"Madame Delait pruning roses"
She was a French bearded lady from Thaon-les-Vosges, Lorraine region of eastern France. She run a local pub with her husband in the town and used to shave regularly until 1900.
In 1901, she visited the carnival of Nancy with her husband and saw a bearded woman there. Upon returning to the town, one of the regulars in the pub offered her 500 Francs (roughly 5k USD in today's money) if she let her beard grow. Even though she never get the money, she kept the beard and renamed the pub to Le CafƩ de La Femme Ơ Barbe, "The cafƩ of the Bearded Woman".
She became a kind of celebrity, by selling postcards and photographs (in relatively feminine settings at the beginning, later she even got a special permission from the authorities to wear men's clothes at her leisure, which was illegal at the time). She also toured in Europe and became even more famous during WW1 when she joined the Red-Cross and became the mascot of the Poilu (French infantrymen with lower class background).
French vintage postcard, mailed in 1937 to Paris

The real difference between British and American Edwardian-era light fiction is that American stories have college girls. The British ones have girls who went to boarding school together, but it's a different vibe. The boarding school vibe is more juvenille--our parents sent us here, we've got to sneak around under the watchful eyes of our teachers, etc.--while the college girls chose to take their education to a higher level, and there's more of a sense that they have to use it out in the world. There's more energy to it. I don't know. It's just a thing.

Ganondorf discovers his greatest enemy
Ganondorf took a sleepy breath as he shifted a little to get more comfortable. Link had been groggy at best and downright unresponsive at worst, but the healer had said it was likely due to the amount of blood heā€™d lost and the medicine Ganondorf had been instructed to give him. In either case, it delayed the inevitable conversations that would come, that had to come. Ganondorf would gladly take this time to just hold the sweet boy and not think about how much pain and potential hatred Link held for him, because of him.
The look in the boyā€™s face when heā€™d turned to see Ganondorf, neck pouring blood like a faucet, eyes terrified, had yet to be wiped from the Gerudoā€™s mind.
He really didnā€™t want to address any of it. It was a cowardly sentiment, and he despised that he felt it, but for just a little while longer, all he wanted was to hold Link and protect him from everything, including himself.
Link sniffled sleepily, tucked between Ganondorfā€™s arm and his chest. Heā€™d hardly moved, and the peaceful look on his face quieted the anxieties in his guardianā€™s mind.
The door to the bedroom opened slowly, catching Ganondorfā€™s attention. He saw his other child of destiny peeking in, green hat missing from his golden head. He must have been out riding, given how his usually perfectly quaffed hair was windswept and messy.
ā€œHowā€™s he doing?ā€ the captain asked, approaching with soft footsteps.
ā€œHeā€™s sleeping well, at least,ā€ Ganondorf answered. The little king in his arm scrunched his nose a bit at the sound before rubbing his cheek further into Ganondorfā€™s tunic to get comfortable.
The elder Link hummed thoughtfully, observing his predecessor, before holding out a booklet. ā€œI found this in the market. Itā€™s quite popular among theā€”well, it was recommended to me for someone who might be homebound caring for family. Good way to pass the time and all.ā€
Ganondorf looked at the booklet curiously. He wasnā€™t much of a reader, honestly, but he supposed he could be kept entertained for a little while. He could just leave the captain to watch the younger Link, but he didnā€™t want to let the child go.
Child. Heā€™s far from that. But he really wasnā€™t. Not in Ganondorfā€™s mind, at least. In either case, he didnā€™t want to leave him, so this would be a nice distraction while the younger one slept.
When Ganondorf glanced at the booklet, his eyes widened a little. He glanced at the captain. ā€œThe Secrets of the Imprisoning War? Who would have such information?ā€
Link just smiled sweetly. ā€œI heard itā€™s an engaging read. Perhaps there are some truths in there that even you do not know, old man.ā€
Ganondorf squinted. There was something mischievous in that smile. He knew this boy well enough by now, loved him and cherished him and simultaneously wanted to knock his head into a wall. While his younger hero was quiet and seemingly passive off the battlefield, his older one was brazen, charismatic, and cheeky. The captain could be as cold as ice and serious when he needed to be, but when he didnā€™tā€¦
Heā€™d give him the benefit of the doubt. For now. ā€œWeā€™ll see.ā€
The older hero nodded a little, opening the curtains a bit more so there was better lighting on the bed. The room in which they were staying was a large one with a balcony, so perhaps Ganondorf could just carry his charge outside and they could relax and read there. Heā€™d just stay here for now - it was only late morning. He opened the booklet and began reading.
The Imprisoning War: An epic time in Hyruleā€™s history, from ages so long past that scarcely a fact is known about it, filled to the brim with fantastical legends that all come to the same conclusion: the Hero victorious, evil banished away for the rest of eternity, a primordial curse shattered into pieces. But what do we know of the players in this epic quest? What if their struggles, their losses, their secrets and loves? This is their story, ranging from the Heroā€™s steamy relationship with the Sacred Diplomat to the secret love life of the incarnation of evil himself.
Ganondorf choked on his spit. Theā€”the secretā€”WHAT?
What did that boyā€”what wasā€”
Dinā€™s Fire this wasā€”now he had to read it to figure out what the hell this was all about!
Naturally, Captain Link was still lingering outside the room with his friend, cackling when the former terror of Hyrule exclaimed, ā€œI DID NOT HAVE AN AFFAIR WITH Aā€”WHO WROTE THIS??ā€
ā€œOkay, okay, wait,ā€ Lana wheezed. ā€œDo you think he got to the part where he had a steamy moment with the dragon queen or was it the unsuspecting perfectly beautiful peasant woman?ā€
ā€œWith that much insult in his tone? Definitely the peasant,ā€ the captain answered between laughs.
ā€œI CAN HEAR YOU TWO!ā€
With that singular warning, Lana and Link fled the area, breathless with amusement.

me when the fix-it fic about the villain who killed dozens of people, ruined even more lives and threatened world peace has them serving just a few years jail time as part of a very generous, frankly unrealistic plea deal

Maybe Iā€™m stupid (likely) but I feel like Gojo resembling Toji in his battle with Megumi!Sukuna is trying to show that he is a paternal figure in Megumiā€™s life. Like the two different sides of Megumiā€™s male paternal figures (or I guess the two most consistent male adult figures in Megumiā€™s life)??? I donā€™t buy that Gojo was a father figure for Tsumiki and Megumi (to me he was more like Spencer from ICarly lmao) but likeā€¦i feel like the outfit similarity is trying to say something about their relationship on a familial or paternal scaleā€¦but im too dumb to fully phrase this how i want so maybe just ponder on this for me hahaha

Following up on my "I find it more comforting to read about characters getting by despite facing the same challenges I do" post, the read I'm enjoying a surprising amount today is David Brin's The Postman. Yes, there was a movie. 1-sentence summary: Civilization is rebuilt post-apocalypse by the power of hope symbolized by dedicated civil servants.
Also, for a book written by a guy in the 80s, it's surprisingly okay about women.

also like. in general. thereā€™s a lot of blaseball fic published in the time since s24 with <10 kudos. i bring that number up because i assume that means not many folks have seen them. itā€™s been pretty quiet on blao3 for a hot minute! soā€¦
if you have any blb writers you have been fond of in your time as a fan, whether that was coronation or expansion or way back in discipline, check their ao3 profiles. chances are theyā€™ve kept writing and thereā€™s a lot more for you to read. the writers have never made a habit of stopping when the game does. branch out and explore the stories theyā€™ve told, now that the sim wonā€™t be giving us any more. and be sure to leave kudos and comment when you do!

so like if you have a baby bailey tries to take them to the orphanage no matter what right? what do you think kylar is gonna do. how will he react when you have his baby and bailey tries to take it
screeches at the top of his lungs if he's there to see it. you know this man is holding your hand while you give birth (he definitely cries with you, does not look at the doctor when they're speaking to him, he's waaaayy too focused on you because this might just be the most important thing that has ever happened in his life.) so when that cranky old asshole snatches your baby from you he's fighting like a rabid dogā€”gets even worse if you try to soothe him or assure him that bailey means wellā€”your precious baby shouldn't be tainted by the hands of that asshole!
idk. i really hope vrel can let the baby stay in kylar's manor like with alex on the farm. like. surely kylar's parents would love their first grandchild... lotta potential for an event where pc catches one of kylar's parents looming over the side of the manger cooing at their grandchild. like. CMON!!!! make the monster parents loveable pls. i want them to like me :( pls guys i literally want to marry your son :( pls like me even a little bit
but yeah. kylar would be furious. idk if he'd pull a knife in a hospital though, probably didn't bring it with him because even though he knows the doctor is just doing their job he does get a little jealous at their position between your thighs... yeah. he's THAT cringe.

Getting an adulthood diagnosis for something that's been present since early childhood is sooooo fucking šŸ‘ļøšŸ‘ļø there's catharsis sure yeah but the struggle comes from trying to forgive your child self for failures you weren't really having.
Anyway shout out to my autoimmune girlies. Who else got shamed for early childhood cavities and expensive adolescent surgeries only to find out as an adult you are full of mouth-ruining antibodies lol. Girlies who else is unpacking their "chronic illness bad teeth = shameful moral failing" buuuullshit? Anyway I'm still trying to save $16,000 to fix fucked teeth I thought I brought on myself, but only discovered in 2023 were due to medical study candidate levels of sjogrens antibodies and severely medically mismanaged sle šŸ¤Ŗ
