I can't understand how anyone can think/find two queer characters having consensual happy simple sex as awkward or cringe or boring. Is it homophobia or happyphobia or philophobia?
I’m very aware that this song is about partition & Pakistani experience & diaspora rather than the Shoah but my fucking god every time I think about
jumping down wells from the rapists, show us your foreskin, check what his faith is, neighbors you played with digging your graves yeah our bodies can still keep the score we can taste it
Thinking about how everyone has this complaint about how siblings don’t actually address each other as brother or sister. And valid complaint, I feel like people who write siblings that way have just consumed a shit ton of anime and forgot that for most English speakers, that’s not generally how they speak.
But then thinking about Ninjago, and how Acronix and Krux call each other “Brother” pretty much constantly. (And Wu and Garm actually, but this ain’t about them) And how Kai and Nya for the most part do not do that. The occasional bro or sis, which in my part of the world isn’t really that unusual, we do say sis here, but generally they sound more like actual siblings than some of the others on the show.
With one major exception. When they’re fighting Acronix and Krux in the museum. Kai and Nya hear the way Krux and Acronix talk and immediately put a ton of emphasis on calling each other “brother” and “sister”. They’re mocking them. Mid-fight they’re making fun of the way they talk. In universe, Kai and Nya notice that that’s a weird way to speak to your sibling. And I think that’s so fucking funny.
I think Kishimoto has a long list of problems within himself that he’s put into his work like his misogyny regarding the women, but I think his racism should also be addressed - specifically in regards to Gai.
Gai (Tenten and Lee as well) has been insinuated to be Chinese and besides the clothing to show it, he uses racial stereotypes to further it.
The stereotype that Chinese people are “all loud” comes to mind. He makes sure to draw a difference with Gai (and Lee) and the others by making them loud and “weird”. He’s almost always the butt of a joke if he’s a part of the story outside of the very few moments where he genuinely shines.
SP doesn’t help with his racial stereotyping because in filler there are jokes about Gai having a small penis which is a stereotype that Asian men (Chinese in this case) people have small genitalia.
Overall Gai is treated very poorly because of Kishimoto and SP’s racism and I think it should be acknowledged and talked about because it’s irritating and disgusting.
honestly kinda interesting how many books people tagged in that "books with no editor" post are tor.com titles. Cause like at least from my experience, a decent amount of tor.com (a subset of the general Tor) books are more "experimental"/"nontraditional" in their writing styles or plot structure or just focus in general (compared to other tradpubbed sff at least) in ways that seem to be pretty hit or miss for people (based on average ratings on goodreads and just how I've seen people talk about them on instagram and stuff) but I've found i tend to really like them
