WIP Wednesday, but it's a Thursday
I was tagged by the awesome @greypetrel ✨thank you so much!! ;u;
Finally, I can draw something unrelated to Art Fight lmao that's so relieving!!
Left: Two potatoes being very pink <3 I'm taking my time with this one because I want to achieve a certain effect but I need to study a couple of things rendering-wise before putting more stuff on paper <<
Right: A wild Luca appears! In the form of rough sketches. I'm torn between two options (we're going for nobiliar / high status costumes), but I do really want to draw a toga so... um... I'll ponder for a moment before finalizing a sketch
Tagging: @herearedragons @dreadfutures @underneathestars & whoever wants to share their stuff <3
#wip wednesday#...tempted to look for an actual pattern of burano's merletti for the shirt <<#but from the description he's more on the practical side so I think every decision will be taken around that#how would he drop from rooftops with a flappy toga#sigh I love toga ;;#did you know that black was a color only a few classes could wear in that time frame (people mourning excluded)? it was a color for status#in the serenissima territories at least#most social classes (artisans included) were color / outfit coded like#the doge wore red and gold for example#even later in xviii century nobles wearing bright colors à la française weren't taken seriously#a mint green jacket? preposterous! you're the bane of your family and you should be disowned#(young nobles were disowned for nothings so that's not a stretch lol)#in the late 600 for example doge erizzo menaced to disown his son because he wore wigs#and in that period wigs were A Must for nobles#the boy was actually disowned because he refused to stop wearing wigs#'I prefer misery'#you kinda have to cheer for the boy lol

perfume people what specific cologne would kendall and stewy wear. not asking for any specific reason other than I have fucking brainrot
like obviously there is the idea that stewy wears something with lavender notes but you know what would be More insane? if lavender is actually kendall's go-to.
anyway I know little to nothing about perfume so I need help
#my thoughts are very lackluster and based on vibes only#I think kendall would go for like? well lavender because I am insane but also something citrusy. maybe something almost basic#but expensive as fuck and from a big name brand because kendall is just. like that#stewy I am thinking something spicy? maybe woody? maybe from some semy artisanal brand#look I wear a scent I chose by sniffing everything in the store and asking myself 'what would stewy wear'#and I settled on warm spicy scent with cardomom black pepper bergamot and sage. but I am open to suggestions#succession#stewy hosseini#kendall roy#kenstewy

I’ve had two personal essay ideas bouncing around in my head for a week now and that’s usually a sign that I have to write them. It’s a nice feeling tbh. To me it means I’m truly in the execution phase of one writing project because my brain has space to work on other things. There are so many things I love and learned during the two years I spent on Artisan but I think the biggest is the knowledge that I can, in fact, finish a large scale writing project if the idea has legs. All it makes me want to do is write more.
#I have to finish script revisions on the last few eps of artisan but I have a few months to do that#and tbh wearing my producer hat for that makes it really hard for me to switch modes back in scriptwritee#I really thought my next project was going to be either a novel or a short film and honestly they still might be#but the essays won’t leave me alone and that’s how I know they’re going to be good#and yes one is about baseball lmao#ren speaks

Badgley Mischka Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear
Photos by Filippo Fior / Gorunway.com
#fashion#badgley mischka#spring 2023#ready-to-wear#scopophobia#this collection was inspired by how colorful morocco is when they visited#this seems like a good time to revisit my designer inspo policy!#if a designer is inspired by another country/culture and it's something broad like 'i liked the colors!' i think that's okay#but if it's something specific like 'i like the tiles in moroccan mosques so i'm going to turn them into a pattern and use it in dresses'#that feels appropriative to me#some designers (and i'm thinking of say maria chiuri at dior) do have specific inspos but will work in combination with people from the coun#country/culture in ways that feel more like an appreciation and which often benefits artists/designers/artisans#and in that case i will sometimes feel okay posting the collection#but if the designer's manifesto or actual collection feels at all appropriative or (sometimes blatantly!!) racist they don't show up here#and some designers are perma-banned from this tumblr for racism#all that said if i ever post a collection like this with this kind of explanation of why i thought it was okay#and someone reaches out to say it isn't#i will issue a correction and take the post down!#i am totally open to being wrong#anyway sorry badgley and mischka#didn't mean to make an example of you OR DID I#go back to designing dog clothes to go with your actual clothes

It's not just fast fashion though! That's just the current buzzword. You can blame this entirely on the RTW (ready to wear aka prêt-à-porter) phenomenon.
Back in the day you had to either make your own clothes, or have them made for you. It wasn't cheap. You had maybe maaaaybe two or three dresses/pair of trousers etc. And you wore them till they stank, before washing, if you ever washed them at all. (This is why undergarments were so important. Those were made of cheaper fabrics, and washed more often.) Because of the custom construction and the associated costs, when style trends changes women would have their existing dresses altered to fit the prevailing styles. You couldn't just pop down to the shops and pick up a new dress. This was true for *everyone* not just the upper and middle class.
Enter rtw. This is the beginning of the disconnect for consumers, where the creation of clothing becomes very distanced from their budgets and everyday lives. The timeline varies, but safe to say men's rtw came first, via military garment production in the 19th century, while women's rtw didn't come around until the mid 20th century due to the intricacies of the tailoring plus the "fussy" details of fashion such as necklines, waistlines, and ornamentation like bows, lace edges, or hand beaded patterns. In the beginning women's rtw was sold in designer boutiques, operated by the fashion house itself, YSL being one of the first. Gradually rtw came to replace ateliers and tailors for most consumers, but the quality of the clothing was still a better quality than it is now.
The accessibility of rtw meant a rapid expansion of the market that moved into department stores, as more and more consumers wanted in on it. The department store clothing was made of less expensive materials, in simpler designs. They had to be replaced more often than custom tailored clothing, due to both quality and the rapid shift in popular fashion styles, but that wasn't as large of an expense. And it was *on purpose*. Marketers and retailers realized they could generate more *profit* (not just revenue) by artificially creating turnover.
So basically this is all to say that "fast fashion" is mostly a buzzword. And it is only the most current iteration of this downward trend in rtw, which you can blame on marketers. Marketers made it trendy to wear basically ass end of the spectrum quality clothing by making the marketing materials *look* expensive. (Drop shippers rejoiced at this development) It's not a new tactic, but the internet has fueled it and it's become hyper inflated to the point of absurdity. An almost comical caricature of the ready to wear phenomenon. Surrealists would be proud tbh. (Blame the 2000's and the Kardashians tbh)
This is where the disconnect happens though.
It's prevalent in many maaaany artisan fields, and has been for decades.
I know of it from the knitting side. Someone who isn't a craftsperson sees your cute beanie/scarf/sweater, but they don't see the cost of the materials, (and the cost it took the manufacturer to make said materials) the cost of the tools, the labor spent making the beanie/scarf/sweater, the pattern written by another craftsperson that was developed over many trial and errors, with multiple types of yarn, sizes of needles etc, the transcribing of what their hands did into written instructions, the chart, the proofreading of said pattern, the printing, the distribution, the advertising.
Your friend walks into Target and grabs the cute scarf off the rack and pays for it.
So why can't you make a scarf for them for $20 with some yarn they bought a while back and never did anything with because ugh, it was too hard.
still thinking about the brainrot that fast fashion has caused in people, like i made this pair of pants that are black and white with a cool flowery design, and an acquaintance saw them and said "wow i'd pay like 20 dollars for you to make me a pair" and i could barely think with how utterly horrified i was at that; i told them that 20 dollars wouldn't even cover the materials, let alone the hours of work that went into cutting, sewing, ironing, hemming, altering, etc. they just had this look on their face when i told them that, when i said i wouldn't make them a pair for even 100 dollars because that was still way too low of an amount, a look that said "you're crazy for thinking that those cost 100 dollars" and maybe i am crazy but holy shit, 20 dollars for a pair of handmade, durable, lined pants fitted specifically to your measurements? 20 dollars for upwards of 60 hours of work? 20 dollars for several yards of high-quality fabric, thread, and buttons? 20 dollars???

Hand Knotted Rugs: A Timeless Craft of Luxury and Durability
Hand knotted rugs are more than just floor coverings; they're works of art that carry the legacy of professional craftsmanship. These rugs, made by artisans who meticulously tie hundreds of knots by hand, offer remarkable durability, beauty, and intricacy in design. At Kaleen Baba, we specialize in high-quality hand knotted rugs, perfect for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship and want to invest in a long-lasting piece for their home.
Hand Knotted Rugs for Sale: A Rich Collection
When you’re looking for hand knotted rugs for sale, it’s essential to understand the value of these exceptional pieces. The process of hand knotting can take months, depending on the size and complexity of the design, which is why these rugs are considered premium in the world of floor coverings. Made from materials like wool, silk, or a blend of both, hand knotted rugs not only add a luxurious touch to your home but also stand the test of time.
At Kaleen Baba, we offer a wide variety of hand knotted rugs, ranging from traditional Oriental patterns to modern designs. Whether you’re looking to adorn your living room, bedroom, or hallway, our collection has something for every taste. Each rug tells a unique story and brings a sense of history and elegance to your space.
Hand Knotted Runner: Style and Functionality
A hand knotted runner is an excellent way to add both style and functionality to narrower spaces like hallways, entryways, or staircases. These long, slim rugs offer the same beauty and craftsmanship as larger hand knotted rugs but are designed to fit in more compact areas.
Not only do runners provide a decorative element, but they also protect your floors from wear and tear, making them both practical and stylish. At Kaleen Baba, our collection of hand knotted runners includes both traditional and modern designs, ensuring you find the perfect piece to match your interior décor.
Hand Tufted vs Hand Knotted: Understanding the Difference
When comparing hand tufted vs hand knotted rugs, the main distinction lies in the crafting process. Hand tufted rugs are made by punching wool or other fibers through a canvas backing using a hand-operated tool. This process is faster and less labor-intensive, which makes hand tufted rugs more affordable than hand knotted ones.
On the other hand, hand knotted rugs are crafted by tying individual knots onto the foundation of the rug. This intricate process requires a great deal of time and skill, resulting in a rug that is more durable and luxurious. Hand knotted rugs tend to be more expensive but are also more durable and considered long-lasting investments. If you’re looking for a rug that combines beauty, craftsmanship, and durability, hand knotted rugs are the way to go.
Conclusion
Whether you’re interested in the timeless beauty of hand knotted rugs, searching for hand knotted rugs for sale, or need a stylish hand knotted runner, Kaleen Baba offers a wide selection to meet your needs.
