I feel like when Brian said that Paintbrush and Lightbulb are a canon couple, he wasn't being honest about it, but rather said it with the sole intent of shutting the fans up. Not that I hate Lightbrush or anything, but I don't really like it either. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Paintbrush explicitly tells Lightbulb that they never loved her in Act III or sometime after it.
