Interview with W Magazine (2024)
Tumblr media
Jonathan Bailey has traveled the world to promote Wicked, but there was one person he was especially eager to share the film with: his 94-year-old grandmother. She nurtured his love for musical theater and encouraged him to pursue ballet as a child, thus shaping his career in the arts.
So, the day after Wicked came out in the U.K., Bailey hosted a private screening at a local cinema for four generations of his family. While sitting in between his nana (who had painted her nails green for the occasion) and his mom and dad, Bailey became overcome with emotion.
“It’s a miraculous thing to know that what it came down to is having parents who let me go to the local village hall, and a grandparent who let me play, dance around and sing, and be free at such a young age,” Bailey tells W. “If you can catch a passion and just ring-fence it at such a young age, you never know what it can amount to.”
Adapted from the iconic Broadway stage musical, the film, which is set before the events of 1939’s The Wizard of Oz, chronicles the friendship between Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her classmate Galinda (Ariana Grande), later known as Glinda the Good.
Bailey’s scene-stealing portrayal of Fiyero Tigelaar, the charismatic Crown Prince of Winkie Country, only reaffirms his status as a Hollywood triple threat. In fact, “Dancing Through Life,” the earworm that serves as his character’s introduction at Shiz University, just cracked Billboard’s Hot 100 charts this week. (“That’s amazing. Do I get a certificate? What happens now?” Bailey quips.)
Bailey began rehearsing for Wicked in 2022 while shooting Fellow Travelers, the groundbreaking Showtime limited series that earned the 36-year-old his first Emmy nomination, and the third season of Bridgerton, the smash-hit Netflix romantic drama that made him a household name. Speaking on a video call from London in early December, the British star reveals that he is in the middle of reprising his role as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, who is expecting his first child with wife Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
“There’s such an important relationship with the [Bridgerton] bros that has been developed over the series. Season four is going to be Luke [Thompson] and Yerin [Ha] being absolutely extraordinary, and there’s a whole plethora of new characters coming in,” Bailey says. “It’s so nice to come back, and it’s about celebrating the romance stories we’ve had and digging into the ones that are starting.”
Patience will have to be a virtue for Wicked and Bridgerton fans alike; the second half of the former, which Bailey coyly describes as “rich, bruising and hopeful,” will premiere next November, while the latter will debut in 2026.
How did you think about building your own interpretation of Fiyero?
The starting point was “Dancing Through Life.” He creates chaos around him, like he does in that song, because he’s got to match the chaos that’s going on inside. The challenge that I felt was the trope of a cool caddish prince. He’s deeply unnerved by stillness and adhering to rules and structure. That is probably a sign of someone who’s never really experienced love. When you see someone causing that sort of disturbance, it’s usually because they’ve never felt seen. An organizational psychologist, Adam Grant, sent me a message saying, “It’s a masterful portrayal of superficiality masking depth.” Out of all the things I’ve heard, that is the thing I’m going to get printed on a T-shirt.
The Shiz library scene was inspired by the work of Fred Astaire in Royal Wedding. What did you want to convey in those moments?
Fiyero has to come in and change the physical language and the emotional landscape of that school in one number. His fluidity, ease, and elasticity speak to his ability to maneuver and avoid. He’s quite avoidant. He has these bright, shining moments with everyone but never really allows the other person to land it with him. For those who understand the physical language of Fiyero, there are many Easter eggs and nods to what happens to him later in the story.
Fiyero is at the center of a love triangle between Elphaba and Galinda. What do you think he sees in each of them?
The brilliant thing about the film is that these slightly trivial tropes mask extraordinarily deep and shifting understandings of social experiences. The superficiality, the privilege, and the sense of easy chemistry make sense with Glinda. But I feel like he’s yearning for something more, and, as Elphaba sees, he’s unhappy and depressed. Fiyero and Elphaba can click in terms of the way they sing, dance, and move together. Elphaba has a calming presence on Fiyero and allows him to be himself. It’s a real privilege to meet someone who sees you for who you really are.
Are there any songs from the second Wicked movie you are most excited about?
“No Good Deed”—I cannot wait to see that come together. And “Thank Goodness”—it’s just such an incredibly operatic, Wagnerian opening. We know how brilliant the girls are, and I’m so excited to see the tonal shift that will inevitably happen to get to the end of the story.
You’ve been leveraging the success of projects with massive, global appeal (Bridgerton, Wicked, the next Jurassic World) to return to the theater (like your next role in Richard II).How have you been balancing these big tentpole franchises with projects that feel more niche and intimate?
I always lead with joy, and I’ve never accepted a job cynically. It goes back to this instinct—it feels like romance—where you have butterflies in your stomach and clarity of thought. I go back to the stage because I want to get better—and I want to be the best I can be. The best performances I’ve ever given on screen have been directly after coming off stage, where you hone your craft every single night. It’s brilliant, joyful, academic, and exhausting.
I’ve read more scripts in the last four years than probably in 20 years of working. It’s amazing to get sent scripts that you’re like, “This is absolutely brilliant. It’s not quite right for me, but I wonder if I can help that get made.” I’ve got a producer's hat that’s been popped on a few times in the last year, and I’m sure it’ll be coming out to play soon.
I want to keep working until something like Fellow Travelers isn’t seen as niche. We’re only on this planet for a short time, but if Fellow Travelers can be a mainstream show by the time I’ve finished my innings, I’d be very happy.
The last time Bridgerton viewers saw Anthony and Kate, they were on their way to India to meet with Kate’s family. Now that those characters are married, what are some of the new layers you’ve found in their relationship?
Anthony and Kate are these two planets that have always been in orbit of each other, and they finally come together. But then, what is life beyond [their courtship]? What’s so interesting about Anthony and what I so enjoyed in his season one arc is his relationship with duty and the power that he wielded over Daphne and his family, the isolation that he felt, and the anger that ensues because of [the passing of] his father.
I always said that you want Anthony to smile, and he does with Kate; he’s found his soulmate. In season three, they have that playfulness and, for the first time, they disregard anything that’s going on around them. They were the heart of every bit of drama and complication and, my God, how dramatic it was! Now suddenly, they’re having the time of their life, getting to play games again. They’re having a baby—everything they’ve ever wanted. What’s brilliant is to see how there are elements of yourself that you can’t grow out of. So, maybe, we’ll see hints of Anthony from season one.

Since I spent a couple months off and on looking for the strip that proves America is an Actor in the Hetaverse, let's talk about our head canons for other countries and how they may be famous. I have 2 others that I am like 100% positive on and that's England and Romano
Romano: Is an Opera singer. May go under a pseudonym but knowing him probably not. I do also think before his Opera career which is pretty recent when he lived with America for the few decades he was a crooner. I think that one he would have 100% done under a different name.
England: Is a reoccurring actor on the West End (The British Broadway). He does not go like for entire running's of a show but he does fill in and knows all the songs and lines for whatever part they want him to play that night. Not so much an understudy just they will bring him on for like a special night and it will get sold out minutes after it's announced England will be playing the lead that night. This is something he has being doing for a long awhile centuries maybe. I think he just really likes the theater.
I don't think every country likes the lime light. Like France for instance I think he just lives his life as like a normal guy for the most part. Maybe he will do like some tours every now and again but under a pseudonym.
Where Russia lives in complete isolation and is never seen like a cryptid. There may be stories like "One time fifty years ago my grandpa swears up and down he saw Russia fist fighting a grizzly bear in the woods behind our house But when he went to get his camera he was gone."
I think Italy is also just is a guy for the most part, but everyone knows who he is if that makes sense. The people of Italy know he is Italy and will greet him as such. But he just goes to the market and lives his life like a normal person. He will sit on the street corner painting and give away paintings to people. Like you'll see him and people will be like "Yeah that's Italy he's chill, I swear he used to work at the gelato shop under my apartment building, but that guy said his name was Feliciano or something like that I don't know, the resemblance was uncanny though."
I also think America loves the attention and dips his toes into everything. Not just acting. He directed that movie that we know of. We know he does commercials. I think he would also host award shows, stand up comedy, maybe going on the Tonight Show, SNL, featuring on some tracks with popular artists for a few bars (Not that I think he's a good singer but they can auto tune him J-Lo can't sing either but look at her go). Maybe he had a short lived country music career before he got bored. He has done Broadway a few times. You know just whatever he feels like. Maybe he plays on like the All-Star NBA team and Lebron tries to get a dunk on him. Basically if he's bored he'll just make a call and get in on something. Like what are they going to do tell him "No Mr. America you can't play basketball with us." No lol they will let him do whatever he wants and he'll sell out the crowd. Ever heard the USA chant? They made that for him.
Feel free to add to this all you want.

Another thought came.
Dean pretending not to be a swiftie with his swftie sister.
Dean pretends he doesn't care about Travis and Taylor's relationship when he probably watched the Superbowl with his little sister and hoped the Chiefs would win.
Dean pretends that he did learn the entire Eras Tour setlist because his sister is always listening to it and pretends that the playlist of songs that are played on the Impala is ONLY because his sister likes that music.
Dean pretends that he made friendship bracelets with his sister, Cas and Sam just so they don't have a bonding moment and not because he finds it funny and reminds him of his childhood.
Dean pretends he knows about Taylor's new album because his sister has been talking about it and not because Dean actually follows Taylor on Instagram.
I can do this with a broken heart it's so Dean Winchester 😭
Dean pretends he watched the Eras Tour film on Disney+ just because his sister was watching it and he definitely doesn't put it in his room when he's bored.
Finally, when his sister told him that her friend was sick and couldn't go to the Eras Tour with her, Dean obviously only went to accompany his sister and not because he really wanted to go and he was embarrassed to tell his sister that he wanted to go with her (the friend never really existed, the Winchester sister knows that Dean likes Taylor but she doesn't say anything so as not to make him uncomfortable)
Cas, Sam and Sister Winchester know that Dean likes Taylor but they don't say anything haha
Also I don't know why I feel like Sam likes rap, Sam is the type of person who would know the gossip about Drake and Kendrick and Sister Winchester is the swftie type who knows about Taylor and Joe or that Hayley Biber is pregnant
That's why on the impala you can listen to classic rock, the tortuerd poet deparment or they not like us
What music do you think each of the characters (Dean, Sam, Cas, Sister Winchester) listen to? I feel like Clarie is the type of person who says she doesn't like Taylor and that she's overrated and says, "Do you like Taylor Swift?"
This is literally gold, u love it
Dean would make a playlist of his favorite songs, or, as he’d say to the little sister, “songs that don’t make me want to kill myself” that he lets her play (and of course he’s secretly hoping that she’ll ask to play it)
Sam wouldn’t be a Taylor fan, although I think there would be a few songs (maybe 1989? He’s either a 1989 guy or a folklore/evermore poet boy, can’t decide) that he knows/enjoys when the sister plays them.
I think Cas would either have the most boring (classical) taste in music or the most random mix-up mashup collection of every genre, there’s no in between. Like he either only listens to Beethoven or he listens to anything and everything from Broadway to rock to Taylor Swift to pop etc etc etc
(he wants to get the full human experience. If he gets into Taylor he’s definitely a ttpd fan, maybe folklore and evermore, he enjoys the poetry of the songs)
Claire seems like the type to think Taylor’s overrated, I think you’re right about that.
Jack. Is. The. Biggest. Swiftie. Hands down, no doubt about it. He doesn’t understand the celebrity drama AT ALL, but he’s happy to listen to anyone’s rants and/or descriptions of what the songs mean/who they’re about. He likes all the albums, and the little sister has to tell him any time a new album/a Taylor’s Version drops, because he doesn’t know how to keep up with that stuff, but as soon as anything new drops he and the little sister sit in her room and spend the whole day listening to it. (Ps, he’s a Lover boy) Like Cas, Jack also loves to listen to all genres of music, trying to learn as much about people as he can.

How did Phantom ruin ALW and Sarah Brightman's marriage?
That's a sadder story than the Sunset Boulevard drama, unfortunately.
So, Sarah Brightman started out on the disco scene as a teen, where she was part of a group who had... this single. That was back when Star Wars: A New Hope had just come out, so you had a lot of space-inspired... stuff floating around. Yeah, let's put it that way.
youtube
Eventually, since disco was on its way out by the end of the 70s, she switched the musical theatre, and auditioned for a little musical called Cats.
(WHY DOES IT ALWAYS COME BACK TO CATS. OMG. NEXT THING I'LL KNOW I'LL FIND OUT JAMES CORDEN'S MOTHER GAVE BIRTH TO HIM DURING A CATS PERFORMANCE OR SOMETHING.)
So, ALW did not notice her during her time in Cats - it was later, in 1984, when she was in a production of a children's opera called Nightingale, which he saw because it was getting very good reviews. At the time, ALW was already considering making a musical based on The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux... but here's the thing. There were actually a few attempts at making a musical about Phantom. The most recent one at that time was Ken Hill's, which was playing in London in 1984. It was doing well-enough, to the point ALW went to see it with Cameron Mackintosh (for those who don't know, he's the producer for Les Mis and Phantom, and also Satan), they met up with Ken Hill, and they were allegedly impressed enough by it that they wanted to revamp the show and put it on a bigger stage.
EXCEPT THAT NEVER HAPPENED, AND ALW JUST WENT AHEAD AND WROTE HIS OWN THING, AND KEN HILL NEVER HEARD OF HIM EVER AGAIN.
(Side note: I've also seen a story going around that Sarah herself was approached for Ken Hill's musical, but I'd have to confirm that.)
Anyway, what happened is that ALW and Sarah really hit off, and when their relationship became public, it was all over the tabloids because they were both married at the time. So they left their respective spouses for each other, and got married not long after, and that's when the preparation for Phantom really started picking up.
If you read the novel and seen the musical, Christine does undergo a personality and appearance change: she's blonde in the novel, but she's brunette in the musical because Sarah is a brunette, and they made her a lot shyer and meek to fit her personality (and limited acting range according to some) better. What ALW wanted to do was to present his wife as a triple threat - she could sing and she had a classically trained soprano voice, she could dance (she was a trained ballet dancer and could go en pointe), and she could act (YMMV on that).
They presented the musical for the first time at the Sydmonton festival in 1985. For those who don't know, it's basically a vanity festival ALW hosts at his place where he presents his projects. It was VERY different from what it was going to be later. If you're ever curious, this is what it looked like (sorry for the terrible quality, it was a bootleg after all).
But all was not well in paradise, because making Phantom was a very grueling process for both of them. ALW was convinced the musical was going to flop, they'd argue, and Sarah would end up in tears more often than not. (And that's without mentioning the drama that happened with the lyrics, and with Hal Prince, and with Steve Harley who was supposed to play the Phantom before Michael Crawford came in, and how some people in the crew nicknamed Michael Crawford "Joan Crawford" because he was a bit of a diva, and I'm skipping a bunch lmao)
So Phantom opened in London in 1986 to great success, and even greater success on Broadway in 1988, but by then, the marriage was virtually over. Sarah and ALW separated in 1990, and her "goodbye gift" was starring in his follow-up musical, Aspects of Love... which flopped. And it's kind of a shame because her acting got a lot better in that (probably because of her own lived experiences lol).
youtube
Sarah has been doing pretty fine since, she had a successful solo singing career, and she almost went in space but had to cancel (still sad about that). As I mentioned before, I think ALW is not really over it (despite having re-married since, lmao) and LND is a result of that.
While I'm at it, that reminds me that LND came very close to never coming to the light, because in 2007, ALW's new kitten, Otto (WHICH IS THE BEST NAME FOR A KITTEN EVER), basically pawed around his electronic piano and deleted all of the music he had written for LND. I wish I was making this up, but I'm not.
I told you. It always comes back to cats.

5 things I want for Broadway's take on "Tangled"
Tumblr media
NGL, I am slightly surprised that "Tangled" is getting a Broadway adaptation before "Moana" and "Encanto," but I'm hoping it's success opens the door for more Broadway musicals taken from Disney's revival era (and maybe bring back "Frozen"). That said, as someone who is NOT the biggest fan of "Tangled," there are a few things I'd like to see changed in the stage version. I'll try not to make this a repeat of my post on how I'd change the movie itself, but it's similar:
Tumblr media
A more hesitant Rapunzel--As-is, she's a pretty complex character, but I feel like a lot of that is only utilized in the tower or in relation to Gothel. She's shown to be fiercely intelligent and have a lot of hobbies that she's mastered into talented skilled (baking, chess, pottery, painting, guitar, star charting, etc.), but it's mainly only shown in her intro song for how she kills time and how she knows about the floating light. She does keep herself busy in Corona, but her time there is relatively short, and her skillset is condensed to a musical sequence as before. I'd enjoy hearing more technological conversation from her or show how she navigates the forest, as I'd imagine she read as much as she could before going out into the world on how to survive and navigate, even if she mainly read books designed for entertainment rather than information. Along with this, I'd probably make her less innocent and bubbly--at least on the surface, presenting her as more aloof and tough because of how Gothel raised her, with her insecurities leading to a lot of trust issues that make her very antisocial and not trust Flynn at all. I felt like the "innocent young girl with a jaded older guy" trope is very played out. Speaking of, I'd probably make her older than 18 and and make Flynn only a couple years older than her at most. And I kinda want her in a new dress since her canon one feels a bit costume-y.
Tumblr media
2. Make Flynn someone to take seriously--I've mentioned before that I'm not a fan of they sympathetic thief trope, and that Flynn never comes off as cool or charming as he's supposed to be (we never see his charms work off, actually; according to when Rapunzel meets him, he's having an off day apparently), instead feeling a lot goofier. Similar to how Rapunzel is more reserved and tough, Flynn is more suave and capable, more focused on clever lines than quipping one-liners. Make him feel somewhat threatening and dangerous since he's a thief, and fueling Rapunzel's mistrust. A thing I'd also like to focus on more is his past and how he changes for Rapunzel. I like the idea that he sees the "Mother Knows Best (Reprise)" sequence from afar, and realizes that Rapunzel may only like him because he's not a good person, as people in abusive relationships may hop into another one, and vows to be someone who can protect her and care for her properly as he realizes he loves her, and has previously taken advantage of her in order to try to manipulate her into getting the crown back. I'd also like if he talked about his past periodically rather than just once after Rapunzel heals him; I need a recurring story rather than just a quick backstory that explains why you became pessimistic about the world (unless it's told through an ACTUAL flashback instead of just dialogue, similar to Nick Wilde's backstory in "Zootopia"). Perhaps put it into a song, and I was always weird about Flynn Rider being a fake name, especially since it doesn't affect the story; if you wanna highlight his insecurities, there are other ways to do so besides a fake name.
Tumblr media
3. Give Gothel more songs (and perhaps make her a bit less over the top)--Given that Broadway musicals add songs, I doubt I have to worry about Gothel not getting to sing some more, but something I do kinda want is less over the top behavior with Rapunzel. I assume it's done to show the audience that she's clearly the villain and understand that she's manipulating Rapunzel, but I enjoy the more subtle moments. For example, right before the reprise of "Mother Knows Best," Gothel told Rapunzel that she found her by listening to the sound of "complete and utter betrayal." I'm sure some parents actually say stuff like this, but it sounded too obvious. However, afterwards, when she sings, it feels more legitimate, like she's actually angry, sarcastic, and frustrated (ironically during a big number). I'd enjoy more moments where her being a toxic parent are less obvious and are more subtle, personally. And ACTUALLY, someone once asked if "Mother Knows Best" (Reprise) was all in Rapunzel's head, and I do kinda like the idea that Gothel has made Rapunzel so insecure that she just has to wait for Rapunzel to unravel rather than directly intervene.
Tumblr media
4. Make the Stabbington Brothers more important--Like I've said before, Flynn doesn't really have an obstacle or antagonist, as the brothers quickly become henchmen to Gothel, who she double-crosses when they fulfill her goal. In other words, despite originally being villains for Flynn, they end up not affecting his story on their own accord, but are pawns of Rapunzel's story. If we expanded on Flynn's past and lean into the fairy tale aspect, I kinda like the idea that they're his stepbrothers. And if we borrow from Flynn's prototype Bastion (who wanted to get out of being a thief rather than enjoying it), Flynn could just be forced to be a thief and manipulated emotionally like Rapunzel into believing he isn't going to survive on his own unless his does as his family asks.
Tumblr media
5. Stay in Corona longer--I always hated how little time they spent in Corona, with most of the film taking place in the forest. I'd like for Rapunzel to have more time there to learn and explore her skills and interests (slowly becoming more social), kinda like how Ariel did in Eric's kingdom during her three days. I like the idea that Rapunzel periodically sees Gothel here and there but just tells herself she's going crazy, and Flynn has the same experience with the Stabbington brothers.

So I had wrote out a massive paragraph talking about different songs that I hoped might inspire you for Nonviolent Communication regarding Gabriella and Miguel
However, tumblr had other ideas and decided to reload and delete all of my hard work.
So first things first, highly recommend you check out the song Happy/Sad by Nathan Lane featured in the Adams Family Movie where Gomez is singing to Wednesday about growing up because to me it reminds me of how Miguel would react to Gabriella and we all know Miguel is very Gomez coded.
Secondly, because tumblr’s cruelties, I just said fuck it and rather typing out every single song for you to go back and forth listening to I just made a playlist.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/74RQFVEFTmHizHTshKg5dS?si=mFg1O5fHTLy226vYohjnUw
Here is the link to it, I made it especially for you.
Last thing before I go.
Y/N x Miguel especially for NVC

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.
Trust me.
Rue... I'm sitting here first of all, feeling so touched about the playlist!!! As Dr. Doofenshmirtz (Phineas and Ferb) once said, if I had a nickel for every time someone made a music playlist for one of my writing projects, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird (AWESOME) that it happened twice!!! EEEEEEEE, THANK YOU OMG!!!!!!! You're the second person that's made one for me in almost 10 years (the first being my best friend for an old fanfic back in the wattpad days)!!!
Second... Rue!!!!!! I swear there's only like 13 songs I don't recognize at all, but the rest are in my liked songs already!!! The following songs: - "Isn't She Lovely" - "Your Song" - "Slipping Through My Fingers" (OH MY GOD HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT THIS SONG FOR NC!?!?!?! IT BREAKS MY HEART EVERY TIME, I'M LITERALLY CRYING RN 😭😭) - "Butterfly Fly Away" - "Chiquitita" (no bc how do you know I'm a big fan of ABBA???? I love them and this song!!!) - "Thank You For The Music" - "Tu Sangre en Mi Cuerpo" (girl, you listen to Pepe Aguilar?? I'M SHOOK!!! And now I'm imagining Miguel and Gabby singing this together, brb... gonna go cry again😭) - "Matilda" (no, the way I was listening to this song the other day and thinking about Miguel??? "You can let it go/you can throw a party full of everyone you know/and not invite your family, cause they never showed you love" and "you can start a family who will always show you love/you don't have to be sorry for doing it on your own" tell me this isn't Miguel!! 😭😭I was already thinking of adding this one for a future chapter) - "Beautiful Boy" - "Yellow" - "The Scientist" - "Rivers and Roads"(I heard this one again a few days ago while on shuffle, and I was thinking this would be a good song for NC, hehe!) - "Promise" (this Laufey song always gets me omg) - "Pluto Projector" - "Heart To Heart" (one of my favs by DeMarco) - "Are you Lonesome Tonight?" (one of my fav songs by Presley, period!! Always gets me emotional) - "Ma Belle Evangeline" (The Princess and the Frog is one of my fav princess movies ever (probably the second; it switches with Rapunzel; depends on the day) and I love this song by Ray!!) - "Recuerdame" (YOU CAME STRAIGHT FOR ME WITH THIS ONE AND I WAS THINKING ABOUT ADDING IT BUT THEN DECIDED AGAINST IT BECAUSE I KNEW I WAS GOING TO CRY HARDER IF I DID😭😭😭😭)
these songs literally have me like this rn âŹ‡ïž
Tumblr media
ALSO NOT "CHASING CARS" PLSSSSSS THAT SONG ALWAYS MAKES ME WANT TO CRY WITHOUT FAILURE - it's nearly 1am and I'm listening to it now and trying not to cry about it (again) AHHHH BUT YOU'RE SO RIGHT - IT'S FITTING!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm def adding some of these, Rue!!!!! Thank you for making this playlist for me, I'm so happy right now 😭😭 This was so sweet of you!!! Also, I'm sorry Tumblr messed up your post!! I've seen some people complain about tumblr doing that to them, it sucks!!!
But THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I LOVE THIS PLAYLIST!!!! I hope you're having a wonderful week so far, Rue!!! đŸ’•đŸ’•đŸ«¶đŸŒđŸ„č

Title: In Midnights, In Cups of Coffee Characters/Pairings: Evan Buckley/Tommy Kinard Rating: Teen for language. Genre: Angst, fluff, queer themes. Summary: Movie nights are mostly held at Tommy’s place for several reasons.
Mostly, though, Buck gravitates towards Tommy’s house more and more these days because Tommy’s house feels more like home. He loves cuddling with Tommy on the couch, the two of them sharing a couple of beers and some popcorn, and sometimes a blanket thrown over them. Honestly? Movie nights with Tommy might be Buck’s favorite place in the world.
--
Buck and Tommy watch Rent together and have a lot of feelings about it and each other.
Notes: Title comes from "Seasons of Love" from Rent.
This was written for bucktommy positivity week, prompt one: what they love most about each other and after I got inspired by listening to "Seasons of Love" and getting caught up in my Rent feelings! This could probably technically also apply to the hobbies and dates prompt but I have another fic I'm working on for that one. :3
There are spoilers for Rent overall and implied death of a character from Rent but nothing explicit.
For @bucktommypositivityweek prompt one: What they love most about each other.
In Midnights, In Cups of Coffee
Buck’s never been totally into musicals but he also hasn’t totally disliked them, either. Maddie used to play some Broadway soundtracks when she would drive him to school; she was really into Phantom of the Opera and something about some guy stealing a loaf of bread and miserable people, from what he remembers. He might have given her some good old fashioned Brotherly Teasing about her taste in music every now and then but he always preferred her taste in music to that of his parents, the most stale white bread of WASP easy listening that he’s fairly certain they play on an endless loop on Spotify in Hell. If Hell exists, that is.
There were other musicals, too; he memorized the lyrics to “Defying Gravity” unintentionally with how often Maddie played the Wicked soundtrack in the car. He may or may not have sometimes mumbled the lyrics to himself in the shower when he needed a moment to stop thinking about the weight of his parents looking right through him.
But overall, yeah, no. Buck’s never considered himself much of a musical person. Hen is the one who tells him about Rent after a particularly long and draining shift. She tells him that she thinks he’ll like it, and that he better text her immediately with all of his feelings after he watches the movie or listens to the soundtrack. (Hen insists he does both, and she also insists that he watch the live concert special that played on TV. But, also, he damn well better text her once he educates himself!)
So tonight, for movie night with Tommy, Buck suggests Rent as their movie of choice. Usually he’s happy to go along with whichever movie Tommy suggests, glad to continue his “cinematic education” as Tommy calls it. Tommy seems happy to go along with Buck’s suggestion; he nods and comments on how he always meant to get around to watching Rent himself but struggled and ultimately set it aside for later while he was still fighting his way out of the closet. (And this is one of Buck’s favorite things about Tommy; he’ll reveal himself through conversation, letting Buck get to know him on a deeper, more intimate level, without any expectation or pressure for Buck to reciprocate, although, of course, Buck always tries to do so, wanting to meet Tommy where he is.)
Movie nights are mostly held at Tommy’s place for several reasons: Tommy has the larger, more comfortable couch (Buck could seriously live in those cushions for days, if not years, and has fallen asleep easily in the middle of a movie on more than one occasion), Tommy has the actual collection of movies, both physical and otherwise, and Tommy has the better television.
Tonight, they have Tommy’s favorite craft beer, a local brewery that specializes in utilizing local ingredients and combining them into unique flavors that even Buck has to admit taste pretty damn amazing. Tommy is slowly but surely is weaning him off of his “frat boy” beers, talking about the benefits of craft beer every chance he gets. His enthusiasm for craft beer in the way he talks about ingredients with his hands and the way he shares all of the details about the history of all his favorite brands is as convincing as the taste of the beer itself, honestly. And Buck adores Tommy for it, so the fact that they have his favorite craft beer for a movie night in which Buck picks the movie? Means the world to Buck. And judging from the way Tommy’s eyes, so blue and so mesmerizing, linger on him, his face scrunched up in a smile? Buck likes to believe he isn’t the only one.
Buck cooks fried mac and cheese rolls for their movie snack; seeing his cooking efforts next to Tommy’s beer warms him like he’s just spent the day out in the August sun, trying to catch some waves with salt water clinging to his skin. He can’t keep from smiling at the sight; the way both the food and the drinks spell out home without words.
Tommy turns to him, leaning in close to press a soft, sweet kiss to his lips. “I think we’re in for our best movie night yet,” he says, looking like a Botticelli angel in the glow of the lamps on his side tables, his hair curly and free of product and his perfect mouth wide in a soft, tender smile. And he’s all Buck’s; Buck gets to have him all to himself. He leans in for another kiss, just because.
“I think you’re right,” Buck tells him, pulling back to settle into the couch. Tommy grabs his hand, intertwining their fingers together, as he settles himself and presses play on the movie.
Buck has chills from the opening scene and the opening song; a brightness like hope unfurls within his soul, fluttering upwards with each lyric sung and the beginning of the story unfolding. Just from the words alone, he feels seen. Tommy’s hand squeezes his; out of the corner of his eyes, he catches sight of the same kind of brightness in Tommy’s eyes.
Rent unfolds like a kaleidoscope; vivacious and full of soul, a cry of defiance and a love story – an utter act of the opposite of war. Buck finds himself unable to look away, greedily drinking in every song and every scene as though this story and these characters are the gold turning the cracks in his soul into art. He leans his head onto Tommy’s shoulder, wanting to soak up all of this with the man he loves. Tommy leans his head against Buck’s; Buck feels Tommy’s smile pressing into the side of his head the same way Mimi asks Roger to light her candle and the same way Angel and Collins promise to cover each other.
Buck sees himself in Maureen; he sees himself in Mimi. He seems himself in Roger and Mark, and he sees himself in Angel and Collins. He feels seen; free. This is community; this is love. You don’t find it son; you make it.
By the time “I’ll Cover You (Reprise)” comes around, Buck is a complete wreck; tears falling like heavy rain down his face as he shakes, the hand that isn’t clinging desperately to Tommy’s pressing against his own face as though he might be able to press his grief back into himself and swallow it down. Tommy’s tears land on his shirt just as his own land on Tommy’s. He holds onto Angel, Collins, and their love for one another the way he holds onto Tommy’s hands.
By the time the movie ends and the credits roll, Buck feels both hollowed out and also renewed; the glass half-empty but also half-full. His whole face feels raw; hell, his whole soul feels raw. He feels alive but also like he’s just risen from the dead after having his heart torn to shreds.
Silence lingers between them, charged and crackling, like embers about to turn even more incendiary. Buck is about to make an attempt to speak when Tommy speaks first.
“I can’t believe it took me so long to watch Rent,” Tommy admits, pulling back to meet Buck’s gaze directly. “I feel like I really could have used that movie when I was younger.” He speaks into words the exact feelings Buck finds himself wrestling with internally; he can’t help but turn to glance up at Tommy, agreement shining in his tear-stained eyes and equally tear-stained smile. He feels like a complete mess but Tommy, pressing a kiss into the top of his head, likes him anyway. He’s the luckiest man in the whole goddamned world.
“Yeah,” he says, nodding. “I think I could have used that movie when I was younger, too.” Maybe he would have understood his bisexuality sooner; maybe he would’ve only felt a spark leading to a fireworks revelation (or fake mouth static by way of helicopter rescue) later on in life. But he wonders how his life would have turned out if his younger self learned that family can be people you choose; that creation is so much more potent than self-destruction. He wonders if maybe he could have saved himself some trouble and a few scars along the way.
Tommy squeezes Buck’s hand before bringing it up to his mouth to press a kiss against the back of it; Buck shivers in response. Tommy leans in and kisses him softly; Buck returns the kiss with a quiet gasp of relief. Tommy comforts him, sturdy and warm like a weighted blanket. (Also, he realizes, he owes Hen at least two rounds of wine and beer and a college essay worth of texts summing all of his big damn feelings about Rent.)
“Thank you for suggesting Rent for movie night,” Tommy tells him, earnest and soft. “Can I pay you back in a thousand sweet kisses?”
Buck laughs, tilting forward to press his forehead against Tommy’s. He squeezes their hands together again.
“Only if I can pay you back in five hundred twenty-five thousand and six hundred kisses myself.”

Hi! As you can probably guess, I completely love Chaos, and I have a few more questions. Thanks for the playlist by the way, it’s been all I’ve listened to since you linked it. Sorry for all the questions, I’m just curious.
1) In the Spotify playlist, the first song is “Sea, swallow me”. Is that song referenced somewhere in the fic, or does it just give off a general Chaos vibe? I’ve been trying to remember if it was mentioned somewhere but cant recall. As an additional Note, it is my new favourite song, so thanks!
2) You mentioned that all the OCs appearances are physically based on real people. Who are Dr Zypher, Emiliana and Holly-Jane based on? Is Emiliana based off of Eva Green, because thats how I imagine her. You’ve done an excellent job with the OCs, they’re just so perfect.
3) When you describe clothing, do you make them up in your mind or doe they actually exist? I get that some, like the custom ordered dresses in the latest chapter, must be made up, but are some of them real? Do you have some Pinterest board with all of their clothes just to keep track? 😂
4) How do you find time to write? I write 1000 words for my fic every day, and it takes me about an hour. 50K chapters in 2 weeks is a miracle. Do you sleep?
I’ve probably forgotten a question or two, so I hope you don’t mind if I ask more in the future😅
Thank you for all you do, I’ve never been so invested in a fic before. Just remember to relax and take breaks when you need it, don’t force yourself to write on 2 hours sleep!
I am happy to answer questions about Chaos for the Fly, the writing process, and other fic/writing related things. Thank you for your interest! 1. I think I referenced near the beginning somewhere that Wednesday had discovered some music on her own outside of classical when she accepted an algorithm to suggest songs for her. It had been 80s imports of some kind - and that was probably the one that I had in mind, even if it wasn’t mentioned specifically. There’s probably a few songs that weren’t actually mentioned by name but were alluded to in the fic - meaning I didn’t say the title in dialogue, but had something playing in the background for myself, and there you have it. 2. You have opened a VERY DANGEROUS can of worms with this question, lmfao.
Tumblr media
You are a dead ringer for Emiliana! That’s Eva Green, 100%, the ONLY person who could play the role. It would be like a touch of Penny Dreadful for the out-of-her-damn-mind demon possession vibes, but mostly, just as herself (she’s cray and I love how socially awkward and accidentally funny she is in interviews) not so much Vanessa Ives. Eva Green has worked with Tim Burton a ton of times and wouldn’t even need a single line of direction in this role. Emi is SO easy to write because she is pure chaos both in physicality, mentally, her linguistics, her magic, and personality. I honestly think she’s one of the characters I’m saddest isn’t real because she’d fit in to drive Wednesday absolutely MAD as her big bird. I have a feeling we’re not going to explore Raven lore in S2 and the two of them trying to figure out their powers together, after Emiliana spent half her life suffering alone, has been some of my favorite parts of the fic to write. I always write scenes with Emiliana the fastest. Her love of Beanie Babies and bad influence is entirely, too much fun. Her voice is so easy and she will never truly understand American idioms.
Tumblr media
Dr. Zypher is AMY ADAMS, because GAY-ME, for Amy Adams. She’d absolutely crush the role, the fact that she doesn’t have a closet full of Oscars is just despicable (6 time nominee bro). SHE HAS THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL and I don’t think anyone ever lets her sing enough in movies. Put this woman in some broadway revival of an old musical and you’ll catch me personally saving the economy from collapse by taking the train up to see her every weekend. She's so adaptable and different in any role, and I just feel like she’d volley SO WELL with JO’s Wednesday. She's a professional who understands character layers that sweet and angsty Josie requires.
Tumblr media
Dr. Holly is Emily Blunt plucked right from the Jungle Cruise movie in terms of how she’s styled but a far cry from her character there with her boldness - even if they would likely have competing career ambitions. ALSO HAVE YOU SEEN EMILY BLUNT IN ALL THE SUITS IN THE NEW NETFLIX PAIN HUSTLER MOVIE? I’m deceased. This is a ghost writing. Holly is really in the story 1) because I needed a plot line for Larissa, post-transformation, that didn’t involve Wednesday and was TRAGIC but beautiful and could GO SOMEWHERE, and2) we REALLY do need something to stabilize the molecular structure of shifting-type Outcasts, and 3) it helped give some context as to how desperate Larissa was to hire Normie "Thornhill" and why she took that chance against her usually better judgement- so there she was! Emily Blunt is a CLASS. ACT. In everything she does and I imagine her in a scene with Gwendoline COULD NEVER exist because it would be too powerful, solve all the world’s problems, and capitalism would break, societies would collapse. It could never happen. It wouldn’t be safe. Here’s her glow up, from fresh-out-of-the jungle, to letting Larissa buy her some new clothes and maybe letting her hair down every now and then, to nerdy botanist bombshell, at the New Nevermore Network, helping her girl rebuild things to be a more fair society for Outcasts. GORGE.
ARE THESE ALL JUST WOMEN IN THEIR MID 40s THAT I HAVE A BIG LESBIAN CRUSH ON? YEAH, YEAH THEY ARE. There’s obviously more for staff at Nevermore and the Network but I have a solid 5k to get to writing still this evening. The rest of my OCs are pretty minor (well villain aside), and I don’t really care enough about any man to spend the time looking for pictures of /boys/. These are the 3 OCs that are featured the most, anyway. Some day I’ll find enough energy to do the rest. I have extreme face-blindness when I read, and the ONLY WAY I can thusly write an OC is if my beta makes a powerpoint presentation for me with an actor/ress in mind for me to visualize in the role. When I tell ya, she hit the nail on the head with those three above? Unbelievable.  Another favorite not-OC, but someone I HARDCORE RECASTED FOR THIS would be Granny Frump. We went from Margaret Hamilton (OG Wicked Witch of the West from Wizard of Oz) in the 1960s Addams Family, which is EXCELLENT CASTING, but to fit the more modern-era Wednesday 2022 adaptation, and to give a flair of the drama as to perhaps where Morticia “gets it from,” I decided to cast someone only two years older than Catherine Zeta-Jones to give that “Frump Homespun Magic” storyline some weight of ‘the potions and beauty charms work’ and went with a non-actress, for the aesthetics (though she could KILL IT her appearances are small), and that is the one and only, What Not To Wear’s Stacy London.
Tumblr media
Like IMAGINE that matching vibe with CZJ’s Morticia? Stacy has similar build/some features in common, and with the all black hair BUT WITH HER SIGNATURE gray stripe? Iconic. (And that was also Grandpa “Clint’s” backstory last chapter, as in Stacy and Clinton’s dramatic saga. HEY - IF YOU DONT HAVE INSIDE JOKES WITH YOUR BETA in your writing, what’s the point??) Stacy’s voice and CZJ’s Morticia voice together would be SO GRATING and Wednesday would just be so in-her-element between them, I LIVE.  3. I usually just visualize what I’d want the characters to wear! I don’t often have picture inspiration - though sometimes I am writing and it says in bold highlight DESCRIBE THE DRESS - TRACEY FIND ME A DRESS, and she sends me some pictures to go through so I can just describe a garment without having to make it up. I don’t have a Pinterest I’d be willing to share. It’s just a binder full of women in a way that would probably unsettle most.
4. I usually write about 2-2.5k an hour if that is all I’m focused on. I probably average 4-9k on a work day without a second job or social obligation after work, and the most I’ve ever written on a single day that I had no work, other ‘sponserbilities, or social plans was 21k. On an average weekend with like one thing to do during the day and some chores and relaxation time not writing, I probably go around 14-16k per day. At the same time I started this fic, I set a new year resolution to myself to only work my contracted hours, so with the exception of a few crazy times in the school year - like conferences - I work from 8:00-15:30 M-F, and I live a three minute walk from my school, so I don’t even lose time commuting. I also stopped working on weekday evenings on the side in August, and starting in 2024 will not be doing any extra side work at all. I don’t sleep great but I do try! :) Thanks for the questions! I've been meaning to give some faces to those 3 OCs. I strongly encourage you to print out pictures of them and post them on your fridge, you will be 100% happier if you do.

Barbatos 🌂
Okay so forgive me because all I could think of when I saw this was how much Barbatos probably enjoys the musical Singin' in the Rain. I feel like he secretly (not so secretly?) is a huge broadway/live theater fan. He certainly has memorized the main dance number.
So I'm using this as an excuse to do an entirely indulgent Bros + Extras HC post:
What is their favorite musical?
Lucifer: Les Misérables. Happy endings where? He appreciates the nuanced plot and relates to all the bullshit the leads have to deal with. He gets teary at the end but will never let a soul see. Except perhaps you. Perhaps.
Mammon: Newsies. A bunch of scrappy up start business boys coming together to demand some extra coin for their hard work? What’s not to like? I mean, if you asked him he’d deny enjoying musicals at all, but we’ve all heard him singing the lyrics under his breath.
Leviathan: Six. History but turned into an idol concert? His dream. For a period he got way into learning everything there was to know about Henry VIII’s six wives and he and Satan were insufferable, spouting facts to anyone who would listen.
Satan: Phantom of the Opera. A classic, and for a reason. He admires the impact it had on contemporary theater and he claims to relate to the Phantom
but you know better. Once he admitted to you that his real favorite was Wicked, and you suspect he sees himself in Elphaba more than he may be ready to admit.
Asmodeus: Chicago, of course. Razzle Dazzle? When You’re Good to Mama? CELL BLOCK TANGO? This is the most Asmo-coded musical to ever grace the stage. You know he’s just WAITING for the excuse to force his brothers to dress up and perform with him. He'd be satisfied if you'd settle for a private performance as well.
Beelzebub: Beel has a hard time with live theater, because it’s a long time to sit without any concessions to get him through. Watching a performance on TV or as a movie though he’s happy with. His personal favorite is Peter Pan. He likes the Lost Boys the best, a group of brothers all happy together (and Wendy too of course). Also, he knows it doesn't count...but that food scene in Hook? Nice.
Belphegor: Heathers. What can he say, he likes the bitchiness. Also he always thought J.D kinda had a point. He likes to imagine that he and Veronica blow up the school and run away together to live happily ever after in a sort of a twisted Bonnie and Clyde way. Anyway, how about those uniforms? Any chance of you wearing one of those sometime ha ha
?
Diavolo: The Lion King. Oh man oh man Diavolo loves The Lion King. Does he frequently tease Barbatos (and sometimes Lucifer) about being his Zazu? Absolutely. Was Nala his first not-so-secret crush? Oh yes. Does he wish he had a dad like Mufasa?
Well, let’s not worry about that. Diavolo loves every minute of the play, but he openly weeps at the end when Simba takes his place as king.
Barbatos: Singin’ in the Rain. The classic aesthetic, themes of struggling with adjustment in a changing world, a triumphant ending...it's a bit of an escapism pleasure for Barbatos. Not to mention, he's happy for any excuse to dress up and go out on the town with you on his arm.
Solomon: Moulin Rouge. Solomon is a romantic at heart, but he’s a romantic who knows that all too often, romances are tragedies wearing a mask. He enjoys indulging in the sweetness of the love story, the hopeful crescendo, before the fall into the reality of loss. He finds it depressing in a comforting way, like an old friend waving hello from across the street. As time with you goes on however, he finds it’s becoming harder to watch through to the end
Perhaps Beauty and the Beast is more to his new tastes?
Simeon: Waitress. Simeon, like Lucifer and Solomon, enjoys the bittersweetness. He likes that it doesn’t shy away from the messiness of human connection. As an angel, it’s fascinating, like a fruit he can never know the flavor of. However, unlike the other men, Simeon likes a happy ending, and the ending of Waitress makes him choke up for different reasons. If Luke asks, however, his favorite is Matilda.
Luke: Annie. Little kids being rascals and naughty with the sweetness of a tender adoption story? It makes him feel warm and fuzzy (and mischievous) every time. Knows all the words to every song though he won’t admit it in front of Mammon.

I’m in the Lempicka discord server. I was scrolling through and one person commented about Sunday’s closing show and said she was sitting next to someone who had never seen it before, and how strange that experience must have been, to see it for the first time on its closing.
I don’t know if I was that person, but I did see it for the first time on Sunday 5/19. I’ve been struggling with finding the right words to describe it, and I’ve been angry with myself about it, but I think I can muddle my way through it now.
I don’t like to be “spoiled” before seeing a show, especially one I’m really invested in. So I didn’t go out seeking audios or videos or plot points or summaries or anything for Lempicka. Originally I was going to see it with my sister on 5/25. And then I had plans to get more tickets and see it more times. Getting tickets to closing was a separate panicked adventure.
What I knew of Lempicka before walking into the Longacre theater on 5/19: Woman Is; sapphic love; Polish-American art deco painter; I knew it would be my new obsession
Walking in and seeing all of the community, younger and older queers, all emotional, crying, rallying around each other
I had never been in an environment like that before. Never. And I felt a bit out of place because I didn’t know the show like they did, I didn’t know the actors and characters and creative team. I didn’t know the fans. I felt out of place, but I also felt welcomed, if that makes sense.
I had gifted my second ticket to someone who had been very involved in the fan community, so they talked with me, introduced me to other people. Let me cry on her shoulder, grab her hand during Act II when Things Happened and I wasn’t at all prepared for them.
I was sobbing at Unseen. I sobbed through most of this show - when I wasn’t laughing or having a very real Gay Panic moment for Amber Iman (seriously she took my breath away and it punched me in the gut).
These were body-wracking tears. Holding myself, shoulders shaking, trying to be as quiet as possible as I was thrown down this emotional rollercoaster, this beautiful and heartbreaking and innovative show.
I didn’t know what to do with myself at intermission. I mostly just stood while Rosie talked with other people. I spoke with her a little about shared trauma. They listened to me, I listened to them.
Second act killed me. Like I didn’t know anything, it was great and then it was painful and then it was over and everything hurt. Everything hurt.
I want so much more for this musical. I want it in the West End. I want a proshot. I want the cast album to win a Grammy. I want like fifteen different lyric tattoos from this show, three fine line outline tattoos of naked women, I want this show to take off and I want Broadway producers to go fuck themselves and learn a proper lesson.
I don’t know what I meant for when I started this post. Probably not where I ended up. But I’m too exhausted and devastated to think clearly. And I never clean up tumblr posts because why, it’s my own brain dump. Anyway. Please cry with me about Lempicka but also understand that I’m a baby about it and I don’t know much more than one closing performance but my love for it is there.

28.
1) If you had to make a six hour cross-country journey, would you rather take the train, fly or drive? How come?
You cannot travel across my country in 6 hours in any way. - this.
2) How long do your earphones tend to last before the connection goes and you have to replace them?
I use headphones, not earphones, but connection going hasn't been a reason I've needed to replace them. I'm on my third pair of the same type. First ones fell in the toilet, second accidentally fell in a bucket of water. Other than accidental things like that happening, nothing goes wrong with them. They'll cut out if I'm a certain distance away from the device I'm using, but it's a decent range before that happens.
3) If you could dye your hair any colour in the world, assuming it would look perfect with your colouring, what would you pick and why?
The next time I need to do it it's either gonna be Ariel from the little Mermaid shade of red or some shade of pink.
4) Are you a fan of musicals? If you are, what ones have you seen live and which ones would you like to see?
I fucking love musicals! I used to be so passionate about musical/live theatre and I miss it so much. If I had opportunities to get back into acting I'd take them in two seconds. I've seen lots of musicals. Not big productions on Broadway, but I really want to! I love Rent, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Annie. I ended up getting a copy of the Tina Turner musical from someone on Reddit after I couldn't get tickets. (Yes I know. Bootlegging is bad. I hate it and would rather not. Creators should be paid what they're worth, but I tried to get tickets for multiple different dates and they had no accessible seats.) The quality was actually really decent and it's an awesome production. If they come back around, I will definitely try to get tickets again and go and actually experience it. The standing ovation at the end was a good six minutes. It was warranted.
5) If money was no object, and you could go on a two-week vacation with one other person, who would you take, where would you go and what would you get upto?
Babe. She would probably want to go to Italy. I want to travel basically anywhere and everywhere, but my first stop would be South Africa. What we get up to would depend on which of those places we went first, but I'm down for all kinds of things. Literally anything as long as it's accessible to me or we can make it that way. Also just a lot of time together wherever we're staying. Sleeping in, lazing around, eating good food. Lots of sex.
6) Are you someone who needs to have time alone?
Oh, Christ, yes. I do have too much of it now, but I don't do well with the other extreme of constantly being surrounded by others either.
7) What’s your opinion on couples who do literally everything together? Are you like that, or is that like one of your worst nightmares?
I don't have opinions on relationships I'm not a part of, people can do what they want and what works for them. Gf and I are long distance and not together all the time. Our relationship is also open and she has one other partner, so we are not like this. I don't think we would be even if we closed things again in the future and lived nearer to each other. I would go do things with my friends or see certain people in my family and there would most likely be times she didn't feel like joining me. Not a big deal. I would obviously invite her often, but I think it's very healthy to have your own things going on independent of each other and miss each other a little bit.
8) Have you ever had to give up something you were addicted to? Did you actually succeed?
I wasn't necessarily addicted, I wasn't getting falling down drunk or drinking copious amounts, but I drank every day for a year after my Nan died as a way to cope. Daily alcohol consumption was never my normal. I didn't completely quit drinking, I just quit using it as a daily coping mechanism.
9) Does your favourite food vary depending on your mood or on the time of year or anything?
I have two favourite foods that never change - (homemade) mac and cheese and pizza, and then a bunch of favourites that I do cycle through often.
10) Do you know anyone whose views/opinions are the complete opposite of yours? Do you find it hard to get on with them as a result, or can you generally ignore it and find something else to talk about?
My entire family, basically. I find it hard to get along with some of them, not necessarily just because their opinions are opposite to mine. Yes, I can tune it out and put on a good face. You learn to when you don't have much support and your physical situation doesn't really give you the choice to do anything other than that. I can find some kind of common ground with just about anyone, even if it's small, superficial things.
11) Have you ever had to work (or study) with someone that you really didn’t get along with? How did you deal with it (ignoring them, being nice, etc.)?
Yes. I treated them the way I would want to be treated and otherwise ignored them and got on with what I needed to do.
12) Have you ever had any problems with your wisdom teeth, or have they been taken out already?
I've not had them taken out.
13) Which one of your senses would you miss the most if you lost it?
Sight.
14) Do you ever listen to CDs anymore?
I still have my collection, but nothing to play it on.
15) What’s your favourite type of fast food? Is it something you eat a lot or do you try and limit it?
Pizza or Mexican. I don't eat any fast food often because I can't go out on my own, I can't afford it all the time and there's very few good options that deliver in my tiny ass area.
16) Do you find your mood changes when you’re hungry or tired? Does eating or sleeping automatically cure your of a bad mood?
Bro, when Nippy was a baby, there was a period where I was hardly sleeping and omg, it was something else. I cried all the time and was overthinking the craziest shit. Gf was genuinely worried at times, I think. She would listen to me cry and read my bubbles of text and just gently be like 'yeah, okay. It's okay. It'll be fine. You really just need to get some sleep.' Once that actually happened I realized how much better I felt.
17) When you see cute animals, do you just wanna pick them up and cuddle them or fuss them?
ALWAYS! 😍😍
18) What’s the stupidest fight you’ve ever gotten into? Did you make up with that person or did you end up losing them over it?
Babe and I have had some pretty bad times. We worked through them. We're doing amazing.
19) Do you find yourself using people as footrests and pillows if you’re sat next to them?
No.
20) Have you ever gotten really bad travel sickness? Has this put you off travelling or going by certain modes of transport in case it happens again?
I did when I was a kid. I always used to get carsick.
21) What’s your opinion on prostitution? Should it be legal and regulated, or is it something that needs to be gotten rid of completely?
I'm not getting into my opinions on this right now.
22) If it was a case of prostitution or being evicted from your home, which option would you pick (assuming you’d tried everything else to make money first)?
23) What would go into your ideal sandwich? Do you eat that often or is a treat for you?
I eat sandwiches often. Usually toasted fried egg ones with cheese, ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, German salami and cheese.
24) In general do you prefer modern art or more traditional art? Or do you really not care?
I prefer all kinds of art.
25) If you want (or don’t want) kids, is this something you’ve always known or have you changed your mind as you’ve grown up?
I always knew I wanted kids. I can't have them, though. :(
26) Do you believe “once a criminal, always a criminal” or do you think that people can really change and become better?
I don't believe once a criminal always a criminal, but I also don't believe all people can or will change and become better.
27) Have you ever read a quote or a poem and really connected with it?
Many times.
28) What’s something that really puts you off a person (bad hygiene, whatever)? Are you willing to look past that in order to get to know them properly?
If they're a close minded asshole, if they shit on other people's happiness or passion, self centeredness, pathological lying, general lack of empathy.
29) Are you into piercings and tattoos? If not, do you judge people who are, and vice versa?
I love tattoos and have two. Want at least two more. No longer have piercings, but nothing against them at all. I don't think it's anyone's place to judge what another person does with their own body. You can be against something all you want for your own. Don't project that onto others.
30) What’s your opinion on places like Seaworld? Do you think keeping whales and dolphins in such small enclosures is cruel or a necessary evil?
There's no necessary evil about it. It's straight up evil. There's literal footage out there of those poor creatures banging their heads and bodies against the enclosures repeatedly because they're upset and depressed being confined like that. It's disgusting. Fuck those places.

- ̗̀   ➻ alexander warren has  been  an  austin  resident  for  seven years . the  thirty-four  is  an  author  in  atx .  residents  of  central keys  say  that  alexander  is  reliable ,  but  can  also  be obstinate .   [ ugly sweaters turned fashionable , board game nights , bonfires by the beach , the feeling of coming home after a long trip , an old typewriter kept as an art piece , late night roadtrips  ]   ̖́-

PERSONALITY
for the most part, alexander is a very loving and caring person. he is very protective of those he loves, sometimes to a fault. but he always has good intentions, unless you hurt someone he loves, then he can be hell on earth and he has the fbi on his side so really, don’t cross him.
he can get VERY hot-heated, he is a very passionate guy when something really interests him.
he’s basically tired ???? all the time??? he doesn’t sleep that much but yeah, big part of his personality, either tired or drinking coffee.
he is either locked in a bubble trying to get himself to write or camping OR hosting dinner/game night parties, he is the MASTER of board games. or at karaoke, he also loves karaoke
biggest broadway nerd. he'd spend all his free time at a different show when he lived in new yorkso he's either listening to soundtracks or hozier/joni mitchell/jazz music
he's big on chick flicks ngl, romance movies in general, he's a romantic little guy
has had a handful of romantic relationships, he's a serial monogamist though. he even was engaged once, when he lived in new york but it all ended abruptly even before quitting his job as a federal agent.
his biggest wish in life is having a family of his own.
since he can't sleep at night, he often uses this time to either work or go on roadtrips
probably the best guy to have as your emergency contact. very reliable plus he works at home most of the time so he is always a call away for whatever those around him need.
loves being the person people go to when they need to talk, he is the best at lending a hand/ear/shoulder when needed, yet it's very rare when he talks about his own life and struggles, going as far as to say he feels like he hides half of his life (mostly his past) to the people he loves because he can't bring himself to speak of it
honestly, just a very tired old golden retriever with an awful past he is still trying to deal with.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
PEACE . ( plat? could be rom / any gender )
relationships are as complex as human beings. we are volatile, coarse by nature; and things only get harsher when emotional baggage/mental health issues are carried and tossed around. it’s a russian roulette half the time, loving and carrying for those around you, but oh how worth it it is when you can find someone who understands you even without speaking, someone who knows you and your inner demons and still sticks by your side. although nothing is perfect and there will never be peace, you can keep eachother warm.
I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU  . ( plat / any gender )
the cory to his shawn, the phoebe to his joey, the chandler to his joey. he is a very loving person all together and deems himself a friendly guy who cares about all the people in his life, however this person has a special place in his heart. they are his go-to whenever something goes wrong and they need help, they are one of those people he’d do anything for and, most importantly, they are one of the few people who really know him, beyond the smiles and good times. who know the darkness that lies deep within him, perhaps the person he trusts the most in the world.
EASE MY MIND / SO WILL I . ( plat / any gender )
there are people who, even without a single word, can bring light into your world by simply existing. whenever something goes wrong, when the world is about to crumble down— they become your go-to, the one safe place that can ease your soul in the darkest hour and you can only hope that you can do the very same for them.
GETAWAY CAR   . ( rom / any gender )
it was, in every sense of the word, a rebound. one had a broken heart after a failed engagement and the other had their reasons— but it was meant as simply that. it lasted way longer than anyone expected it to, and when it ended, it wasn’t exactly soundless. both parts knew it wouldn’t last; however they weren’t ready for how damaging the outcome would be.
KEEP DRIVING . ( plat / any gender )
’We held darkness in withheld clouds I would ask, “Should we just keep driving?”’ when things get hard, when everything is going downhill, these two simply count on eachother to get on a car and keep driving. snacks and meaningful conversations withheld at 90 miles an hour to no forseen destiny— it may be one of alex’s most honest relationships.
DAYDREAMING . ( rom / any gender )
it’s still casual and new— but it’s all he’s been daydreaming about. the night calls, the illicit visits, the joy of having something private and non-commital and the way even one message from them can turn his entire day upside down.
work friends. people in the literary world that know of him? perhaps a secret club where literacy lovers gather around and exchange ideas over a few bottles of champagne and french pastries? fans of his work? possible rivals?
HALF SIBLINGS (robert warren got AROUND and there is a chance he had multiple kids? who knows?)
friends FAMILY FRIENDS, BAD INFLUENCES, good influences
family, maybe? cousins?
flings, one-side crushes, flirtationships, fwb, affairs, past lovers (however the relationship ended in good terms or bad, can be discussed?) the sky's the limit!

ZACHARY DE LA CRUZ: ( eighteen year old senior in hs verse ) zac is a dalton legacy who never expected to find himself among the warblers. he genuinely still doesn't know what drew him to them, because with a boy who literally dyes his hair pink to pop amongst the blue and red blazers of dalton academy? how does he fit in a group where 90% of the members sway in the background and make vocalizations. he doesn't have an answer, but he loves the warblers like brothers and he's proud to be a part of them. as a senior, zac has somehow ended up on the warbler's council . . . probably due to his lack of selfishness and just wanting what's best for the team. he's just out here vibing ninety percent of the time, and he's happy to let other people take the spotlight. he's just glad to be included.
Tumblr media
LIAM DE LUCA: ( eighteen year old senior in hs verse ) liam transferred to carmel high from mckinley high in his sophomore year after his father got a new job on the other side of town. this was probably the worst thing to happen to liam's already overly inflated ego. liam was always a musical kid, the lead in everything he did, singing, dancing, performing . . . he has big dreams for broadway. so when he switched schools, the first thing he did was audition for vocal adrenaline . . . and he got in ( of course, he'd happily add ). he's been taking on male leads in almost every performance ever since. he's got broadway on his mind, and he's determined to get there as soon as he graduates.
Tumblr media
JENNA BRADY: ( eighteen year old senior in hs verse ) jenna's a lifelong pageant queen and still brings that energy to everything she does. she's been in pageants since she was a toddler, and she is also in the running for miss teen ohio ( in her older verses, she's a reigning miss teen ohio and is chasing actual titles a.k.a. miss ohio, miss usa, and the whole nine yards ). she's also a member of vocal adrenaline and is constantly pushing herself to the forefront. she respects her teammates and will let others shine . . . but she's always going to push for herself first. she's genuinely a sweetheart . . . until you're competing against her or get in the way of what she wants.
Tumblr media
ESTEFANIA AGUILAR: ( eighteen year old senior in hs verse ) three sport athlete, vocal adrenaline member, all around bad ass. stef has been a part of vocal adrenaline since she was a freshman. she's one of the only members afforded the luxury of being allowed to participate in extra activities because she's never once faltered. no matter what's going on sports wise, vocal adrenaline comes first. with soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and track in the spring, there's no way one girl can do it all . . . hence the rumors around carmel that she's actually a robot ( clearly untrue, but she thinks it's hilarious ). stef is fiercely loyal, a team player through and through, and she's definitely vocal adrenaline's personal pitbull, ready to fight for them at any moment. she's also the queen of psychologically tormenting their competition. it's her favorite hobby.

How to Dance in Ohio is going to BROADWAY! Also, hi, I'm Ashley.
So I guess I should start using this account to talk about it, and tell the people who I am and what I'm about.
I'm told that Tumblr is the go-to platform these days for people who just want to blog like we did in the Old Internet Days, but also have an audience that includes people under the age of Limewire. Sooo here I am.
The briefing: I'm Ashley Wool, I live in NYC, and I'm playing Jessica in the upcoming Broadway musical How to Dance in Ohio. I've wanted to be on Broadway ever since I was old enough to know what that meant. I was diagnosed in 2008 with what was at the time called Asperger's syndrome--I don't use that term anymore for many reasons, which I'll probably get into at a later date--and I thought that being autistic spelled certain death for my performing career. So I didn't talk about it for over a decade.
My decision to start talking about it more publicly was catalyzed when Greta Thunberg started becoming a public figure. When I was a kid, I was hardcore invested in anything related to environmental conservation. 50 Simple Things You Can Do To Save the Earth was basically my Bible. In fifth grade, for a science project, I recreated the greenhouse effect using glass jars to demonstrate the impact of climate change to my peers. As you can probably imagine, I was bullied pretty mercilessly--and this was long before anybody had floated "autism" as a possibility for me. I just knew I was "weird." When I saw that happening to Greta on a worldwide scale, and saw people using her autistic neurology (which she was out and proud about) as an excuse to disparage and discredit her further, I realized how cowardly I had been to allow my own internalized ableism to keep me in the disclosure closet. If this brave and brilliant teenage girl could own her neurology in the face of millions of haters, who the heck was I to not stand up and be counted as an autistic person in front of a comparatively tiny audience of Facebook friends, most of whom already knew me and loved me?
It took me a while to find my footing as an autistic self-advocate, to work out the most productive ways to use my voice within and around those circles, but I think I have a pretty good handle on it nowadays. Like any autistic person, I've got plenty of trauma stories, but I never wanted to be the "trauma influencer" who centered my advocacy around my own negative experiences and talked over people who thought or felt differently about similar experiences they or their children have had. I also never wanted to deny or discount the privilege I experience as a cis white woman who is verbal and able-bodied and grew up in Westchester County and always had support systems for the struggles I do face, financial and otherwise.
Indeed, I hope that a cornerstone of my advocacy will be championing all the support systems I was lucky enough to have, and making sure that I do everything in my power to help differently-marginalized autistic people of all ages (and the people who love them, educate them, and employ them) receive the same support.
I hope that people will look at the success I've managed to achieve and instead of attributing it exclusively to my "being talented and working hard and never giving up," they will say, "this is what an autistic person can achieve when they are accommodated and supported, and autistic people don't need to be originating roles on Broadway like Ashley Wool or winning Nobel Peace Prizes like Greta Thunberg or [insert high achievement here] to be inherently worthy of that support."
Mostly, I just want to let the world know that autistic people already exist in every conceivable industry and every conceivable circle. Including musical theatre.
