Whenever Jason’s feeling down, he shows up at Roy’s place unannounced. The latter takes one look at him, and doesn’t ask. He just tosses him a beer, turns on the TV, or pulls him into whatever he’s working on. Within minutes, Jason feels lighter. Roy has that effect on him.

But one night, it’s Roy who calls. Jason is half-asleep until he hears Roy’s voice. It's too quiet. Too... weird.

“Jay, I… I don’t feel so good.”

It’s not an injury. Jason can hear it in the weight of his words. The way they sound so hollow scares the shit out of him.

The drive is a blur. He barely remembers pulling up before he’s unlocking the door with the key Roy gave him months ago. Inside, he's on the floor, his arms wrapped around himself, staring blankly ahead.

Jason sits next to him to better search his face for anything that says this isn’t as bad as it looks. His hair’s a mess, and when Roy lifts his gaze, Jason sees the emptiness. Not pain, not exhaustion. Just… nothing.

It terrifies him.

His hand finds Roy’s wrist, hesitant at first. When Roy doesn’t pull away, Jason grips tighter. He moves closer, pressing their sides together. No reaction. Jason swallows hard, then does something he never does; he tucks his forehead against Roy’s shoulder.

Still nothing.

So he pushes further, pressing in, nuzzling against Roy’s neck without thinking. His breath is warm against his skin. If words won’t fix this, maybe this will. Maybe if he holds on tight enough, Roy won’t slip away.

Roy exhales, and Jason finally feels him lean in.

“I got you,” Jason murmurs. He tightens his hold. “I got you, okay ?"

Roy nods.

Dinah and Roy and Mera and Garth are such cute mother-son relationships. Honestly they're better parents then their partners, who are the actual parents.

Constantly thinking about Absolute Power from the Arrowfams POV and how Amanda Waller, a known threat who supposedly knows a lot about the heroes and their personal relationships, decided to put a bomb in Cissie King Jone's head to have her play along with the Arrowfam's bullshit during this arc, despite the fact that Cissie has never met these people in her life.

Amanda Waller really saw she had 'Arrow' in her name and just went 'Of Course she is related to Oliver and Company, so of course I'll get her involved in all of this', not even bothering to look just the smallest bit deeper.

Objectively, the most entertaining part of that entire storyline is looking for Cissie in the background of any panels and seeing just how dead inside she is and how she would rather be anywhere else in the world than where she currently is. She doesn't know these people, she doesn't want to deal with the hero bullshit, let alone the family drama that's also happening all around her.

I would just like to point out that if you happen to be doing a DickRoy/Roy Harper/Lian Harper/or Arrowfam read through (or are following a reading guide) and therefore need to read Action Comics #613-618 & #627-634 it will probably be easier to read Nightwing Old Friends, New Enemies than searching through Action Comics (and the quality is better)

Maybe this is common knowledge, but I didn't know, and reading Action Comics was a pain.

how about an arrowfam or superfam-centric 5+1?

100% it would be "Five Times an Arrowkid Called Ollie 'Dad.'" Featuring:

Roy saying it when he's very very small and half-asleep after a night of patrol and Ollie's whole chest seizes up because holy shit he has a KID now.

Connor saying it very tentatively after Ollie comes back to life like he's afraid Ollie will run away again, and Ollie just smiles and ruffles his hair and pretends he's not tempted to flee because he's going to fuck this up again.

Mia by accident and then they both pretend it didn't happen because uhhh her real dad was...yeah. The next time she says it it's without that immediate flinch and from then on she uses it about as often as Roy does (like 10% of the time they address Ollie).

Cissie very angrily because actually fuck you, she didn't ask to be one of Green Arrow's 97 illegitimate children, she was just fine on her own. (She will calm down, it's just that anger is her go-to response when she's uncomfortable.)

Honestly #5 should probably be Robert Jr. but I don't care about him and I REALLY don't want him and Emiko to both be in continuity because that's weird. Maybe Emiko by accident? Or, funnier - Kyle by accident and neither he nor Ollie notices until like 10 minutes later. (Roy laughs so hard.)

I have no idea what the +1 punchline is so I'm just going to say it's Ollie calling Dinah "daddy." No, I didn't mix them up.

the lack of consequences and in depth story telling in dc comics is so frustrating. ollie is effectively emiko's guardian. when emiko had a secret plan that hurt him even though the end goal was noble, he was super upset at her. it would be really interesting to see them deal with ollie's fake betrayal, the feeling that she'd potentially lose the last bit of her family, and how he did even worse than her with the secret plans.

but no. the next writer seemingly has little to no interest in the arrowfam besides maybe connor and mia. so even though ollie and emiko are half-siblings and ollie was pretty much raising her, nothing about their relationship will ever be further explored because dc is just unwilling to do that. emiko didn't even get to say anything in the last GA issue about what ollie did, but sure. give dialogue to red canary who shouldn't even be there.

yk whats so interesting abt roy not liking ollie taking a child sidekick?? the fact that roy was forced to have a 16yo on a superhero team bc otherwise that kid wouldve gone to jail, & the superhero team he was the leader of also had 2 other 15/16yo kids (the editorial-mandated tara markov 2.0 & bart allen).

theres also the fact that now its canon that emiko queen was ollie's 3rd child sidekick.

like... theres something to chew on here. theres something to be said abt roy blatantly hating & being against the concept of teenagers being put in harm's way but was the leader of a team w 3 teenagers that he was directly responsible for (one of whom was literally going to prison at 16yo if roy hadnt stepped in), as well as the fact that his dad lied abt mia dearden being the last teenager ollie would ever have as a sidekick (via editorial mandates... bc of the fucking. n52 to rebirth character arc pipelines.)

also the fact that roy's own daughter has become a child sidekick of an antihero...... theres smth to unpack here.
