I gotta be honest. I hate this style for him.

He looks younger than Aang does at the start of the series. You're telling me this is a 17 year old? No. Just no.

(He's adorable and if this was pre-series Zuko, I would love it to pieces. But it's not. And I don't.)

(Also, like. Is that a mullet? How tf is his hair shaggy like book 3, but also long enough to be put up in a top knot? And still look shaggy? I just... the physics involved here [don't exist].)

This is just straight up a rant, so to be blunt; I am not a professional artist, I just enjoy drawing and know some of the basics. Also this is all just my opinion, so yeah, rant starts from here.

Viv’s designs of the sins that we’ve seen so far are horrible. They’re overcrowded, the colors are really basic or straining for me and it’s just … bad? It’s just bad, confusing and it feels like she looked up a wiki of (insert demon)’s animal, slapped on a Viv TM personality from the five different persona’s she has and oversaturated colored and called it a day.

Sorry if this is disjointed, I know Viv has talent as a artist and she has artistic merit, but I feel like in recent years her style and characterization has diminished ( compare pilot Adam to the show Adam example, for me the pilots design was much cooler ) and now her furry designs or biblical interpretations are just… bare bones, hollow. Like she’s read a question on a test but hasn’t engaged with it thoroughly and rushed it. C minus, Viv.

To be clear, this is not me saying this art style is bad, like objectively, and at the end of the day I am just a little hater, BUT who actually likes the semi realism-with-yaoi-hands proportions style that’s really common in manhwa???

Like this:

It’s not bad art, in fact technically speaking it’s way better than mine, and Hell, way better than the art of some artists I LOVE. It’s just that the anatomy is really stylized, but the textures and shading stay really smooth and realistic. It creates this weird uneven, off-balance look I feel like. Not to mention the same-face and same-body syndromes in a lot of these styles.

I don’t hate absurd anatomy:

Both of these images have unrealistic anatomy. Still, both stylize the textures and environments with flatter shading, sharp contrast, and bright colors. Hell, I LOVE Code Name Ghost’s art, and all it changes from the semi realism yaoi hands type thing is crisp cell shading, less detailed eyes, and flatter colors.

So yeah. I really, really hate the semirealism yaoi hands art style. Every time I see it, I become viscerally angry because something about it just barely hits the uncanny valley zone in my brain.

Currently thinking about the differences between the various Anton talksprites. The new one is a whole different thing, but I didn't even realize they changed his hat and eyebrows between the other two until I actually put them side by side. Huh.

satoru would be a physics major ( by choice even as a nepo baby ) that's talented in fashion and art studies because everything exists in a context—when sukuna ( a current fashion major ) meets satoru he's taken a back on how satoru seems to come up with ideas far better more beautiful than most of his classmates and himself could ever come up with, things that are on the level of the greats he likes.

but as he sticks around satoru he realizes that satoru's idea are so authentic because he doesn't think about fashion being about fashion. satoru takes fashion and the arts as things that always connect to life and because satoru has lived his life sneaking away from his family to enjoy things, he goes to places that are grimey with the worst people imaginable and come out with an even greater insight on life and persepctive. therefore, he can understand art better than someone in art college that is simply copying basquiat.

for example in black swan; nina couldn't play the roll of the black swan even though she had been obsessed with ballerina for years because the story isn't about ballet. it's about romance, and Nina's never experienced that.

satoru remains completely unaware of his gift and just sends sukuna more and more of the designs he came up with.
