Could I request the Astral Express trio (you can choose Stelle or Caelus) with a reader (GN) who is also a member of the Express who is like an older sibling? Reprimanding them when they get hurt, or comforting them when they're upset?
No One is Alone
Summary: Life aboard the Astral Express isn't just about fighting enemies or exploring new worlds—it's also about looking out for each other. As the team's older sibling figure, you take it upon yourself to reprimand Dan Heng and Stelle after they return from a mission injured. Through scolding, comforting, and heartfelt conversations, you remind them that they're part of a team and don't have to face their struggles alone.

The hum of the Astral Express filled the air, a comforting backdrop to life aboard the interstellar train. You sat in the lounge, scanning over a datapad while keeping half an ear tuned to the faint commotion from the infirmary. It was a sound you'd become all too familiar with since joining the crew.
Dan Heng and Stelle—recovering from yet another scrape they shouldn't have gotten into.
The infirmary door swished open, and March peeked out, her expression torn between amusement and sympathy. "They're ready for the scolding..." she chirped.
You sighed, setting your datapad aside. Rising to your feet, you felt the weight of your role—neither a fighter nor a strategist, but the de facto big sibling of this unconventional family.
The scene in the infirmary was almost comical. Stelle sat on one of the cots, a bandage around her upper arm, her usual unbothered expression firmly in place. Dan Heng stood nearby, his arms crossed over his chest, looking stoic despite the gash on his shoulder that hadn't been there when the mission started.
"Care to explain?" you began, arms crossed and gaze level.
"It was just a minor miscalculation." Dan Heng replied calmly.
"A 'minor miscalculation' doesn't leave you bleeding, Dan Heng," you said pointedly, turning to Stelle. "And you—didn't I tell you to call for backup if things went south?"
Stelle gave a sheepish shrug. "I thought we could handle it."
"You thought wrong." You sighed, your tone softening as you crossed the room. Grabbing a chair, you sat between them, your expression gentler now. "I know you're both incredibly capable. But even the best make mistakes. You're part of a team—you don't have to shoulder everything alone."
Dan Heng's gaze flickered to the floor, and Stelle's shoulders slumped slightly.
"You don’t need to push yourself to the point of breaking to prove anything," you added, standing to place a reassuring hand on each of their shoulders. "We're in this together. If something happened to either of you, we’d all feel it. And you’d feel the same if it were March, right?"
Both nodded, though they didn’t meet your gaze.
"Good. Now, promise me you’ll call for help next time."
"Promise." Stelle said, a small smile tugging at her lips. Dan Heng gave a slight nod, his stoic mask cracking just enough for you to catch the faintest hint of guilt.
Later, in the privacy of the archive, you found Dan Heng surrounded by stacks of books. He looked up as you entered, his expression as composed as ever.
"You didn't just come here to read, did you?" you asked, pulling up a chair.
"...No," he admitted after a moment, his voice quiet. "I thought I could avoid putting others at risk by keeping things to myself. I didn’t think about how that might affect the team."
You smiled softly, resting a hand on his. "Dan Heng, you're not a burden. You're not just running from your past anymore—you’re building a future with all of us. And we need you to trust us enough to let us help."
He hesitated, then gave a small nod. "I'll try."
Later that evening, Stelle found you in the lounge, sitting with a warm drink. She plopped down beside you, her usual confidence dimmed by something you couldn’t quite place.
"You were right," she said, uncharacteristically subdued.
"About what?" you asked, setting your drink down.
"About asking for help." She stared at the floor for a moment before meeting your eyes. "I’m used to going it alone. But... it’s different with you guys. It’s like, I know you’ve got my back, and that’s scary because now I care. You know?"
You smiled, ruffling her hair like a younger sibling. "That’s not a bad thing, Stelle. Caring means you’re not just surviving anymore—you’re living."
She leaned into your side, her head on your shoulder. "Thanks, big sibling."
"Anytime," you said, wrapping an arm around her. "Just stop scaring me with the near-death experiences, okay?"
"I’ll try." she mumbled, and for now, that was enough.

The Veilguard: my full review [positive, long post, less about game mechanics and more about meta, spoilers]
The thing that makes Veilguard special to me is how self aware the game is. In every dialogue, plot twist or quest I can feel the presence of somebody who wanted to share something with me. Be it personal experience, message, pain or joy. As of 2024, many games have lost their creative spark. Video game industry is no longer a nerd only zone, it's a business no different than others. Many studios utilize AI to write their plots, chase after current trends or simply make decisions that would create the biggest audience possible at the expense of something people love the franchise for. Veilguard did well, because it showed me something I haven't seen in a very long time: the human soul.
Perhaps you have noticed it on your own. The world has gone completely nuts after the covid. Or maybe it has always been this way and I only noticed it now. It is not a surprise to me that players want their game to be darker, to have more aggressive dialogue and to have a morally grey or even evil protagonist. For the past few years I've been feeling like someone had turned the lights off. And the game gave me an impression that someone at bioware feels this way too.
Only negativity gives content creators views and money these days. Open any social media, read any post or watch any video. If something is on top, it's almost always a hate post. What was the last movie most reviewers enjoyed? The last game? Perhaps the one that was released 10 years ago? What was the last time, you, my dear reader, have smiled? Not bitterly or sardonically, but out of genuine joy?
It is extremely fitting that Rook's mentor figure is Varric. Varric is somebody who always sees the best in people. He grew up in one hell of a city but he still loves it. He can find something to laugh about no matter how dire the situation is. He is a people person who can build friendship with anybody. Varric is very charismatic and tends to avoid conflict. He is a chronic liar but that doesn't make him bad because he never lies with malicious intentions. And in some ways, Rook is similar to him.
Yes, Rook can't be a complete asshole. Because the game is not about being an asshole. One of our antagonists, Solas, considers the world to be sick. Modern Thedas is a grave mistake that haunts him. He can't forget and move on because even the elves themselves wear his mistakes on their faces. Many things that are normal to the player character aren't normal to Solas. The world is so wrong and disgusting to Solas that he is willing to sacrifice things and people who are dear to him just to make the twisted world better.
Rook is nice because they are supposed to represent what is good in modern Thedas. They are supposed to be somebody who thinks the world is worth fighting for. And to a certain extent, their factions as well. The crows are contract killers and the lords of fortune are thiefs. Grey wardens are very concerned with politics and all the secrets they refuse to share constantly get people killed. Mourn watch has their immoral power hungry politicians as well and veil jumpers are sometimes willing to trade people for ancient secrets. They all aren't without sin but that's not the point. The point is, even with all the ugliness and darkness, there is still a place for light. And the light in the darkness is the exact message bioware tried to convey. The crows not being comically evil is not bad writing. It is a conscious writing choice to give us a human face for something we consider ugly and not worth fighting for. The player is metaphorically Solas, who needs to be persuaded that the world is worth at least something. The writers didn't need to bare the souls of player factions in all their mistakes, imperfections and cruelty. Because they showed us the factions' humanity. Some cruelty is still there, on the background, but it doesn't overshadow what is good. The crows, no matter how terrible, are a family. Viago may call Rook an idiot and while Rook considers their training literal torture, they sure love Viago back.
In fact, familial love is one of the core themes of the Veilguard. We have Emmrich and Manfred, Davrin and Assan and uncle Endrin, Lucanis and Caterina and Illario, Taash and Shathann, Bellara and Cyrian. It's a bit less direct with Neve and Harding. Neve has a lot of love for her city which is almost like a person to her, and Harding...I'll explain with a quote. "You're Lace Harding! You're more than this rage! You believe that the world is beautiful! That people are good! Hold onto it, hold on to who you are!".
Even the evanuris share the theme of family. Rook can compare Elgar'nan and Solas to relatives who can't get along. Elgar'nan calls Ghilan'nain his sister. Both shards of Mythal consider modern elves her children. Different but no less beloved, as Morrigan puts it.
Veilguard shows family without rose-tinted glasses. It shows that sometimes to love your children is to sacrifice something else you love (Lichdom for Emmrich), that parents have their own problems that may harm their children no matter how much parents wish to protect them (Shathann understands she is not the best mother and has complicated relationships with the Qun that harmed Taash), that sometimes parents do not understand their children at all and it's only up to children themselves to close the gap in understanding (Mythal, Solas and Rook), that familial love and desire to protect your family may turn into something ugly (Caterina being cruel to her grandchildren to prepare them for harsh realities of the antivan crows).
There is conflict in Veilguard, of intergenerational nature. Companions and their families, Rook and their faction leader, elves ancient and modern. It's up to the player how to deal with the last one. Humans, dwarves and qunari may not share blood ties with ancient elves but they still live in the world ancient elves created. As Rook, you're allowed to lash out in anger at Mythal and Solas. You can call Mythal guilty of all modern problems and fight her. You can bind Solas to the veil by force, call him asshole and express your frustrations with him multiple times throughout the game. You can also express sympathy and forgive them both. Because forgiving is neither condoning nor condemning, it's understanding and letting go. Being understood and allowed to peacefully let go of his mistakes is the exact thing that Solas needs to change his mind.
I believe that the Veilguard companions are one of the very best I've ever seen in a video game. They may not have as many different fates as for example Alistair has but is goodness measured with the amount of ways a character can be killed? I love the Veilguard crew because they all feel very real. Their personal problems are universal and very close to the player. Taash's story is not about being non-binary. It's about growing up, finding your place in the world, separating from your family and learning to appreciate it despite the mistakes your parents did while parenting you.
It's hard to decide who is my favorite. Taash's story made me cry but so did Harding's and Bellara's. The last scenes of Lucanis romance made me feral. I can't stomach the scene where Davrin and Assan die. The consequences of destruction of Minrathous/Treviso were hard to look at. I felt guilt, and if a game makes me feel something, it's a good game. I laughed, I cried, I was afraid and I felt joy, I was angry, I felt shame, I felt love. The game made me feel alive, I played through Rook's story like it was my own, what not to love about it?
The double blight wreaking havoc in Southern Thedas is sad but beautifully symbolic. Almost like a love letter from a long lost lover, It felt like bioware's meta commentary to me. "Yes, a whole lot of time has passed. We are no longer as young as we used to be, and so are you, not only the player, but our treasured friend as well. We have changed, you have changed and so did the world around us. Gaming and the video game industry are not what they used to be. We will never be able to go back no matter how much we want it because the only path that is left is the path forward. It doesn't mean that we no longer remember our shared past, no. We may not be able to go back but we promise to remember it fondly. We are still capable of creating beauty and the past will serve as a foundation for something new. We still have hope, and so should you".
The Veilguard to me is about nostalgia as well. I don't want to feed my inner Solas who sees the current world as sick. I want to make space for my inner Rook who is hopeful about the world just enought to fight for its future.
#if you respond with some sort of negativity to this I am breaking into your house and stealing your hamster#and breaking your kneecaps as well#veilguard spoilers#dragon age the veilguard#dav#datv#meta#game review#veilguard positive

ok the way gem actually was walking towards pearl's general area while pearl was holding the mace. and idk if she actually saw pearl but im pretty sure gem looked up, turned back and walked right to where skizz asked her to??? and pearl just had to stand there and watch as gem basically gave the kill to skizz. like ohhh my god i have so many thoughts about this but all i can say rn is what in the world of yuri.
- 🐫
it’s so funny how they spent half their episodes effectively trying to provoke the other person as much as possible
i mean, do i even need to explain. they want each other baaaaad. on surface it might seem like another failing-to-kill-gem bit, especially with the comical sequences of pearl putting down the creeper eggs and gem easily dodging. however, both pearl and gem approach their “designated” roles of would-be killer and exasperated target a little differently than they did before. pearl doesn’t try her best, and gem doesn’t mock her like she did mumbo/tango.
gem and pearl hold each other in high esteem. even when they hate each other they obviously still respect the other’s skill. i suspect this is part of why gem was so offended when pearl tried to “2v1” her with impulse; because pearl was being stupid by underestimating herself, and then obviously because it was SL all over again.
let’s not even talk about both of them beelining for a camel. this is by far the number one WL ship right now in terms of content and actual interactions (besides ethubs). it’s not shipper mind, they’re actively pulling these stunts to see how crazy they can drive the fandom. like, the thirsty comment, “my poor red pearl”, “gem you’re beautiful”??? i swear they’re scheming on discord before recording or something (jk i know they aren’t).
cc!pearl did mention on stream that she should probably back off which is funny because it shows she didn’t pick up the obvious social cues that gem wanted to give her a chance by offering a 1v1 instead of flat out saying “don’t kill me” or “you suck at killing me”. also, if there are other pearl stream watchers reading this post, you would know that pearl said the same thing about not wanting to bother gem too much over the pickle bit, which is why she dropped it so suddenly. honestly very considerate of her
as for their convo on the camel. gem is explicitly grasping at straws over the end portal thing, but “did you even look me in the face during the murder camel… thing” is a great one-liner out of context. i thought it was going to be like a “you couldn’t even face me properly” but no it was just over the yellow life skin. pearl defending the disloyal allegations by saying scar was her ally is funny as well because it was the exact same argument she gave scott and i don’t think she understands that gem and scott have very different priorities. and gem clarifies she wasn’t upset over the betrayal (suree) but over the 2v1 which reveals some interesting things about her character and moral code which i’ll leave to the gem mains*. i do hope pearl keeps up the “how much do you love/hate me” thing though it’s a funny bit in general, plays into the pining/unmoved dynamic, and opens up the conversation. fluff duo that wants to be angst so badly
and if you’re following me and for some reason don’t watch gem or pearl, please do. there’s a reason why everyone’s saying they’re flirting because they’re toeing the line as close as you can.
what can i even add to this. it’s like going to a michelin restaurant and pointing out that the food is good.
*i always say this but i am effectively a gem main. i think her character is just too difficult for me and i don’t want to admit that i can’t figure out how to approach it
#ask#i didn’t proofread this i need a little more time to rewatch and process their episodes#so it’s not very coherent

Hello! I'm not sure if you read the Actions Comics #1074, but I wanted to get this thought out of my head. Spoilers ahead!
Clark got sent back in time when Krypton has yet to be destroyed. After saving a stranger from a malfunctioning flying bot, he was sent to Krypton Hospital and, after he was given treatment, a meal, and new set of clothes, he immediately went to place Lara and Jor-El were.
I couldn't help but think his sudden visit to Lara and Joe-El reminded me of how in some Asian countries, you could just walk into your neighbor's home, usually without a prior notice, and just...eat with them, talk with them, and other activities. I remember someone talking about how in their country, they would go to their neighbor's home so much and help them with chores like laundry, they knew the days when that neighbor does which chores and always got meal going there.
In my country, the Philippines, my grandpa's neighbors would just appear with no notice, and give my grandparents company!
Indeed, Clark did send some sort of message about his visit to that Lara received, but he immediately left from the Krypton Hospital to the place of Lara and Jor-El's, and even though the Science Council is conceited, the communal spirit must be so strong for Lara to just accept this stranger's sudden and quick request for a meeting, even though she doesn't know them.
just...something about community and how people just helping each other because they want to, which bring about an easier life and also a joyful one
Anyway! What comics have you recently read? I think Absolute Superman is out now! Have you read Absolute Superman? What do you think about it?
I gave said Action Comics issue a quick read!
It's definitely not intentional in the story, but it does serve as a nice jumping off point to thinking of Krypton as having a type of collectivist communal mindset for treating thy neighbors. Part of what fascinates me about Kryptonian worldbuilding is exploring what the idea of a doomed utopia could be like. I'd personally love to see writers pull inspiration from cultural philosophies like Gotong Royong or Bayanihan, along with challenging human structures of gender, class and spirituality. An indigenous-inspired Krypton would be phenomenal.
But as long as DC Comics continues to be a reflection of a white dominant industry, we're not going to get anything like that soon. The Action Comics story is charming enough, I like seeing Clark try out Kryptonian clothes and mention that he has a language barrier, but the white imagination can only go so far without having lived it.
I have read Absolute Superman! My feelings about it are actually pretty similar. I'm glad I wasn't excited for AbsoSupes because it sounded boring from the promos, and turns out, it (the first issue at least) was indeed dull. Something Absolute Superman shares in common with Absolute Batman is that it doesn't stand on its own. These takes rely on being contrarian (what they call "subversive") to their source material. If I didn't know anything about Superman, I'd honestly think this was a pretty generic alien superhero story.
I notice most of the people enjoying AbsoSupes are praising it because they've done 80 years of Superman homework to get all its references and recognize what it's twisting. But I think an over-reliance on expecting your audience to do reading pre-requisites to even like a story at all is weak. Absolute Wonder Woman on the other hand, is an outstanding, mythic take on the character- no homework required, just genuinely compelling characterization and storytelling.
(spoilers for Absolute Superman #1)
To bring this back to my feelings on Krypton, Superman writers and DC as a company; I think stuff like Man Of Steel, that Krypton tv show, MAWS and Absolute Superman reflect the very limits of the white imagination. New Superman writers are no longer invested in exploring Superman's origin planet as a utopia, because that's not something white people can relate to or fathom. Instead, they'd rather Krypton be a direct reflection of Earth's problems.
Kryptonians are now colonizers, classist and bigoted. Krypton is no longer the land of the future sending down their one hope to guide the imperfect people of Earth into a better tomorrow. There's no appealing contrast between Earth and Krypton anymore, and because of that- Kal El becomes an exception from Planet Colonizer. He's just some decent guy from the other equally shitty country. It's not that you can't make an interesting hero from that, but I've certainly seen that guy many times before. It's nothing new.
Kal now doesn't have a cast system and wanders around on his own, I've seen how that kind of character struggles because I've read Martian Manhunter stories. Kal talks to his suit because he's Iron Man now I guess. Kal was actually more grown up when he was on Krypton instead of a baby, so... just like Supergirl is in canon- well that's not new either. Lois Lane is a government agent here, because why have characters who occupy unique jobs like being a librarian or a journalist when you can make them yet another cop or agent? When the biggest personal experience integrated into Kal your Absolute Superman writer boasts about is how he's the first writer who is actually from Kansas to write Superman, this is what you get.
#askjesncin#jesncin dc meta#i know people love mark waid as a supes writer but be serious#is the guy who wrote Strange Fruit really going to give you the immigrant Superman story you deserve#i heard waid loved maws to the point he wish he thought of those ideas and I can't speak to the levels of dumb that makes him sound#media criticism#longish post?

Oh I certainly will give you all the credits, as although I did have some vague plans to make a plural-based DC fanfic eventually centered around one of the characters, I found it hard to find a targeting character to focus the main light on. The fact I do not have nearly any knowledge as I didn't really watch any of the movies or played any games or read any comics, an old friend gave me some insight from his understanding as he is a more seasoned fan and avid fanfic enjoyer.
Your idea gave me the push to actually take it and make do something of it even though my knowledge is rather limited to a few fanfics and my friend's descriptions, so the thanks Is to you. I hope you'd enjoy my work and perhaps we could collab in the future again for more ideas, but we will see about that lol.
I would however greatly appreciate getting any advice on characterization of specific characters, starting from tim himself specifically during his time as robin and whatever mentions and snippets of him prior to this role, all the way to characters like jason who I truly find the hardest "getting into the head of". Feel free to dm me for our Discord if you find it necessary, or just tumblr dms. Of course I will be doing my own research, but considering I'd like to start working before my motivation suddenly reach a crash, i don't believe i could read all comics involving him with fully sound mind and clear focus without losing my focus at some point, and some outside perspective could be very nice. Don't feel pressured for it though, I could manage myself without it too.
I hope to give a new insight, but of course this should go without saying every system exists and experience differently, so it might not seem accurate to the vision of some.

Tim Drake has Dissociative Identity Disorder AU
His alters’ purposes are Socialite, Assassin, & Robin.
- Tim has been dissociating since his parents started abandoning him. At some point, trauma-induced dissociation becomes so common that an alter develops to be present and help the body survive while the oldest alter (or “original”) cannot.
- Oddly enough, the Assassin (he/they) was the first alter to develop; though, originally they were nicknamed ‘Good Son’ because “Good sons aren’t seen or heard unless they’re needed, Timothy.” Tim’s mind was not equipped to handle feeling so abandoned even as his parents stood right in front of him. Tim would dissociate rather than cry or process; if he wasn’t to exist when unneeded, then he wouldn’t. Good Son trained in stealth to ensure the Drakes never saw him unless they had need of him. They’re the alter that perfected the system’s stealth to the point that not even the Dynamic Duo noticed their presence. Good Son developed into Assassin after training with Lady Shiva.
- Socialite (he/they) was next to develop. Where Good Son went unseen and unheard to please their parents, Socialite was created to do the exact opposite for the same result. Socialite was to recount evidence of his intellect like a show pony doing tricks but he “-musn’t boast, Timothy, it’s unbecoming!” Socialite was to allow any and all cheek-pinching regardless of consent because “She’s just an old lady, Timothy! I’m really so sorry madame-” Socialite was to learn every last rule of high society (spoken or unspoken), gather useful gossip for his mother, network and play nice with the snobby rich kids, and avoid the “riff-raff” whose differences outweighed their usefulness.
- Robin (he/she/they) was the last to develop, keeping the system’s body tethered to a consciousness when the others would dissociate from the horror of Gotham’s many atrocities. Robin handles the worst of the detective work for the same reason. They’re who Ra’s al Ghul would dub the Detective.
- P.S. if anyone writes this, please give the altars better names; from what I’ve seen, alters practically always have names beyond their title/category. Also please send me a link and/or tag me in your work because I’d love to see it!

thinking about compiling screenshots of golden/silver age batman exclusively calling dick his ward to combat the allegations that it was “initially a father-child relationship”
#dc#batman#brudick#i don’t even ship it#i think i'm still mad at the poll when people were trying to refute the brudick points#by saying shippers are also biased and ignoring the history and that it really was a familial relationship early on#me the only asshole on this website enough of dumbass to try to read early batman “no it fucking wasn't”#if you hate the ship fine but don't back up your argument with complete lies#the pro-brudick camp has receipts which gives them way more validity than the haters#i'm sure somewhere out there there's dick grayson pre-crisis saying bruce is like a father to him#there's so many comics and i've barely scratched the surface#but i did read both the first golden age compilation book of batman and silver age world's finest compilation#and neither of them say anything like that#and no “his ward dick grayson” is how he's called constantly it's one of the stock phrases in the ever present narration#early comics fundamentally didn't understand they were a visual medium and are full of very tedious and unnecessary text panels#and to be fair each issue needed to function as an intro to someone who had never heard of batman and robin before so#“and his ward dick grayson”#every damn time#their relationship was adult man and his plucky kid sidekick he inexplicably hangs out with#which doesn't make sense and doesn't parallel to real life real social interaction#but neither does a man going in a batsuit to fight crime#and the out-of-universe explanation is because this comic was aimed at kids who were supposed to project onto dick grayson#and the kids want to be batman's kid-partner not his kid-son#it's not that complicated this trope still exists today#kid who should not be here but is because it's a kids' show/book/movie/etc#i stg i'm gonna become a brudick shipper out of spite at this point#and WHILE I'M COMPLAINING i am also going to be mad at the people who get all up-in-arms#about all the evil heroes doing child endangerment on their poor abused sidekicks#should there be kid heroes? no but cape comics would suck without them so stop complaining and enjoy yourselves#RL vigilantism is also always bad stop bringing real world standards into this they don't apply

Did you get to read the new deadpool book? If so what did you thought of it? :D
I know not everyone feels this way about it, but I am absolutely enjoying it so far! Some very general comments:
❧ It's so so nice that we've figured out what to do with Ellie again. I love that Ellie is a real player in the story. I love that we're including the Prestons in a way that suggests they'll continue hanging around (they all get a pretty solid re-introduction!). "Bet [Wade] gave you that whole 'I don't want to ruin you' spiel" UGH, it's good to have someone to call his ass out.
❧ I always appreciate a series that spends a lot of time on Wade's interiority and can meaningfully balance what he's saying, what he's thinking, and the different ways he acts around different people. He's funny and off the wall, he's self-destructive and prone to depression, he tries to manage himself around Ellie and Princess; he feels like a person.
❧ It's always a treat to have a Deadpool run that doesn't immediately try to give itself a complete "fresh start" from the previous run(s). I know a lot of people are disappointed that he's no longer with Valentine (I feel this--I love Valentine, and it's so rare and special to have a character like them), but he still has Princess with him and has mentioned Valentine in every issue so far, which is more than, for instance, the previous run did for Elsa and monster Staten island. For perspective, this is more than almost any Deadpool run has done in its first few issues for any other Deadpool run. I expect love interests in comics to kind of just disappear sometimes between runs, and that can suck, but Valentine happened, we will always have that, they can always return (in this run or another), and this run is at least actively reaffirming the fact that they happened and how much that mattered to Wade. In comic book terms, all context considered, I am happy to call this a win, and I'm open to seeing what happens in the space this run makes for itself and evaluating it on its own merits the same way I was for the last.
❧ I have so many thoughts on exactly why it's wonderful to have Taskmaster here and why his history with Deadpool makes some of the little details here extra good.
❧ And speaking of new Deadpool comics... I highly, highly recommend Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII to everyone that hasn't checked it out yet. Joe Kelly is back at it. I suspect this will end up being a favorite.
#I think a thing happens in comics sometimes where you start holding standards for new comics that you didn't hold for comics you started on#And when a new issue comes out; you have to look for every single thing that one single issue *didn't* do#As if that one single issue was supposed to rehash every high point that character has ever had#As if the other runs you read all had all of their highest points in their first issue#And eventually you almost just can't like anything#It's much more satisfying to look at what an issue *did* do#And not *immediately* compare the first issue of a new series to the climactic high point of your favorite run#Not that anyone is obligated to like or even give anything a chance ever really; but just thinking about that a lot lately#Ziglar joined the table of Deadpool writers with a lot of respect and I want to see what he does!!#I am here to have a good time and feel some things#Wade Wilson#Deadpool (2024)#Anon#Deadpool#Responses#Oh Sea#Marvel#Comics#Meta#Kind of#Valentine Vuong#Ellie Camacho

ive mentioned before my like. fascination and incomprehensible attachment to mysterious ambiguously brown man characters in schlocky fantasy romance media marketed towards women and a lot of it is from like, a like. nearly anthropological standpoint as someone heavily interested in orientalism in narrative media from a visual culture and art historical point of view and a part of it is also from being mixed race and ambiguous IRL LOL BUT there is one other angle i havent really touched on thats on my mind a lot. you know that bit we all go through where someone reads something like mediocre and it sticks in their mind more than something well written? the "I COULD FIX THISSSS" curse..... im like this with ambiguously brown characters. holds loosely (LOOSELY) south asian coded love interest from some romance comic #8997485344534984875943 tenderly in my hands..... my brother i know you weren't written with this depth but i know the truth. i know about your complexities as you navigate this fantasy europe as a racialized man. i know your truth
#sorry im reading another villainess manhwa. its pretty good - villainess's stationary store or whatever the full name is#like the kids are adorable the main character is hilarious and its a fun comic. the comedy in it in general is some of the best#ive seen in a long strip comic for a while especially with how they play with the format#the characters are all great. but i am. of course. specifically obsessed with isaac#main love interest who doesnt even show up meet up with the mc for the first third.... talk about a slow burn#but i love him he is a normal man with something slightly wrong with him. black coffee with a single blueberry shot type of guy#BUT also his design is pretty south asian coded which is a welcome surprise in general but like. you know me. sees one cartoon brown guy#south asian brother??? west asian friend? southest asian bestie??? north african pal?? maybe even carribean family?????#(in the tone of new shoes? are those puppies new?) brown king? brown king? is that a brown king?#SURPRISINGLY they did actually point out how like. much he stands out in the cast like once or twice#but you know ive already grabbed him and put way more layers on him than he actually has. like unconciously LOL#kids loving him vs societal views of him... his success as like the Biggest Wizard vs him as a very visible minority#only in my minds eye as i read. but thats okay. sometimes thats what happens when you read enough pulpy genre fiction as i do <3

Man. I'm too old for ship fighting/discourse. I ain't 16 anymore, dunno how these ppl manage to remain so stagnated mentally cause you'd expect they'd outgrow this kinda thing.
#Being witness to the kind of behaviour I've seen is crazy. Imagine spending 18+ hours of your time spamming on Twitter ppl to complain about#A mini series of comics that haven't even been published yet just because you can't stand the thought of two characters interacting togethe#And disguising it by screaming 'sexism' 'objectification' and what not#Y'all are deeply troubled people who've been Literally harassing a published writer to the point he had to write#A tweet about how ppl who hate comics they haven't read won't remember it but that those who did and loved it will.#This fandom is overpopulated by adults acting like toddlers shitting and pissing their pants over not being pandered to 24/7#Cry me a river.#Vent#Rant#X Men#X Men savage lands#She loved Erik. She made love to him. She had his child in multiple timelines. She loved multiple men in her life and it was beautiful.#I hope the knowledge that she isn't just a sacrificial virgin on the altar of Your sexism makes you throw up and have nightmares.#Rogue#anna marie darkholme#Anna Marie x men#Ship discourse

hello, love your blog! it’s so fucking funny how you’re a lesbian motogp blogger who is into buffy, bc hey that’s me too but actually I first encountered your blog bc of your smallville posts. not to mention tennis (which I was only a very casual fan of thankfully afdhjkk)…….cool to know that there are several ppl like this apparently sgfhhjhjk.
anyways, buffy s6 is my beloved season and I like it for how dysfunctional it is. the only season I might like more is maybe s5. I am a spike fucker unforch
and as for motogp? sachsenring 2003 made me giggle. very embarrassing for you valentino. by 0.06 seconds??? and commentators made it worse by crowning him a winner before they even crossed the line. you just know if positions were reversed vale would capitalize so hard off this win, more ppl would be talking about it still. and well he did actually use that loss to reinvigorate himself. like valentino’s ability to make his wins (and losses too) narratively important is unparalleled. but regardless sete/vale rivalry is insane,
sadly only hot girls get it:(((
anon?? marry me??
such an incredibly funny overlap of interests sdfhjkdf well always nice to learn this is a Type Of Person who Exists. I love buffy season five!! I am very much a spike fucker!! undoubtedly one of THE great characters, him and buffy is one of those ships where I don't really seek out fics because it's like?? I'm actually thrilled with what canon gave me!! I love the slapstick, spike as a lovesick freak, the dark and toxic stuff where buffy used him as a way to punish herself, and all the more melancholic season 7 stuff where they found refuge in each other. spike is like. such a great Device to explore all kinds of emotions and themes and all that... so many of my all time fave eps are very much spike eps. love s2's school hard and halloween, s3's lovers walk, s4's something blue (also just like, so much of his s4 scenes, when they chain him up in the bathtub and against the chair and all that), s5's fool for love (!!!!!!!!!!!!! one of THE episodes, his 'death wish' monologue to buffy and then showing up wanting to kill her and ending up comforting her oh GOD), s6's life serial and doublemeat palace AND when buffy confesses to spike she was in heaven AND all their scenes in once more, with feeling, s7 the buffy/spike church scene.... spike's "all these years and there's only one thing I've ever been sure of" speech likeeeeee.... I get all the issues people have with that relationship and how it was written, I know it's not for everyone, and I don't even 'ship' them in the sense of thinking they belong together or whatever... but I just love it!! it compels me so much, did so when I first saw it and still does now!! and spike is such a FUN character, like they let him be pathetic, they let him be cool, and he's #gender enough that yeah he's very hot to me too. all those scenes where buffy's throwing him around,,,,, yes character of all time. just has a real place in my heart too idk like the emotional landscape really GETS me
sharp pivot to sachsenring 2003, which takes place a mere few months after the buffy finale......... that's as smooth a transition as I can manage yeah. thematic overlap between btvs and motogp question mark. the buffy x dawn dynamic is either a bit marc x alex or to a lesser extent vale x luca when u think about it? not just in the 'congrats you've spotted they're siblings' way, but well the siblings' respective statuses in the worlds of motogp & vampire slaying, and the older sibling often being 'prioritised' because they have a lot on their plates, younger siblings as a kind of way to keep them grounded and feeling human, also unconditional devotion to your younger sibling... plus actually all the death wish stuff, surely? the fool for love speech...
btvs and motogp both very much about the ties you need to the world, I reckon... also sports is inherently adjacent to chosen one narratives
ANYWAY sachsenring 2003, I think every detail about it is perfect!! whatever valentino says, I still reckon there's just no way he couldn't have made a move before that - and implicitly he acknowledges that by saying he will never leave it that late again. idk there's just something so deeply charming about that specific flavour of valentino to me, where he's so obnoxiously good he can get away a little bit with basically scripting his races BUT obviously that's only okay when he still ends up being the one who wins. and he gets so much shit for it!! it's so funny listening to the brno commentary like they are on his ASS and they're saying the italian press has been on his ASS and calling him washed and finished and even the commentary is going 'yeah he's been having a rough season' and it's very??
oh no! the horror!! what a flop!!
obviously in retrospect we remember it as a great season because after that he only lost one more race, but back then they didn't know that!! and at like. the perfect time of the season too, because obviously that's when you have to go off and Sit On It for the whole summer break and can't immediately redeem yourself.... but as you say, he used that!! it's part of his story now, it became such good fuel for motivation. like, the mistake itself is kinda.... I mean it's not great, but it's one of those things that also wouldn't be a massive issue if you did it five laps earlier? he basically just picks too defensive a line that ends up killing his drive out of the corner, allowing sete to beat him to the line. which - the bit that I imagine really got to him is how dumb it was. like it wasn't a riding mistake as much as it was a decision making mistake, it wasn't his race craft it was just a literal dumbass moment. it's silly!! it's both a moment that shows valentino was maybe a bit too cocky, but also kinda rattled by sete? that man got to him! he did it! he flapped the unflappable valentino rossi!
and it IS incredible how it's now not really Discussed any more, and in his autobiography it's so neatly integrated into his own narrative. like!! it's always the laguna 2008 and catalunya 2009 performances that get me - he knew those were going to be memorable victories IMMEDIATELY and he played to that!! kissing the corkscrew drives me insane because it's literally... he's doing this on the cooldown lap for something that happened LAP FOUR and wasn't technically the race winning move, or definitely not the only one!! but he immediately zeroed in on that element and his post-race narrative is unquestionably ONE of the reasons why that's something we all remember now. he gets it!!
the commentators did fuck him over though lmaoooo... I mean at least you have to say he learned from his mistakes. imagine losing a race by .06 and doing this in the very next race against the same guy
bringing back this too
sicko
it IS only the hot girls who get it but that's for the best....... only the select few can see the vision I fear
#faith/buffy is the one where I check the fic tag and get irritable about how it's not quite what I'm looking for#spike/buffy is the one where I stare into the middle distance turning it around in my head and then watch a bunch of fanvids#like faith/buffy is kinda.... the base dynamic is so great and also the post canon potential (ignore comics) is SO on point#and also because it's that fun dynamic where genuinely if they'd gotten together in canon it wouldn't have fixed shit?#but there's still so much More places you could go there... like they need to be put into situations yeah#whereas spike/buffy is like... wow. canon sure did explore that. I don't know what I'd WANT from fic#I like the IDEA that they can find each other again but I'm not even sure I really want to read about it happening#and of course weird spike/faith and spike/buffy/faith situations is what it's all about. like they're both so obsessed with her!!#that scene where faith in buffy's body is the first person to clock that spike is into buffy and then flirts with him... groundbreaking#//#brr brr#batsplat responds#crying i feel like getting to this blog via smallville and also being into motogp feels... so unlikely. congrats anon

About 400 words written today -- still in Read Book mode today but hit the point where the books were driving me crazy and I remembered why I was two books behind on this series, which I've been doing a full reread of. I am now one book behind on this series but hey. I probably do need a change of pace after going through seven books in three days. (And I went through the first five books last month and had to take a break because because those are the five that were written before the series went off the rails in what is, frankly, one of the most blatant bait-and-switches I've ever seen and which I really resent as a reader. Though obviously I kept reading.)
#daily fic snippet#author I used to like a lot and who now makes me crazed#you can sometimes tell when an author comes out of fandom and specifically what fandom they come out of#this is one of those times#and yes this is an author I've been reading for well over a decade!#so like. I recognize when they go off the rails. their two other long-running series do this too#it's just REALLY blatant in this one#I think it is in one of their other series too but I stopped reading that one even EARLIER and haven't felt inclined to do a full reread ye#which I would have to do in order to catch up because after a certain point a long-running series begins to collapse under the weight of it#own internal mythology. yeah I can tell this author came out of comics fandom.#I haven't kept up with them in a while but did want to catch up on two of their series#which also you know. makes me remember why I stopped

prev post is sort-of the thesis of very good webcomic “what happens next” which you should read right now although do very much pay attention to the content warnings. thank you
#i read the whole thing in like 3 hours the other day and i keep thinking abt it#i mean its not over its still updating. btw#but anyway its very interesting to like…..#look at the comments and see people doing pretty much the stuff that the comic is criticizing/is The Point of it#its not black and white! no one is Terrible And Unforgivable bc they did something bad and are still not handling it Perfectly#and there are Sympathetic Things even about people who are Doing Harm Right Now#and its easy to say ‘i simply would not do that thing rip to them but im different’#but you have the rationality of not actually Being In The Situation!#would you REALLY be an exemplary human being when forced to make choices under incredible amounts of stress? NO!#idk its. its very interesting! more people should read it! and talk about it! BUT IT GETS FUCKING HEAVY.#basilposting

would you guys still like me if i rambled about my cringe crackship
#snap chats#masadai#yeah ill ramble down here im not brave for the main text#see this is my version of a read more the main text is just a warning#anyway main text is semi a lie i am rambling bout masadai but just mostly bout sawashiro cause Shotgun Dad is my favorite#oh im sleep so im going to be even more incomprehensible than normal#like like like like sit here and be delusional with me alright. '95-2000's era right.#jo knows masato- as a civvie- tries to keep outta yakuza shit (with the exception of ichi helpin him at least)#so can you imagine bro having to process the fact now his son's Apparently entangled not just with a yakuza's son but SOHEI'S#bitch ass sohei who get necked and since then his bitch ass son's been going on a bitch ass rampage as a street thug#How The Fuck Did Those Two Happen but w/e. if masato's happy jo'll Begrudgingly not do anything. on the surface.#i know he's already having some poor arakawa grunt tail daigo until dude inevitably notices and beats his ass#and hes def not goin back to sawashiro a failure bro's getting outta town 💀 but yeah point is jo dont exactly have. The Highest Opinion#we all saw my masumi and daigo comic right. we all know i think masumi adopts daigo at some point cause the seeds of that are here#masumi knows whats goin on in his own house he knows jo's being ill so he prob just assures him daigo's not That Bad of a kid#he wouldnt hurt masato anyway. listen if theres a fight he knows his son's starting it He Loves Him but he knows how he is#and daigos way too soft spoken and like. Depressed Rn to really instigate anything unless prompted#either way jo's still edgy- prob isn't too stoked to hear news daigo's in jail after he an aoki get back to japan in '04 either#but no listen there's a turnaround OBVIOUSLY for one thing aoki and daigo could never date nowadays#but now daigos become chairman and ?? he isnt a single thing like sohei and he isn't at all how jo initially thought he'd be#he might make awkward decisions sometimes but considering the cards he's dealt he's not doing TERRIBLE#jo's designated to hang with aoki most of the time anyway so even if he did have any lingering grievances theyre not something to worry bout#too late to give that blessing tho For Starters bro's living a new life now and Secondly he's getting everyone evicted in ten years 💀💀#thats the end of my ramble sorry everyone. if i had more time nd energy to draw nowadays i prob woulda just drawn somethin quick and dummy#but alas. i do not. potentially more text posts to come because of this because i very much am still mentally ill#i love masadai i love making shit up its actually so fun#im bad at writing full on fics so the spark notes version <3 ok im sleeping now bye
