A Rating & Scathing Review of RWBY Characters:

This is a serious review where I seriously analyze each character and rate them all seriously!!

If I hurt anyone in this, I’m sorry, it’s not you, it’s me. It’s nothing personal.

That being said, let’s get on to the ratings!

Ruby Rose:

Can I just say:

I really just love Ruby. Isn’t she awesome? Like. Man. What a lovable, strong, caring, amazing person! Had the weight of the world thrown onto her, and she didn’t care, she just kept doing what she thought was the right thing. And when she broke? It was still selfless. She thought she was doing the world a favor after all her mistakes. Then she came back because she knew she could do and had to do more for everyone. She needs a hug and all the love.

Weiss Schnee:

Weiss??? The way she opens up and goes from being all, “friendship? Who needs it.” To, “I! Love! My! Friends! Friendship is magic! I will fight tooth and nail for them! They are the most important people in the world!” And the way she became so open minded after learning from different perspectives? Gotta love her.

Blake Belladonna:

Oh my gosh and another of my favorites: Blake! She learns to let herself be loved by those around her! She learns that letting people in isn’t a weakness, but a great strength! She is a fierce protector and a whole civil rights activist taking the world by storm! She finds a way to show love now in any scenario when beforehand she didn’t because she was scared to get hurt. Gosh. Spectacular.

Yang Xiao-Long:

Don’t even get me started on Yang. Protector Supreme. The way she used to let her emotions control her to controlling her emotions??? I’m in shambles. From learning how to live for herself and not just her sister??? It’s important even though she missed rubys pain she’s only human and she’s beautiful!! The way she loves through her actions and defends through her words??? Just kill me now.

Jaune Arc:

Oh yeah and Jaune??? The character development??? Wowza. The way he’s always there for those he cares about??? Fantastic. The way he would throw everything away just to be there for his friends?? I am deceased. His fortitude and determination to keep pushing through?? Ugh.

Nora Valkyrie:

Nora??????? My Queen????? With her heart a beautiful storm that she projects to all those around her??? Her protective nature over everyone??? How she learns that she needs to love herself and know herself before she can truly dedicate herself to another???? Literally puts me 6 feet under.

Pyrrha Nikos:

Pyrrha??? Don’t think I’m leaving her out of this! Her heart was so strong with her convictions and her love for her friends that she literally did everything she thought she could to protect them. She wanted to define her destiny and save the world in the way she thought only she could. I will literally never recover.

Oscar Pine:

Oscar???????????????? My baby???? My precious little prince??? Innocent farm boy who keeps getting slapped in the face by literally everyone (seriously crwby this poor boy needs a break and a hug) literally losing his soul but wants to spend every second he has doing everything he can for remnant???? He didn’t ask for this???? And yet here he is??? I haven’t stopped crying since V5 thank you very much!

Lie Ren:

Ren????? My boy??? Who feels like he always has to be the strong one emotionally??? Who always has to mask his own emotions to take care of others???? Who literally developed a semblance, a manifestation of his SOUL that is empathy??????? Like what???? Who would literally rather be dead than without Nora?? Who tried to take up the mantle of Jaunes emotional support humanness???? Orkcmekwkqo.

I could go on for the rest of my life for these people and literally every other character.

Also, how come tumblr doesn’t have more colors available??? Truly a tragedy and quite rude if I might say! Hmph!

I really hope someone gets some giggles out of this like I did!

for all the amicability in the whirlwind later on i think it's really important to never lose sight of why dru was turned and then why she in turn sired spike. she was tortured and turned for angelus' enjoyment, her continued suffering brings him pleasure. he owns her, she is a Thing to him and she has no way to escape this. she makes spike to be "her brave knight" a position that, especially in fairytales, means a very romantic man physically protects and serves a woman who is usually gonna end up being some kind of damsel in distress.

while yes dru is evil and a vampire she's still obviously very upset about what happened to her and those moments seem to be her times of lucidity, not delusion. not to mention that she's already been beaten out of the notion that she can escape angelus, she tried to as a human and it didn't work, it likely won't work now either, especially if darla sides with him. but with spike around there's someone who basically always takes her side and fights to keep angelus away from her. who is, at least, a buffer between her and her tormentor. he also takes care of her and validates her, something neither darla or angelus seem to be interested in doing at all.

i feel like people tend to intellectually remember what happened to her but forget that it you know, has long lasting consequences when say, they evaluate her behavior in late s2 when angelus comes back. like... yeah ofc she goes back to appeasing him and shit. spike's a wheelchair and she was beaten into shape to be "daddy's little girl" (gag) YEARS before she even MET spike. her abuser is back and her defender is out of commission not to mention her whole view of reality has been actively warped by the most narcissistic sleezoid around.

and all the reasons why people love spike or point to as why he's better with buffy or whatever.... dru was the one who saw those first and picked him because of those. like... it's wild to see people act like they spent a loveless century together and spike was just used the whole time when we SEE them literally in love, he states MULTIPLE times she means so much to him and we get an OUTSIDE SOURCE CONFIRM THEY HAVE "AFFECTION AND JEALOUSY FOR EACH OTHER". we have the spike we know of today because drusilla saw the hero in him and wanted him to rescue her. and ya know, he kinda did. multiple times. over a century of deep, mutual horrifying love. you only even GET spike and buffy in the same ROOM because he loved dru so much he saved her from a mob, traveled with her across a continent (maybe 2 depending on direction) and over an ocean for even a SHOT at a cure. like... cMON.

this got a little off topic into some of my pet peeves but also kinda not because just-- i don't think people always remember that dru is still a victim and a victim who was intentionally frozen the moment of maximum despair and internal destruction. then spent about 20 years being groomed by her tormentor before she ever had anyone care about her as a priority. i think people tend to forget that it was angelus who wanted to turn spike into a monster and drusilla who wanted him to be a hero. it's dru who gives him his swagger, his confidence, his love for life, who encouraged his romanticism and adored his poetics. it's not that she groomed or built him, but just that she saw all that potential already in there and facilitated it and nurtured it. sure in a fucked up vampire way but still.

Look at my evil princess. I love her so much. She's an unstoppable force of chaos that is simultaneously bent on assimilation. She is the worst person ever yet I am always rooting for her. Companies rise and fall based on who she wants to invite to dinner. I want her to destroy the world.

No but actually, if you genuinely think Debling was good for Penelope or better than Colin because "he cared about her from the beginning" you're actually just silly.

Like first off this man genuinely had no deep connect to her at all. In episode 1 when they initially meet, he's a little flirtatious yeah, but ultimately thats not caring that essentially flirting at a house party, and he immediately couples it with completely ignoring her distress after Cressida rips her dresss and leaving to just not be seen again until episode 3. And when he shows up again, his behavior is very much similar to ep 1, where he proceeds for that episode to entertain both her and Cressida. Because to him it didn't matter which one of them he married, he was going to marry one, point blank. He chose the two most isolated girls in the ton, who had little to no friends, and pit them against each other until one couldn't fake it anymore and he decided "yeah she'll be good enough." You can't really argue he doesn't, because he does nothing to stop their rivalry for his attention until Penelope says she can't continue faking an intrest in birds.

Like his relationship with Penelope is so surface level its not funny, they don't know anything about each other, he seems to have no desire to learn. All he wants is, essentially a socially acceptable fuckable servant. Penelope reveals she loves reading and romance? He goes "damn, well you aren't getting that from me" and then drops the bomb that basically immediately after they marry hes leaving her for 3 years(longer because he will die but whatever) and expects her to be okay with it. Penelopes job as his wife, in his eyes, is to hopefully get pregnant in the little bit of time they spend together, and then to watch over his house. He even tells her he doesn't think he could ever love her, and while Penelope acts fine with that, she is a romantic. Penelope legitimately would not be happy in this relationship, and it would never get a chance to improve because this man is so indifferent and uncaring about his potential bride he's planning to fuck off immediately after marrying her.

He also, very clearly doesn't even respect her? Like by the time they're meant to be getting engaged, you'd think he'd have a higher opinion of her, or some actual faith in her abilities to be a loyal wife when they marry, but he doesn't. He lets Colin cut into their dance, and has no issue with that, likely because he views her similar to how she views herself, a relatively undesirable girl he doesn't have to worry about drawing attention as he was her only suitor, but the moment Cressida mentions they're childhood friends? The moment he puts 2 and 2 together about her actual reason for sitting in the window? He gets pissed, and leaves, seemingly planning to fully ghost Penelope, and when she confronts him to try and calm him down he essentially calls her a whore. For..what? Having a crush before they met? A crush that she thinks at that moment is one-sided, a crush that she was willing to bury to be his good little wife, he sees that and says shes untrustworthy, because he believes she'll cheat on him first chance she gets. And then he fucks off.

If he actually cared about her how some of you claim, her crush on Colin wouldn't matter, and he wouldn't have subtly slut shamed her for it. If he cared even a little, he would have at least shown up later to apologize for his behavior and either wish her well or try and sway her back to him. But he doesn't, none of those things happen because he doesn't see her past the ability she had to manage his estates and give him heirs.

He legitimately doesn't see her any different than how Anthony saw Edwina, and the idea that Penelope should have settled for that? That she should have given up being with the love of her life in order to be with this man that is seemingly considerably older than her, who doesn't care much for her past her ability to do the only two things he actually cares about in regards for a wife? Thats insane, like did you pay attention at all? If he cared for her at all he wouldn't have immediately left society, but he does, not because hes heart broken, but because his ego got bruised and hes pissed he has to start his search again, that his "find the loneliest girl in the room and marry her" plan wasn't a success.

Debling would not have been a good match for Penelope, and she wouldn't be happy with him. And despite what you guys seem to think, Colin has always cared about her, he was just her friend first which isn't a bad thing. He has always defended her, always been kind to her, and he didn't let another man ruin his chances with her.

Penelope got her happy ending, stop pretending she was robbed.

k tanaka is something that can be SO personal.

it hurts to relate to them, it hurts to know that yeah your impulsive actions DO have an effect on others and NO you can't save everyone because not everyone NEEDS to be saved and NO you don't know better. so you try and change and help people but the pressure is just so much and you never really had coping mechanisms because you never thought to take on this kind of work, and you basically grew up on a screen, but no one told you it was all FAKE! so you're disillusioned with reality and trying to do everything while still keeping it fun for yourself and others, only to find out that your behavior is CONCERNING and UNHEALTHY, rather than the norm you believed it to be. and the fun way of keeping yourself happy and sane actually wasn't benefiting anyone, it was only making things more complex. so you're back with your friends you haven't seen in forever (one of whom is your ex) and they're worried about you immediately. and in a way it's almost patronizing because you feel like you've been doing good work, and you feel like this is your norm, and you wonder if this is how your ex felt when you worried about him and tried to fix him. it makes you wonder who's really wrong, if anyone. so you get to do your little magical quest and it's the happiest you've been in FOREVER. you're back with your friends and your fixing magic and you get to lose yourself for just a while, but you shouldn't. things are bad and worse and you learn new things and you find a way to help, but people are worried about you again. except your ex, who thinks it's great that you're now a magic network router, and you don't know how to feel about that because you know what he's like, how "tragic" he is. you honestly wonder if he even likes you as a person after what you've done to him, what you've done to the group, what YOU put them through. and soon enough everything comes crashing down. you can't act like you're the hero, the main character, the badass who's up against the world and winning, because you're not. you don't know the first thing about an uprising because you're not living in reality. you don't know how to do these things, how to navigate life, it's just easier to get lost in the whimsy and the fight and the intensity. like how it's easier to watch a movie than read a book. how the music and the explosions and the action keeps you enthralled, how it makes you feel worthwhile. and yet, you aren't. your ex even says he doesn't know what to do after these adventures, but you're worse off. you get a simple "nice try, but not quite right" and you go back to it. you realize you do want to be surrounded by your friends, but the temptation of being a legend will never stop pulling at the back of your mind, so you're stuck. you do what you can. you live in mediocrity, in small moments, you fight where you can, and you help. you think sacrifice would be easier than solace. martyrdom over mundanity. but you keep trying, because you have to. because no one's with you if you don't.
