(only somewhat distantly related to the whole 'i dont know him / he's my dad' angst) but i've been obsessed over the though of JUST how ingrained robin training must be for all of them, but honestly? especially for dick because he was there the longest. he IS robin. he helped create batman to who he is today.
and just thinking of any flavor of angst and battle that involves batman yelling 'robin, [insert action]!' and WHOever, even if they're not robin any longer, even if it's been YEARS, listens. because they KNOW. YES!!! b is regularly full of shit and overprotective nonsense, but he's also your best bet in the field to keep you safe. and that THIS is the first lesson in robin training: there is PLENTY of time to develop your own style and bicker with b, BUT you can only do that AFTER this battle is through and you still have your head because you listened when he told you to duck
(and of course, the same in reverse. batman not even having to look when a robin calls out 'b, your nine!', just does what needs to be done)
agreed, this flavor of Dick & Bruce supremely fucks me up. I have another rant in me somewhere for another day where it's about Robin being a blessing and a curse because it is everything you ever wanted but also a curse because once it's done, you will never be able to achieve that kind of closeness again and that enrages you with grief, at a certain point. (I loved ameliorating this with the bond in my fic borderline, they got to be close to Bruce again and possessive of him again and there was no one saying they couldn't anymore, not even themselves)

WARDI TERMS OF ENDEARMENT
emense [ɛmɛnse] (eh-mehn-say)
Has meaning close to 'beloved' or 'darling'. "Ya emense" (meaning 'my beloved'/'my darling') is often contracted "y'mense".
bubuch [bubuk] (boo-bookh)
Somewhat of a nonsense word, basically ‘big-big’. Tends to either be used for small children or flirtatiously between adults (kind in between 'baby' and 'big boy' in functionality, though without gendered implications of the latter). Sometimes instead used as a form of intense condescension.
ya mache mes [ja mɑke mes] (yah mah-kay mace)
Functionally means "my other face", using the figurative word for face describing a concept of fundamental nature rather than anatomy. Very intense term of endearment, expresses the recipient as a core part of one's identity. Kind of equivalent to 'my other half' but not exclusively romantic.
ya tsitsima [ja ͡tsi͡tsimə] (yah tsee-tsee-muh)
Means "my blood". This term is used more broadly to denote familial relations, and is more of a term of endearment when used outside of actual biological relationship (calling your sister 'my blood' is just an intense way of saying 'my [relative]', calling a non-relative 'my blood' is VERY pointedly affectionate).
ya ungande [ja ungɑnde] (yah oon-gahn-day)
Often contracted to y'ungande, dead literally means "my liver" as in the organ. Ungande alone is also used as a food-based term of endearment, similar to 'honey' except instead with delicious organ meat.
anuje [ɑnudʒe] (ah-noo-jay)
Food based term of endearment, referring to a tree sap that is the most commonly used form of sweetener. Functionally identical to 'honey' in usage.
anu tlansekoma [ɑnu tlɑnsekoʊmə] (ah-noo tlahn-say-koh-muh)
This one actually means 'honey' (dead literally 'bee sweet'). Less common than 'anuje' as a term of endearment due to general cultural preference for anuje as a sweetener and the relative rarity of beekeeping.
inyagit [injəgit] (een-yah-geet)
Diminutive form of 'sun'. 'Ya inya' (my sun) occurs as well, but is less common.
y'mit agai [j'mit ɑgaɪ] (yuh-meet ah-gai)
Contraction of 'ya amit agai', 'my blue moon'. This specification is more common than a general 'my moon(s)' and is fairly loaded, given this particular moon is the site of the afterlife for the most honored dead. The phrase both suggests a sort of celestial beauty and a sense of being honored and finding rest in the recipient. This is a VERY intense and almost exclusively romantic term of endearment.
coutomara [koʊtoʊmɑrə] (koh-to-mahr-uh)
Means 'handsome' or 'beautiful', implies masculine attractiveness. (Dead literally closer to 'strong face'/'strong featured').
jaimara [dʒaɪmɑrə] (jaim-mahr-uh)
Means 'pretty' or 'beautiful', implies feminine attractiveness (dead literally close to 'beautiful face'/'beautifully featured').
katsuy [kɑtsui] [kaht-soo'ee]
Sexually charged description of physical attractiveness, basically calling someone 'sexy'.
ya katsuymen [ja kɑtsuimɛn] (yah koht-soo'ee-mehn)
Related and also sexually charged, close in meaning to 'my desire'.
at akmatse yachouy [ɑt ɑkmɑtse jɑtʃɔɪ] (aht ahk-mat-say yah-choi )
Sexually explicit term of endearment. The dead literal translation is "one who makes me flower". The word "flower" here is not as euphemistic in context and is rather the nicest sounding possible way to say "makes me cum (HARD)". Not considered vulgar, rather cloyingly romantic if anything.
gan(ne) ama [gɑn(e) ɑmə] (gah(-nay) ahm-uh)
Means 'bull'. When used affectionately, implies masculine strength. Usually used in conjunction with an adjective (ie 'handsome bull') or more teasingly gannit ama (little/baby bull))
jaimeti [dʒaɪmɛti] (jai-meh-tee)
Means 'gazelle' (the name for the animal itself is close in meaning to 'beautiful horn'), heavily associated with grace and beauty. Also tends to be used with adjectives ('lovely gazelle' 'handsome gazelle' etc) or with a diminutive.
ansiba [ɑnsibɑ] (ahn-see-bah) or ansibit [ɑnsibit] (ahn-see-beet)
Means 'duck' and 'duckling' respectively, specifically refers to the animal and implies cuteness. Ansibit is a very common term of endearment for children.
"Wannaukoma such datse anmo" [wɑnaʊkoʊmə suk dɑtse ɑnmoʊ] (wahn-now-koh-muh sookh daht-say ahn-moh)
Means 'an ant could swallow you', implies cuteness (ie the recipient is so small and tiny an Ant could devour them whole). Usually used on children, occasionally used on adult women (in a way that feels intensely patronizing to many). 'Datse' (you) may be replaced by the recipients surname or honorific in the rare case that someone would dare calling someone this without being on first name basis with them.
wannaukomit [wɑnaʊkoʊmit] (wahn-now-koh-meet)
Means 'little ant', a term of endearment that borders on insulting even to babies.
OTHER:
-it [it] (eet)
This is a diminutive modifier, which can be added to a name or other word/term of endearment to denote affection (can also be condescending). It lacks internal meaning in everyday use and is closer to the English -y or -ie (billy johnny rosie susie puppy kitty ducky etc).
hippe [hipɛ] (heep-peh) (some dialects drop the h sound entirely)
Means 'small' or 'little', can be spoken with other words/names as an affectionate diminutive.
Other epithets-
Various epithets used in the language are not exclusively used as terms of endearment, but can be contextually. Most commonly, this will be the -machen epithet of the recipients zodiac birthsign (particularly those considered auspicious). Someone with the lion birthsign could be respectfully and/or affectionately called 'odomachen', or VERY affectionately called 'ya odo' ('my lion'). There's also a good variety of poetic epithets that have worked their way into common language as affectionate compliments/descriptors- ie ganatoche (dead literally 'cow-eye', more prettily 'ox-eyed') is a complimentary descriptor for brown eyes, anaemaitsa (dead literally 'river-haired', more prettily 'flowing-haired') compliments wavy hair.
Given name basis-
In Wardi culture, full names are spoken with the family name preceding the given name. When respectfully speaking to a stranger, peer, or authority figure, you refer to them by their family name, title, and/or an honorific. Being on an accepted given name basis with someone is generally indicative of closeness and affection.
datse [dɑtse] (dah-tsay)
This is the word for "you". Similarly to the use of a given name, actually referring to someone as 'you' (rather than a surname, title, or honorific in place of the pronoun) expresses familiarity and intimacy.

do many fords fail the ‘prioritise stan when there’s danger’ test?? what does stcmo!ford do if they do? (like where do the stans go bc i’d imagine the majority of them would probably want to stay with their ford even if it wouldn’t end well for them)
Not very many fail, no.
But the ones that do fail have their brother whisked away via teleportation. Ford will keep Stan in his care for a few days, making sure to coddle Stan and make sure he's healthy. Ford will also introduce himself to Stan without the helmet on, of course, since that stops a vast majority of the Stans from dipping out at the first opportunity.
Ford will then proceed to teach his counterpart a lesson starting with some article of clothing from Stan after Ford gets him a new outfit (as well as some extra outfits). Ford dirties them with some cloned Stan blood and leave them in the Ford's shack/college dorm/etc and proceed to lurk to see what the Ford's reaction is.
Not a single Ford has held their shit together and most break by the third article of clothing, trashing the area around them and sobbing as they realize what they have done in not choosing Stan. Once the Ford realizes what they did wrong and is thoroughly regretful, Ford 419"3 will leave a note offering a trade.
Destroy whatever it was that they chose over Stan at a location of 419"3 Ford's choosing and they can have their brother back.
Ford 419"3 will erase Stan's memories of his face but keep the interactions, the Stans just won't be able to remember what he looks like but they'll know that they weren't in danger. This is important because Ford doesn't want the Stan traumatized by the experience.
And, when the Ford gets to the location and destroys the item, Ford 419"3 will have them wait out of sight until the Ford cracks, begging for his brother back and apologizing for not realizing how important Stan was to him sooner. Usually the Stan is frozen in place as his brother cries, so Ford 419"3 will give him a little nudge so he goes to comfort his brother.
Ford 419"3 lingers to make sure the Ford is reacting accordingly before he will leave them to their reconciliation.

i love the genre of fic where it's just tim drake going to the most cartoon-ish lengths to reconcile with jason.
(whether that be to restore his own views of the robin he knew. or to get jason to see him as tim, instead of a replacement).
and it works every time too. at the end i'm always like, 'yeah buddy you go! but i feel like i just watched an episode of tom and jerry with those stunts you were pulling'

Apparently Mike Flanagan is working on an adaptation of Carrie, and everyone is saying things along the lines of "I know he's going to be the one to give us a book-accurate Carrie" and that's insane to me because a) he has never worked with any plus sized actors as far as I can remember and b) the closest he ever gets to book accuracy in anything is looking at the book once, maybe
Carrie is thin and conventionally attractive. but she's gay! not for Sue Snell, though; that would make too much thematic and narrative sense. she's gay for [throws dart at board] Donna Kellogg, a character who never appears in person in the book, and who is actively friends with the villain. This Makes Sense! Representation Win!
(although the one thing I will say re: Carrie's size is that the book does pull a But Not TOO Fat on her at one point, mentioning that "her body chemistry won't let her get past a certain size" or whatever. And some people who see her in her prom dress think she's pretty, which in the 1970s came with a weight limit even more than it does now. So she's not thin, for sure, but as written she's probably more average-sized than actually heavy)

Speaking of Borderline, the hate you received for that was insane. I don't remember much of what they were upset about, though I do know one was what Tim did to lock down the cave. It really was a reminder how differently people can view the same character. They could've just not write hate and either drop the fic or mentally disagree and move on.
I read what Tim did and was happy because "Yes! That's Tim. He would so do that. Not his best move though." It was a mess and beautiful because of it.
Yeah, people were REALLY upset about that scene for some reason! It felt very in character for Tim, but it was also messy and hurtful on purpose (my purpose) to show the stress they were under in the new bond.
Tim made mistakes, but so did everyone else -- Damian messed up, Bruce messed up, they were all hurting each other and lashing out and doing things they wouldn't normally do because they were adjusting to their new reality. It was also done to reflect how similar Tim and Bruce were in not trusting others, being abrasive, and making unilateral decisions without input from the rest of the family. Of course, now Bruce was on the receiving end of it -- it's hilarious, in a dark way.
I don't think it makes Tim a bad person, and I felt that was pretty clear from the chapter, but. Well. The Tim stans REALLY disagreed. Holy crap did they disagree with me even implying that Tim could make a mistake. When the whole point of the fic was that everyone was going to react poorly, make mistakes, and then become stronger as a bond because of that initial kickback/lashing out.

does anyone else have extreme trouble with backpaddeling or just feeling this urge to downplay themselves every single time something is supposed to come from myself?
everytime im stable with a decision and an opposing decision or an agreeing decision comes up, i immediately second guess and feel like i have to downplay this or change my decision because this came from ME so "yk its not that bad after all" or "im sure i just thought wrong its actually better than my brain makes me think".
yeah sure...
im so sick of saying yes but then being like "yk what, no,,, thats not my opinion, nah, its not even that bad, we can just do whatever you want its fine" after 3 years (/hyp) of pondering what the fuck i even want.
its so fucking annoying i cant even put it into words. and every single time too. i just have this urge to downplay myself, my thoughts, my opinions, my struggles, everything from myself. so i also backpaddle on a lot of stuff because suddenly im just "nah its not that bad, i swear".
