Hi Charmful, I really love your amazing neighborhood! It is fantastic to see the passion you've put in this project for about 17 (!) years! What advice would you give to someone who wishes to start their own custom hood with many subhoods and stories, like yours? What are in your opinions some do's and don'ts (be it about technicalities, gameplay or even mindset)? Thanks in advance and I apologise if this question has already been asked :)
No! You are completely fine, I appreciate the question. Very few ever ask me questions on my tumblr anyhow. I just go around giving this advice every so often when I see it asked about how to start custom hoods on the big TS2 Facebook Group or the Sims 2 Subreddit, haha! So, going into your own hood/subhoods project sounds really daunting and it's not a feat for the impatient or those that have a penchant for serial restarting playstyle. 1. Grow it organically. If that seems too loose of a perimeter for someone, they can always use a structured BACC as a springboard. One of my favorite TS2 Twitch streamers, ChocolatCitySim has built her amazing custom hood and subhoods up from a BACC. Here is an album of my hoods and subhoods showing them in 2015 and 2022 and the progress it made and even at present they look different than they did in 2022. 2. Create a solid set of sims or families you want to be the foundation population. They could be founders, you could have a headcanon of why they moved to town, or how they fit into the lore of your custom hood. These sims you will play for a long time, hopefully enough to see their children's children and such. My best advice is aim for 5-8 families and then sprinkle in some YAs (if you add a Uni right off) and single adults that are ready to mingle. Add new families and sims as you progress and as needed to grow your population. 3. Don't be afraid! Why is this important? Because Kashmire wouldn't be what it is today if I had panicked at every glitch, accident, or unintended situation that cropped up. It has actually enhanced my hood lore as the years have gone by. It makes for a unique story twist or quirk when something happens and you have to interpret or explain it away into a narrative or hood canon. Don't be afraid to start playing before the hood is 'done'; spoiler alert: a custom hood is never 'done' it might have a good few years stretch of you not updating anything in it until you need it but if you are like me and get the urge to go ham on hood deco after 14 or so years, it's gonna always be in flux! Obsessing with getting a custom hood 'done' before playing it is the quickest way to burn out and abandon your goal. Also, don't be afraid to completely chuck stuff you have downloaded or built and are not feeling anymore. Or re-arranging entire sections of your hood. In real life, civilizations grow and change and seeing that progress in your own neighborhood can be rewarding! You can even send sims you aren't feeling anymore off to another place, or make them townies, or kill them off. I've never played in strict rotation, I've lost sims to glitches, and I've bulldozed more than half my original builds to try and build or download something better.
4. Back to the building of it, I wish I had done it sooner but it's helpful to kind of know what zones of your hood are. Commercial vs Residential, vs greenspace use. Use hood deco to build up parts to make it look busier if you are going for a more urban hood or subhood but don't have a lot of playable lots yet. If you aren't a builder, download lots, there are so many good ones out there! On the same note of building, try to have your basic necessity community lots in every subhood so the sim doesn't have to travel through 2 screens to get a cup of coffee or go to a gym, but you can vary those community lots unless you want to simulate a 'chain' (a chain of restaurants, gyms, coffee shops). Then, try to also have some unique places in each subhood. Places your sims might want to go to impress a date, or dancing with friends, fill a want that comes up less often. I could wax poetic about all the different lots around Kashmire but to not exceed a response character count, I shant. 5. A subtle thing you can do is develop an identity for your different areas/subhoods. You can do this with themes, flora, deco, and even the sims that live there. 6. Let the stories come naturally and retcon what doesn't work anymore. After playing for so many years in Kashmire, stories develop in a variety of ways--most have developed through the gameplay aspect itself mixed with being inspired by lots or poseboxes or just fun scenarios I want to try to play and execute. If you don't have a stellar memory like I do (which is how I keep everything in order) document your play through notes and pics! Even just putting up little blurbs on your tumblr with a few pics can help you start a narrative and then use it to go back to reference. If not here, any blogging site, a forum, or any other place you can post will do! 7. Be choosy with your cc. Things will come along you will WANT but do you really NEED it? This is a good rule of thumb for any Sims 2 player honestly. 8. MAKE BACK UPS. CONSISTENTLY MAKE BACK UPS OF YOUR HOOD AND GAME. RELIGIOUSLY STORE THEM SOMEPLACE SAFE because your heart will break if one day your SSD melts and all your backups were on it and you don't have an amazing computer wizard husband to save your custom hood's ass. People always ask me 'How have you played the same Sims 2 neighborhood for 17 years?!' and my answer: BACK UPS. That's all I can think of off the top of my mind. Thanks for the question and good luck on your Sims 2 custom hood journey!

Argh! Even though I'm possibly about to get rid of original fridge-devourer Melvin, it looks like Crispin has decided to take his place. Annabelle doesn't appear to care, but I do! You're losing points in the heir competition, Crispin!
Tumblr media
Anyway, that was the end of the round, so have a family photo as we haven't done one in a very long time. We'll just ignore the fact that Crispin's hand is clipping through the floor.
At this point, Melvin is 47, Annabelle is 46, and the twins are 17. At the start of next round it will be time to hand over the torch to Generation 2 as the twins will either age up or go to university. (I'm thinking the former as uni is a bit of a slog to get through in a legacy-style challenge, especially when you can't control someone)! I still haven't decided on an heir though. If you have a preference, feel free to leave a comment; otherwise I'll probably roll a die!
Okay, back to my Wildflats Peninsula BACC - it's been a long time!

📩 Simblr question of the day: You can answer one or both parts of this question!
1️⃣ Part one: If you make Story posts, what do you do for scenes? Do you build them yourself, do you download lots from the gallery or do you download them from someone online?
2️⃣ Part two: If you make Gameplay/Legacy posts, what do you do for a house? Do you build it yourself, download a home from the gallery or do you download them from someone online? Additionally, do you build onto that home or demolish it and rebuild the house when needed? (E.G When another child enters the picture or someone moves in)
❎ If you do none of those for either half, what do you do? Do you use someone else's save file? (WIndbrook by Folking, Willow Creek + Magnolia Promenade by Theneighborhoodsave, Silent Pines by Silentpinessave... etc)
( freely share this SQOTD around, anon or not, and use the hashtag " SQOTD " ~ 💛 )
hiya @melsie-sims, thank you for the SQotD!
(note: all my replies will be for Sims 2) I have a kind of answer for PT1: i mostly do all the building and decorating myself, its quite rare for me to download/install a new lot for something i need in my Waverly rotation unless for some reason i cannot make it happen on my own.
N/A for PT2 (for now!)
my schtick is rotational gameplay for Waverly, an nhood i built myself nearly 5!!! years ago???!! its basically become a lil BACC/uberhood since i play w/ almost all the subhoods i created for Waverly. i have a few challenges incorporated into the rotation such as: uni, rags to riches and the asylum challenge. (i included Uni bc its a bit of a challenge for me personally lol) i have plans to add a few others as more families have been introduced to the rotation for year 2!

Hiatus update.
Tumblr media
I’ve been on a very long hiatus.
At the start I got really busy with uni work and finishing off the academic year, but in the process I sort of fell out of love with the sims 4.
I’ve felt this before, the feeling of unsatisfying gameplay, so I started implementing gameplay mods and it really lengthened the longevity of it, but unfortunately even the in-depth and game changing configurations couldn’t help the overarching feeling of just, boredom.
After feeling frustrated, I decided to pick up the sims 2 again. I hadn’t played it in years and I didn’t know what to expect. I started a BACC and instantly, I was hooked. My passion for life simulation and story telling came back, and so far, after 3 generations, Im still experiencing interesting gameplay, twists in the storyline and overall drama. Edenshore has 3 generations, 14 active households and 42 sims currently living in it. I might make some posts about it, but honestly it would take a lot of time to get through everything that has happened up to the current year (around year 116 so far).
Anyway, I decided to make this post just to kind of explain my absence. Not that I have that many followers here, just wanted to throw this out in case there is someone who resonates with this and feels the same way. At this point, I don’t feel any want to come back to the sims 4. Not sure if this will change, I’ll probably open it up every now and then, but as of right now I have no interest in playing it at all. I’ve just come to realize It’s not my kind of game ( Took me like 9 years lmao ).
I don’t blame anyone for unfollowing me, I mean I did make this blog with the intention of posting sims 4 content. I hope one day I’ll reignite my passion for the sims 4, but at this point it’s quite unlikely.
Not to make a long post even longer, but as of now the only content I’ll post will probably have to do with the sims 2.

It wasn’t an eventful year, but it was far from boring, as far as Jo’s love life went.
Tumblr media
The arrangement they had with Drake and Scheherazade suited them just fine - there was no jealousy or possessiveness, everyone was there to have a good time.
There was no substance to the relationship either, but given the fact that Jo would be graduating soon, it was fine. They were unlikely to keep in touch, no matter what they promised.
Tumblr media
Soon enough they would have to give some serious thought to their future...
Tumblr media
...but that could wait a little longer.
Tumblr media
Celeste: “Woo!”
Tumblr media
Drake: “Damnit, I can’t believe we lost! We were so much better than her!”
Jo: “Care for a consolation prize?”
Drake: “Mmm. Where’s Zade? Suddenly, I don’t feel like clubbing anymore.”

As they became more secure in their studies they began venturing away from the dorms and onto campus more frequently.  This led Juniper, a nice rich boy, to want to join the frat on campus- which he was successful in doing.  The second he had a chance he absolutely had to call his mom to tell her the great news.
Because I play freshman+sophomore years together & junior+senior years together to help prevent big age gaps between arrangements, the boys are within the first hour of their Junior year.  Juniper’s aspirations were reset and essentially, flipped, where his secondary popularity aspiration took center stage now.

Дома. Внезапно! За Рэем приехал лимузин.
Tumblr media
Теряюсь в догадках - а кто у Рэя третий друг из тайного общества? Откуда взялся то? Он вроде только с Марвином дружит, да с Рут...
Tumblr media
На глазах у Вольфа в лимузин запихали. Вольф как раз Лие букет нес. И не испугался же XD
Tumblr media
А вот этого парня Рэй знает. Но когда они подружиться успели - для меня загадка XD
Tumblr media
Задерживаться не стал. Переоделся в новый костюм и сразу уехал.
Tumblr media
“- Я пригласил вас, господа, чтобы сообщить пренеприятнейшее известие: к нам едет ревизор! Инкогнито из Петербурга!
- Как ревизор? Зачем ревизор?
- Вот не было заботы - так подай!” (с)
Не смогла удержаться - чего он такой важный? XDDD

И Морриса еще потом отчитал xD

Have been batteling with the university for Newlora and Benbirth. Fr this morning I closed and opened the game SO many times because I gept on making stypid mistakes with lot adjustering .___.
This building is going to be the main one with most of the classrooms. It is actually made of like tree 40x30 lots. I know I'm going to build like cafetaria in the one with the clocktower and maybe some kind of drama/music stage thing in the one on the right (that I will proparly change a little in the future too xD)
However, I think there will be some kind of seperate science building with maybe even nuclear power plant attaced 👀... but we will see

My BACP (Build A Community Project) Guidelines for TS2
A couple weeks ago, I lost my Pleasantview Uberhood to corruption. I wanted to start a custom hood, and considered doing a BACC, but ultimately decided against it because my gameplay objective is to have fun, but the BACC financial aspects and challenge rules seemed a bit overwhelming; I felt like it would lead to more stressful gameplay for me personally. So I decided to come up with my own minimal guidelines to provide some level of organization and rules, without getting in the way of the creative and sandbox elements of the gameplay I love so much. So here's the Build a Community Project, guidelines that are free for anyone to use or borrow from. I may add on to this or change some things as I play my first BACP hood, Las Flores!
iSimchi's Build A Community Project (BACP) Guidelines:
How to determine the founding families:
1. Use a random number generator from 2 to 6. The number you roll is the number of households. 2. For each household, use a random number generator from 1 to 4. This is the number of adults in the household. Each adult must be either spouses or siblings. 3. (Optional) For each household, use a random number generator from 0-2. This is the number of pets for each household. Flip a coin for animal type: heads = cats, tails = dogs.
CAS Guidelines:
• No rules in terms of appearance or name, randomize or choose. • Use a random number generator, 1 to 6, to determine aspiration: 1- Family, 2- Fortune, 3- Knowledge, 4- Popularity, 5- Romance, 6- Pleasure. • Use a random number generator, 1 to 10, to determine zodiac: 1- Scorpio, 2- Sagittarius, 3- Capricorn, 4- Aquarius, 5- Aires, 6- Taurus, 7- Gemini, 8- Cancer, 9- Leo, 10- Libra. * You can adjust the personality points however you want afterward, as long as it does not change their zodiac sign. • No rules for Chemistry, randomize or choose turn offs/ons.
Move in Guidelines:
• For each household's family funds, use a random number generator from 13-20. The number you get is how many thousands they can start with. You can lower the bottom number if you want a bigger challenge. • (Optional - mod needed) When building a home, you can use the loan jar, 5k max, and must pay it off before borrowing more. • For emergency devices, your family.. needs 25k+ in net worth to use fire alarms.  needs 35k+ in net worth for burglar alarm.  needs 55k+ in net worth for car alarm or security cam. • When moving back to the hood after college, use a random number generator, 1-5, to determine how many thousands your grad is starting with. They must move to an apartment at first, and can have multiple roommates. • When moving out from a household, those moving out get a fair cut of the original household's funds instead of the standard 20k. (using the familyfunds cheat, evenly divide the total funds between those leaving and those staying). At least 1 of the sims moving out needs to have earned a total of least 1k with that household before they leave.
Hood Guidelines:
• Your first community lots must be a grocery/shopping center, and a nightlife destination (restaurant, club, bowling, combo, etc). • For every household beyond the first two, you earn a new community lot (so if you start with more than 2 households, you can start with more than 2 community lots). • Community lots can be purchased if it is not a public work (library, school, town hall, etc), but do not need to be owned or run by a playable sim. • You can chose to build multiple of the same kind of community lot (resturants, clubs, bars, malls, etc) as long as their decor themes differ. • Add a University when your first child ages up to teen, or a teen is adopted. You can use a premade Uni or make your own (I hate making my own so this is biased for me lol) • Add a custom downtown when the main hood population reaches 30, and add 3 nightlife destinations. If you add families there, you get 2 community lots for each household (since downtown is more commercial than residential). • Add a custom shopping district whenever you want, but these shops must be owned by sims, so you need at least one sim with the resources to start a community or home business to relocate there. • Add a vacation destination when you reach 50 residents across main and sub hoods.
Misc/ Optional Guidelines:
• Sim's life choices are determined by their wants, any actions you choose for them must either align with their aspiration/LTW or their current wants and fears. Other than that, I personally only direct them to fulfill their needs if they are very low, but let them pass out or pee themselves if they aren't caring for themselves. If you put their needs before their wants, that's fine too. • There can only be one level 10 career holder in the entirety of the main / sub hoods per career. If two sims roll want for the top spot, coin flip or make them play rock paper scissors or another win/lose game… or fight for it.  • Insane wants can be adjusted with LTW adjuster, must match asp or true hobby. (I hate the 20 kids/6 grandchildren LTW and feel it clogs the genetic pool, so I change those, my bias again) • Disable Rod Humble by using mods or give away/never open the computer he delivers. Sims only get a computer when they can afford it. • Multi-generational households: I don't stick to the traditional American nuclear family customs, family members can live with each other indefinitely while also starting families of their own, space permitting. • No taxes or price increases, you only need to pay Maxis standard billing/pricing, unless you use the loan jar mod. If you use this mod, you can use the Maxis level billing (level 0). • Use whatever lifespan mods if you want shorter or longer lives. • Add custom townies to the townie pool if you wish, limited to 8 for each age group (if using townie free hoods you'll need to do this anyway). If you play with supernaturals, you can add one of each type to the townie pool. • Aside from emergency devices, there are no limits on what furniture your families can purchase. • If not fond of building, downloaded lots work all the same!

Hi CreeSims. Can you explain me what the gameplay is in Paradise Falls? I'm very curious!
Sure, and I'm happy to answer any questions if there's something I don't cover here
Tumblr media
Vault 88 is a 3-story, 18tile by 18tile building on a 2x2 lot. I had to start building on a 3x3 lot then use lot adjuster to shrink it, that little bit of extra space really does make a difference. It let me build rooms that feel like tight quarters without having routing issues
Tumblr media
First floor is workrooms. They are, starting on the lower left: Clinic with Biotech station and a few Sun & Moon herb plants. Gym. Food Production with compost bin and Midge's 3t2 indoor garden plots. Ichthyology lab (big fish tank). Geology lab with Sun & Mon Refine & Shine equipment, an invisible mining rook on top of the hole in the ground, and @nixedsims blacksmith station. The middle room is Vault Maintenance with woodcarving, robot, and toymaking benches. Front right room is the quartermaster department with gnome making, flower arranging, sewing, and candle making craft stations.
Tumblr media
Second floor is recreation. Music room with a wine bar. Cafe with MajorJeff's Chocolate Factory and a Uni stove. There's an invisible pond on the floor by the balcony so Sims can fish into the big tank below. Games room. Hot tub room. Media room. The middle is the Overseer's Office with a computer Sims can use
Tumblr media
Top floor is living quarters. Each apartment is 2 rooms with a bed and dresser. Communal bathroom in the middle with 3 stalls, 3 Uni showers, and a potty trainer for toddlers. The room at the end has stuff for toddlers to play with and build skills. The hall on the right has a washer and dryer for Sims who want to build cleaning skill, the other hall has a 1-tile changing table and a Supa Fridge so Sims can get baby bottles
Each apartment starts with 2 adult Sims, plus there will be landlord, postal worker, and cafeteria worker NPCs visiting the Vault which makes the place feel nice and full. After Sims rent their apartments I use the Insiminator to take away all their money
Sims can't work careers because they can't leave the vault but they are assigned duties based on their LTW, One True Hobby, and 3t2 traits. All of those are randomized using the AnyLTWforallaspirationsAL mod (I think it's by Pescado), @midgethetree's Randomizer, and the Traits randomizer. Some vault jobs are obvious, my Sim with the Cuisine hobby and Professional Party Guest LTW makes money by working in the cafe or playing guitar for tips. One of my Science enthusiasts is the medic who harvests herbs and makes medicine at the Biotech station. But for some of the jobs you'll need to get creative with the crafting stations, which is why I recommend having a nice variety. One of my science Sims is in charge of making sure the Vault infrastructure is in good repair, she makes robots to simulate doing this. One Sim uses novel writing to simulate doing paperwork, another is using it to write a cookbook
I sell everything they make right from the inventory because they can't own businesses yet and I want them to have enough cash that it influence's Cyjon's Bigger Bills mod. I keep track of how much they spend on rent and bills so that later, when they start leaving the vault, I can incorporate a little bit of BACC play and have that money go into buying things for the hood. They can use their money to buy kids stuff when they have a family, or deco stuff from the Buy Catalog to spruce up their rooms, or just save it for when someone in that apartment chooses to leave the vault
My Sims usually work on their Vault jobs until about 5 or 6 pm, then they socialize and canoodle with their roommate or other Vault dwellers. I'm about to start round 2 and will be focusing on moving Sims around if they'd be a better fit with a different roommate and getting them to start having babies (limit of 2 kids per apartment). The plan right now is to keep everyone in the vault until the first kid is University age. By then the Vault will be feeling crowded and the kids will be wanting to know what else is out there
