100% it would be "Five Times an Arrowkid Called Ollie 'Dad.'" Featuring:

Roy saying it when he's very very small and half-asleep after a night of patrol and Ollie's whole chest seizes up because holy shit he has a KID now.

Connor saying it very tentatively after Ollie comes back to life like he's afraid Ollie will run away again, and Ollie just smiles and ruffles his hair and pretends he's not tempted to flee because he's going to fuck this up again.

Mia by accident and then they both pretend it didn't happen because uhhh her real dad was...yeah. The next time she says it it's without that immediate flinch and from then on she uses it about as often as Roy does (like 10% of the time they address Ollie).

Cissie very angrily because actually fuck you, she didn't ask to be one of Green Arrow's 97 illegitimate children, she was just fine on her own. (She will calm down, it's just that anger is her go-to response when she's uncomfortable.)

Honestly #5 should probably be Robert Jr. but I don't care about him and I REALLY don't want him and Emiko to both be in continuity because that's weird. Maybe Emiko by accident? Or, funnier - Kyle by accident and neither he nor Ollie notices until like 10 minutes later. (Roy laughs so hard.)

I have no idea what the +1 punchline is so I'm just going to say it's Ollie calling Dinah "daddy." No, I didn't mix them up.

I feel like the main reason I focus so much on the Arrowfam girls is because outside of the Wonderfam and Amazon relationships, there aren’t a lot of mainstream sisterly relationships in the DCU, especially within the other set up family dynamics. The batfam, superfam, flashfam, are all majority male-dominated or just have a bigger focus on brotherly bonds. Even in preboot Arrow comics, Mia was the only girl so naturally her dynamics with both Connor and Roy were emphasized (as well as the one between both guys). And then in Rebirth, Emi was the only girl with focus so it’s quite annoying to me how sisterly bonds aren’t shown nearly as often as brother ones.

That’s why I like thinking a lot about Cissie, Mia, Emi, and by extension, Lian and Sin, even Sienna, interacting. GA 2023 should’ve had all them together! Idk I’m invested in the potential of closeness, of bonding over their shared roles, of the inevitable cattiness and how they would get over it, etc. I would include Dinah in this too since she is arguably the most important female character is GA comics, and I would love to see the kind of role model she’d be for all these young girls (but NOT in a motherly way!!!! let’s get that straight) I also am DYING to see Jade, Moonday, and Shado interact with each other and all the girls, like ugh there’s so many female characters in this fucking family and GA 2023 didn’t deliver a single interaction between them.

idk why but. arrowfamily is so distinctly 90s-00s that i cant see them as any other era... including emiko. theres smth abt them that just screams late 90s-early 00s & it barely has anything to do w the fact that connor & mia were introduced during those periods of time.

Oh boy here goes. My hottest take is that Dinah should not be considered the mother of the Arrowfam.

Look, okay, I get it. Family dynamics are really cute, and the Arrowfam is the superhero family. And since Ollie's the dad of the family, it makes sense reasonably that that would make Dinah the mum.

But the thing is, I really don't think she is. Ages ago I made a post about how I want an Arrowsiblings (Roy Connor + Mia) hug in the current run and I got a few notes on that post saying that they should also hug their mum and that's what really started this train of thought so I'm gonna go from that.

So obviously the easiest to dispute is Connor. Connor already has a mum, and it's a bit of a concerning trend where mixed race children of heroes have their birth mothers erased and replaced with their dad's significant other in fandom (see: the posts about Selina being Damian's mum). And the erasure of Moonday in Connor's life is something that happens quite often (when Ollie and Dinah had a kid named Connor in Injustice...) so just. Don't do it. Dinah isn't Connor's mum, he already has a mum.

Then there's Roy. Roy's definitely someone I see a lot of posts about him being "Dinah's son", and while I do enjoy the mama's boy jokes I wouldn't necessarily say their relationship is mother/son. Maternal? Yeah. But I feel like trying to apply a traditional family dynamic to their relationship just feels counterproductive to me. They only really met when Roy was in his early adulthood/late teens (I know Roy's age is ambiguous in Snowbirds but for the sake of arguing I usually put him around 18), and having someone fill the role of "mother" in his life was never particularly important to him.

Obviously it's not explicitly stated in this dialogue, but I've always read into it as an undertone that while Roy wanted someone (Ollie) to fill the role of "father" in his life, he never felt that same need for a mother. Their relationship is very complex, it's one based in a lot of love and trust and there are absolutely maternal aspects to it, but I wouldn't call it mother/son.

And then there's Mia. Mia's relationship with Dinah is definitely the most mother/child of the three, with Dinah saying just as much

That being said, hear me out.

I think that, like with Roy, Dinah and Mia have a very complex, layered relationship. I think that mother/daughter is the easiest way to quantify it, but that's just rounding up to the closest approximation. I think their relationship is more similar to Dinah's relationship with Sin- a sister relationship with maternal elements, and I don't think Mia considers Dinah a mother, not entirely.

Obviously this is just my opinion, and it's a hot take for a reason, I don't expect the majority to agree with me. I just think that the Arrows don't need to follow nuclear family dynamics in order to be a family, and Dinah's role in their lives is more interesting and has more room for nuance when it's not labelled.

Joshua Williamson, who is writing the new GA book, posted this on Twitter, and I have not stopped yelling since. They are all here! All of them!!! EVEN CISSIE!!!!! 😭

Because someone will inevitably ask me, here is who’s who:

Starting from the fire escape:

Lian “Shoes” Harper (yes, I still wish they hadn’t aged her up, but we can’t have everything) and Cissie King-Jones (Arrowette). I am especially excited about these two because a) Roy will FINALLY reunite with his daughter and b) Cissie has literally never interacted with any of the Arrowfam before even though a couple pre-52 comics implied that she was Ollie’s biological daughter (please please please). Next to them is Malcolm Merlyn, my #2 favorite GA villain, and below him is Count Vertigo, my #4 favorite GA villain. The mask in the sky looks like Hal Jordan’s.

On the ground starting from the left is new character Red Canary, who we know very little about. In the back are Onomatopoeia and Cheshire. Then we have Emiko Queen (Red Arrow), Peacemaker, Mia Dearden (Speedy), and Brick, my #3 favorite GA villain. Mia-as-Speedy was erased from canon with Flashpoint and she only briefly appeared as a very different character in the New 52, so I’m thrilled to see her back, and cannot wait to see Mia, Emiko, and Cissie interact.

Still moving right we have John Diggle, Roy Harper (Arsenal) in a variation on his best costume, Connor Hawke (Green Arrow) who appears to be sporting a manbun, some guy, and Dinah Lance (Black Canary).

There are SO MANY MEETINGS/REUNIONS teased here:

Ollie is currently “dead” so anyone interacting with him in any sense will be reuniting with him.

Ollie doesn’t know Roy is alive. (Dinah and Emiko do but had literally zero reaction to it, which...okay.)

None of the Arrowfam has interacted with Connor since pre-Flashpoint, so we have no idea what their relationships/history are like.

Same with Mia.

Connor and Emiko (nephew and aunt!) have never met.

None of them have ever met Cissie - Ollie was dead during her entire superhero career and Connor and Roy were always conveniently absent whenever YJ met the JLA or the Titans. She and Connor are siblings (probably)!
