Sure since adopting self checkout they got rid of 99% of grocery workers and if something goes wrong you gotta just stand there for 20 minutes while the employee managing 30% of the store singlehandedly tries to juggle helping you with their other responsibilities. But at least groceries are less expensive now right. Why are you trying to whisper in my ear I have a girlfriend

Facts about your body after you turn 25, AKA things I wish someone had told me:
you will get hair in fun new places. this is normal and fine.
these places include (but are not limited to) if you don't already have them: your asscrack, your back, your ears, and moles. it's fine.
some of you, dick or not, will also lose hair. this is normal, but also if you have ovaries maybe get this checked out for PCOS.
your acne will probably change. some people get better. some people get worse. it's fine.
your nails will probably get an infection or a fungus at least once in your life. this is fine. (but also let your doc know).
how you gain and lose fat and where you do so will change. this is fine.
how you smell will change. this is fine. (fishy or rotten smells mean doctor time though)
if you have a prostate: it gets harder to pee. prostates enlarge as you age (get this checked regularly). this is fine.
if you do not have a prostate: it gets easier to pee but not in a good way. as in as you get older, your pelvic floor muscles tend to lose some of their strength. this makes it harder to keep pee in. this is fine.
all breasts and pectorals eventually sag, with the rest of your body. this is fine.
a decent percent of the population will experience a cyst at least once. some of you will make up for the rest with multiple. this is fine, but keep them checked out by a doctor. (sometimes this is a condition! get checked for that too!)
almost half of everyone gets hemorrhoids. it's a good idea to just expect them since your chances of getting them get higher the older you are. your toilet will look like a murder scene. definitely get your booty checked out BUT this is almost always perfectly normal. just eat more fiber. "but I already-" eat more fiber. and maybe suck it up and buy some hemorrhoid cream, you'll thank me later.
yes, this means you will probably need to make an appointment for a doctor to see your butthole. it's okay. not only do they really not care but 1. they've seen weirder that day and 2. they'd far rather you see them now than later when it's been going on for forty years and now it might be colon cancer. it's okay. consider it a rite of passage.
adults need more sleep than children. don't believe the myth that you need less than they do. that is capitalist propaganda to make you give up more of your life to the work grind, comrade.
vitamins and medicine, something you are more likely to take as you get older, sometimes make the toilet turn weird colors. it's okay.
if you still have your tonsils and get those little stones and get sore throats more than once a year you should plan on getting those suckers out before the tonsils cause an infection and go septic. if you're getting stones at all you should get those reevaluated every year, especially if the stones are bigger than a needlehead (or get bigger over time). it's gross and yucky. I don't care. get them looked at before you end up in the hospital.
you'll probably need to add foot support to your shoes if you don't already do. this is fine.
your body changes. sometimes it can feel sorta weird and upsetting that it isn't what it used to be. that is okay, and it is okay to be upset. just know that this is normal, it's normal to be upset or not upset, but don't let it hinder your quality of life. trans or cis, there is a certain level of acceptance you just gotta give your body and forgive your body for as you get older. it's okay.
it's okay. I promise.

hi sorry i dont really know how the zine works. will the works be available only for those who buy the zine? or like you can post the fic on ao3 eventually? i ask bc ur my favorite jayroy writer and im dying to read ur next fic, but im not in the us so the price is about 5x more expensive for me and its not really the kind of money i can spend on a fanzine unfortunately lol
Totally understand! I'll post it on AO3 about a month after the zine becomes available.

i'm relatively new to comic reading and im having this problem where i keep only reading the dialogue/barely glancing at the art bc im so used to reading novels. i didnt really have the same problem with reading manga tho? and i struggle a lot with there not being a clear, chronological list of material to read through, and some (a lot) of characters being slightly different in different comics (obviously due to their varying writers). if u had any advice, i would be very grateful! all that aside, do you have any (selina kyle) catwoman recs, or just any runs that are very lore heavy/what you would deem as essential reads for someone interested in dc canon but with no idea where to begin?
Okay, breaking all these questions down separately:
Only reading the text and ignoring the art: I catch myself doing this a lot too. For me, it's not that I'm not a visual person, because I absolutely am, but that might be playing a role for you? The main reason for me is that I want to read as many comics as possible so I tend to rush to try to get through them faster, and I try to catch myself when I do and pay attention to the art, because that's the story too - you will miss things if you only look at the text. I'm also much more likely to pay attention to the art in print. Devices that break up the page, like a tiny phone screen or a computer screen that cuts it in half, are going to inevitably interrupt the way your brain processes the art. I've found the best device for reading digitally is a tablet, if you have that option, because it mimics the size and shape of a comics page, and even that isn't ideal for two-page spreads. But it helps!
No clear, chronological list to read through: You can create these! I do it all the time. I'll make myself a reading list of a character's appearances (either just their major appearances, or EVERYTHING if I'm going ham) and just work through it. Or I'll go through every Flash book in order, every Titans book in order, whatever. It's not perfect because of crossovers but it makes it more digestible. Comic Vine is a great resource here because you can see all of a character's appearances by series. BUT I will also say that the lack of one streamlined narrative is IMO a feature, not a bug...because it means there's always a new path to go down. I will never get to "the end" of the DC story (or Marvel) because there are so many byways of it that I know so little about, and that brings me great joy.
Characterization varying: Again, to me this is a feature, not a bug. But I have been fascinated literally since I was a child by characters who have sort of a core truth to them but are interpreted differently based on the story/storyteller/medium, whether that's folkloric figures like King Arthur and Robin Hood, or corporate-owned characters like Donald Duck and Bugs Bunny. Like. Literally since I was a small child I was obsessed with the way both Disney and WB portrayed their characters as "actors" whose personalities could be adjusted based on the needs of the story. (I was a weird kid.) And because I take the historian's eye, I think it's really interesting to watch, say, Superman go from 1930s populist troublemaker to 1950s oppressive patriarch etc. as social mores and the comic book industry itself shifted. Of course it doesn't mean bad characterization isn't annoying, but it helps.
Catwoman: I am really not well versed on Catwoman so I am throwing this one out to the folks in the notes! Although I will say I loved the recent Cliff Chiang Catwoman: Lonely City miniseries, and of course the Brubaker/Cooke run is iconic (though I confess I haven't read it yet!).
Essential reads with lore: You should absolutely be reading the current Mark Waid series New History of the DC Universe. He is somehow managing to condense the entire history of the DCU from the beginning of reality to now into four issues, and pretty much incorporating every reboot and reality? I'm so impressed with how he's merging actively contradictory timelines and making it feel natural. It's not really a story so much as a list of things happening, but it's very elegantly done and has the benefit of being obviously extremely current.
I will say I wouldn't worry so much about reading the "important" books which were all decided by white men in the 80s who thought putting sexual assault in a comic made it Art. Like if you google this it's going to be all The Killing Joke and Watchmen and Sandman and like...okay. Whatever. Fine. I think you're better served by reading what is recommended by people you trust or just following characters you like. But here are some essential and/or lore-heavy reads:
Crisis on Infinite Earths: Not actually a good comic (it's both boring and incomprehensible no matter how much DC stuff you know) but if you want a bafillion characters doing something very Important, this is the book for you. George Perez is doing the most with the art, at least.
New Teen Titans: An Important book of the 80s that holds up (until it doesn't, but you can dip when Perez does).
Man of Steel (1987): The miniseries setting up the post-Crisis Superman which also basically defined the modern Superman.
The Flash (1987): People recommend the Waid run, but I suggest starting at the beginning of the series. The first few issues are rough, but the Messner-Loebs run that comes before Waid is excellent and sets up a lot of Waid's material. This is THE book if you want to learn about the Flash family. Waid in general is a very good writer to go to for lore.
Starman (1994): This series sort of hangs out by itself and builds its own lore, but it's a masterpiece.
JLA/Titans: Every Teen Titan ever (at least who was a Titan at the time) and they're all written perfectly. Major stakes. Vic and Gar are married. A must.
JSA (1999): I can't believe I'm out here reccing a Geoff Johns book but this is before he got unbearable.
Gail Simone's Birds of Prey: Groundbreaking female rep, great character work for Babs, Dinah, Helena, and more. The art is...cheesecakey, sigh.
I hope that helps get you started!

i think of jason acting as food tour guide around gotham a lot. he would find all the little places that might be otherwise invisible ofc & drag ppl there & also have them stop at random food trucks & it would be such an experience for everyone involved because the lore drop woukd be insane. like *points at gargoyle* its where batman & catwoman are spotted fucking at least twice a year *points to gargoyle on the opposite building* thats where they always break up. the roof top has been legendary screaming matches. a hand goes up 'yes?' 'where do they have make up sex' 'fuck if i know'
