buttonverse Leo and Raph because
Like the thing for the brothers throughout the plot will be how they are always out of place. They grew up knowing the human world wasn't safe for them, but when they discover the Hidden City they kinda get their hopes up
And the thing is, mutants are already sort of an out group even in the Hidden City, and the boys are an out group even among mutants because of their button shells.
And Leo? He feels the most like the outcast of the outcasts. He dislikes his shell very much, and it affects him physically more than any of his brothers. Part of why he's so obsessed with reconnecting with family is because of how totally alone he feels
Raph doesn't really know about or understand Leo's insecurities. What he sees is that his brother always has a plan, always has a dream, always sees the best in the rest of their family. Raph is the one who sees a leader in him first and that saves Leo in ways he'll never know.
In buttonverse Raph starts out the most confident of the brothers. His attitude is, here I am and if someone doesn't like it that's their problem. He has that idea about his whole family. (Still definitely insecure, kind of a bayverse deal where he sees so much in them and feels unworthy, but compared to the rest of his family he has a fairly positive concept of self)
And it really really shakes him when his brothers start venturing out more and spending time with chosen friends instead of each other. He's always felt secure in family relationships and suddenly he (feels like he) has cause to wonder if they'd rather be hanging out with anyone but him. And layered on top of that, humans (and all kinds of other groups) aren't as accepting as he had always assumed anyone who met his brothers would be. He wants them close so he can protect them, and he kind of hates that he wants that because he thinks it makes him seem weak, he knows because of what else is going on with him that it also comes across like 'you're not supposed to have other friends outside of family.' Which is also a fight him and Mikey have had before because Mikey was always so eager to meet literally anyone as a kid
(Who he does trust is Venus and friends of Venus, but for various reasons his brothers either don't trust her or just don't feel they can connect with her and that annoys him which also plays into this)
I forgot where I was going with this
anyways very close very best friends, very hurt when things go down and they find themselves pulling different directions

i love how out of all the main tmnt cartoons, the only show that gets a glimpse into the future and it’s genuinely a good future is 87.
like they’re old and kooky but they’re happy and they’re together and april’s still doing the thing she loves and they don’t worry about danger anymore
it’s genuinely so sweet to me

Raph: Do your worst!
Mikey: I'll cry.
Raph: ...what?
Mikey: You heard me. I'll start bawling like a toddler that dropped his ice cream on the sidewalk. In front of your friends, our family, your girlfriend, and I'll tell them it's because YOU won't be my friend.
Raph: You wouldn't!
Mikey: I think I might be misting up already.

Donnie: I'm a little concerned about safety here.
Casey: Pff! Were the astronauts concerned about safety when they flew to the moon?
Donnie: Presumably, yes.

April: Look, I came to you because of all my friends, you’re the most evil and conniving.
Karai: Ooh, flattery. I’ll give you an extra 20 seconds.

Now that I'm older and a little more experienced in fiber crafts and textile work, I don't think we give Rarity enough credit. She made custom tailored boutique-grade formal wear for five of her friends, showed she knew their interests and personalities well enough to work them into the outfits, and gave it to them for free, and all of them had the gall to say "well it could be better". And she didn't even think about burning their houses down.

I drew this because she's distinctly human and nobody at church would know it was from tmnt if they happened to see it. B)
Also, I can't help but think: if you're psychic and you live in a house full of completely traumatized teenagers it must be hard to get a full night's rest with five other sets of nightmares helping out your own.

A short collection of some of my first animatic experiments.
These were from the 'character incubation' stage when I was still figuring out their personalities. I need to post about my children more often.

Okay, Imma talk incohernetly about 2012 Raph because I have feelings.
So, this train of thought started when I noticed that he always sits farthest away from the TV. Mikey and Leo are practically nosing the screen and Donnie sits close as well when he's actually there, but Raph is usually a solid 15 feet away at least. At first I thought it was because he just didn't care for television; he was usually reading a comic after all.
But then I was watching him more carefully, and I don't think that's entierly it. See, he doesn't seem to like being surprised by things. When Mikey walked in with his *imaginateive* pizza he screamed. Actuall involuntary yell of distress there. When the Shell Raizer crashed around the corner that one time Donnie rescued them all he leapt the highest and stayed crouched down long after all the others were calm and talking.
As someone who watches movies with my dad on occasion I can relate to subconciously scooting away from the screen. The volume is fine enough for the talking scenes, BUT IT COULD CHANGE SCENES AT ANY MOMENT AND BE WAY TOO LOUD OR THE LOUD MUSIC COULD START OR SOMETHING HORRIFYING COULD JUMP UP ON SCREEN AND IT WOULD BE LOUD!! I don't think he dislikes loud noises (he yells and plays the drums after all). I think he dislikes surprises, and sudden movements, and noises he can't predict or controll. As long as he's expecting it he's fine, but as soon as something surprises him he's easily the most high strung of the brothers. Whether his reaction be to stab it, or shriek, or both.
And if you're touching elbows with your brothers they'll feel it when you jump at that scene change.
Am I making sense? I had more scenes in my head where he was doing stuff like this, but I can't remember them now.
