“My skin feels so dry. The winter weather is awful for me.”

“Worry not. Given what you told me, I'm sure this moisturizer will fix everything.”

“My family gave me too much chocolate and now my acne is flaring up. Do you have anything for that?”

“Of course! Apply this cream before taking a shower, once a day. You'll be able to enjoy your sweets with no guilt.”

“... You? Really?”

“You want something or not?”

“... The humidity is fucking up my hair.”

“I'm no poor man’s hair stylist. But I think I got something.”

“Do you have anti-agi-”

“No.”

“Oh my GOSH your skin is SPARKLING. What is your secret?”

“I got a new product! You know that potion girlie in journalism? Her stuff is the real deal.”

“Ooooooh do you think she can whip up a blush? My last one was a real disappointment.”

“You know, I could use some powder myself.”

“Maybe if I get some lipstick…”

“What? No. I don't deal with those kinds of make-up or similar cosmetics.” Medeia flatly replied. “My focus is on medicinal benefits first and foremost. It'd take me a couple months to learn how to make any of the things you're requesting.”

“Come ooooon!”

“I'm sure you can try!”

“There is this cute cat in Psych 101 I GOTTA fish!”

“I need some hair dye too…”

“I'm telling you, I can't. Chemistry and potion making are dangerous. If I use the wrong substance, I could make something that would severely hurt- are you listening?” Medeia rambled, before realizing her convictions were severely outmatched here.

The customers steadily approached. 

“C-come on everyone. Hold on. Hold on!”

“HOLD OOOOOOOOOOOOON!”

Lucas leisurely walked towards Medeia’s side of the campus’ dorms, carrying some notes he borrowed and a bottle to be refilled, letting his tail freely hang in the wind as he moved forwards.

Hehehe, he had a tail~ Swish, swoosh, swish, swoosh~

Campus was usually pretty chill and somewhat empty at this time of the day, which is why he was surprised to see… a noisy crowd by the door of his friend's building? What was-

“Lucas! Get over here!”

“Whoa!”

Pulled to a conveniently placed bush, the boy’s confusion and panic settled to just confusion upon seeing who grabbed him and did a shhhhhh signal asking him to be quiet. “Medeia? What are you doing here?” He asked softly.

“I have been hounded by my customers this entire day, Lu. Entire. Day.” She replied, stealing a look towards the direction of her dorm, groaning as her fanclub remained there. “Some of them started asking for make-up, for some reason, and suddenly demand increased exponentially for something I don't know how to do.”

“You have no makeshift recipes that could work?”

“Just the usual moisturizer and the like. I mess with dangerous stuff, and I'd rather not mix up an improvised something that melts people's face off.” She explained. “And now I can't go hoooooome! They have been blocking the entrance forever! I can't go home, Luuuuu!” Sighing, she stop shaking him and conceded. “Then again, not like it is that good of a home, what with my current roommate.”

“Is she that bad?”

“She's an astrologist, Lu.”

“Oh no. That's awful.”

“I knooooow!” Groaning in annoyance, she said. “I'm probably too close to them. The customers, that is. My uncle was always well isolated in the suburbs, so people had to go out of their way to find him. Since I'm super convenient in every way, surely I can do anything, they think.”

That was interesting. She rarely mentioned her family. “Is your uncle’s house… not home?”

“Not really. I haven't went back since I began college.”

“Huge fight?”

“No. More of an ideological disagreement. You'd probably find me silly in an insane way for it.” She said, elaborating no further. “The dorms here are free of charge and I got my bartender job early on to cover my expenses, so I just never had to go back.”

Huh. Made sense. “I mean, that's fair. My parents are ok with me being-” Lucas gestured to his tail. “But I still have relatives who refuse to talk to me.”

“Sorry about that, Lu.”

“It's fine. I have enough people on my side.”

Medeia nodded, then returned to sighing and resting her back against the leaves. Come to think of it, he doesn't think she ever mentioned leaving for vacation or anything. If her only house was here, then why would she?

“... we could live together.” He proposed.

“What?”

“We could live together. You have your job, I got that big name internship recently, we should have enough money to split an ok apartment between us.” He explained, his friend's eyes lighting up with each word. “We are in the down season for house hunting, so we could probably find someplace affordable decently close.” 

“It would give me distance from them and a roommate I like, aaaaaaaah, Lu, I'd love that!” Immediately, she hugged him, both of them laughing out of pure cheer. “It's gonna be great. We gotta find somewhere with a good enough kitchen for my stuff. Oh, are you ok with me doing my potions and what not?”

“As long as you are ok with me during shedding season.”

“It will be completely worth it.” She declared, and the two immediately began rambling off plans.

Yeah. This was gonna be beyond great.

“Hey, your room is on the second floor at the back, right?”

“Yeah- oh! Think you can give me a boost?”

“Maybe?”

“Only one way to know. Let's go!”

Hey! I don't follow you but I saw your tags on the allergy of prompt and was wondering if your OC was also allergic to potatoes and eggplants since they have an allergy to tomatoes! They're all in the same family of nightshade plants so I was just curious :3

Oooooo fascinating, thanks for the trivia. And no, he isn't! Lucas is allergic to cocoa and tomatoes because he's a werewolf, but that is more like luck of the draw than a hard set rule. So like, some werewolves can't deal with tomato, some can eat chocolate, some die to onions, just roll the Dog/Wolf Allergen table and see what you win!

Idon't know enough about tomatoes to say what specific thing in then triggers it for Lucas tho, so feel free to theorize

He wasn't born a werewolf, having become one by choice, but because he is brazilian he counts his blessings everyday that the transformation induced new allergies/food intolerances didn't include onions.

bweirdOCtober day 7: Likes - Gardening

Exchanging her usual clothes for overalls and loose hair for a ponytail, Medeia calmly fixed the ground around her latest project. Ever her faithful companion, Argo laid down next to her, waiting patiently save for the occasional yip.

“Don't worry. I'm almost done.” She said, using her elbow to mess with him a bit, since her hands would get him dirtied by her gloves.

Eventually, a looming shadow announced someone else's presence. “So? What is this one?”

“Parsley. Just got some, so figured I might as well add it to my part of the garden.” Medeia explained.

“Your side is incredibly well-kept, given you have only been here for a couple months.” He remarked. “Aren't you taking this too seriously?”

“Plants are an important ingredient to many potions and medicines, aren't they, uncle Jack?” She asked, flashing that smile she showcased when she knew she was right. “I have to make sure I take care of the root of my creations. In fact, I’m planning on using some of them as mulch to increase the quality of future harvests. That should make our work reach the utmost quality.”

“Careful. Don’t make a videogame loop out of your skills.” He warned.

She chuckled, but replied. “What? Aren’t you the one who says one must always seek further knowledge?” Unnoticeable to her, he grew a little quieter upon hearing that. “Plants settle down their roots, grow and bring their successors into the world as they feed us and die. I like helping them prosper, is all.”

“... Yeah. There is nothing wrong with that. But now, come on. It’s gonna be night before long. Let’s get back in, shall we?” The wizard suggested.

Agreeing, his niece got up, stretched and called forth her energetic corgi. “Alright! Come here, Argo! Let’s go, boy!”

This place was secluded. Medeia wouldn’t have found it without a stroke of luck.

Golden apples, glowing softly under the sun, ethereal sight that required human hands to thrive. In this grotto purposefully hidden away from her sight and their garden, she saw remnants of mane, ore and other materials she had obtained for him.

Argo laid down by her side, steps tired. He still kept up with her wonderfully, but it was obvious it was growing tougher for her loyal companion to do so.

This was it, then.

“We have seen enough, haven’t we?” Squatting, the wizard’s niece opened her arms, letting her dog settle in. Getting up, she announced. “Come on. There is nothing for us here.”

Lucas cautiously looked at the potted plants that had popped up at his new flat, sandy ears twitching in curiosity. “Hey, Medeia. What are those?”

Taking off her headphones, his roommate got up to see what he was talking about and replied. “Oh. Um, sage, lavender, jasmine. Sorry, I made sure not to pick anything you’re allergic to, but I still should have checked first. Are you okay with them?”

“Yeah! They’re pretty. I just didn’t know this was something you knew how to do.”

Confidently (some would say smugly), she announced. “A good potion maker gets her materials straight from the source whenever possible! Helps learn about their characteristics and also avoid taking them for granted. I actually have an agreement with the agriculture people to make use of their greenhouses, but I felt like getting some potted plants for home care.”

Watching them some more, Lucas asked. “Could you teach me the basics of, like, gardening?”

“Hum? I mean, you don’t have to. I can take care of them by myself no problem.”

“I know that. But, one must always learn more, right? Maybe this will be handy for me in the future.” He argued.

At that point, she smiled. “Well said, Lu. Come here. Let’s start with the matters of watering…”

Exchanging her usual clothes for a brand new set of gardening gear the village tailor kindly made for her, Medeia calmly fixed the ground around her latest project.

“What are you doing?” The village's guardian asked her. His spear was always by his side, but his tone of voice and his body language, including his tail, left it clear that this visit was fueled by curiosity and nothing else.

“Hi, Vri! I decided I might as well take up gardening again. Just planted some rosemary.” She said, then, content with what she organized, got up, stretched, and proceeded to admit a thing or two. “I’ve been living a nomad lifestyle since I left college, pretty much, so I haven’t done this in a while. If I’m gonna be confined to this other realm, I might as well make the most of it.”

“That is how most newcomers here decide to see their situation. I’m sure you’ll do fine.” Looking over the small plot of land she was caring after, he offered. “Would you want me to water them for you?”

“Water from a Rain Dragon? Now that would be a blessing upon the harvest.” Medeia exclaimed. “Are you sure that is fine? I wouldn’t want to impose.”

“It is perfectly fine. I do this for the farmers here quite often. Besides, consider this an investment. We have a partnership, don’t we, folk healer? I’m sure this will help the villagers plenty.” He friendly remarked.

“Scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. Very well, go ahead!”

Putting his spear in front of him, Vri focused his natural magic, coating his brown skin with a glow the same shade of blue as his hair and scaled tail. Soon, small raindrops condensed into the air ahead of him, softly falling to the ground.

This wasn’t half-bad, Medeia thought. Maybe someday she would settle down for good again.

The years went by, and the potion maker stepped out of her house.

Her body didn’t quite agree with great adventures anymore, so retirement came at a good time. A small abode, decently near a village that could only very charitably be called a town, granting her that ‘weird grandma in the middle of the woods’ vibe that fit so perfectly on her.

Prepare the earth, spread the seeds, apply mulch. Alongside permanent residence, old hobbies returned to mind. She had seen much of the world. Now, it was time to sit down, settle roots and feed those who’d come after her. 

Checking the parts of her garden that were already blooming, she gathered a handful of thyme, and, humming softly, went back inside.

bweirdoctober day 27 - Fears: Mint/Control

Mint - College Age Medeia

On a lovely, cool autumn evening, Lucas was coughing his throat off.

“The flu season has hit you early, hasn't it Lu?” Medeia noticed, discreetly opening a window in order to keep the ventilation going.

“I have been… kinda weird for a bit, honestly.” He admitted, clear pain on his face and the roughness of his cry. “But I had a couple presentations yesterday, so I suppose that has made my voice finish burning out.”

Nodding, his roommate put the kettle on while throwing small talk at him here and there. The familiar noise and steam of the process entered his peripheral senses, the entire heating and steeping process being one he was well used to by then.

Diffusion done, she handed over the hot beverage to her friend. “Here you go. Warm mint tea. It won’t fix the root of your problems, but it should grant some immediate relief to your symptoms. I’ll prepare some actual medicine later.”

Mint? That was weird. Well, he was not gonna scorn this gift. Lucas blew upon it, then took a first sip. The familiar, refreshing taste immediately tickled a part of his brain, while the liquid’s cozy temperature soothed his body. Oh, whoa, this helped!

“Does that help?”

“A lot! Thanks, Medeia!” He beamed in return. Curiosity was taking over, though. “Can I ask a question?”

“Go ahead. What is it?”

“How come I have never seen you plant mint? I’m sure I’ve seen every other herb you ever used make their round as potted plants.” It was an innocent question. But the potion maker seemed to freeze on the spot from it, presenting some sort of primal fear he rarely saw from her. “Medeia?”

All things considered, mint is about barely two levels below that.” She elaborated. “I’ve had to make alchemic level botanic killers once. I am not. In any rush. To have to make some again. So I don’t. Raise. Mint.”

We probably don't have to worry about this world spitting out these soul fragments elsewhere.” Medeia theorized. “I'm surprised you dislike them so strongly, though. After all, you have a very good resistance to possession.”

“Well, I may have enough willpower to shrug that off more often than not, but hitting them is still a pain! And when they do get me, it does not feel good.” He said, grimacing the entire time, then got reminded of something that was in his mind. “Hey, Medeia. Can I ask you something?”

“Sure. Go ahead.”

“You're pretty much immune to possession, right? But, in spite of that, you carry a lot of alchemic material custom made to ward them off and I could feel real worry from you everytime it happened to me or the others. Why do you focus so much on means of preventing possession?” Damian asked.

“... You got a sharp eye, don't you? Simply put, I'm the kind of person who likes always being in control of my body and mind. The idea of losing sight of myself and my wants is not exactly pleasant to me. And it's- for now, let's just say it means I don't like to see it happen to other people. That's all.” She explained.

“I see. Is that why you always keep a stock of garlic around?”

“Oh? There are no vampires in the village, but that type of knowledge is present in the world? Interesting.” She remarked. “Well, not necessarily. Garlic just makes things tastier, does it not?”
