#this is very cool and i want people to see it #even if i have my own criticisms as i always do when watching thr partnering of dancers who aren't primarily partner dancers #sigh
#there have got to be some opera singers who also did dancesport as kids! it's fucking poland!
@elf-kid2 okay i know almost nothing about opera or ballet, but i'm fascinated with body language and movement since i'm an animator. what gives these two performers away as not being "primarily partner dancers"? what could they do better, or what would you expect to see if they did do mainly partner dancing?
Dracula and Jonathan’s Tango - from The Polish National Opera production of ‘Dracula’.

Note
anime would be also awesome at making changes that aren't a complete diversion of the characters. like they could make dracula explicitly bite jonathan instead of implicitly, give him the ability to summon the dead as ghouls to hinder the heroes in his escape, they could give mina more than the psychic ability after her baptism, make renfield and john have a closer bond, make van helsing have backstory with dracula… but still keep the majority especially parts that get cut off, like the marriage, berserker, jonathan's corruption arc, all the character quirks like john's phonograph love and uncoolness around ladies…
EXACTLY! Keep the core parts of the book, and add stuff to round them! A lot of these sound really awesome, specifically giving Van Helsing a good backstory after the little bits that we read in the book in the format of flashbacks, and making Mina's transformation more ominous through her appearance. The scene sequences that could capture the dread and the terror of many moments in the book like Lucy's last entry, Mina's reunion with Jonathan, Mina and Jonathan working on the investigation, or Van Helsing's first appearance, so many moments that need the drama that animation could give.
Imagine poor Lucy alone in her room terrified and agitated, the wind at full force entering through her broken window giving her room a dark blue hue, her mother laying dead on her bed with a single hand outside of the sheet. Lucy locked the door yet something keeps knocking, and she keeps thinking she doesn't know what to do until her eyes catch her diary on the floor. One thought simply repeats in her mind... "Write", she throws herself to grab the diary, and her pencil while the knocking on the door gets more aggressive by the second. Lucy then hides behind her bed, and immediately starts to write her last letter to the world. She starts writing, writing, and writing while her hand trembles, we see Lucy struggle and cross out words yet even if her face is wet with tears her determination is unbreakable. There is no knocking anymore, but now someone is trying to force the door open, and Lucy just keeps writing. I imagine at the end of her letter when she writes her name she does the most dramatic hand action to write and sign her full name one last time, in bold jet black. Then the door finally clicks open... Lucy quickly rips the page off and hides it, she grabs her mother's hand and stars to pray and cry silently, and the angle of the scene goes slowly from her to the now open door to reveal a completely dark background save for two blood red eyes that look directly into the "camera".
It would be so good.
On the other hand... let's say that I'm not too fond on the idea that Renfield and Jack need a "closer bond" because I think that Jack was one of the core factors that pushed Renfield to wrongly give his service to Dracula. My humble opinion is that the best thing that Seward could have done for Renfield before his death was to finally let him go. Just let him leave the asylum since it was clear that Renfield got tired of suffering under Seward's "care".
Said treatment made Renfield seek another person who could give him a semblance of power over something, over anything really, and Dracula was right there to manipulate him and use him. Seward got so deep in his own ableist perspective of Renfield that he didn't notice all the signals around him. Renfield was so traumatized thanks to his time in the asylum that while he was in his death bed he begged Seward to take away the restraining jacket, not knowing that Dracula paralyzed him. The way Jack pushed Renfield to a breaking point again and again was horrible.
I think what a good adaptation would do is give Renfield a happy ending where he keeps on living, away from the asylum and Seward, with a new page to start his life again. If they want to portray his death to be accurate to the book, at least give Renfield a more humane and dignified death than leaving him alone to slowly die in pain.
... wow, que setimientos tan fuertes, mira esos párrafos.
It's 1:33 AM btw.

Rest In Peace, drawlloween day 31 🥀
Absolutely going mad trying to edit photos in time, but I managed to squeak these two out for Mabs Drawlloween Club! I love Eiko Ishioka’s costume work in the 1992 Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and since I had some perfect fabric for the job, I decided to make my first ever replica from the film! These are more artsy, so there are definitely more photos coming that will show off the actual work on the dress better haha. And of course, I’ve read Dracula many times by now, and Lucy is my favorite character, but I think also she’s the most misunderstood in how people remember her! Don’t get me wrong, I love a spicy vampire story I will NEVER say no to a nice spicy vampire story 👀, but I think in the original text Lucy is presented with such a unique and relatable horror, that I feel so sorry for her as well as see a little bit of that in the mirror, so to speak. But enough of my rambling for now, happy Halloween!

Fear Pharm (2020) - Corn maze full of a family of killers with moneymaking aspirations!
The Oak Room (2020) - Slowburn thriller taking place in an almost empty bar!
Anything For Jackson (2020) - Grief drives old couple to demon worship!
Tumblr media

𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝, 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐲, 𝐨𝐡 𝐧𝐨! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐬? :(
(I know it's technically not accurate since Renfield wasn't facing Seward when he entered the room, but I felt like drawing horror at the time so shhhhh ! 🕷🕸)

The main vampire kisses (book series) complaints I see and my thoughts on them
* Raven’s personality is cringey
I think the readers forget Raven is only 16. It’s pretty clear that Raven was written to be a realistic teenager, and all teenagers have their cringey moments.
* It’s annoying how Raven goes on about how “goth” she is
Honestly this comes down to personal preference. Because I personally LOVED the descriptions of her outfits and the objects she owns. And lots of preteens and teens like these descriptions because they feel inspired by the main characters of books they read and want to recreate outfits or buy objects that character owns
* The story is predictable
Personally I disagree. I first read the books at 12/13 and then 16 and then again at 20 and there are plot points I am genuinely surprised by because I forgot them. I personally feel the stories have their twists and turns but to each their own
* The story/writing is juvenile
This is a book series for PRETEENS AND TEENS. Although some very young adults (18-22) may enjoy the books as well, any older and it is highly likely you may find the writing style childish.
* The story is too cheesy/silly for me to take seriously
If you pay any attention at all, it’s pretty obvious this is supposed to be a
comedy-fantasy series. It’s not supposed to be taken seriously
* The story is too flat and boring
Are we even reading the same books? I found almost every page funny/comedic or at least entertaining.
* Raven is only goth by aesthetic/appearance/fashion
She literally mentions enjoying Bauhaus and The Cure (goth bands) AND mentions enjoying Dracula movies and Anne Rice novels
* Raven’s only personality trait is hating preppy people
I think it’s normal for alternative teens to have “not like other girls/boys/people” stage. I definitely did as a teen and cringe now at it, but it’s normal. Also Raven clearly has other personality traits if you look hard enough
* It’s annoying how the main two towns in the series are called Hipsterville and Dullsville and never properly named
The author Ellen Schreiber said she purposefully did this so lots of people could identify their closest dullsville and hipsterville to themselves and connect to the story more. For example, my town is quite conservative and very dull, but the city centre is more chill with a solid amount of punk and goth people. The towns not being specifically named is because a decent amount of people (in western countries at least) will have a dull conservative town and a chill/alternative/hipster/artsy city by them. People can think about what their own dullsville and hipsterville would be and apply it to them
Are there any other complaints I forgot to address? Lemme know. And yes, I understand that this series is not perfect, but these specific complaints are stupid/silly/ridiculous.

heya! i have a sideblog 'RebloggingRexan,' and you might enjoy it if you ever want to look at more Dracula Daily art from past years, especially 2022. i have both the tags '#dracula art' (leans toward more meme-y / jokey content) and '#artsy dracula' (the more 'fine art' content, although some posts have both tags since that's how Dracula Daily goes).
anywho, i saw you say you already have a lot of stuff queued, and of course there's no obligation for you to interact. i'm just happy to come across this blog! :D thanks for doing this project!
Hello! This is such a funny coincidence, because I just finished going through pretty much that entire sideblog of yours like yesterday :D It's a really good ressource, thank you!!

Thought I should an ‘about me’ post, TW long post hahaha.
I am unfortunately only nineteen years old
I have an odd, weird shade of ginger hair, natural not dyed. Disgustingly blue eyes. My hair is curly/wavy but NOT the artsy café downtown girl way, the I can never brush my hair without crying way.
My favourite type of heels are Betsy Johnson though I don’t own a pair.
Too broke to have a claimed clothing style.
I have long crooked fingers, not interesting but I’d thought to add it anyways.
Extremely pale… ghastly even… I wear spf 100, yes, it exists. It’s in my wildest dreams to wear colourful and spontaneous clothes, but my paleness says no to said dreams.
Horrible grammar and do not care, never have never will. Let me place commas wherever I want.
I love writing poems. it’s my favourite stress reliever. If I could I would stay by the lake all day just writing.
No debate. Winter > Summer. I shrivel and dye in the heat.
Like most, I prefer old fashioned style and decor.
My favourite books are Dracula, the Mortal Instruments series, Mrs Dalloway, Despair and Interview with a Vampire, Normal People, Out of the Easy, All That Remains, Ethan Frome, The Breathing series and Death’s Acres. Don’t debate with me on these books. Don’t care xoxo.
Favorite films (I’m a cinephile): The Phantom of the Opera (2004), War Horse, Beautiful Creatures, Mao’s Last Dancer, Silver Skates, Contempt, Sabrina (1995), Henry and June, Camille Claudel, Star Wars franchise, Death Becomes Her, The Dreamers, and for some unprecedented reason Big Fish and Warm Bodies.
Favourite shows: Criminal Minds (obvi), The Walking Dead, Quantico, Sons of Anarchy, New girl and Derry Girls. OH AND SUPERNATURAL
Favourite candy: anything sour and dark chocolate even though I don’t count chocolate as candy.
Favourite color: don’t have one
Favorite Foods: Gnocchi, chicken tenders, and pork fried rice.
Hobbies: contemplating where it all went wrong and spending too much time in the shower.
Can I sleep? No I have insomnia and when I do sleep I get nightmares.
Trauma? Plenty
Sexuality? Don’t know, nobody stays long enough for me to find out.
Humor? Unparalleled, Unmatched, Unwavering. I’m the funniest person half alive. yes, half alive don’t ask. Half of this post is sarcasm.
I like using big words in the wrong context. It’s funny.
Murder? Only roaches
Fears? People who like Hidden Valley ranch, heights, large crowds and loud noises.
I love any and all animals but mainly dogs and cats like anyone else.
That’s all I think.
I’m so niche and cool it’s not niche and cool anymore.

A dark mass spread over the grass, coming on like the shape of a flame of fire; and then He moved the mist to the right and left, and I could see that there were thousands of rats with their eyes blazing red—like His, only smaller.
