I’ve started designing my ancient designs as sprites

Pure vanilla was themed around angels food cake (and is my second fav of the five)

Dark cacao was a Black Forest cake

And Hollyberry was originally juice but became pie

White Lily is definitely one of my favorite’s of the five. She was based on a white lily with pink in it

As for golden cheese, she was based on a cheese soufflé

ok so the thing about shrek 5 is that when previous shrek films engaged with modern pop culture it's always fully integrated into the environment, right? like the justin timberlake poster is still drawn in that medieval portrait style and says 'sir justin' at the bottom. fairy godmother was both a celebrity figure and an industrial titan (the pan up from the small idyllic cottage in her advertising to the mega industrial factory piping out fumes is iconic "are you feeling at all degraded or depressed?" "a little... I mean we don't even have dental"). even shrek the third the high school had jousting as its chosen 'jock sport'. when the magic mirror shows off the prospective brides for lord farquaard it does it in a way that's consistent with the style, cos you know, they animated it, they put the time in, like they actually put effort in to the gag. the only time it's not integrated is with the needle drops - because that's purely referential humour.

when they show those god awful shrek memes on the magic mirror it's just lazy. it's shrek in a catsuit in a modern day residential neighbourhood. like does photoshop exist in the shrek world, now? does capcut? fiona looks at buff shrek and goes "mhmm gimme that" when the whole first film was about idk beauty being skin deep or something? don't judge a book by its cover? and then the second film reiterates strongly that fiona knows who Shrek is and has the option of him being a hunk and says no I want the ogre instead. and that's fiona's 1 contribution to the teaser. the thought started with "what if the magic mirror was like a tiktok machine" and ended there. it's lazy.

i think it’s kinda funny how many differences there are between oda’s genderbends (understandable; they are largely not good) and the variety among the fan designs, and despite it all, the one character whose depictions stay remarkably consistent is doflamingo. like everyone looked at this and went Perfect. No notes

why is that. is it because doflamingo in any form is just pure, concentrated Shitty Toxic Relative You Have To Put Up With. is it the cunty little outfits. is it because he’s a diva. is it because what’s wrong with him is so deeply entrenched in his character that it exclusively manifests in one way.
