Random question: what are your thoughts on Dick's and Wally's friendship?
They're one of the greatest friendships in DC and that's canon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flash Plus
Idk about you, but I believe that if you do annual roadtrips with your best friend just because you love spending time with them, then you can't possibly be closer than them.
Actually their friendship is so special that they have an entire comic just dedicated to the two of them being friends. That's how close they are - "Flash Plus".
Wally always covers for Dick
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) Issue #73
"Go over to best friend's apartment and pretend to hurl."
For sure they're childhood best friends. The ones that grow up together and probably took baths together but still sitting in a hot tub not even six feet apart because they're just that close.
What they call themselves:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996)
They tell each other everything going on in their lives.
They're so close that Dick actually snuck Wally into the Batcave
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Flash (1987) Issue #210
And then Wally shit talks Batman just to make Dick feel better and gets caught
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'LOOK AT THE WAY BRUCE LOOKS SO MAD. HE FULL ON HAS HIS HANDS ON HIS HIPS 😂😂😂 LOVE THAT
"*growl* *growl* keep talking. I dare you. *GROWL*"
Because while Dick acts as the world's emotional support human being, Wally acts as Dick's personal one. He always watches out for his best friend's emotional wellbeing.
For example, when Dick didn't want to reform the Titans, Wally explains why he brought it up. And why he's insisting on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You need this."
Tumblr media
The Titans (1999) Issue #1
"My mission is to keep you from turning into your guardian. Batman may be a loner, but you need a family around you." "You'd really join another team just so I could have a social life?"
Wally's personal mission in life is making sure Dick is happy, safe, and healthy.
He tells Dick secrets he NEVER tells anyone else
Tumblr media
The Flash (1987) Issue #210
"I only told that story to one person. Dick Grayson...my best friend."
His greatest regret and sorrow is that he doesn't get to see Dick more often
Tumblr media
If Wally had his way, Dick would be living with him and Linda since the day they got married.
The only times they fight is when Dick is being too self-destructive and won't listen to reason so Wally ends up getting mad.
When Barbara can't get through to Dick, she sends her failsafe to pick him up and knock some sense into him
Tumblr media
Dick is literally depressed and wants to give up after he killed the Joker. He won't listen and so what does Barbara do?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) Issue #63
And thank god it works. Even if Dick won't listen to anyone, he'll listen to Wally.
Wally loves Dick an extreme amount.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The Flash is disassembling an entire collapsed, burning building. He doesn't have super-strength. He's just working as fast as he can. He'll do whatever it takes to get to me."
Tumblr media
"He heals fast, but he's probably broken his fingers several times..."
And Dick loves Wally just as much.
Tumblr media
Nightwing (2016) Issue #90
"My best friend."

what are some of the strengths and weaknesses of 1987 Michelangelo’s character? I have the hardest time writing for him outside of the super obvious “surfer bro” persona honestly
tbh,, I rarely write for 87... they're too witty,,, I have some wips but as far as writing the 87 boys are definitely not my strength
That said! 1987 Michelangelo! Love that guy. hmmm strengths and weaknesses
Weaknesses
-he can be clueless at times. needs things explained multiple times or doesn't pick up on things other characters were counting on him picking up on. this can be a very useful for plot reasons, he can simply forget what he was told or not understand it and therefore fail to act on it
-very obsessed with pizza. more so than the other turtles
-along that vein, generally not difficult to distract
-hard to motivate. he mostly wants to make himself and those around him comfortable, and he's very good at finding simple easy ways to do that. So whatever task needs to be done for whatever other reason, better find a way to make it comfortable and fun, he has a high threshold. For example during training sometimes he would simply rather enjoy the nice weather and there is nothing Master Splinter or anyone else can say
-this goes with hard to motivate, but in the ep where Leonardo leaves and the others have to try to lead, when it's his turn he's just very passive. he is pretty good about knowing what needs done, but he is definitely not one to take charge, and more than likely he'll wait to be told what to do unless the situation is very urgent
-he does not enjoy watching pro-wrestling, to his brothers' dismay
Strengths!!
-sweetest heart of all time. brings home injured animals, takes them to the zoo so he can learn about how to take care of them or give them to someone who can
-btw he can talk to animals
-often is the one tending to his brothers if they're sore after a battle. not first aid, but like fluffing a pillow or just patting their back. He probably holds their hand while antiseptic is applied. Definitely hugs them when they cry
-very loyal. throws a birthday party for Irma. never believes something bad he hears about someone he knows (he'll say "no way, amigo" if someone who isn't present to defend themselves is accused of literally anything)
-strong moral compass, AND
-the ability to communicate persuasively about what he thinks is right. More often than not he uses the same sentence (what you're doing is majorly wrongiouso) (or something like that siahdhsj), but it's the way he says it amd the timing that's important. He understands people, and as much as he always sees the best in them, he also knows how to bring out the best in them. Idk I don't think I'm explaining it too well, but... he's not just blindly trusting. Trust is a choice he makes out of kindness, but then he will hold people to a standard. Does that make sense?
-great with kids
-he's a good mediator, hears out both sides
-faces his fears (he has the most stage fright of them all but by the end of the ep where they appeared on camera he was also handling it the best)
-he can put his foot down when he needs to. very cool trait for the Nice Guy character to have, y'know?
-not afraid to emote! sobs openly because the stove is broken! hugs! speaks up when he is upset! expresses joy for the little things! 🧡
-psychic (i think? probably? might not know it? i remember feeling like it was implied but I'd have to go find the episode(s) alskjdjvf) (pretty sure it wasn't explicit but like. he's psychic okay)
-so much patience
-everyone loves the way he talks. they're always mimicking him. i remember one time when Leonardo asked a question, Michelangelo was standing right there, and Donatello literally said, "Well as Michelangelo would say" and then said what Michelangelo would say and was in fact about to say, then Michelangelo went to say it and got all confused alfjshsjj. Also Shredder will do this too! And you know you're good when Shredder copies you. He had aspirations of being a writer before he turned to villainy, you know (or maybe you didn't but now you do)

silence is gold
Tumblr media
2024/01 (full view)
discourse is silver, silence is gold
I drew a gold bg with copics for something on non-tmnt acc and that got me in a mood. I went "huh, neat, liquid gold would be so nice" and then got hit with inspo and here we are. More input under the cut.
So, stay with me for a hot minute, this is not little Present Day Leon, this is Future Leonardo, but in baby, sorta. I just went with the notion of dripping gold and drew Leo and he became progressively more unsettled and then I was like "yeah no that is the Leo who had to go through live without his older self being there to pick up the pieces." Also F!Leo is, in my story, canonically deeply unsettled and lowkey terrified by larger bodies of water - so rule of the thumb could be that if I draw a Leo not having a good time with H2O it is probably F!Leo in his youth. Which will make sense once I get around to explain it organically in like.. what.. Chapter 2 maybe. (they say, having not even fully drafted Chapter 1, while already dreaming of Chapter 3) But while we are on that topic, one thing I could ramble about is that all the kids mystic powers are more rooted in elements, and here I had to play a bit fast 'n loose with both the 4 element and 5 element systems because I have six kids to account for so I hope I can be forgiven that Wood and Air exist both in this one. But yeah so Leo's mystic powers are related to water, the element fits him and in my head it makes the most sense to link his powers up to water, especially the portals when I think about how still waters and mirroring water surfaces are linked to doorways to other worlds, the afterlife, and so on. Imagine Leo just pulling the humidity right out of the air to manifest his portals or something like that. Manifesting swords outta thin air due to water. Also idk okay I just think, with water being so versatile, being wild and calm capable of changing on a dime, treacherous, nurturing, dangerous but without it we could not even exist. I always just linked Leo in general to water but that association runs all the way back to the 2003 series (I need to rewatch the 1987 series to see if the association hits me there too tbh)
But yeah, in general, I have a lot of concepts and little things that pop up while I focus on the core story and the element thing will come up here 'n there, but it ain't the main focus. I just think it is funny to mention how Leo's powers are absolutely based in the element water and F!Leo is terrified of water. (which will come up and become a rather important at some point both the why and what that meant for him and his powers or the lack thereof) I also have another picture in the works of Leo in the water, but it is little Leo who has no water based trauma so he is having a better time in the drawing than his counterpart.

YPI PROJECT BEAT MY ASS AND I’M SUPER TIRED BUT THE TOO MANY TURTLES COMMENTARY GRIND NEVER STOPS ‼️‼️💯💯💯
Tumblr media
betrayal…. (playing uno is 100% more worth your time than patrol, can confirm, best game ever, played a game with 20 people in a german exchange (but it was kinda quick since we only had one pack of cards and. well. 20 people))
Tumblr media
HELL YEAH, WE’RE MAKING PROGRESS!!!!! (i have a feeling this might get a bit angsty…)
Tumblr media
😭😭😭😭 (speech to text is really annoying i get the struggle)
Tumblr media
y’know, of all the turtles to slander clothes, i didn’t think it’d be him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
god noooo the feels 😭😭 (i never quite experienced the bad-teacher side of the neurodivergent experience (my physics teacher was crazy supportive despite the fact i never scored higher than a 40% in his class) but i would get a loooottttt of shit from classmates,,,,,,, sucks ass i feel for mm mikey)
Tumblr media
gotta keep expanding your horizons!
Tumblr media
ok but. of all the turtles………
Tumblr media
love it when this happens
Tumblr media
taking action! (also hold on 2012 mikey is an adult in his timeline???)
sighhhh i hope tech stays with the mikeys forever because their dynamiccccc 😭😭😭
not sure if i’m ready for the angst that is most likely coming our way. BUT i’m excited for it
Happy you liked my insane rambles again!
Referring to what you said about teachers, I have personally had some struggle throughout school with the way they teach things which I kind of use to write the issue mm mikey is having, very loosely. Though I don’t have a neurodivergency diagnosed (though a lot of people have kind of told me that I most definitely probably have big ADD or something similar rattling in the old noggin so idk) I learn much differently to what schools want. I am a very hands on learner, and really struggle with visual/auditory classes. It’s like being told how to write a good story but not actually doing it - I just tune out, or it is difficult to get it to “click” unless I explain it to myself in a weird way that actually makes much more sense to me. Once this “click” happens it’s great, I have no issues, but I have a lot of questions and thoughts that others don’t get prior to this point that I’ve unfortunately been disregarded for, as my teacher just didn’t want to explain and deemed me as stupid and needing extra classes because I didn’t learn in the same way. Not to brag but I’m pretty intelligent without even studying so this was a slap in the face for me.
So yeah, I kinda based at least some elements on this experience, though obviously a lot is also made up/fictionalised.
Wow that was a ramble
Anyway, you also mentioned Mikey’s age? I don’t think I’ve ever properly written down the ages outside of a discord I am in that talks about this fic, oops. In short, the timelines are not linear, but rather dotted around the place. A breakdown:
1987 are the ones where I’m not 100% sure on what to age them as, but I imagine around 17 - 19, all the same age
Rise boys are about 6 months - a year after the events of the movie
2012 are about 20 - 22, a few years after their final series (with Mikey being an extra 2 years ahead due to Dimension X)
2007 are what I believe are their cannon ages at 21? Takes place a few months after their 2007 movie (I also consider the 90s movies to be from the same universe due to the details present in 2007)
2003 are a few years after the crossover movie, making them the oldest at around 25 (Mikey being 24 due to him being a few months or so younger when they were sold)
Mutant mayhem boys are literally a couple of weeks after their movie
Bayverse boys are a year after their second movie
Hopefully that clears things up a little :)

LET DOWN AND HANGING AROUND (CRUSHED LIKE A BUG IN THE GROUND)
Ahoy! This is my first VERY LATE ficlet for @corrodedcoffinfest ! My absolute bad for being so late, but BOY am I HAPPY TO BE HERE!
Warm Up Prompt One: Taxed. Word Count: 1000 (scrivener says 1000 Wordcounter says 979. IDK Man, it’s within limit), Rating: T, Pairing: None, CW: Swears, Smoking, Angst Tags: Eddie, Gareth, Jeff, Freak
----
October 1987
They've been at this for fucking years. Eddie feels like a fucking girl scout.
'Well hello there Mr. Music Man, would you like to buy a box of shitty garage band metal?'
Except they weren't fucking shitty. All of the guys had been working their assess off, writing, playing shows, shitty gig after shitty gig after shitty gig.
But they haven't managed anything. Nothing, zilch, nada.
They had a small crowd showing up at the Hideout, and the owner, Benny, started letting them play not only their usual Tuesday but because Eddie had been helping him with placehe was letting them play Saturday nights now too, which was great because while he appreciates the likes of his uncle and Wayne's best friends on Tuesdays, there were almost twenty people every Saturday night and that was something.
They also had a standing gig at a bar in Indianapolis at least once a month, lately they've been playing The Barrel every other week and Eddie thought--he thought--that that would get them somewhere.
The guys were fucking exhausted but Eddie kept pushing because they could do this. Corroded Coffin was great. They were great and somebody was going to see that…right?
Eddie saw what they had. He did. But the guys--
"C'mon Ed, we can't keep sneaking Gareth into bars forever. I think we need to--maybe consider other options or--" Jeff rambles. They were supposed to be practicing but Jeff Williams had to swoop inwith his stupid common sense bullshit. Jeff motherfucking Williams is one of the best guitarists Eddie has ever had to the privilege of listening to, but Jeff wants to go college like a real boy!
Gareth cuts him off, "It's just the two bars man, and I have a fake, if I need it anyw--"
Would you look at that, it's time for Freddy to cut in. "Yeah, but you're three feet tall and have the face of a newborn child."
Gareth shoves at Freddy's chest. "Oh fuck off, man. At least I'm not a virgin!" He yelps and great. This is great.
Now the band is fighting, again, because Jeff wants to go to College, Goodie is a Virgin, and Gareth is short.
Eddie just want to play music.
If they all want to yell, Eddie can yell louder. "See. Do you see what happens when you start talking about 'other options' Jeff? Chaos--and not the fun kind!"
"See, Eddie--this is the fucking problem with you. All you care about is your music, your dream, It's all about you!"
Jeff is yelling at Eddie, Gareth and Freak are rough housing, how did this even happen. All Eddie wants is to do something. Be something. He believes in this, in Jeff, and Freddy and Gareth, in the band.
And he gets that everyone is taxed, tired. Eddie is fucking exhausted. Gareth is trying to not fail his senior year. He gets it, he does, but-- "You know what, Jeff?" His voice breaks, and isn't that fucking humiliating? "Some of us, don't have college as an option. Did you ever consider that?"
Eddie leans over and grabs his cigarettes from the table, before shoulder checking Jeff as he leaves.
——
What’s the fucking point? Eddie puts everything into lyrics that people probably don't even know, all of them spend hours writing and harmonizing, making sure chords make sense, just for everything to be a pipe dream. They haven't taken a break for anything. It's either work or school or Coffin Shit. They haven't played D&D in months. They've just been doing this.
But it's all Eddie has. How the hell was he ever going to get out of shitty ass Hawkins, if it wasn't this way? He didn't exactly ace his finals--even the third time around. Honestly? He's pretty sure they just let him pass, to get him the fuck out of there.
He lights up what feels like his eighth cigarette--it's not, it's his second--and stares out to the empty street. They use Gareth's garage to practice…for being as straight laced as she is, Ms. Emerson sure does believe in the band.
Dottie Emerson and Eddie. God dammit, maybe Jeff is right.
He should go back, he should go back and apologize, and let this go. He has the job at the Hideout, he can save and maybe move to Indy--play an acoustic at some bars or…something.
God, he's just so tired of this shit.
He finishes his cigarette, and tries to breathe. Breathe in--hold--breathe out--he doesn't realizes Jeff until he taps his shoulder.
"Hey." Jeff says, quiet. Eddie, just nods, grabs his pack and offers a cancer-filled olive branch. Jeff takes it.
Eddie doesn't say anything. Doesn't want to, doesn't know what he should say.
So Jeff does. "I'm sorry, Ed. I didn't mean to make you upset. I'm just fucking tired man, we all are and I do want this, I do, but it's fucking scary." Eddie turns, watches Jeff blow out smoke. "I got accepted to IU, did you know that?"
Eddie blinks. He did not know that. "No, you hadn't mentioned it."
Jeff turns to look at him, "I didn't want this to happen."
Eddie closes his eyes, takes in a deep breath. In--hold--out. "You should go." He forces a smile, watches as Jeff's eyes shine for a moment--no wonder he had that silly crush on him his second senior year, but it was only for like a week, leave it alone--before he srunches his face up, Eddie can't help but laugh. Jeff always does that, when he's stressed. It makes him look like a rabbit.
Jeff goes to speak, but Eddie cuts him off. "Let's do this Halloween show, it'll be our going away gift to our tens of adoring fans."
Jeff laughs at that, nods, and pulls Eddie into a hug.
Everything will be fine, with or without Corroded Coffin.

leo’s always been my favourite too! if i could ask, what makes him your fav? i personally just love how the writers always put heavy emphasis on just how much leo cares for his family and how he’s willing to do anything for them no questions asked. i’ve also always been a sucker for the mom friend trope
Oh geez, idk. I guess if I really have to think about it, I suppose I feel like I see myself a lot in him. Like I’ve totally done (or do) some of the things he does XD Between his burden of responsibility and dorky nerd hero thing, I dunno I just really relate to it and love it!
I will say though, season 1 and 2 Leo is my favorite version of him. I think Seth Green isn’t as natural sounding when delivering Leo’s cringy hero lines and nerd ramblings, whereas Jason Biggs and Dominic Catrambone absolutely nailed it.
Now, don’t get me wrong! I do like Seth Green’s voice for Leonardo, I just think season 3 Leo onward he’s much more serious to match his much more serious voice, which I do like just not as much as silly Leo, if that makes any sense lol XD
I think I also really love his visual design. Believe it or not I really REALLY hated their visual style when I first started watching the show. After the second or third episode I actually gave up cause I hated it so much, and watched the first few episodes of 2003 instead. Although after seeing more tumblr posts of everyone swearing it’s the most amazing show ever, I decided to give it another shot. I think around episode 5 I started actually liking the way the turtles look, and now I think it’s actually my favorite design of Leonardo!
Tumblr media
Also I probably have a bias because Leonardo has always been my favorite since I was little. I grew up on the original 1987 tv show and in that show I also loved Leonardo (I was a really cringy kid, actually scratch that I still AM a cringey kid) XD

20 Fic Writer Questions
@dreamwatch tagged me and I have been so slammed at work but the show is open now and am able to look at my tags.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
11!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
146,941
3. What fandoms do you write for?
On this account its been Stranger Things, Baldur's Gate 3 and Critical Role - because we're sticking to a Dungeons and Dragons adjacent theme completely not on purpose.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
UNTITLED RECORDING rcd ca. 1987-1988 ANACRUSIS ca. 1987 head line sunflower broke wait, runner
5. Do you respond to comments?
I sincerely try to! I get them pretty infrequently so I'm always so tripping over myself to say something in response and surely sound like a total dipshit when I do. I know there are a few in my inbox I haven't responded to yet because work has my free time in a vice grip at the moment.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh surely dog at the door - the ending was always intended to be vague and open to interpretation but I cannot imagine any good faith interpretation to the ending is like. good. Runner up is probably of or pertaining to the body, which only takes the runner up status because its an elaboration on canon events that are objectively harrowing, versus with dog where I have engineered speculative misery for the express purpose of being miserable.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
head line, I think, is my only published fic with an unambiguously optimistic ending. I think there's been hope and happiness in my other fics, but not without caveats or as of yet unaddressed emotional complication in the futures of those stories. idk does that even make sense?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not so far as I know but who knows, maybe there are corners of the internet talking mad shit what do I know?
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I have said it before and I will say it again, I feel like one of my greatest failings as a writer is my inability to write smut without cringing myself inside out. I just don't think I'm any good at it. Smut lives in my heart though.
10. Do you write crossovers?
I suppose it depends on what one's definition of a crossover is? Like where's the line between an AU and a crossover? One time I wrote a DnD ST AU that includes no established WotC DnD NPCs but all of its world building, is that a crossover? Or does a crossover only constitute as a crossover as a matter of disparate series characters interacting? I have questions.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
lmao aint no on reading my business I cannot imagine anyone would be so moved to do so
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't believe so, but I also haven't looked into it.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I've definitely worked on collaborative projects before, they all exist in various states of planning or semi-publication or DM hollering. I enjoy it, its like playing toys with your friends.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
It really depends what I'm in the mood for? Vibes wise lol? I have a handful of ships that I constantly rotate around in my brain like a rotisserie chicken that re-enter the hyperfocus zone on a semi regular schedule. Ask my about my forevergirl ships.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
lol could be any of them tbh
16. What are your writing strengths?
lmao lol even I'm so bad at self praise this is a nightmare. I like to think I have a deft hand with character voice, I like to think my writing feels generally grounded, lived in?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I really lack rigor, I think, when it comes to writing. I get discouraged by writers block very easily, I make it very easy for myself to walk away from a project. Which, I know isn't inherently a bad thing - some things just don't work out, or you don't have the time for that kind of commitment etc - but I often feel like there is a necessary momentum that I lose that just makes my creative endeavors just stagnate and I really struggle to manufacture that momentum for myself when it starts to diminish.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I think it depends, I think there are contexts where it's appropriate and contexts where its inappropriate. For me it boils down to like, one's ability to use the language authentically and grammatically, if the language being potentially inscrutable to the reader is part of the need of the use of another language - textually, does it feel authentic to the way multi-lingual speakers communicate, etc etc etc.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I think the first fic I wrote with the intent of public consumption was KHR? I think?
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Hm. This answer changes from time to time depending on how I'm feeling about my work in general, but I think right now sunflower broke is holding that top slot. It got me back into writing, it made me realize how much fun writing Eddie's character was for me, the themes that sort of preoccupy me about him floated to the surface there. Just a little scratch of the surface with that one.

i know this isn’t in the “ask me!” list but i’m just curious, what are your favourite sub genres in horror? which movies do you always gravitate toward bc they have certain themes/elements? i love finding out what makes horror “scary” for people!! <3
first off i want to say SORRY for taking so long to answer this, i haven't had the time to sit down and collect my thoughts because i really want to give this an articulate response. i have loved horror movies since i was little, so at this point there is little that necessarily "scares" me in the same way that other people get scared. however, some types of horror still get under my skin, for sure. but outside of what may personally scare me, there are subgenres that i just enjoy. note that a lot of the movies i list apply to multiple genres but. like. idk deal with it.
DAYLIGHT HORROR:
one of my favorite subgenres (if you can even call it that?) is daylight horror. horror movies typically happen during darkness/night time, which makes sense. obscured vision, more isolation, lack of awareness around you. what could be lurking in the darkness? what is there that you can't see? however, i think that daylight horror works really well because it's about what IS seen. that despite it being a seemingly "safe" time, there is still danger. and you can see it, but it can't be avoided. something about horror being in plain sight gets to me. some examples of this that i personally love are: the texas chainsaw massacre (1974), of course the passenger (2023), and midsommar (2019).
COSMIC HORROR:
i personally think there's something very primally horrific with cosmic horror. the idea that all of this, every single thing you feel or believe in, being completely insignificant in the grander scheme of things. that none of it even really matters at the end of the day because it was all completely out of your control. i dont know, things like that get to me especially for some reason! though they dont necessarily scare me, i find myself really relating to the characters and finding myself in their helpless plight to fight against something so much bigger than themselves. some examples of this that i am a fan of are: the thing (1982), in the mouth of madness (1994) , color out of space (2019), event horizon (1997).
BODY HORROR:
yesss... YESSS!! i am personally a big fan of gore in movies so, body horror is like my favorite thing. the desecration of the human body, twisting and morphing into something completely unrecognizable like yaesss... there's a lot of different ways movies utilize it, and typically body horror is coupled with cosmic horror so you'll probably see both in a movie. the thing and color out of space have good body horror, i'd also add society (1989), videodrome (1983) (honestly anything by david cronenberg is good), slither (2006), hellraiser (1987).
OCCULT HORROR:
now, here i have to admit a personal bias. i grew up in a very christian household, so, i think that definitely has something to do with occult horror getting to me. it's strange though because satanic horror typically doesn't really get to me, i think aside from longlegs but i think that movie utilized dread really well. i find satanic horror mostly lame and cheap tbh. but occult horror? something about that does get to me. i think it's because it also sort of plays into cosmic horror themes of helplessness and insignificance in the face of something bigger and greater. some movies that i really like are hereditary (2016), longlegs (2024), the wicker man (1973) , apostle (2018), rosemary's baby (1968) , suspiria (both the 1977 and the 2018).
PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR:
man, i really love psychological horrors. i love when fucked up things happen to people's psyches! i love when characters are driven to madness! love when they're confronted with their worst fears in the worst ways possible! love it, love it. another persona bias for me just because i am a psych student lol. there's so many i can list, uhm. love love love silence of the lambs (1991), get out (2017), the shining (1980), the lighthouse (2017), the ritual (2017), possessor (2020), jacob's ladder (1990), the night house (2020) (underrated honestly! im sad this one went under the radar), audition (1999), martyrs (2008), i could honestly go on and on...
SLASHER HORROR:
slashersss... oh my beloved, what can i really say? slashers are probably one of, if not my absolute favorite subgenre of horror. i know people tend to find them trite because of how formulaic they can be and how oversaturated the genre is, but if you really start looking, you can find some GREAT, great movies. i love the popular choices, like scream (1996) and halloween (1978) of course, but i think there's a lot of other hidden gems that come into play. behind the mask: the rise of leslie vernon (2006) is a really good commentary of the slasher genre as a whole. i think house of wax (2005) was also really fun! tucker and dale vs. evil (2010) is also another good satire of slashers. i really loved a nightmare on elm street 3: dream warriors (1987), too! aside from what they do with nancy :,) my bloody valentine (1981), chopping mall (1986)...

you only just followed me but i saw your bio, so:
analyse me lol
finally got around to doing this. man, i really gotta get back on my analyzation grind. anyways this is the most i was able to think of. not sure how accurate it'll end up being, but hopefully i'm able to get some things right lolll. and if not, hopefully you at least enjoyed reading through it:
autism. that is the very first thing that strikes me when scrolling through your blog to analyze stuff and i just needed to get that out of the way as soon as possible. the autism is undeniable. and if you're not autistic it's some sort of flavor of neurodivergent. i'm putting my bets on autism though.
you're a very honest and straightforward person. you're very clear about your boundaries and what you're trying to express when talking about things. it's incredibly respectable and a really good trait to have, but i feel like sometimes you question yourself for it. it's hard to describe but i'll try touching more on it later.
i feel like you're not a very talkative person in real life. considering you have a lot of deltarune posts, a large part of me feels like you relate to kris. you also just give off those vibes of someone who's a little monotone, not extremely talkative, but can definitely ramble about the things you're interested in. i also feel like the story arc of kris is something you probably relate to. i haven't analyzed kris enough to feel solid in describing their trauma but i know something in that is something you relate to. especially with the conflict of identity and knowing who you are. i have no idea how to describe that in kris terms but i know it's there.
rolling along with the deltarune ball, there's a whole lotta noelle in there too (which based btw, noelle is awesome). it makes me wonder if you relate to her too. maybe it's the overall anxiety she has, but i feel like it also ties into the idea of identity, losing yourself, or not completely knowing who you are. it's weird to describe because i feel like you do have a solid sense of who you are, it's just that every now and then you probably have some sort of moral crisis or existential crisis and it can send you spiraling if you think about it for too long. you seem like somebody who lives life the way that you want to, but there is still a slight underlying fear of both yourself and the world.
oh i just know you've questioned your gender a few times. maybe you haven't particularly dwelled on it for a long time, but i feel like you've def had that "maybe i'm not entirely cis" thought pop in your head every now and then.
this is honestly a tougher analyzation for me to pinpoint, but it's not because i can't tell anything about you, it's more like i could point at a character and go "that one's you" but i have no idea how to back it up lmaoooo. so here's some characters that i feel fit you but i have no idea why: Kris from Deltarune (duh), steve minecraft (idk why either), L from Death Note, Nick Carraway from The Great Gatsby, both Danny Saunders and Reuven Malter from The Chosen (1987 movie specifically), and also a weird mix Twilight Sparkle, Starlight Glimmer, and Maud Pie from MLP:FiM.
hopefully this provides something insightful and is at least semi-accurate. i usually do better analyzations on my @analyzing-people-like-hell account where i'm given a list of characters to work with, so if you want i'd gladly redo an analyzation over there. however i have been way off my analyzation grind so i make no promises on how long that'll take lolll. either way, my bad if this isn't all that accurate, but it was super fun to look through so thank you for the content B))

How old is Eddie Diaz?
So I noticed a thing in the graveyard sneak peek for 6x15, or rather two things:
Tumblr media
Shannon's last name is actually Diaz!
I wasn't sure about that one since I don't think it was ever mentioned on the show. Now it's obviously it's not far fetched to assume that she took Eddie's last name when they got married, especially since Christopher's last name is Diaz as well. Though I didn't want to make that assumption since my parents are married, both kept their names and I got my father's name since my parents drew lots.
Nice to have a confirmation now!
Shannon was born in 1992
Now that really threw me since I generally assume that the characters are around their actors' age. According to wiki, Devin Kelley (Shannon's actress) was born in 1986 (at least according to the non-English pages, on the English one and imdb no birthyear is given). This would make Shannon about six years younger than her actress. Ryan Guzman was born in 1987. If Eddie is Ryan's age then he's about 5 years older than Shannon which does not fit my image of them or the fandom's I think. I've often seen them described as high school sweethearts with the assumption that Shannon got pregnant in high school or right out of high school. That actually would not make sense if Shannon was indeed born in 1987.
Christopher was born in 2011, according to the fandom wiki, which does make sense since he's 7 in 2A aka 2018. That means that Shannon - born in 1992 - was about 19 at his birth and 18 when she got pregnant. If Eddie was born in 1987, then he'd been 24 (and 23) at those points. Now personally I don't really like that idea tbh.
But now let's assume that Eddie was born in about '92 as well. Then him and Shannon could actually have met in school, been in a relationship in school and Eddie might have entered the army right after school to monetarily support his wife and child.
If Eddie was born in '92-ish that would also mean that there is hardly any age difference between him and Buck who, according to the fandom wiki, was born in '91 or '92.
Personally I did always imagine Eddie to be older than Buck by a few years so yeah idk.
So to sum it up:
Shannon was born in 1992.
Does that mean that Eddie was born in '87 (like Ryan), meaning that Shannon got pregnant when she was 18 and he 23?
Does that mean that Eddie was born in '92-ish too, meaning that there is hardly any age difference between him and Buck?
If you want to have a look at what the latter would mean for Eddie's life, have a look at @capseycartwright's post that is currently making me feral.

Hi again!!
Here’s a question for you! If you had to pick, what would your top five episodes be from both the 1987 and 2012 series? 😃
Thanks again, and have a nice evening! 😁
hi!
this was kinda hard lol. i love so many episodes in both shows but here’s my answer right now:
1987
5. the big cufflink caper
this one was an immediate favorite. it’s fun, silly, and clever. each turtle has their time to shine. the plot is so ridiculous but i found myself intrigued by the steps taken to solve the mystery. it’s great
4. take me to your leader
i love the concept of the other 3 turtles trying to lead in leonardo’s absence. it really shows why leonardo is so needed in the team, while showing why the other turtles have other roles. raphael doesn’t want to lead but can ground the team and is most likely to see things as they are, donatello is competent beyond belief but doesn’t have the focus needed to be leader, and michelangelo has the kindness and talent to lead but is ultimately too short sighted. it’s leonardo’s drive and ambition and confidence that make him a good leader and him needing to find that again and see that his brothers need him is such an interesting premise, and the episode is great at the execution imo.
3. four musketurtles
leonardo gets hyperfixated on a book, bonks his head, and wakes up believing his is the main character. it’s just so funny and cam clarke’s british accent reminds me of liquid snake which i find hilarious. idk it’s just fun.
2. beware the lotus
lotus is my favorite character beside leonardo so of course this was gonna be on the top five lol. i love lotus and leonardo’s dynamic, and i just love lotus as a character. even if we don’t get to explore lotus’ character very much, the episode does a great job establishing lotus’ abilities: her combat prowess, her smarts, her wit, and even her self respect. and the fact that she can defeat shredder so easily … mwah i love it.
1. farewell lotus blossom
hehe now here’s the episode where we explore lotus’ character more. she’s insecure about not fitting in or having a family/clan. and the fact that she feels comfortable around leonardo enough to cry and laugh and tease like AHSKAHAK PLEASE I LOVE THEM. the whole onion scene is my favorite scene in the show. i just wish we could’ve seen how she dealt with her new life without the spirit within her. and more leolotus obviously. the one thing that bothers me about the episode is that shredder and his group don’t show up after chakahachi takes the role of villain. they just leave and we don’t see them for the rest of the episode lol.
some special mentions bc this show is great:
teenagers from dimension x
the maltese hamster
green with jealousy
raphael meets his match
donatello’s degree
leonardo versus tempestra
splinter vanishes
unidentified flying leonardo
turtles on the orient express
i’ve only seen the first 4 seasons and the europe side season tho so i’ll have more opinions once i finish it lol.
2012
5. the insecta trifecta
i think this episode explores raph’a trauma and fear really well, and it is by far the height of the later seasons (ngl i am a season 1 fan lol). i love raph’s interactions with splinter so much. it shows how much raph has grown since season 1, and splinter’s counsel reflects it. instead of teaching raph as an angry child, he teaching him as a struggling almost-adult. he’s patient and understanding with him, and raph is more respectful and is able to try and talk through his struggles more easily. i love it. also i have a horrible sense of humor and the ant french kiss scene sends me into hysterics every time lmao.
4. in dreams
hehe i’m a sucker for worst fears/nightmare type episodes. also the ANIMATION IS SO COOL IN THIS EPISODE??? AND CASEY SAVES THE DAY??? AND APRIL IS SO WORRIED ABOUT THEM THE ENTIRE TIME???? man i love it. i love most of the farmhouse arc but this one is so good x3
3. parasitica
i’m not even a mikey fan and i have a huge fear of insects, especially wasps. so i legit have no idea why i love this one as much as i do. but the plot is so … small? compared to the other episodes. a majority of it is just in the lair, and the turtles are the only characters other than the wasps. and it works so well. the story flows great and you feel the urgency of the situation. also mikey banging his head into the table so he doesn’t pass out is funny to me idk. also. ALL HAIL THE BEAN … why wasn’t april there tho? she was living with them during this time lol
2. monkey brains
this episode is the best donatello episode idc. not only is it the start of april and donnie becoming best friends (before then it was super awkward lol and april wasn’t quite used to him yet), but also it shows donnie’s flaws, strengths, and insecurities so clearly. i wish later episodes were this good at exploring his character. it’s like they hit his magnum opus way too early lmao and didn’t know where to go afterwards. he over-thinks. with fighting. with hanging out with april. and with his insecurities … doesn’t think april will just say yes to hanging out so he has to come up with an excuse of some sort … takes a lot of issue with the word “monstrosity” (thinks he’s a monster and doesn’t like to be reminded) … and i haven’t forgotten about april. this episode marks the first major glimpse of her powers. and when splinter first offers her training. LIKE IDK I JUST ADORE THIS EPISODE.
1. fungus humungous
is it wrong to have criticisms of my fav episode? xD i love leo’s fear, and april’s, and i do believe that donnie’s is appropriate (to some extent), but the others aren’t explored very well imo. and i wish mikey’s was the parasitica wasps instead of the stupid squirrelanoids smh. but i genuinely enjoy watching this episode on repeat lol. idk what to say rlly. it’s just interesting to me.
and some honorable mentions
i think his name is baxter stockman
never say xever
panic in the sewers
new girl in town
enemy of my enemy
karai’s vendetta
operation breakout
slash and destroy
the invasion
buried secrets
race with the demon
eyes of the chimera
the fourfold trap
the arena of carnage
the war for dimension x
mutant gangland (messy execution; fun premise)
tokka vs the world
when worlds collide
it’s easier for me to think about seasons as a whole rather than just episodes tho lol
season 1 is good from beginning to end. some episodes are better than others, but it all flows rlly well imo. also top tier comedic timing and i personally love the quick movements and quirky speaking animation.
season 2 has rlly good highs but boring lows? it does have the strength of flowing well tho. individual episodes aren’t easy for me to like (other than fungus humungous, slash and destroy, and the invasion), but there are good scenes throughout the season.
season 3 starts out super strong (with the exception of bigfoot episode and frog episode). i love the farmhouse arc so much. but then the rest of the season feels aimless and messy. i don’t rlly like the brain worm thing. they didn’t want karai to be a good guy yet so they drew out the villain karai thing way too long. i like the finale but there’s very little buildup.
season 4 should have been two seasons. the space arc is pretty fun, but a lot of the episodes had weird pacing and i wish there was more imo? like you have so many things you could do with a space arc but didn’t explore them. and then the last half was … meh. it could’ve been its own season to explore the arcs more. let april’s possession be more drawn out and a bigger issue, let don vizioso have more of an impact (especially for donnie), let splinter’s death be better written smh. also i hate the finale lmao
okay so … tbh i haven’t finished rewatching season 5 lmao. so i don’t remember lone rat and cubs, the usagi arc, the monster arc, the apocalypse arc, and the crossover arc very well. i’m rewatching the show with my sister tho so i’ll get there soon lol. but i really dislike the kavaxas arc?? it’s so useless imo?? why is tiger claw leading a cult?? and why are they resurrecting shredder when he already killed splinter which was his entire life goal?? and donnie had such a small murder problem THAT SHOULDVE HAD MORE IMPACT??? ugh. i like when worlds collide tho ajskahsk top tier. hehe ramona and apritello brain go brrr.
anyway sorry for my weird rant lol. thanks for the ask ^^

Damn turns out the hill I was dying on abt coding being intentional is wrong b/c of what the originators of coding as how we use it today said
"Specifically, we wish to propose a theory of coding and a provisional formal typology of the coding strategies we have observed in women's folklore and literature
[...]
By coding, then, we mean the adoption of a system of signals-words forms, signifiers of some kind-that protect the creator from the dangerous consequences of directly stating particular messages. Coding occurs in the context of complex audiences, in situations where some of the audience may be competent to decode the message, but others-including those who might be dangerous-are not. Thus a coded text is by definition complex, and its messages may be ambiguous. The coding need not be a conscious act.
Minnie Wright did not deliberately encode her murderous rage and despair into the chaos of her kitchen and sewing basket, but she nonetheless left a message that the male investigators could not read correctly and their wives could not mis-read. But coding may also be entirely deliberate, as it is when Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale answer the men's questions about Minnie Wright with double entendres that only they can understand. In both cases, however, the perception of coding and the construction of the (de)coded text by an audience depends on a conviction that coding has indeed taken place.
On the basis of complex features of the context itself, an audience may decide whether the coding seem intentional. In some sense, then, the "intentionality" of coded discourse can be said to reside in the text or product itself. The difference between conscious and unconscious coding may be crucial for understanding the implications in a particular act of coding, but it is not crucial for identifying the strategies which women encode feminist meanings in their texts. Any of the strategies we describe may be employed consciously or unconsciously.
Consider, for example, the sexual iconography that has been associated with the flow paintings of both Judy Chicago and Georgia O'Keeffe. Chicago's flowers are by explicit acknowledgment genital images; O'Keeffe vehemently denied the sexual content in her paintings. Yet many of Chicago's images are very like O'Keeffe's: the difference of intentionality yields no necessary difference in form"
The Feminist Voice: Strategies of Coding in Folklore and Literature Author(s): Joan N. Radner and Susan S. Lanser (1987)
Like it's easy to think that they're discussing coding as in what people do with what they're researching to operationalize it. But like that's not what they're talking about. And yeah you could make the argument that coding means more today and it means the intentional coding of things. But like idk that might be one persons definition but its def not the standard one being used. And I'm coming around to this definition because it's interesting.

1,2,3 for 87 Raph. 7 and 8 for any 03 turtle :)
ehehehehe
ehehehehehehehehehehe
okay here's 87 Raphael
1 Why do you like/dislike this character
Okay so when I first watched 1987 it was in the context of having seen 03 and rise and knowing a little about mirage because of this turtle documentary I had watched. So as soon as Raph came on screen and started snarking I was just.. it was just such an interesting take on one of my favorite turtles while also being a quintessential example of a character archetype that I enjoy for completely separate reasons. Raphael would be worth 10 seasons by himself if the rest of the show weren't great (which it is)
One of the first things that stuck in my head forever was when they had Baxter Stockman tied up asking him who he works for and Raph pulls out his sai and threatens to "get sarcastic," cue the light hitting the sharp point. Stockman immediately tells all and Raphael says with this charming grin directly to the fourth wall, "Nothing beats cutting wit"
and I was like ALSKDJRIWOWIB they they because Mirage Raph is the 'crazy one' who goes off by himself on wild adventures and always wants to help everyone 03 Raph is the 'angry one' who pushes back against Leo's decisions to keep them balanced rise Raph combined those by being the stressed older brother-- I would never have anticipated Witty Raph Sarcastic Raph Fourth Wall Breaker Raph but it makes so much sense this is the perfect missing link
And it was very fun to watch him develop more and more into his own Funny Man personality. I love how when he doesn't have a quip he's usually just watching. Probably because it's hard to write clever quips all the time akdjdhsj but being a quiet watcher until he isn't is such a Raph thing and yet in the way it's done in 87 it's so uniquely Raphael.
Also I think he's a great brother. He's so supportive of Leonardo. He goofs around with Michelangelo. He and Donatello are constantly ripping each other apart verbally and also would die for each other in a heartbeat and also would kill each other for the last slice of pizza. I like how it's really impossible to get an age order with them, and Raphael especially I feel milks being the youngest when he can and lets the other guys do the responsible things but also will Older Brother them if the opportunity presents itself
Like he will be goofing off during training all the time, and one day Splinter splits them up Leonardo and Donatello (taking it seriously) vs Michelangelo and Raphael (not taking it seriously) and I love him in this episode so much. It's the fact that he's always doing this but when pressed he has this angsty teenager answer like "it's not like this training is intense enough to prepare us for Shredder anyway." But split into teams, now he's invested, and that's very unfortunate for him because Michelangelo isn't alsjdhajs. So Raphael is trying to hold his own against Leo and Don while also trying to convince Michelangelo to put the hammock away and help him. It's a very good episode for an example of Raphael being Baby when he can but also not when he doesn't feel like it.
Plus there's something down-to-earth about Raphael compared to his bros. Maybe it's the dry humor. Maybe it's the way he actually wants to run away from danger instead of towards. But he just strikes me as so... idk how to describe it, but out of all the turtles in the multiverse 87 Raphael is Just Some Guy. I mean in the zaniest way possible but idk how else to describe it. I think he's neat
also also he threw a couch at Donatello, what's not to like?
2 Favorite canon thing about this character
He loves disguises! It's a hobby he got into because he felt like he needed a special thing to contribute to the team 😭 He's so silly I love him so much
3 Least favorite canon thing about this character
umm.. huh. uhhhhh
The fact that raphibians (raph x mona x genghis) isn't canon
(or is it 👀)
(just kidding it is not)
Aaand I'm answering for 03 Donny because he's my favorite
7 something fandom does that I like
I like how the fandom gives him lasting consequences from all the craziness he went through. Headaches and emotional trauma from the mind probe, blaming himself for Honeycutt's temporary death, Kirby's disappearance, his second mutation... and especially SAINW. I love when he is dismissive of his own pain only for it to bite back hard down the road.
8 something fandom does that I don't like
I'm pretty chill generally, and I haven't come across characterizations that I find horrible, certainly not consistently. I also feel like he's a very, i guess balanced? character and thus hard to mess up. Like if you make him a soft little guy who just wants everyone to get along, you are right he is like that. If you make him a crazy scientist who just wants to see how far he can go without much thought to the consequences, you are also right he is like that too. If you make him totally logical and out of touch with his feelings I am kissing your forehead I love you so much, if you make him deeply emotional and very aware of it and coaching others through their feelings I am also kissing you you are so right I love you.
Okay I thought of something, I don't like when he's shipped with April. It's generally pretty easy to avoid but I do come across it once in a while.

why i found the conclusion of this trilogy quite disappointing: a rant
this is of course just my personal opinion, if you enjoyed it i’m glad for you
spoilers below
i wrote "conclusion" and not "fear street 1666" because i actually really enjoyed the 1666 stuff, my problems lies with the fear street 1994 part 2 only. I enjoyed 1666 because it was engaging and scary, i enjoyed the main characters, so let's talk about them. Sarah was great, the bit where she was "they think i'm a witch so i'll be one" was so good, i was on board because i could understand her motivation. She wasn't free to be with the woman she loved, she was accused of witchcraft for it, lost her brother, her father too if you think about it, she was about to be hanged with her lover, tbh a pact with the devil for some good old well deserved venegance sounds good Now let's talk about the other main Solomon, a psycho for sure, but it actually made sense (lack of better words i'm sorry english is not my first language). What I mean is, he lost his wife and child, the woman he loves doesn't, i guess those are "good" reasons as to why he lost his marbles to think that making a pact with the devil was the right idea. Also he choose as the first victim the pastor? You mean a symbol of God who he probably tought had failed him, ence why he went and offered himself to the devil, maybe it was casual idk but it felt symbolic and deep. He made a good villain, he got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
But what we end up having in 1994 is just so lame? Nick Goode's motivations are so meh? He sacrifices people because  so he can be sheriff and his brother mayor, oh wow cool I know Sunnyvale ended up being this perfect place because of the curse, and the city, and the Goode's family prospered because of it, but it doesn't change the fact that the main villain is doing all of this so he could be sheriff? It's oversymplifying it, i know, but that's basically it, and it's boring Nick started being part of the curse in 1978, and he was quite obviously conflicted by it, what happened then? He suddenly started being okay with all the killings because he grew up? Uh... ok... Also why did he leave that note to Ziggy? They didn't speak for 16 years and he informs her about the curse happening again for what reason? Why Ziggy had alarms all over her house? I guess we will never know. Also about Ziggy, a rand in the rant: it was so damn stupid how they had her hesitate to help when shit was starting to go really bad, i don’t care that she ended up shooting Ruby and saving Josh but  i refuse to believe Ziggy Berman would suddenly stop figthing to end the curse and kill the man who she just learned was literally the reason why her life was miserable, the reason why her sister died, the one who had just tried to kill her???? Make it make sense. Honestly had they kept Nick like he was in 1987, conflicted but "having to do it anyway" it would have been so much better? Idk in 300 years no one in the Goode family thought about not killing people? What would have happened if one of the Goode's decided that he didn't want to do it? Would the curse revolt against the family? I just think there were so many way to explore this curse and how it worked but they ended up giving us the most basic, boring outcome ever. The whole Sarah Fier's legend going around the two towns was so much better then what we got??
To end on a good note i'll mention some of my favorite scenes from the movie, aka the ones that had me crying: when they found the children, it was chilling really (couldn't they let my berman's sisters be happy for once?) also Solomon being so scared seeing the consequences of what he did, so good? And ofc the hanging scene, honestly it was terrible in good way (or good in a terrible way?), Sarah's sacrifice had me in tears, and the burying too, there where many theories as to why her body wasn’t where it was supposed to be but this was so sweet :( 1666 just was a really nice movie overall, creepy, with a nice story and interesting characters, 1994 part 2 was just flat.

yo should i watch star trek? i've been thinking about watching it but there are so many shows and movies and it's verrry overwhelming.
star trek and ncis have both been in my list of shows to watch for a long time, but i never got around to actually watching them. watching u post about them makes me wanna binge watch them but it's SO overwhelming and idk where to start
Okay, first off, you should ABSOLUTELY watch Star Trek. It's GLORIOUS and absolutely bonkers and thoughtful at the same time. You should also definitely watch NCIS because for a show about murder, it is surprisingly comforting 😂
This post got VERY VERY long because I learned I have a LOT of thoughts about how to watch large amounts of television. Uh, sorry 😂I split it up into NCIS and Star Trek, and then....the Star Trek section is still really long. I hope it's not too much rambling, and that it is possibly helpful?? I feel really honored you asked me about this <3
NCIS
NCIS is pretty simple to binge - I just finished watching it for the first time. Pretty much, I'd run straight through NCIS (the original, not NCIS:LA or NCIS:NO) from season 1-13. A few caveats: I enjoyed s1-s2, but I have some friends who were bothered by a few episodes that were transphobic. I mean it's kind of expected, since the show started in 2003 and some of the characters weren't written as the most accepting people, at least at the start But that doesn't make it easier to watch. If you think that will bother you, I'd be happy to give you a list of episodes to watch/skip. :)
From season 3 onward, I'd really just watch in order (you can skip some of the more gruesome ones *glares at two specific season 3 episodes*). I wandered off sometime around season 13/14 but you can conceivably continue on to season 18 which just finished like a week ago, I think?
Oh, and then you can try the spin-offs. Neither have really been able to hold my attention but you might have better luck!
Star Trek
Okay this one is a lot less simple. Yes, there is SO much Star Trek and asking yourself to binge all of it is very very confusing because....this timeline is a good explanation.
Tumblr media
Yeah.
Sir, what?
So! There's no right way to binge Trek. I'd definitely start with a TV show. Yes, there are a lot of Star Trek movies and some of them are fabulous, but Star Trek was born on TV and the TV shows are still the bread and butter of the franchise.
There are maybe five good entry points for Star Trek. If you don't like the first one you try, try a different one, since they are similar but every entry in the franchise has a very different feel.
I'd say there are maybe five good entry points for Star Trek:
Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969) The classic, very first Star Trek. Kirk, Spock, McCoy. Absolutely ICONIC. Has a few fabulous, classic high-concept sci-fi episodes and a few absolutely HILARIOUS episodes. If you choose this one, be prepared for a show that's VERY 60s in color and style, thinly-veiled Vietnam War allegories, and a lot of William Shatner.
Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994) My personal favorite. Episodic, absolutely brilliant acting, and the RANGE! Literally has a cross-dressing Wild West romp one week and a deep, "machines develop a sense of self-preservation" plot the next. Some of the very best television ever made. The only problem with TNG is it starts reallllly slow. Most people don't really enjoy season 1, and it really doesn't get good until halfway thru season 2. So I'd recommend watching the pilot, then maybe skipping through a few s1 episodes as they strike your fancy. There are a few good ones but also many duds. The nice thing is it's entirely episodic so you can skip without worrying about losing the main thread of the story. After the pilot, I think the only season 1 episode that's crucial for plotty reasons is Skin of Evil (1x23)? Then starting with A Measure of a Man (2x09) I'd watch straight through. The rest of the series is EXCELLENT and quality is, on average, fairly high. (Okay, you can skip the last episode of s2 since it's a clip show. A writer's strike happened. XD) If you choose this route, be prepared for the slow start. And the VERY 80s sci-fi costumes. :)
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993-1999) I'm not a huge DS9 fan, but I really, really enjoy their comedic episodes. If season-long arcs and a more gritty, politick-y feel strikes your fancy, this is the show for you. Again, this one has brilliant acting (most Trek does tbh) and a LOT of range. DS9 is set during wartime, so it's definitely got a different feel. I like it but don't love it, but this show has changed the lives of a lot of people, I think, so it's definitely a good option. I think DS9 starts better than TNG, and this is definitely one you want to watch in order. Seasons 1-3 are a little more episodic and then the series-long war arc begins in earnest.
Star Trek: Voyager (1995-2001) I have an outsized love for Voyager entirely because of fandom. (J/C fandom has a very large overlap with Sam/Jack fandom!) The premise of Voyager is that it's a ragtag crew (half military officers, half rebel terrorists) trying to get home after being flung 70,000 light years from Earth (which will take roughly 70 years for them to traverse). This is the only show with a female captain and it is TERRIFIC. I'm just saying, if you watch this one, be prepared to ship the captain and the first officer. Because...you will. :) Overall quality of Voyager is, IMHO, not quite as high as TNG. It's again more episodic with some occasional multi-episode plot threads. But the two shows have equally strong captains, and Voyager is definitely a more scrappy ship than TNG's Enterprise. The characters change a LOT over seven seasons, so definitely watch Voyager in order. I think this show actually has one of the better pilot episodes of Star Trek, in a franchise full of notoriously poor pilot episodes.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017-) If you want a "modern" show - y'know, fancy effects and such - I'd roll with Discovery. But it's definitely a controversial entry in the franchise, and one of the less consistent ones, IMHO. But I really like the pilot, and also enjoyed season 2, so you could definitely start here if you're looking for something that's more recent and less, y'know, of whatever era it was made.
For people who love SG-1, I'd probably start with TNG or Voyager? I'm not sure. Discovery is a lot flashier but I think you'll probably enjoy the other four more, if you like SG-1. Totally a matter of personal taste, though.
I hope you got to the end of this, and honestly, if you want to get into either of these shows and are still confused, just message me? I will happily give advice :)
TL;DR
Just binge NCIS from episode 1 onward. If you are very sensitive to transphobia, message me and I'll tell you which season 1 eps to skip.
For Trek: If you love SG-1, I'd start with The Next Generation or Voyager. But honestly, you could start with The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, or Discovery, depending on what you like in your TV.
