Played D-Ezel today for this week’s shop tournament (we did another fun/casual deck day), went 2-1 (won vs G4 Kairi and Zorga Masques, lost vs Unica Masques), and boy that felt like a huge shift from Majesty Lord Blaster. Sure the deck is fun, the Superior Ride up is also fun, but the deck feels like it’s missing ~something.

Cut for me rambling about Ezel, because him and I have always been on slightly awkward terms ever since I played him in Zero (vs me with Liberators, both Break Ride and Legion, we got along great). It’s like I’ve always had to actively try to make him work for me vs all of Aichi’s Blaster decks that I just pick up and immediately understand the flow of the deck without really needing to try.

EDIT: Gave it a bit more thought, realized what was missing - there’s no pressure in the Vanguard column. Nothing to help you get over a defensive, even if you boost - your G1s are 8ks, unless you somehow made room for Wayward Therapy Angel or Languedechat. I had one Vanguard swing effectively fizzle because I didn’t see Persona Ride and my opponent was like “I won’t have enough to guard the rear guard columns if I guarded Vanguard, so no guard, 1 to pass it is” after checking a defensive, and I didn’t check a trigger. So yeah definitely need the promo (for the red text skill) and/or Platina/Grand Ezel Scissors to release so we can get something for Vanguard swing, because Ezel doesn’t gain power off of the units he Superior Calls from deck off of his skill anymore, and that means a single defensive really just shuts down your entire turn if you don’t manage to check a trigger or Persona Ride.

Functionally, the deck is straightforward and plays as you’d expect for a Blond Ezel deck - Superior Ride up to put on a lot of pressure, push with a rush until your opponent Rides into G3, and then it’s full on rapid fire 5-attacks/per turn (as long as you have the CB and you should because it’s only 1 CB for the skill and you have a reasonably accessible Counter Charger in Dindrane). You don’t really deck thin though because Dindrane puts the rear guard in front of her to bottom deck to restand, but at the same time this means you don’t run the risk of decking out super fast because you’re too busy Superior Calling off Top 3-7 to multi-attack. She’s definitely the MVP of the deck as she opens up your RCs so you’re not overcalling off of Ezel’s on attack skill while also adding power to both sets of rear guard swings. (Plus she’s put any rear guard back into deck so if you really want to you can put back triggers too.)

The main problems I see with the deck is that it feels the same way it did as I when I played it in Vanguard Zero - you do the Superior Ride, you’re on G3, and then it feels like a bit of a Now What. Because the deck just sort of … does what it does, you just swing for 5 turns every turn (6 if you run Red Cray Elemental OT and drive check it) and if that means you push your opponent to 6, great, and if not, well, you sent those cards back to deck and now it’s time to Struggle Guard And Pray You See Another Turn To Do It All Over Again. The numbers are respectable (8k for Dindrane plus usually 10-13k for the rear guard in front depending on what you high rolled into sans Persona Ride, 15k if it’s Beaumains), you definitely get to Superior Call a lot more from deck to field, but it just feels like after you (Superior) Ride into G3 there’s a bit of a lull until your opponent catches up to you. It’s really easy to set up the optimal board of Ezel on VC and a Dindrane in back row of both flanking rear guard columns (you call from top 3-7 enough to make it happen unless you just get super unlucky), but it feels like there’s something missing to give the deck a little extra oomph for a winning turn, because otherwise your turn is just … Ezel start of Ride phase skill, Persona Ride (if you have it), play the Order (if you have it), go into Battle Phase, attack with both rear columns (using Dindrane to return your front row back into deck to restand), Ezel attacks and uses skill, Superior Call 2 out of Top 7, swing with both rear guard columns again (and have Dindrane send them back, because for whatever reason, she’s not a 1/Turn), rinse and repeat until you land lethal or you lose (because you don’t have that much draw power - or at least, I didn’t because I somehow see Silver Fang Witch really rarely off of my Top 3-7).

It’s like Chronojet (because you do have something of a resource loop with Dindrane/Silver Fang Witch/Sajess and/or Drilling Angel) but less reliable, because you don’t actually get to automatically see Dindrane/Silver Fang Witch consistently to keep the Soul/CB/CC loop going, so you just awkwardly loop those cards and pray. Kind of. I will say that Athaltus (the promo that just released in Japan) does fix some of the deck’s problems, especially the part where if you don’t Persona Ride you don’t really get high enough numbers for Turn 4+ and also helps you “save” your Dindranes from decks that can target back row (I did run into this issue vs Unica Masques when I had to Soul Charge both of them). But the deck just feels very … lackluster? Despite being a guaranteed 5 attack deck with ways to avoid deck out (and the ability to loop your pieces)? Especially with the state of the current meta, I feel like just “Oh I get to reset both rear guard columns” isn’t really enough to put on extra pressure for game, and if we got something like Unite In All But Name it would actually help the deck give it that extra push for more pressure late game. Like maybe if we got Platina Ezel in a future Encounter/Cray Cross Epic set, that’ll be what pushes it into “feels complete”.

In comparison, Majesty Lord Blaster is a 4 attack deck with solid pressure across all 3 columns thanks to Emmeline and Cordiela - Emmeline basically gives both of the boosted rear guard swings Bavsargra-level power, so you can poke with an unboosted attack (I like using Blaster Dark for this), and then force either a PG or a ton of shield value out of your opponent with the Vanguard swing (23k/33k, 2 crit, triple drive), and then swing again with Bavsargra-tier numbers for the follow up rear guard attacks (or more if you did a double Emmeline column - I’ve had guys at locals go “Damn Emmeline columns are scary” after facing my Majesty Lord Blaster deck). And I feel like that’s what’s missing from Ezel right now - the ability to put extra pressure on my opponent via Vanguard attack, and having enough ways to gain power late game (passively or otherwise) to give my deck the push for game (or at least make my opponent drop more cards from hand to guard).

I will say this for Ezel though - at least it’s better than how Majesty Lord Blaster was at release? That was so much praying for promos (that we did eventually get) to make it good.

the way I like to think about it, is that Kaveh and Tighnari have been besties for quite some time already

they met in their Academiya days, got along, and stayed close friends till this day

of course, Tighnari was aware that Kaveh had a younger sibling, though he had never gotten to meet them and to be fair, it wasn't a top priority of his

however, that quickly changed once he saw you for the first time

Tighnari was on his way to pick Kaveh up, knocking on his door and waiting for him to open up. Nothing out of the usual. Except this time, the door was opened by someone he had never seen before

perplexed, he asked to see Kaveh, to which you told him to wait for a second

Kaveh then soon came and the two got going, without Tighnari getting to see you again. Not being able to hold in his curiosity, he questioned Kaveh about it

"What, you mean (Name)? They're my younger sibling. I told you about them, remember?"

He does remember, though he had no recollection of Kaveh telling him just how stunning you really were

over time, it became very obvious that Tighnari has developed a huge crush on you. He comes over to Kaveh's place more often, engaging in conversation with you almost every time he's there, smiling at everything you say... it's so obvious that even Kaveh picks up on the crush his best friend has for his sibling

though he wasn't the biggest fan of it at the start, in his words "It's better if it's you rather than any of these other idiots out there"

so Tighnari at least has the blessing of his best friend to pursue you... though he's not too sure about what to do from here on out

for now, he finds comfort in the fact that he gets to spend time with you and get closer to you over time, without any pressure to it

he begins to invite you to separate hangouts, just the two of you, talking about any and everything you can think of

he brings you small presents, sometimes even flowers that he finds on his patrols through the forests

one time, he invited you to a picnic as he claimed he found a beautiful spot in the forest. There, he made you a flower crown, gently placing it on top of your head

he still remembers that day fondly, the shy smile that you had, the slight blush on your cheeks.. the image is permanently engraved in his mind

Cyno

Cyno isn't exactly best friends with Kaveh like Tighnari is, but they still are friends and hang out regularely

I like to think that those two met each other through Tighnari, and although it was a bit awkward at first, they began to bond over TCG faster than expected

soon enough, they would play together on a regular basis, getting to know each other better and better, with Cyno almost always cracking one of his god awful jokes, but everyone just bares with it

over the course of their developing friendship, they get to know more about each others lifes, which is also how Cyno first learns that Kaveh has a younger sibling, still enrolled in the Academiya

feeling intrigued, Cyno wants to know what kind of person his younger sibling would be, so he sets out on a mini "mission" to find out more about you

he learns pretty quickly that you're one of the top students in your Darshan, adored by teachers and other scholars

and he understands why that is immediately after he first meets you in person. Your kind and easygoing personality just draws people in, promising them a fun time if they were to hang out with you. You did also have a thing to be a bit too dramatic, much like your brother, but it wasn't as intense if compared to him

however, your first interaction with Cyno was stiff and awkward, seeing as you were scared because of his position, thinking that he was conducting some kind of investigation on you

after Cyno cleared up the misunderstanding, you noticably relaxed around him, smiling from time to time, even though you were still a little on edge around him

and somehow, that shy demeanor of yours is what drew him in even more, letting him fall head over heels for you

after that, it seemed like you were running into the General Mahamatra a lot more frequently. You couldn't help but think that all those 'incidental' encounters weren't so random to begin with

but nonetheless, you began to enjoy the interactions you had with Cyno. He was actually a pretty easy person to get along with, if you can ignore the icecold glares he throws at people every now and then

he often tries to lighten the mood with some of his jokes. And even if not all of them were good, you did let out a chuckle every now and then when he told a rather good one. Those small laughs would always make him feel proud on the inside, like he accomplished a great feat by making you laugh with his jokes

Kaveh, on the other hand, seemed to be oblivious about the thing the two of you had going on, until one day, you mentioned Cyno in conversation with him

your brother began questioning you about your interactions, quickly gaining a picture about what was going on

he went to confront Cyno about it the next day. It didn't escalate into a full blown argument, but can you really blame him? He's just a brother, trying to look out for his younger sibling!

First, some context.

Jimmy knows who the new hermits are. he said this in one of his Chunklock streams a WHILE ago, but I kinda thought he was joking. but he reconfirmed it in his current stream, with the cheekiest grin. now why would he know that....

also, Pearl said she had an important Minecraft recording that she had to cut her stream early for at 7 am Australian time, and based on Doc tweets, this seems to be the first HC 10 recording. Currently, Jimmy, Martyn, FWhip, Sausage, HBomb, and Scott are streaming, and they might not still be streaming till then, but if they were the new hermits they probably wouldn't be streaming right now. That leaves the two most hyped potential new guys: Skizz and Joel.

another VERY interesting tidbit of information: In Tango's patreon discord server, Cleo said that if the new hermits had TCG cards, they'd be Balanced/Builder and Balanced.

Skizz first. He would probably be the Balanced type. I don't really need to get into him being friends with so many hermits, we all know it.

However, I will say, after the last Imp and Skizz episode where Skizz talked about not having enough time to do anything I do think he isn't going to be in HC 10 unfortunately. It seems like it won't be in the cards until he goes full-time content creation. Also, Doc said the new hermits didn't know him that well, and while Skizz isn't like besties with him or anything he's been in his circle long enough to know him at least a little bit.

But what about Joel?

Balanced/Builder DEFINITELY fits Joel to a T. While his content is focused on building, he's also good at PVP and is a prankster, making him balanced. He's also close with hermits blah blah blah but here's some more EVIDENCE (actually just wild speculation). Why would Jimmy know about this? Yeah, he's close with Grian, but still. Maybe because he, Grian, and Joel came back from their trip yesterday, and the recording was today because it was the earliest possible time for it to happen for all hermits to be there, and Jimmy was filled in on this. It also explains why Jimmy seems so excited about knowing the new hermits to the point he's spoken about it twice. Obviously, he would be excited for his friend.

Duel Links Re-Translation Mod Project (Announcement post I guess?) - Dark Yugi In-Duel Line Re-Translation Test (WIP)

So. For the longest, I've been hella curious to figure out where the text for Duel Links is in the file assets, the in-duel lines in particular--as I'm sure most folks know, the English dubtitle text applied for the English dialogue is, nine times out of ten, inaccurate or decently simplified vs the Japanese audio played on the same line, and it's a bit wild that we still don't have a second English option for a more faithful take this long after Konami gave us the Japanese voices natively on Steam and made modding the game to get them a thing of the past. But for all my occasional searching through the files, I had little luck due to encryption and junk; at some point in September, I got curious and did more digging and was able to find some card text, at least, but nowhere near as much as is in the game now, and still no dialogue lines.

And then, 2-3 weeks ago, I saw that Aura (Octomaidly over on Twitter, part of @entamesubs handling Studio Bridge-era YGO fansubs for SEVENS+) had been working with a couple of folks to decrypt and re-translate the in-duel lines for SEVENS characters and came across her video on Twitter sharing her progress; I immediately reached out to find out how they're doing it and mentioned how I'd like to try and re-translate pre-SEVENS stuff, lol. (You can watch her latest video demoing her re-translation for GO RUSH world here; find her work as it develops on the NexusMods page for it.)

After connecting with Aura and the folks helping her and getting set up to work on things, I set up a quick re-translation for Dark Yugi's lines, had it all imported for a test-run, and recorded this demo test vs Kaiba to see 'em in action; I did fix a few things since recording this, like some line breaks here/there, but also fixed the one mention of "Dark Magician" in the cut-in shot since this was a test of my OCG-name translation (more on that below) and thus "Black Magician" should've been there--but all told, it looks pretty good overall!

All that to say that this is now another lil' project on my list 😅 It's very cool that this is finally doable and I'm looking forward to working with Aura and co to make it happen--though do note that it'll be at a bit of a slower pace since work on my finalized GX subs (currently revision work on 117-119 is underway) and Tag Force Special is a bit higher priority. That said, the nice thing is that working on in-duel lines in TFSP kinda does half my work for me here, lol; maybe half of Dark Yugi's lines, for example, are recycled verbatim from TFSP--the only difference being that Shunsuke Kazama is actually voicing him--with the rest being lines newly added for him in DL, from lines for dueling other characters to cards he didn't have lines for in TFSP, and this should be the case across the board for anyone who showed up in TF[SP].

My intention is also to work on two translations: one with OCG card names and one with the TCG names, as we're doing with TFSP, and I'll be starting this off by working on the first five characters from each series that appeared in TFSP, since that's how I'm working on the story events there (so for DM, working on Dark Yugi, Kaiba, Jounouchi, Ishizu, and Mai first), and then once done through VRAINS, that might probably be the first version of the mod I'd release. Or maybe I'll release a version as I get each set of five done; we'll see lol. I do plan to contribute my translations to Aura's project, as well. (Also we just recently dug up event dialogue text so those will be re-translatable, too; doing this for the older series' events that likely won't get reruns will at least be worth it since you can spend Gems to get those event scenes)

But overall, it's pretty encouraging--stay tuned!

If I could make one of my head cannons about the cosmere real it's that Hoid, being an insanely old coot with way too much time on his hands, has made a magic the gathering type tcg game with real historical characters throughout the cosmere, and has just been handing them out, and trying to get the royals of different worlds to play it to expand its popularity. (Each magic system would almost function like it's own color, kinda. In a broader space age time they function as a color, but at least in the begining Hoid doesn't really bring other systems cards to that system, and each color is almost it's own version, which can be used against other versions).

Had a cosmere dream one time that Hoid accidently dropped a Scadrian card on Roshar, specificly Marsh's "Old Iron Eyes" card. A Rosharan picks it up and thinks it's kind weird cause he plays the Rosharan version, and he can't find a way to summon this card cause he doesn't have any of the cost requirements. And then he runs into Marsh and recognizes him from the card, and that's how he becomes cosmere aware.

Yes I want 9 Kings from Lightbringer in the cosmere. I suppose Percy Jackson's Mythomagic would be a good example as well but I feel like that's different.

Why scrap OTJ after math and not try some other new small set aimed only at standard? Aftermath had a ton of problems but I honestly think the biggest one was it being very aimed at commander. And having one uncommon and one mythic playable in standard in any serious competitive deck when the product claimed 3 different times in its announcement article that it was aimed at standard. I think versions of aftermath could have worked it they were more deck building focused small sets aimed at competitive play that needs 4 copies of each card in the deck. Othe tcgs do products like aftermath that are hits, magics first attempt at a product like that was...... kinda missing the point of products like that.

It’s the worst reaction we’ve ever gotten to a product since market research started measuring it. When enough players react that negatively to something, you move on. Even if there’s potential with the idea, the product concept is tainted, at least for the immediate future,

Of course, for this actual playable card version, they took the time to edit their gun quite nicely, even if the future gun color scheme does look a little silly with their outfit. The anime version of this guy summoned to the field however, had me howling with laughter because of how their gun looks. It literally looks like they just photoshopped an emoji over it. Anyway, the silly purple and gold radar gun does technically still fit with their flavor text, so this edit is probably the least conspicuous one I've seen so far. Gun aside, this guy’s outfit says "soldier" to a point, but beyond the sci fi helmet and armor, they kinda just look like a super geared up exterminator. Which I guess they kinda are. I do appreciate how the red amoeba background fits the science AND exterminator themes going on here.

let me give examples.

-italy bros are at the least gonna hit 2000 soon. Both are bumbling idiots who are more here to have a good time then anything. I'm convinced they're stronger then they make themselves to be (they caught England with a hole. Yes he dropepd in there but how did they get him into the cell? Venezianobbeat up Turkey once, too, and i think that was when turkey was stronger....and if you think about it, veneziano pretending to be an idiot means he can get away with everything. Literally. Even if he sneaks into a meeting room, him yelling about pasta is enogh to make the others go "ah hes at it again"

-China lmand the maid dress cosplay. Enough said.

-the Nordics, who are all over a thousnad and most are prob older. Denmark doesn't give a shit anymore, Norway goes along with everything becauae why not it's entertainment, Sweden is a memelord. Finland is probably a bit younger so he's a little more grounded, and so is Iceland- they follow the rest but i think they haave a bit more sense of not letting time just go by completely. -America and Canada are young and you can see it- they try to fit in with the rest but over or underdo it and are surprised at things like weekends passing by in a blink of an eye. Germany too, the three of them are babies and just don't quite get the joke sometimes, not for lack of trying.

-England is also up there and i mean. England and his brothers made up English TCG pokemon whatever

-france has long since accepted the idea of being a free spirit. He exists and contemplates and does his thing, knowing time will pass and he might as well try to do the little he can.

-we all know russia was hit one too many times by General Winter. Ukraine surprisingly seems to have her head, but Belarus definitely let the age get to her....just a little. I have a bet she's spent so long chasing Russia she doesn't really know how to stop.

-japan is also pretty old but he is an outlier as far as im concerned becauae this man is a boomer whose besties are a bunch of gen Zs and he might as well be one of them. i think he's done better at the aging thing at least.

Arataki Gang Hcs

• I head-canon that the Arataki Gang all live / constantly visit Granny Oni. Like her house is pretty much their hideout

• Granny probably makes them snacks while they’re beetle fighting

• Granny Oni definitely loves Kuki like a daughter

• They started getting in trouble with the tenryou commission on accident but now they’re kinda’ trying to annoy them on purpose.

Geo Aether can be a bit more blunt (heh) as well as focused. Tends to be a little more imposing.

Electro Aether takes the least amount of bullshit and less forgiving temperament. Not the biggest fan of being looked down on and ready to put someone in their place.

Dendro Aether holds the most outward joy. Someone might mistake him for some kind of fairy or spirit when he’s playing with Aranara. Pretty reckless yet adept.

Hyrdo Aether is calm and pretty resilient. Kinda emotional but fairly good at keeping it in check. Fairly easy to agitate in comparison to the rest aside from Electro. Empathetic from all the emotional people and it kinda stinks.

Is awake more than he sleeps but also known for having many napping spots.

Questionable choice in men some would say.
