He licks his lips. “Won’t happen again. I won’t even tell Sherlock. No chance of him showing up next time.”

“It’s not Sherlock. I’m afraid it’s you.”

“The way you look at him…”

“I’m not gay.”

You never look at me like that. “Sometimes, it doesn’t matter.”

It will take him months to realise. By then, Sherlock will be dead.

You're doing so well! Thanks for the insights into your writing. That makes the work even more meaningful.

I was pleasantly bowled over by the enthusiastic response to my most recent fanfic, and if I had known that was going to happen I would have taken more care with the post and given myself a better introduction.

I'm new to the world of fanfiction, so I'm unfamiliar with how these things are done, so please forgive my awkwardness :) I started writing "The Second Story" because my therapist suggested that I try narrative therapy - basically writing fiction about what's troubling you. I had recently found out that I was AuDHD well into adulthood and was having lots of feelings about that, so these stories have been one of the ways I've been processing everything. My therapist has posited that one of the things I'm doing is using the character of Watson to create an ideal partner for my younger, very confused and timid self, and I think that is accurate. I have given Holmes my internal voice and many of my sensory preferences, but the other details of his character are imagined; Watson is a combination of my therapist and my partner, who is my real life Watson, and I read these stories to him because in a weird, roundabout way they are also a love letter to him.

The first two stories are probably the most important for understanding those that follow, since that's where I spend the most time discussing Sherlock's sensory issues and their dramatic first experience together. My only rule for writing, aside from attempting to stay true to Doyle's characters, is that Watson has to love Holmes no matter what; regardless of his eccentricity or weirdness, Watson will find a way to work with it. I wanted these stories to feel very safe, accepting, kind, and hopefully even a bit sexy for people on the spectrum who have issues or confusion when it comes to physical intimacy.
