there’s colorblind casting and then there’s just color-ignorant casting and that’s what abf as oliver is. it changes the dynamic of the show for oliver to be white, particularly adding a distasteful layer to the subplot of james’ son feeling like james prefers oliver (aka his “perfect fake white son”) over him. and i simply don’t want a white man doing the “all humans look alike” bit that is clearly riffing on asian racism. what was a funny joke when it was asians on the stage now feels like a white guy just being racist
