Work Description: This is my first year doing MTH, so I'm very open on pricing and details! I don't have much specific in mind, so let's dream up something great together. In general, the higher your bid, the longer your fic. Max limit approx 50k, but I am notoriously bad at estimating word length once I get into a story. As for scheduling, I would like to try and get things wrapped up within a year, and the shorter the story, the easier that will be. I usually write primarily in the MCU with some comics influences. Open to platonic/nonsexual/etc pairings of any of the above offerings. Not really into domestic/fluffy AUs or most modern ones, unless it involves trauma, goat farming, or gardening. Work Description: I am just starting out in my podfic practice, but I'd love to put your story to audio! You can see a few examples of my previous pods on my AO3 page. The most recent one is Haunted House by Rainbow_WinterBones, and that will give you the best idea of my current mic quality and setup (previous pods were done with an older mic.) The higher starting bid reflects the time needed for both recording and editing. The longest pod I've done so far is 20 min, about 4k words, but I'm willing to go for longer stories. The higher the bid, the longer the pod! They may take a while for me to start and complete, as I often have to wait until I am home alone for the best recording environment, but I will do my best to get them done by the 2024 deadline, probably earlier. I'm open to many pairings and any rating for podfic recording, but do be aware that I am an American who is not super practiced at doing accents in my voice work. these are things that i do not enjoy and would make it difficult for me to continue reading a fic if they are a majority of the content: torture porn (hurt/no comfort and hurt with no purpose other than to cause pain & suffering); spiders & other bugs; angst with no guaranteed happy ending; miscommunication with no resolution; manipulation and/or gaslighting between main ship; intentional & unresolved infidelity between main ship characters

i will typically refuse to read sex acts involving the following, but invite you to make your case if you feel very strongly about it (or it 'occurs off-screen’): scat, vomit, piss, bestiality, vore, explicit non-con, your name fics (y/n), reader x character-in-one-of-my-main-ships, genderswap to force a hetero pairing from an originally explicitly queer ship

my “brand” is what i like to call “bedtime stories” podfic. due to some circumstances beyond the scope of this post, my podfics are recorded on my secondhand e-reader in a very basic app. i usually read curled up in bed or in my favorite chair. i like to imagine my close fandom friends as the intended recipient to give it a cozy hangout charm. so the concept goes like this: “bedtime stories is a very chill, completely unedited, live-read style podfic. the vibe is like i'm the grandpa from the movie the princess bride and you need a distraction bc maybe you're not feeling too great today. so you get comfy and i'm gonna read you a story.”

one of the reasons i started making podfics is bc i am post-T-puberty genderqueer transmasc and learning to lean into and love my new voice. i am experimenting with and learning how to do consistent character voices, but it is not a strength of mine at this time. and, again, my ability to do that will depend on my familiarity with the characters and the source media. i also sometimes play songs in the background to help me focus (autism & adhd here), especially for longer projects (but i’ve figured out how to play the music directly in my headphones while still recording, if you don’t want to have what i am listening to also recorded while i am reading)

i like to pair music videos/fanvids/gifs with my podfics in the ao3 post to make it a fun multimedia experience (and like a game for me!) even with my nonexistent editing and post-production style. i welcome the bidder to share their “fandom propaganda”--i want to know why you love the fic(s) and why you chose it to be podficced! and maybe i'll feature a fanvid you shared with me in the ao3 post!

so. if what you want for your podfic are lots of post-production editing with added sound effects & soundscaping/music effects, with a “perfect” read and no environmental noise or outside interruptions: i am not the person to make that project for you. if you don’t mind/actively enjoy a "friendly hangout & fandom chatty" sort of cold-read & zero-editing style, then bid on me!

Fandom Trumps Hate 2025 is coming!

Fandom Trumps Hate is ramping up for its ninth year, and I'm hoping you'll join me in participating! Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to be posting about this event, different ways to be involved, and keeping you apprised of important dates as they arrive. To start -- a quick FAQ!

What is Fandom Trumps Hate?

Fandom Trumps Hate (or FTH for short) is a massive cross-fandom auction of fanworks for charity. Contributors sign up to offer a digital (or sometimes physical!) creation, and bidders agree to donate an amount to selected charitable organizations. Over the past 8 years, they (and the hundreds of creators and bidders who have participated) have raised over $300,000 for dozens of organizations doing important work in fields including LGBTQ+ rights, housing insecurity, voting advocacy, racial inequality, environmental issues, and more.

What kinds of things can be in the auction?

Anything you can imagine and create! Most of the auctions are digital content, but there is also the Craft Bazaar for physical items. And even within the digital offerings, there's a ton of variety -- fanfics are one of the more popular, but there's also fanart, fan labor (such as beta-ing, region-picking or expertise-picking, coding, etc.), podfics, music, gifmaking, and more!

What are the key dates I should know about?

Creator signups are from Monday, January 20th to Sunday, February 2nd

On Friday, February 21st, the auctions will all be posted for bidders to peruse before the bidding period

Auction bidding is from Tuesday, February 25th at 8am EST to Saturday, March 1st at 8pm EST

Is auctioning off fanworks even legal?

I mean, technically everything in fanwork is a bit of a legal grey area, loosely protected by fair use. The key here is that the creators are not "selling" fanworks, nor are bidders "commissioning" the fanworks -- no money ever goes from bidder to creator, only from bidder to charitable organization. Instead, these fanworks are gifts to thank the bidders for their donation.

I'm familiar with a lot of the famous musicals (Hamilton, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, etc.) and most of StarKid productions (Firebringer and Twisted are my fave). Reasons for hope:

I saw Games Done Quick mentioned so I thought I would share Fandom Trumps Hate! FTH is an annual event founded in 2016 where fan creators put up fanfiction, fanart, and other fan projects (podfic, book binding, editing, all kinds of things) for auction and the proceeds go 100% to selected charities. The charities vary but have included LGBTQ rights groups, immigrant/refugee orgs, and even environmental groups like the Xerxes foundation. It's good fun and they've raised $300,000 across 8 years. Signups for this year start soon!

Thanks for sending this!! I'm actually a huge fan of Fandom Trumps Hate - I've participated several times.

They raise money for some really great organizations, focusing on smaller, more local organizations where a few thousand dollars can really make a huge difference.

Fandom Trumps Hate Podfic Testimonial!

As a creator, I've only had positive experiences in the three years I've participated in Fandom Trumps Hate. Each time, I've offered my services as both a writer and a podficcer.

Something to remember when you sign up for Fandom Trumps Hate is that you can tailor your offering to suit yourself as a creator. This goes beyond selecting fandoms and the length of the podfic(s) you'll create. You can request that your high bidder choose works that already have permission to podfic. You can specify content that you're not comfortable engaging with. You can tell bidders what you're good at, what you enjoy, and what they can expect if you create a podfic for them.

My first year, I recorded a fic chosen and written by my high bidder. They were lovely about everything--patient when I had to re-record a chapter, enthusiastic about my work, and full of praise when I posted.

My second and third years, I curated a "playlist" of podfics for my high bidders based on their favourite fandoms, tropes, pairings, and podfic styles. It was a fun way for me to get to know my bidders, and a lovely surprise for them whenever I posted a new work.

My point here is, FTH is not a one-size-fits-all for bidders or creators. It's designed so that your auction reflects what will inspire you creatively, so bidders who want you and the fanworks only you can create are able to find and connect with you.

For me, FTH is motivation and inspiration to create podfics for someone who will appreciate and enjoy my work, and a way to contribute to a good cause.

Finally, here is my experience as a bidder...FTH bidders are wild for podfics. I've been outbid on every auction, three years in a row. :)

It's that time again, Remedy fans: Fandom Trumps Hate 2025 is just about to begin.

If you've never participated in FTH, this could be your year. It's an online auction for fanworks, with all proceeds going to small, progressive non-profits. You can offer a wide variety of work, like:

written fanworks (fic, poetry, remixes, etc.)

digital art, which includes but is not limited to gifsets, manips, moodboards, etc.

podfics

fanvids (including fancams)

fan labor, which includes but is not limited to betaing, brit/japan/america/other region-picking, or offering specialist expertise.

This year, I'd love to see Remedy fanworks from all corners of our little fandom up for auction. Monday, January 20th: creator signups open for both the auction and the crafts bazaar

Sunday, February 2nd: creator signups close

Friday, February 21st: browsing period begins, crafts bazaar announcement goes live

Tuesday, February 25th, 8am ET: bidding opens

Saturday, March 1st, 8pm ET: auction bidding closes

Monday, March 10th: craft stalls close

Wednesday, March 12: proof of donations due
