This was supposed to be about my fanfic and what themes I wanted to portray but I may have ranted a little lmao (this was written by someone who is late diagnosed)

the only kids at Hogwarts that are diagnosed as neurodivergent/disabled are those who were raised/have close ties to the muggle world so there's tons of kids who just don't know that there's people like them and they aren't a freak/stupid/weird/lazy their brains just operate differently.

Ron having dyslexia but not knowing it/ being undiagnosed while Hermione and Harry are diagnosed with their respective neurodivergence, used to show the difference on how a child who is undiagnosed views themselves and the importance of diagnosing your child if you suspect/ reminding children that they're allowed to talk about things they struggle with and that they should be treated with seriousness when they open up about it, and it not being seen as a "downside", a "weakness" as well as not being seen as a "super power" or that you're "special" (while that can be encouraging to younger kids it needs to be reminded that their disability can disable them and they're not wrong/a burden for asking for help/assistance and shouldn't be expected to never have bad days especially with people with chronic illness where mobility aids are involved and being interchangeable for some people (needing a wheelchair one day but a cane the next). The message being; you are allowed to have some sort of aid, you are allowed to ask for help help, and you sure as hell shouldn't apologize for simply existing in another's space. You are allowed to be there like anyone else.)

Disabled Harry Potter

I was reading a few fics with harry being Autistic/disabled in some way or another, and it as it often does, reminded me that I'm mentally disabled as well.

So I was wondering if I should write that my harry in the fic I'm writing is disabled in some way, a lot of him is based on me and so he was at the very least autistic coded with signs of PTSD and mild depression and Anxiety so perhaps I should do a couple scenes of him going to healers and it taking forever to get tested and diagnosed, did for me anyway, unless its different in the UK and it doesn't take as long.

Maybe of him being treated and it taking a years to get the right treatment (I'm still trying to find a good mix and it's been years since I diagnosed) of course my harry also is also a werewolf and has a limp from his attack, which causes random pains (happens to my joints all the time when I'm cold)

In other words I want to write the disability's I have onto harry and use myself and other people with similar issues as reference. But I'm unsure if people will like it since so many people without disabilities have written them and sometimes write them wrong turnin others away from stories like this.

We always talk about how James thinks he is too much and Regulus thinks he’s not enough, but may I propose the opposite? James, who is constantly living for others, afraid that he isn’t good enough for them so he burns himself out trying to be energetic and positive, while there’s Regulus, who is afraid that talking about his emotions and feelings too much will scare people away and will make them realize how different he really is from the rest of them, so he shuts himself out.

Regulus has a fear of being too much, that’s why he is so closed off. James is afraid of not being enough, that’s why he puts himself out there

Overwhelmed - Theodore Nott x Reader

Summary: Theo's overwhelmed, and you're the only person who can 'fix' that

Theos POV for now, yours later!

Theodore Nott had a lot on his mind. Homework, friendships and pretty much everything under the sun seemed to have it out for him, which sucked ass. 

As he picked up his bag, wincing at the texture of his clothes rubbing against him, Theo left the library. It feltl ike walking out of a bubble and into a whirpool, and everything felt like it was swirling around him. Sounds hit him in a rush, a gaggle of girls laughing, the Weasley twins sniggering at their latest victim.. and then an angry Mattheo storming towards him. 

"Theo, dude, what the fuck? Why weren't you at practice?" Mattheo looked mad, and Theo felt a horrible sensation in his gut. He'd missed practice studying. The library was a sanctuary for him, he'd needed the break, but hadn't remembered the consequences for his hour and a half of peace. 

"I'm sorry. Lost track of time." Theo replied, avoiding eye contact with his best friend. He wasn't sure when him and Mattheo had become friends, he had just seemed to appear beside Theo like a mosquito and never leave. Before him, Theo had had problems making friends. Then Mattheo made Theo his 'problem'. And suddenly Theo had friends, kaboom. 

Finally daring to look up at his friend, Theo immediately lookied away again. Mattheo wasn't angry anymore, just disappointed. Somehow that was worse. 

"I get it. Just could you maybe.. turn up next time? It means a lot to me, I don't want Potter beating us his first year as captain." Mattheo shuddered. 

"It's your first year as captain too." Theo said pointedly. 

"I know, and I need my other beater on the pitch, kay? Be there next time." Mattheo clapped him on the shoulder, making Theo wince, and kept walking. 

Theo sighed, walking on towards Slytherin common room, catching Blaise at the door. 

"Hey man, Mattheo's looking for you." Blaise said absent mindedly,tapping shoulder and walking past him with his nose buried in a book Luna had given him on Nargles. Theo winced at the touch again, mumbling a thank you as he got inside.

The touch. Practice. Laughing. It was getting in his brain, swirling around his thoughts, pricking him with tiny needles, he kept walking, he got touched again, and now a girl was asking if he wanted to go to hogsmeade and he was looking at her blankly and saying no, and it was all too much and then he was moving faster, getting up into his dormitory where it was safe and calm and-

Your POV

Your boyfriend was stood in the doorway, staring at you like a deer in headlights as you laid on his bed. He made a noise almost like a whimper before he dropped his bag, strode over to you and lay his head down in your lap, his face crumpling. 

You ran your fingers through his hair, lightly scratching his scalp in just the right way. You lay there like that with him for a while, waiting for him to speak, if he wanted to, your jeans slowly getting wetter, but you didn't mind.

"Too much." He finally whispered, eyes closed. You withdrew your fingers, worried you'd pushed him too far. He shook his head, putting your hand back in place. "Not you. Never you. Everything else." He whispered. 

"okay bubs." You whispered back to him. "Can I touch you?" You murmured, not wanting to upset him. He thought for a moment and then nodded. You leaned down and placed a small kiss on his temple. He looked at you blankly. "That was a kiss." He said flatly.  

"Yes. Was it okay?" You asked him, not forcing him to make eye contact. He pondered it.

"Yes." He sighed, lying in your lap. 

"Y/N, I'm sorry you have to put up with this. I wonder if there's a spell to make my head not like this, not all fuzzy and confused and tangled-" You gently placed a finger on his lips. 

"Theo, I like you like this. If you want to ifnd a spell for you, then that's okay, I'll help you, but don't change because you feel guilty. Okay? The right people love you anyway. I do. Okay bubba?" You kissed his temple again, and Theo frowned. 

"I hate autism." He folded his arms. You shook your head. 

"I think you hate feeling overwhelmed, not being autistic." You said softly. 

Theo nodded. "Theo, it makes no difference to how much I love you, but I think it's aweosme how you can sit down for hours and just focus in on something, whether it be a textbook or a doodle you started in class that you want to develop. Okay? I love you, silly." You smiled. 

Theo looked up at you and nodded. That would be all you got for the rest of the evening, but you didn't mind. He was still your Theo, and you wouldn't have him any other way.

Harry sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the space around him. What had he done to deserve all of this? There was no way this would last; the Dursley never wanted him, so why would Sirius? Sure, he was his godfather, but that didn't mean he would be able to handle all of Harry's weird, freakish quirks. His old teachers couldn't handle it, and they only had to deal with him for a few hours every day.

Harry groaned and fell back on the bed. This wasn't doing any good. Complaining and thinking like this, he should be grateful not to be in that place anymore. That Dumbledore finally decided he wouldn't have to live with them. Harry sighed and rubbed his face. Why was he like this?

The boys would absolutely eat up autistic!reader, I fear.

They have no idea what reader is yapping about but they are just nodding along and cheering her on. If she doesn't like the texture of a certain food, they are making sure it never ends up on her plate during meals. When Reader gets overwhelmed they immediately notify Mattheo because they know he's her safe person. They have all of her hiding places memorized for when she suddenly disappears somewhere to cool down AND they all buy her things related to her special interests and hyperfixations.

They also notice so many things about her since all of them are so observant. Theo will notice whenever you pick up a habit or a stim from one of your friends. Blaise sees the way your way you mindlessly copy people's mannerisms when talking to them. Enzo can tell whenever you're disassociating. Draco instantly knows when you're done with a conversation—and Mattheo just knows everything about you because he's just overall obsessed with you.

Realistically they also tease her about her autistic traits A LOT but never in a nasty or ill-intentioned way. They also literally do not know what autism is so there's a lot of trial and error.

Basically autistic!reader is too powerful for this world.

Regulus is a high masking autistic and with his family he learned to "act normal" and behave like an allistic. He learned not to talk too much, not to move too much, how to react, how to move, how to be.

He doesn't talk much because he hates small talk, he struggles with social interactions and has a lot of sensory issues and sometimes after a long day he snaps and meltdown with the Skittles (but they know how to react so it's okay)

He's never really been himself because he doesn't even know who he is, and then he meets James, with whom he feels so comfortable with for no reason.

Sometimes he would catch himself stimming or yapping with him and he would stop immediately but James never said anything about it. And Regulus doesn't even know how to deal with that because he's afraid that James will stop talking to him because he thinks he's weird.

(Secretly, James loves seeing Regulus being himself around him and he does everything to make Regulus yap about his special interest.)

adore the concept of Voldemort (and Harry) having different biological needs thanks to their parseltongue. Voldemort of course having the strongest traits but even before his resurrection having a clear difference in how he is from others

stronger sense of smells, more sensitive to temperature, a functioning Jacobson organ, changed vocal chords to allow them to actually speak parseltongue beyond imitation of mere words

also i just think that if it truly is a hereditary trait, that it would make sense it changes biology, plus my personal opinion that understanding parseltongue would rely just as much on pheromones as spoken words, considering how much snakes communicate through smell
