko take out the missiles (takumi took out maybe one?) and only a handful of them were dead and it would not let me. everyone did not have to die! but the game mechanics forced me, the player, to have to wait until everyone else was dead!

and i don't know what to do with all of this.

i don't know what to do with seeing the stories in these truth routes and seeing the possible ways thay maybe, like nozomi says, there actually are ways to a peaceful end, except that the game wants them to believe that the futurans hate humanity so much that they'll wipe them out just for starting the war, so no matter what you do, one side will get wiped out, but also the player knows from the rebellion route that this isn't the case. that there can be a peaceful end!

you just aren't allowed to achieve it in a way that takumi likes because nozomi's dead.

because her rejection symptoms acted up.

except in the true end she just gets better on her own.

(of course, v'ehxness also blew herself up in the rebellion end, which is why nozomi could be saved by sacrificing kamyuhn, but that's not the point.)

and all of this sounds like complaining like i don't like the game, and that's not it. i'm just. trying to grapple. with all the things. that is supposed to be the true end.

because i'm frustrated.

because i don't like it.

because yeah, it's a tragedy, but it doesn't have to be.

because even that last scene with nozomi and the futurans deciding to accept her instead of fight her proves the point which is the theme of nobody really wants to fight, they just want peace, but like.
