The Druze tell Smotrich off in occupied Majdal Shams
The visit of Israeli ministers to the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan has angered the residents, according to the Israeli media. Channel 13 reported angry protesters shouted at Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, asking him to leave. “Get out of here, criminal, we don’t want you in the Golan,” one person said, according to the broadcaster.

US Senate to consider sanctions against ICC staff, ban on US visas
The US Congressional Senate is discussing the possibility of imposing sanctions on a number of International Criminal Court (ICC) officials, as well as banning their US visas, Fox News reports.
The resolution, led by Sens. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital, recommends that President Biden and Congress “impose financial sanctions and visa bans on International Criminal Court officials for abuses of power that threaten the interests of the US and weaken its allies.”
The resolution would put on record that the US Senate “stands with Israel and fully rejects the International Criminal Court’s actions against senior Israeli officials.”
In addition, the resolution calls on allies and partners, who the senators note are largely responsible for funding the ICC, to “use their leverage to stop the politicised proceedings”.

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on Monday announced he has "formally applied" for arrest warrants for the top political and military leaders of Hamas as well as the Israeli government on "war crimes" and "crimes against humanity" charges related to the October 7 attack by Palestinian militants and the brutal assault on the people of Gaza that Israel unleashed in response.
In a world exclusive carried by CNN, the ICC's chief prosecutor Karim Khan told correspondent Christiana Amanpour that arrest warrants are being sought for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for their role "in the crimes of causing extermination, causing starvation as a method of war, including the denial of humanitarian relief supplies, [and] deliberately targeting civilians in conflict."
"Nobody is above the law," said Khan.
Khan and his team also announced the charges formally in a statement as well as a video address.

On the basis of evidence collected and examined by my Office, I have reasonable grounds to believe that Benjamin NETANYAHU, the Prime Minister of Israel, and Yoav GALLANT, the Minister of Defence of Israel, bear criminal responsibility for the following war crimes and crimes against humanity committed on the territory of the State of Palestine (in the Gaza strip) from at least 8 October 2023:
Starvation of civilians as a method of warfare as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(b)(xxv) of the Statute;
Wilfully causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or health contrary to article 8(2)(a)(iii), or cruel treatment as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(c)(i);
Wilful killing contrary to article 8(2)(a)(i), or Murder as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(c)(i);
Intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population as a war crime contrary to articles 8(2)(b)(i), or 8(2)(e)(i);
Extermination and/or murder contrary to articles 7(1)(b) and 7(1)(a), including in the context of deaths caused by starvation, as a crime against humanity;
Persecution as a crime against humanity contrary to article 7(1)(h);
Other inhumane acts as crimes against humanity contrary to article 7(1)(k).

While it seems great on paper that the ICC has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for their role in war crimes in Gaza, it won’t actually achieve much. It’s important to remember that international law is mostly symbolic, and while it’s been a useful tool for advocating for Palestinians, it hasn’t really achieved much for Palestinians. it’s also non-enforceable, and beyond a human rights framework, it doesn’t address issues of power dynamics or or do much to advance national liberation, particularly against occupation and colonisation. Even if Gallant and Netanyahu were to be arrested, which they might not be, the state of Israel will still exist tomorrow, a new leader will arise, the occupation and oppression will persist, and Palestinians will still be killed. International law can be useful as i mentioned but will not liberate Palestinians, especially when powerful states can breach resolutions with impunity all they like.

Germany becomes the second state, after the UK, to attempt to stop the ICC from issuing arrest warrants against Israeli leaders
The move is likely to delay the issuance of arrest warrants to Israeli leaders and comes as reports emerge that a decision will be made soon.
Britain, like Germany attempted to argue, based upon a technicality, that the request of the International Criminal Court (ICC)'s Prosecutor, Karim Khan, be declined and there not be arrest warrants issued for Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
This is important as neither nation attempted to argue that Israeli leaders had not committed war crimes, but instead chose other methods of attempting to get their Israeli allies off the hook.

The former head of the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, allegedly threatened a chief prosecutor of the international criminal court in a series of secret meetings in which he tried to pressure her into abandoning a war crimes investigation, the Guardian can reveal.
Yossi Cohen’s covert contacts with the ICC’s then prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, took place in the years leading up to her decision to open a formal investigation into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in occupied Palestinian territories. That investigation, launched in 2021, culminated last week when Bensouda’s successor, Karim Khan, announced that he was seeking an arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, over the country’s conduct in its war in Gaza. The prosecutor’s decision to apply to the ICC’s pre-trial chamber for arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his defence minister, Yoav Gallant, alongside three Hamas leaders, is an outcome Israel’s military and political establishment has long feared. Cohen’s personal involvement in the operation against the ICC took place when he was the director of the Mossad. His activities were authorised at a high level and justified on the basis the court posed a threat of prosecutions against military personnel, according to a senior Israeli official. Another Israeli source briefed on the operation against Bensouda said the Mossad’s objective was to compromise the prosecutor or enlist her as someone who would cooperate with Israel’s demands. A third source familiar with the operation said Cohen was acting as Netanyahu’s “unofficial messenger”. Cohen, who was one of Netanyahu’s closest allies at the time and is emerging as a political force in his own right in Israel, personally led the Mossad’s involvement in an almost decade-long campaign by the country to undermine the court.

it is frightening and disturbing to hear Yoav Gallant call Palestinians "human animals" but I want those who are just tuning in to be aware that this dehumanizing rhetoric isn't new. The occupation has been calling Palestinians animals since the very beginning. Moshe Dayan, who orchestrated numerous massacres in his role as defense minister during the 1967 war, called Palestinians "jackals." Yitzhak Shamir, two-term prime minister and perpetrator of the 1946 King David Hotel bombing and 1948 Deir Yassin massacre, said Palestinians are like "grasshoppers; you need to stomp on them every once in a while." Prime minister Ehud Barak, decorated with military awards from both the IOF and the US, said in 2000 that Palestinians are like "crocodiles, the more you give them meat, they want more." General Rafael Etain, after instituting a policy of mass arrests without cause which is still practiced, bragged in 1983 that "all the Arabs will be able to do is scuttle around like drugged cockroaches in a bottle." Deputy defense minister Eli Ben-Dahan said in 2013, "to me, they are like animals, they aren’t human." for decades the IOF has described their regularly scheduled massacres as "mowing the grass"; in 2021 national security strategist David M. Weinberg wrote in the Jerusalem Post, "Just like mowing your front lawn, this is constant, hard work. If you fail to do so, weeds grow wild and snakes begin to slither around in the brush." In 2014, legislator Ayelet Shaket proposed that the mothers of murdered Palestinian men should be killed along with their sons: "They should go, as should the physical homes in which they raised the snakes. Otherwise, more little snakes will be raised there. They have to die and their houses should be demolished so that they cannot bear any more terrorists." In 2002, IOF chief of staff Moshe Ya'alon compared Palestinians to a "cancer" to be eradicated. In 2000, Ovadia Yosef, Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel, said "how can you make peace with a snake?" These are all statements made publicly by public officials, not behind closed doors. Characterizing a population as vermin is textbook strategy for justifying genocide, and what the occupation does to Palestinians is even more dehumanizing than what they say
