when they had riley cheat on buffy because of his chauvinist hang-ups and then basically said oh it's actually buffy's fault for being closed off after the major pain she went through with angel and she should chase him down even though he had no right to give her an ultimatum in the first place. and then to act as if he's the best guy ever when he's a piece of walking cardboard. DEATH!

13. “I didn’t like you at first because I found you way too fucking attractive.” “That makes no sense.”

Summary: You and Eddie have a complicated relationship to say the least; one second you're all over each other, and the next you can't stand to be in the same room as each other. And all you want are answers.
Author's note: I'm aware I don't go here anymore but I'm tryna get my drafts/WIPs cleared so enjoy! The title comes from the Razorlight song of the same name. I'm so sorry this took forever but I hope it was worth the wait! I wrote the majority of this in about an hour so I apologise if it's bad.
CW: 18+, swearing, sex references, smoking, talks of drug use and dealing, drinking, drunk Eddie, Eddie's kind of an ass in this.

Any hate will not be tolerated, constructive criticism is welcomed.
From the moment Eddie Munson waltzed his way into your life, he had you wrapped around his finger. You’d fallen for him hook, line and sinker. The problem? He absolutely hated your presence. At least, you were sure he did. It felt like one moment, he was all over you and calling you his. Then the next, he avoided you like the plague and would laugh and sneer at you in the hallways.
It was infuriating to you.
All you wanted was to spend all your time with Eddie and actually get to the bottom of what his problem was. But anytime you tried, he was his dick self and would laugh you off. Then at any parties you’d attend, he’d pull you into a dark corner and completely rock your world with his mouth and fingers.
You just wanted answers, answers you knew you’d never get so you just accepted it. You had no choice but to accept it.
At one of the endless parties both of you attended, you spotted him across the room, trying to not be obvious that he was doing a deal with some drunk classmate, but you always knew what he was up to, you knew him like the back of your hand and sadly, he could say the same for you.
Taking a long drink of your punch, you plucked up the courage to go over to him, being careful not to bump into anyone on your way. “Bit early to deal, is it not, Munson?”
Eddie jumped at the sound of your voice, a hand going over his heart as the other almost dropped the roll of dollars he’d just been handed. “Jesus fuckin’ Christ, don’t creep up on me like that.”
You couldn’t help but bark out a laugh as you playfully hit his arm. “I didn’t realise you were that much of a scaredy cat.”
“Other than scaring me to death, was there anything you actually wanted?”
“I wanted to talk about us,” you answered, folding your arms over your chest.
Eddie looked at you as if you’d just spoken in Japanese to him, the cogs in his head slowly turning but he still had no real idea what you were getting at. “What do you mean “us”? There is no “us” to talk about. I’m not fuckin’ sober enough for this conversation.”
Then he stormed off, making a point to hit your shoulder with his arm as he left, the force almost knocking you to the floor. Rubbing your arm, you shrugged off the embarrassment you felt and muttered a “dick” before you stormed outside.
Walking around the various drunk couples making out or the various obviously high out of their minds partygoers, you found an empty spot and set up camp for the night. Setting your drink down in between your legs, you grabbed your pack of cigarettes from your pocket and lit one up.
You would’ve tried to socialise and potentially get blackout drunk like everyone else, but you just weren’t feeling it, and was even debating on going home after that encounter with Eddie. But you were stubborn and refused to let him win, you’d at least stay until you’d ran out of cigarettes.
Not even an hour later, a loud crash was heard inside followed by a loud holler of your name. Sighing heavily, you turned around to see Eddie grinning like the cat that ate the canary stumbling his way towards you, an armful of beers with him.
Sitting down next to you with a loud “oof”, he offered you a can before struggling to open yours. Sighing, you took it from him to open it before handing it back. “Why are you even here, Eddie?”
“What? Am I not allowed to see my girl whenever I want?” He grinned, nudging your arm with his elbow before taking a long drink of beer.
“I’m not your girl, Munson. You’ve made that extremely clear,” you grumbled, opening your can and pouring the contents into the cup. “If you’re here to talk about our non-existent “us”, I’m not in the mood for it.”
Even through his drunken state, Eddie could tell that you were upset and somewhere in his brain he knew it was his fault, that and nothing he said would make it up to you. But he wasn’t the type to even try to make it up to anyone.
Noticing his silence, you spoke up again. “You don’t even like me, romantically or otherwise so why are you even trying?”
Eddie shook his head, leaning into you almost to tell you a secret. “I didn’t like you at first because I found you way too fucking attractive.”
Now it was your turn to look like Eddie was speaking Japanese to you. Mostly because what he said made absolutely no sense. “That makes no fuckin’ sense.”
“Well, it makes sense to me, princess,” Eddie smiled, drinking more of his beer.
You rolled your eyes, shaking your head as you downed the contents of your cup. “You’re so fucking confusing, you know that? You literally drive me fucking insane.”
“It’s all part of the Munson charm, babydoll.”
Licking your lips, you shoved your cigarettes into your jacket pocket and stood up, moving to stand directly in front of him. “If you weren’t drunk off your head, I’d offer to go upstairs and make everyone hate us.”
Eddie’s eyes went wide as he frantically got to his feet, the sudden motion causing him to fall directly onto you, but thankfully you caught him just as he was about to crush you. “I can sober up, I swear.”
You laughed, shaking your head as you steadied him. “You’re such a dork, and it’s not happening tonight. Not in a million years, call me tomorrow night when you’re sober and then we’ll talk,” you patted his shoulder before making your way inside.
The next night, you were surprised by getting a call from the man himself; informing you that his trailer would be empty for the night and invited you over. Twirling the phone cord around your finger, a sly smirk came across your lips. “Come and get me,” you replied before hanging up.
You weren’t exactly going to play easy on him, not for a second.

reference for everyone: post being referred to read "i sleep so well knowing buffy and angel are canon soulmates."
sure! i can go into a into a lot of evidence as to why i think this, but i’ll just point out some of the key things that stand out to me. (fair warning, i can ramble about them for a long time so... apologies...)
first of all, i think it's important to establish what a soulmate is. i understand everyone may have their own perspective on what this means, but to me, a soulmate is a deep mutual love (romantic or platonic) and thus, an intense connection between two souls. soulmates understand and accept each other, help each other grow, support one another, and of course, love each other.
so using that as a reference, here is why i believe buffy and angel are soulmates, and how the shows canon supports that:
1] their lives mirror each other. even when they're apart, buffy and angel's stories continue to mirror and parallel one another. a great example of this is connor and dawn. both buffy and angel had these (different) roles of caregiver thrust onto them unexpectedly, but find themselves in these new roles they've been given. angel as a single dad, buffy as a sister and dawn's primary caregiver after joyce passes; both go through ups and downs in this journey, but the audience sees they wouldn't trade it for the world. then, they lose them through a portal, both fall to the ground instantly and shortly or immediately after fall into a catatonic state. this is not the only example of their lives mirroring each other, but i think it's one of the more profound, easy to see ones, that changes their lives and perspectives forever.
Tumblr media
(screenshot of a beautiful gifset by @charmedslayer)
2] the continual references to one another throughout the series. buffy and angel often reference how much their relationship meant to each other, post breakup, either through actual words or actions/subtle references. a very important buffy quote outlines this really well: “i loved him more than i will ever love anything in this life.” to me this shows this is a relationship more important than any other, one they cannot simply just "move on" from. it changed them fundamentally, and has stuck with them no matter what.
3] they help each other grow. without buffy, angel would have never gotten out of that alleyway. that is just fact. buffy gave angel a purpose. even when they are apart, even when she is dead, it is keeping that purpose she gave him alive that animates him. they both made each other stronger and better people. this is seen all throughout their relationship and beyond; from the little pep talks they give each other, the way they train and fight side by side, the way they give purpose to each others missions.
Tumblr media
screenshot of a gifset that shows this perfectly by @buffysummers
4] their emotional connection. whilst in a relationship, we see angel being buffy's emotional confidant on numerous occasions and vice versa. they give each other new perspective (also another example of how they help each other grow), like in 'ted' (btvs 2x11). angel is the only person in that episode to listen to buffy's complaints, acknowledge them, but then gently offer her a different perspective; maybe her mother is simply, lonely. even post breakup, in 'forever' (btvs 5x17), angel is the one person she fully confides in about her grief. they are able to be fully vulnerable with one another, both emotionally and physically. protecting each other in both ways and fighting many both physical and mental battles “shoulder to shoulder" even when they're apart.
5] they accept one another. 'what's my line' (2x9-10) shows this the best, as well as expands on how they can be fully vulnerable with each other. first emotionally - angel listens to and acknowledges buffy's frustrations about career week, and supports her through that (feelings that are dismissed by everyone else around her), encouraging her to talk about her feelings. then, in accepting both her 'slayer' and 'buffy' persona as one, asks her on an ice-skating date to learn more about the buffy he never knew, accepting even the parts of her people might disregard. then, we see buffy accept both aspects of angel; his vampiric and human side, when she kisses his vampire face and is one of the only people throughout the shows canon that accepts these two sides of angel, represented by his 'true' face. then physically - when buffy is worried about her safety she goes to angel's apartment, curls up in his bed, just a space that reminds her of him is enough to make her feel safer. and then angel is rescued by her at the end of the episode. she cradles him in her arms, and we see him clearly and physically relax in her embrace.
i fear i could go on, and on, and then on a little more. but that's just a little taste of my perspective on why i believe the canon supports the idea that buffy and angel are soulmates. …let alone all the shared dreams, countless parallels (even more meta ones like how their theme songs reflect each other) and then the love they have for each other which is stated time and time again.

you mention a spuffy fic about people being cursed to hunger for demon flesh. About prey/predator dynamics spuffy. I tried to find it but I can’t find it. Do you remember which fic that is? Sounds cool :) (my spuffy blog is formyspuffyobsession)
A Matter of Taste by Twinkles! It's on Elysian Fields, and it's one of my all-time favorite Spuffy fics. There are few fics out there that exactly match my tastes when it comes to consumption and predator/prey dynamics in couples. Especially when it's het ships, and people are usually so obsessed with gendered power dynamics.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what are your thoughts on angel x buffy? :)
Hii i don't mind, thank you for asking 😊
So, I used to love bangel sooooo much when i first watched the show. I was 100% into it, (with a crush for Boreanaz too) and i cried so much for them in s2 and when Angel left the show in s3. And I truly, sincerely, unironically hated Spike too (I thought he was a great character but i just loved hating him, you know? Lol). When we saw Spike's dream of kissing Buffy I swear i felt nauseous.
... and then they aired Fool for love.
By the end of that episode I was left in utter existential crisis in front of my tv because i felt my whole world shift. There was a part of me that still liked Angel and Buffy, but there was also this new part that wanted her to be with Spike now.
So anyway, that's when i decided to switch teams and i became team spuffy, and for as much as i had been obsessed with bangel before, it was nothing compared to how deep i was caught into the Buffy and Spike relationship. I never looked back. They were just much more complex and real and compelling. And it made me reevaluate Angel and her relationship with him too. Angel never really knew Buffy, always treated her like a child, and let's be honest--and that's something that hit me only years later when I got older--she was a child when they were together. He was spying on her and falling in love with her when she was just fifteen years old and he was a 240-year-old vampire who had been sired at like 26 years old, and they got together when she was 16/17 and he broke up with her when she turned 18... I don't think that's something the writers did intentionally of course, because (as everything else in buffy) it's just meant to be taken as a metaphor for the ideals and struggles and the intensity of drama of a girl's first love, but it still comes off as icky.
And before anyone comes at me, I know spuffy isn't healthy either, but that's kinda the point and the appeal. First of all, it's fiction and a metaphor, and secondly, it's about two broken people that are supposed to be mortal enemies but are actually two sides of the same coin, so different and yet so much the same, who can understand each other as a whole, light and darkness, in a way that no one else ever could, who yes, hurt each other along the way, but whose love saved them from the deepest darkness, ultimately bringing them into the light.
This is what spuffy is to me, and this is why i think it's not only the superior ship, but one of the best ships of all time (thee best, until i saw destiel, now they're sharing the podium).
So anyway, to get back to your question, the moment i became obsessed with Buffy and Spike (and i have been ever since 2005, lmao, they've been my first real obsession, alongside btvs, until spn and destiel) Angel sort of became the enemy 😅. And I hated him so so so so so much when he appeared in 7x21 and kissed Buffy (pure fanservice, but okay) and brought the medallion that ultimately killed Spike. So i spent years very maturely holding my vendetta against Angel (like, rooting for every demon that fought against him when I watched Angel, lmaoo). In most recent years, I've (sort of) made my peace with the character, after rewatching Angel. I mean he's still the enemy (of course, duh!! Who am i if not eternally petty??) but i appreciate him in his own show.
So i don't ship Angel and Buffy anymore, but I can understand why someone would (as i myself used to), and more importantly, i respect other people's right to ship them.
If we're joking, I'm going to insult Angel and keep saying he's the enemy. But on a mature serious note, I think Buffy and Angel were a great first love (for Buffy), but they were supposed to be just that, the impossible teenage girl's dream of a first love, eternal but doomed to end and break your heart.
I think Angel was much more well paired with Cordelia (which is something I'd never think I'd say), and i found myself shipping them so much when I rewatched the show. It felt so much more mature and profound than what we saw with Buffy and Angel (and that's probably due to the fact that we got slow burn for them - as we did for Buffy and Spike- and could actually see the feelings growing, while Buffy crushed on Angel in the pilot and she was madly in love (as teenagers do) in 0.5 seconds for no apparent reason than the fact that he was hot and mysterious.
So when I say the kiss in btvs 7x21 makes zero sense, I'm not just talking about spuffy, but also about cangel. I feel like both characters parted ways and lived on in their own shows to grow and become their own persons, developing other relationships that were more adult and meaningful, and that kiss was just disrespectful for both (but anyways, it doesn't change anything).
I have so many thoughts about all this honestly, and I hope I haven't gone too much off the tangent with my reply, but i couldn't just give you a simple reply because that would've had to be something like "angel is the enemy and i don't like bangel" but as you can see my thoughts are a little more complex than that 😅

Saw your post about the SA only making Spike the focus, and I agree. What do you think of the argument that it *was* about Buffy because it was about how she could forgive and inspire people to better themselves, and in the end Buffy saved the world by saving Spike and allowing him to be a Champion? And that it totally made sense for Buffy because she was compassionate (forgave Willow for trying to end the world) and acted the same towards Angel in S3, separated him from his soulless self and took care of him?
The only episode that compares in focusing on Angel and his psyche is Amends, as opposed to every other interaction between Spike and Buffy in Season Seven.
Hi, sorry this took so long.
So tbh, this is one of the first times I'm seeing this argument because it's just not common in the buffy circles I'm in. I'm actually a bit shocked that it is even an argument that exists and that is being used in some kind of attempt at justifying or even defending the terrible way the show handled the abuse buffy suffered.
I'm aware that much of the show's idea of what it means to be a hero lies in the idea of perservering despite everything, taking the punches life throws at you and continuing despite it all. Being kind and compassionate through it all because that's the hero's responsiblity, etc. But I don't think you can make that argument when it comes to gendered abuse, especially for a show that calls itself "feminist". It's frankly the opposite of that, it's offensive and misogynistic to the core.
Women are already educated since birth to prioritize other people's needs and comfort, especially men's, over their own. They're made to swallow their pain, their suffering for the comfort of the others, to not "disturb the peace" of their environment, to not make things uncomfortable, to not be "selfish". That is a huge component of patriarchy, whether that is about being a good mother and a good wife or to more extreme cases like being silent about your own abuse. And when women do talk about their abuse, that's usually accompanied by the overanalyzing of their every action and victim blaming; they did something to "earn" getting abused. You know, like Buffy in S6.
So no, I don't think buffy "forgiving" her would-be rapist simply because he's got a soul now is a good storytelling point by any mark. And that's made even worse by the fact she can't really forgive him because the show didn't want to acknowledge it again.
Faith, Angel and Willow, for instance, all had their wrongdoings acknowledged in the text to some extend: Faith went to prison, Willow goes to England and is afraid to use her powers again and Angel is isolated from the rest of the scoobies and at one point even tries to kill himself. Spike gets a soul in an ambiguous way where he makes it seem like he's going to use it to "punish" buffy for rejecting him and then goes back to sunnydale where buffy procedes to protect and take care of him after learning he's got a soul "for her", something that she keeps doing even after he proves himself a danger to her friends and family, even after he starts killing again. So I don't think her "forgiving" him is really comparable to the other instances in the show even if we might think some of them "got off easily" too.
(I think you can only make that argument for Willow, but to me what is different about her is that Willow was not a demon -- she's a human being and that separates her from the other villains. Even though she's killed someone, buffy's not a cop, it's not her job to bring "justice" in that sense, so I think her reaction is understandable).
I'm not really sure I'd say buffy completely separates angel and angelus, she always calls him "angel" even when he's soulless. I think her reaction in Amends is mainly about stopping him from killing himself and I believe she'd do that for anyone. She obviously still loves him and has conflicted feelings about what happened but I never get the impression that what he did to her is being swept under a rug -- they both very much acknowledge the damage that he's caused and how much he hurt her. And again, angel suffers the consequences of that by being isolated from the group, things are never really the same for them after S2, even though they try to lead a somewhat normal relationship after a lot of resistence. It's different from spike and buffy where their "relationship" literally blossoms from the abuse or better yet from pretending the abuse didn't happen.
I wouldn't be opposed to Buffy forgiving spike if that was actually an arc in the show but it wasn't. You can't have an arc about forgiveness when you can't even talk about what happened, when you can't even admit there was someone who was clearly in the wrong, someone who took advantage of the other person and hurt them the most, instead of vague allusions and conversations about "mutual abuse" (if you subscribe to the idea of mutual abuse, you're admitting Buffy did something to earn it). Amends was very explicit -- it was about the importance of keeping fighting and striving to do good even when you think of yourself as a lost cause because of the bad things you did. Your past doesn't define you, you can always choose to do better, to be better.

Cate what is the deets on Angel why do I want to cringe and cry. What’s the deal
magsy I wish I knew!!!! what I DO know is that Angel is not an outlier - he's very typical of the "first love" in a lot of teen vampire media. the looming in the background, the emotional constipation, the dark past that's SO dark it's basically a split personality that has to be kept in check: all of that describes Edward from Twilight and Stefan from TVD just as much as it describes Angel. and something about this character type is supposed to appeal to teen girls. the presumption here does seem to be a kind of parallel between monstrousness and masculinity, specifically, where men are terrifying but also somehow fascinating, and eventually girls will find a "good" one who has his true, monstrous nature locked the fuck down, and that makes him safe. this makes you and me squirm because we don't think any human beings have completely monstrous natures, let alone an entire gender. we think the wounds of sin don't destroy all the way down to the core, and we think those wounds can be healed in a holistic way that isn't just repression.
this is why we have to thank God every day for Scott McCall, the supernatural good-guy hero who is genuinely a good guy.
