This is where the disconnect is between them. Because Shun truly sees himself as showing love and care for Asuka by doing this. He is trying to encourage him to better himself, to be the best version of himself, and to live up to the ideal version of himself that he can be.

While Asuka is just trying his best. He's working hard, he's doing what he can, he's clinging to so many wishes. Asuka is doing his best and what he keeps running up against is that his best is never, ever enough for Shun. Nothing he does is enough or gets him what he wants, what he feels he needs, which is the romantic side of their relationship.

Ever watched two people say the exact opposite thing but meaning, in a lot of ways, the same thing? Shun wants to see Asuka do better and thinks that holding him to this lofty goal will bring him up to where he needs to be while Asuka is just desperately searching for any way to feel like he has his support and love.

This is what happens when two people who express their love very differently find themselves in a relationship with poor communication. Neither of them hears what the other person is saying because it's all filtered through their point of view.

Shun wants Asuka to be successful and to be do well. Asuka wants to feel loved and important to Shun. His needs from their relationship are very different than Shun's but neither of them are communicating with each other so these issues are just... stagnating. Shun has no idea what the issue is and Asuka is scared that any issue will leave him alone again.

I think the biggest problem here is that Asuka meant it while being loved and Shun doesn't show love in a way that makes Asuka feel loved when they're actually in a relationship.

Asuka is so desperate for affection or any hint that they're something and Shun sees all of it as something so basic and so obvious that he doesn't need to show any of it.

Shun is the opposite of Minato in this scenario. Minato feels it all and finds the expression to just be too much to handle while Shun feels at least something but finds it to be something that doesn't need to be expressed because Asuka said he didn't need it.

And while Shin pushes Minato constantly because he is determined to love him and to be loved in return, Asuka is terrified of losing Shun again and so can't ever really speak up for his needs. He also struggles to express his needs in a way that Shun understands while Shin is so clear that Minato never had any doubts.

Shun really does care. He is in this relationship as well. He tells Shin they're in a relationship. He knows that he's in a relationship. But how he prioritizes is so different from how Asuka does that it makes it hard for them to see their love reflected in the other person.

(Asuka is much more clear, of course, but Shun is there. Shun wants that date as well. He wants this relationship and he is showing Asuka in his own way... which just isn't meeting Asuka's needs. Oh, this pairing is so fascinating because what happens when two people with vastly different romantic needs try to form a relationship? I mean, in real life, it typically ends badly. And this is Japanese BL... but it's still BL. @absolutebl I can't decide how much I trust them with this side pairing.)

This entire exchange, from Asuka bemoaning his struggle with communication to snapping out of a frustration he knows has nothing to do with Shin to his regret afterwards is such a perfect illustration and exploration of how much Asuka is struggling in the situation he's trying to enjoy.

You can feel it.

He got what he wanted, right? He's next to Shun. He's at his side. But it's not what he imagined and it's not what he needs for as much as it is what he wants and that's just the scariest kind of thing, isn't it? To get what you want only to find out that what you need is different.

Asuka loves Shun. But he also needs love in return and Shun will either learn how to show that love or they will need to separate because Asuka might want to be at Shun's side but he needs more than he can give right now.

Asuka wants to be Shin. He wants to be smitten and in love and to have someone reluctant but just as loving across from him, someone who adores him in return and will give him the love and romance and affection that he desperately craves. But Shun has no idea he's even missing anything because this is his romance. This is his relationship.

Asuka... again, Asuka is struggling to communicate with Shun because what he needs to communicate isn't what he think it is and when he tries to communicate what he thinks he needs to communicate... what comes across is completely different because Shun is on a different wavelength than he is, has different expectations and wants and needs in this and doesn't know what he isn't doing.

I love Shun so much but, again, we are faced with the fact that his idea and understanding and approach to romance is not, at all, related to Asuka's.

One thing I truly find fascinating is that both Shun and Asuka are both actually very comfortable and forward about being in a relationship. There's no hesitation between them to say those words the way Minato scrambles away from any mention of the idea from Shin even in private.

They aren't grappling with the issue of being in a relationship, they're grappling with what that relationship looks like and what it means to them. The relationship isn't the question. It's what being in a relationship is that they have to fight to figure out.

Shin and Minato love each other and are in a relationship that Minato is struggling to be comfortable and open about because his love scares him.

Shun and Asuka are in a relationship but are struggling to figure out what that means at all and what their love even is and how it's shaped.

Shun gives Asuka the tiniest hint of love and Asuka absolutely loses everything he's ever had. The smallest touch, the little bit of eye contact and he loses his shit entirely because he is so used to nothing.

And Shun looks at that and instead of seeing how smitten Asuka is... he sees himself as getting in the way of Asuka's studying. He seems himself as, rather than the positive figure out love, as someone who is preventing Asuka from being the best he can be and the best he wants him to be.

That's the biggest part of this disconnect. Shun wants Asuka to be his best and he is trying to show him love by encouraging him (it's a different kind of love but it is love, I don't doubt that) while Asuka just wants to be with Shun as he keeps trying to tell him.

And this. This moment is so heartbreaking. We see Shin and Minato on their date, dressed up and fitting in and part of the world and then Asuka. Asuka, standing out in different clothing, in a different style, no part of the festival and no part of the romance. He is completely out of the world of love right now. He has found himself isolated and alone and hurting and watching his friend who comes to him with his relationship issues enjoy the date that he worked so hard for but didn't quite reach.

I am actually super excited for next week because by the end of this episode we know that Shun is definitely jealous and that he's hurt and that he does view this relationship as something more serious than he shows to Asuka in his way of showing love.

Asuka is obviously helping a friend and likely just assumed that Shun would never know or, that if he did know, he wouldn't care. After all, didn't they start from a fake relationship that Shun said didn't matter? Why would he change his mind?

But the truth is that they are in a relationship and they do love each other and that is what needs to happen now and needs to be figured out and what they need to communicate each other.

Shun saying he never thought he'd have this kind of feeling is important because this is about Shun and Minato growing into the relationships that Shin and Asuka want and need from them. It's about catching up to the person you love and realizing that, yes, you do need to grow and change with love.

Love is a verb. Love is doing and growing and that matters.

(My Favorite) Queer Characters in Anime

I just wanted to make a compilation of a few of my favorites for no reason. (NOTE: LONG POST!! And fyi I tagged the series/characters mostly.)

Ymir and Historia Reiss (Attack on Titan)

During my very first watch of the anime, I fell in love with these two. I just absolutely adore them and their dynamic. Their relationship was so sweet. Whatever your opinions are on the conclusions to their arcs, there’s no denying these two were incredibly impactful in the story.

Hange Zoe (Attack on Titan)

One of my favorite characters in the series and happens to be somewhere outside of the gender binary. Gotta love them.

Shinji Ikari and Kaworu Nagisa (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

While many people deny it, there’s undeniably romantic feelings between these two. Shinji’s relationship with Kaworu was complicated -- as were all of his relationships -- but it was monumental for his character.

Yuri Katsuki and Victor Nikiforov (Yuri!!! On Ice)

One, Yuri on Ice is incredibly sweet, and two, it was my first anime. Yuri and Victor’s relationship was also monumental for queer male representation outside of BL, so I have to give it some recognition.

Alluka Zoldyck (Hunter x Hunter)

I absolutely adore Alluka -- she’s just so incredibly sweet. I also love how her brother Killua calls out their family for misgendering her and is incredibly supportive.

Langa Hasegawa (Sk8 the Infinity)

While some people believe that Langa’s feelings toward Reki are platonic -- despite Langa stating that he likes him -- I think it’s undeniable that he has quite the crush on him. And awkwardness about these new and strong feelings is incredibly adorable!

Mafuyu Sato (Given)

Not to say I don’t love the other characters from Given, but Mafuyu holds a special place in my heart. Seeing him deal with greif through music all while falling in love with Uenoyama was truly touching.

Yuu Asuka (Stars Align)

I love Stars Align, and I especially loved Yuu. Seeing this anime use terms such as ‘non-binary’ or ‘FtM’ was so incredible, and Maki’s talk with Yuu about gender with very sweet.

Suruga Kanbaru (Monogatari Series)

Definitely a controversial character from a controversial series, but I still love her. While people debate her sexuality, it is explicitly shown that she is attracted to women. She’s weird like everyone else in the series, but she’s complex and incredibly human.

Reo Niiboshi and Mabu Akutsu (Sarazanmai)

From one of the weirdest series I’ve seen comes one of the most interesting and heartbreaking relationships I’ve seen. I loved their song (Kawusoiya) and loved watching more and more about them unfold. Also, they have one of the most explicit declarations of love I’ve seen in a non-BL series, and the show doesn’t shy away from their relationship once.

This movie and manga series was literally so sweet and wholesome. Reading and watching the relationship between these two just makes me smile. I have nothing more to say.

These are my longest rewrites on my list. Some have been sleeping on the back burner of my mind for ages. So, now, I ask you, the readers, which of these you'd like to see first. Because I need to know where to devote regular writing time. Otherwise, I'll just wander over the landscape writing-wise. So.

Targeting A Cold Heart: Akoya x Io x Ryuu: Projected Word Count: 96,000: 32 chapters & 3,000 words per chapter. A tangled triangle of human, angel, and demon that will end up how you expect it and they don't.

Hunting The Hunter: Ruki x Renamon: Projected Word Count: 120,000: 30 chapters & 4,000 words per chapter. Somewhat like canon but also with active magic, shapeshifters, vampires, and other creatures of magic. Someone thinks Ruki is their fated love, but she has other thoughts on the matter. Ruki x Renamon.

Kept In Shadows: Shun, Yuuri: Projected Word Count: 120,000: 20 chapters & 6,000 words per chapter. Yuuri is a vampire. Shun is a shapeshifter. Yuuri likes keeping pretty things close - and hurting. Implied sex, but no actual romances (tenative Yuuto x Shun but not decided yet)

Across The Threshold: Ryou x Mizael: Projected Word Count: 130,000: 26 chapters & 5,000 words per chapter: Mizael the dragon keeps away from most people, and doesn't expect it when a vampire crosses his paths on a mission of his own. Ryou x Mizael.

Shards of Ice: Rio, Rin: Projected Word Count: 148,000: 37 chapters & 4,000 words per chapter. Rio has been a Frostflame for years. Rin is just frosted over. Ice isn't easy to control for one born to fire, but for the sake of Yuugo and the sake of her world, Rin will do what she has to do. Mild Yuugo x Rin, mostly Rio & Rin friendship.

Shards and Sunlight: Asuka x Mizuchi: Projected Word Count: 150,000: 35 chapters & 2,500 words per chapter. Asuka vanished years ago. Fubuki's still looking for her. Meanwhile, in the Barian World, Asuka, Queen of the Barians, searches for the past she can no longer remember, and meets someone she doesn't want to forget. Asuka x Mizuchi.

Keys To The Tower: Durbe x Chris: Projected Word Count: 200,000: 50 chapters & 4,000 words per chapter. In a world of magic, Sir Durbe finds a hidden tower with a sorcerer cursed to remain inside of it. He wants to break the curse, but it's not that easy. And there's a lot that Chris Arclight isn't telling him. Durbe x Chris.

To Frost To Flames: Ryou, OCs: Projected Word Count: 240,000: 40 chapters & an average of 4,000 words per chapter. Ryou is a nascent Firestarter, who ends up kidnapped while a child still. His life isn't in his own hands now - and it's going to be very, very cold. No actual ships but hints of Ryou x Yuusuke.

Eyes of Light: Kouji, Kouichi, Chosen: Projected Word Count: 250,000: 85 chapters & an average of 3,000 words per chapter. A rewrite of Digimon Frontier where Kouji and Kouichi meet just before the trip to the Digital World and end up traveling it together. No actual ships.

Rage, Revenge, & Reprisals: Lucemon, Black Mist, Chosen: 300,000: 75 chapters & an average of 4,000 words per chapter. Post both Zexal and Frontier. The last remnant of Black Mist and the last remnant of Lucemon cross paths. This isn't going to be good for anyone (but lots of fun for Lucemon and Black Mist). No actual romances decided (potential Kouji x Kouichi, potential Lucemon x Black Mist)

Way Too Easy: Yuuya, Yuuto, Yuugo, Yuuri, others: 360,000: 111 chapters & an average of 3,000 words per chapter. The war didn't happen when they were fourteen. It might not happen at all - or perhaps it'll happen in a different way, when the four boys end up as vampires. No decided ships as of yet.

Dragon Magic: Seto, Mokuba: Projected Word Count: 360,000: 90 chapters & an average of 4,000 words per chapter. AU where Seto and Mokuba are dragons. Possibly related to an old story of mine, possibly not. I need to plot more on it to be sure. No ships decided as of yet.

War of the Undead: Ryou, Samejima, others: Projected Word Count: 360,000: 80 chapters & an average of 4,500 words per chapter. In a world where Brron fused all the dimensions years ago, those who survive, humans and spirits alike, must forge a future together. Which isn't easy when someone's trying to engineer a war between zombies and vampires. If any ships, probably Ryou x Yuusuke.

Walk The Dark Paths: Projected Word Count: 450,000: 36 chapters & an average of 12,000 words per chapter. Yamato falls through a crack in the worlds and ends up in a place where he's - Piemon's son? Is that his own ancestry or is it something else altogether? (breeds-verse and breeds-verse AU)

Ninjetti Rebirth: Projected Word Count: 510,000: 85 chapters & an average of 6,000 words per chapter. A mild rewrite of the PRiS era, focusing on the Rangers on Earth, who gain new powers in order to defend Earth, leaving the Space Rangers free to fight Astronema in space. Ships of choice: Kat x Tommy, others mostly undecided

I answer most questions about these if anyone wants more details. These would take months to write, but they're the very longest. So I ask you readers for your thoughts and opinions.

What i like about him/don't like about him:

Can we give him kudos for being the only fucking person with enough guts to hold six bloody decks in which he is constantly trying to modulate to be better each time

I like how he's supposed to be the smart kid of the bunch and literally takes being the genius to heart because only three people can connect science or math and dueling him, zweinstein and daitojiki/amanuel i mean literally i mean ok the writers started not giving two shits about him after season 1 but in theory he got a good life, praised for being smart, got to work with a duel scientist and got to live a happy life with his tiger waifu.

What i don't like about him has to be more at fault of the writers, come season two they just decide to mock his existence even going as far as having characters actually go oh right misawa exists which eventually lead to him getting desperate thus why he wanted to join the SoL i mean technically he was one of the few who didn't need to be beaten to get konked outta brainwashing (or did that actually even have a brainwashing effect on him for whatever reason and he just decides yeah I'm gonna stick in)

But man they could've developed him way better (heck even tagforce makes fun of him)

What i like about his design:

Well tbh there's nothing really about him design wise that totally sticks out other than the deck holders he literally has stuck on his inner jacket that kinda looks like dynamite which i think shadyvox's abridged actually even joked at.

I mean when they found him in the spirit dimension i thought he didn't look too bad just neaten the hair and lose the beard and its a decent look.

Do i prefer dub or sub names:

I mean technically the only change from the sub to the dub with his name is that misawa became his surname and that daichi got changed to bastion which kinda sounds posh as fuck ok Harrington Rosewood is worse but that's bc he's supposed to sound like a fancy schmancy

But i call him misawa more.

The guys got six different decks but i suppose I'd say water dragon bc i like how it's literally chemistry but w gas dino's making a giant H20 dragon

Favourite scene he was in:

Yknow despite all the shunning s2 gave him i think he got a little time to shine in s3, considering he was the one who figured out that zweinstein had meant that Rainbow dragon should fight the phantasms for enough energy to be produced in order to be able to send everyone else back home (yet nobody figured it would mean Johan would have to stay behind, sad indeed) and i mean hey in 148 he actually gave a pretty good explanation to the whole dimensional situation (ok tania helped a bit but he's the genius) and did kinda explain that the haou situation was supposedly yubels doing as well as the whole two sides of the same coin anatomy about judai and haou being connected (i still don't exactly agree with it but it's one of the few things I'm screw the cannon about)

Least favourite scene he was in:

As much as i like him and his relationship with tania i think it was ep36 but the fact that he was so bloody love struck by her that he was in a daze in which he put jam on his omnirice drank wostershire and tobacco sauce without giving the blink of an eye just felt wrong. I mean he wasn't even phased by the tobacco sauce clearly that should've had some effect.

Also i know a lotta people find the absolutely rediculous thing I'm about to mention amusing but

When he FUCKING STRIPPED NAKED AFTER SEEING THE DUEL JUDAI HAD WITH ZWEINSTEIN WAS JUST ODD.

LIKE HE DIDN'T EVEN KEEP HIS PANTS ON i mean luckily he wasn't facing the viewer while he was running so it didn't get gross otherwise pretty sure even the sub would've censored that, haven seen that episode in the dub but I'm assuming that they cut his nakedness bc they didn't want smol kids seeing a naked boy with white hair running about on their TV screens

Whitetigershipping: (Misawa x Tania) hey she might be a tiger at heart but as manjoume said after misawa realises he fell in love with a tiger "she was a great woman"

Plus i mean when she came back in s3 guess what he decides to do, stay with her (tbh that's probably one of the most hinted at to be cannon ships i ship other than spiritship from a analytical perspective) i also find it cute how in ep35 she's calling him misa-poo (ok judai dotes on calling him that but that's more bc he doesn't get its supposed to be a affectionate nickname hence why when he duels her he asks call me yuki-poo) and then in ep36 he's calling her tani-poo i think they're the only two characters who have proper affectionate nicknames for each other from a cannon standard (dearest judai n all that stuff doesn't really count tbh)

There is really nothing wrong with loving a tiger woman

Misawa x Asuka - I'm not exactly sure what this is called but i see this only really playing out with the manga personalities, probably because since manjo is a badass in the manga and has no time for crushes on asuka who do they decide to give a crush on asuka? Misawa i mean personally I only own one volume of the manga and have literally read up to just before the other American DA students come over (I'm not exactly fond of the personalities of atleast 3 out of the 5 of them bc obviously edo is one too along with the boys who were the respective champions of the regional Da's so that's pretty much why I've not read further) but I'm sure if they get a chance to full on bond i could see them getting together i mean hey he knows chivalry so that's pretty good

Hornetshipping (Misawa x manjoume) I'm not the biggest hornetshipper but I thought i should probably acknowledge this one plus someone had the funniest misinterpret of the name thinking it was Horneyshipping instead of hornet which is worth a mention (kudos kiga) but in honesty it is a pretty interesting pairing, the genius who solidated the loose streak of the snobby rich ass manjo and the sharp yet less snobby rich kid manjo definitely a curious one

NOTP:

I honestly don't really have one unless people see misawa and regie from the manga as a thing (considering he bested her in the quarterfinals of the tournament where the winner would duel ryo) i just really don't like her so it might be a little biased

My first OTP in SNS is this ship

I went through the entire pixiv and fanfiction Tag of Shokugeki back in 2016 to find any content for these two ahshdhdh (I found one picture on pixiv).

Now in 2018, my brain thought it was time for a second OTP that I would love with the same amount of love that I have for MarYu.

It ended up being another rare pair but now with the fun addition that it’s a rare pair opposing another ship so yeah. I really don’t know what’s wrong with me either.

So yah, my two major OTPs. I have tons of other ships I absolutely love but these two I am most passionate about....are, welp MarYu (Zenji Marui x Yuki Yoshino) and EtsuNe (Etsuya Eizan x Nene Kinokuni)

Listen, I also wish I could have just gotten myself this intensely invested into more normal and popular ships but that’s just now how I work I guess. I am a mess.

B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind

Funny that you ask me that, Asuka because without your existence I would still feel rather “:/“ about IsshiNene.

My reasons for initially not really being into IsshiNene is not that I ship Nene really passionately with someone else, please just believe me on that. When Nene and Isshiki has their major moments in the manga I wasn’t even that invested into EtsuNe (my investment came majorly with San no Sara), so yeah.

It’s mainly about the fact that I find it hard to picture Isshiki in a romantic relationship and he’s honestly just more of that kind off character I prefer to see alone ;w; There’s a few little things but I don’t need to go into that now.

However, I did always think Isshiki/Megumi is cute and Asuka ( @isshinene ) defiantly got me to think that Isshiki/Nene is also cute ! So yeah ! Kudos to you and your beautiful work you write them excellently 💕

Dexter the boy genius | Dexter's Laboratory - I can see him as a cute little bunny boy who can still kick some butts in an aggressive way >w< ♡︎♡︎♡︎

(Also more of them because why not) Dexter has a comedic and weird sense of humor. On the other personality, he is actually kind behind his anger. He is determinded unlike his sister.

Human Kuriboh (Judai Yuki/Jaden Yuki), Asussy baka (Asuka Tenjouin/Alexis Rhodes) and the Chazz (Jun Manjoume/Chazz Princeton) | Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Bi. They're literally bi. Just smashing Fianceé and GX Rivalshipping into a threesome 👌 <I have seperated headcanons for them>

Judai sleeps everywhere. He likes to visit the forest because it's perfect for a camping site. He can play the rock guitar (Yes I'm working in a concept GX FNF mod with this one). Like Dexter, he has a comedic and weird sense of humor. The human Kuriboh has an iron stomach. He is a bad chef. Judai is a German-Japanese Slifer Student - his mother is Japanese while his father is German-Japanese as well. Judai's parents portrays his partner (Winged Kuriboh) for his mother and his incarnation (The Supreme King) for his father respectively.

There are no headcanon informations for Asuka, but I think that casual American clothes fits her (especially jeans).

Manjoume is a scenemo goth (despite this theme doesn't fit for his funny personality and his deck lol) idiot who likes, well, the black color. His outfit with the black coat seems fit for him in terms of his Suneo-styled black hair and his face.

Tomato Girl (Yuya Sakaki) | Yu-Gi-Oh! The very first thing Asuka talks about is being alone and not wanting to be. But because he's dating Shun, who is so quick to be alone but also so quick to dismiss actual emotions or emotional labels over the idea of logic... he's rather obviously often alone.

And then we get this very sweet moment in the past when you see how much Shun does and can support Asuka and give him the bravery and energy and willingness to follow his dreams even when he doesn't even consider his dreams to be anything he could try. They do balance each other out well, in their ways, but that communication breaks down so easily. We know that from their original story in the first show.

They need to be open with each other and very clear... but it's hard when you're practically speaking different languages.

Right here. He tells Asuka he's wrong, takes his notebook and fixes his approach to the problem. Not the solution, not the answer, but very specifically how he approached the problem in the first place. And, yes, that does matter! But it also comes into play in their relationship. Asuka is constantly putting himself second to just 'how Shun-kun is' without any question or choice and everyone around him knows it just as well as he does.

Asuka is trying so hard to accept that a relationship he wants to be made out of love is made out of a different kind of love than he expected. He love Shun, he truly does, but all he gets back is something different. Not the same words, even if it is the same idea.

And for all that he might have been prepared for that, he wasn't prepared for the wondering, the waiting, the way he might never know if he is loved.

The fake dating that Asuka didn't know was fake obviously had more affection and physical contact than actually dating Shun has and Asuka is feeling it. You can tell. You can watch him go from joking about in this scene, teasing and affection of Minato, to much more serious about it in later scenes just in this episode.

The saddest little cake eating. Oh, Asuka. He wants to love and be loved and he wants to do that with Shun but Shun is built different and Asuka isn't getting what he wants or needs from him because their communication just isn't working.

Si tratta di un piaga sociale che affligge la società contemporanea e di cui i media si occupano in genere solo quando avvengono dei gravi episodi di cronaca. L'argomento è stato indagato anche da Hirokazu Kore'eda in Nobody Knows, uno dei suoi film più strazianti, ispirato a una storia vera.

Yuzu ran as fast as she could back home. Her dad has asked her to pick up more cups for the New Year’s Party for the students at You Show, and she had a hell of a time finding any- or a store that was open for that matter. She checked her phone almost constantly. 11:30pm, and no messages from anyone. “Well, at least they’re not rushing me,” she thought.

The snow was beautiful and distracting. As she ran, she saw the snow fall onto the ice covered river in the most graceful of ways. Unfortunately, she was not as graceful, and slipped on some ice, falling into the snow. Yuzu cursed the ice, rubbing her sore tailbone. Then she scanned for her fallen bag and checked the contents. No cups were injured, that was good at least. She got up, brushed the snow off her skirt, and continued walking, deciding to wait until spring to run so recklessly.

Eventually she made it home, checking her phone again. 11:48. A little bit later than she hoped for, but not “too late” by any means. She doffed her coat and other winter things, shivering at the new sense of heat. With the bag in hand, she walked down the hall to the living room. “I’m home,” she called to her dad, who waved back from the cut wall. Once she walked into the room, she dropped her cups.

“Surprise!” Everyone shouted. She couldn’t help but look around. The Bracelet Girls, Yuugo, and Yuuto were sitting on the couch holding party poppers. Because of Bonds Beyond Time, it's presumed 5Ds takes place in the same universe as DM & GX. But Zexal, Arc-V, Vrains, & Sevens each take place in different universes. Different from the first one, & from each other. Until we learn otherwise, the new series YGO Go Rush may be a sequel to Sevens.

They're usually referred to as legacy characters. Arc-V isn't my favorite but it gave me female characters who can interact with Asuka (something GX didn't have nearly enough of) & a rare ship (Edo x Kaito). And Yuuri. And Shun. (also known to me as evil cabbage & birb that nukes an opponent from orbit).

He might need time to adjust to different rules but I'm sure he could make an extremely acceptable showing in any of them.

While Juudai did lose, it wasn’t officially shown on screen (you have to pay attention to the life points & respective strengths of the monsters involved), and afterwards he set out on his journey to help other people. The best choice he could have made, & the least selfish.

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V but Kaiba uses Dragon Core Hexer to hunt down other dragons because only he's allowed to use dragons. Arc V did have characters from other series in it (Except for the Original Series). Alexis Rhodes and Aster Phoenix from GX, Jack Atlas and Crow Hogan from 5Ds, and Kite Tenjo from Zexal. Though I don't think the cameos were well received because they drastically altered the characters. I know Jack's was disliked so much they made a separate page for him.

Arc V had characters from the different series appear as cameos? On theory, that sounds amazing but they fucked it up? Because they weren't staying true to the characters!?

Well, damn, it's a good thing the OG characters were spared then! The only character I only remember in 5Ds is Yuusei so I'm glad he didn't showed up at least.
