The Witching Hour: Part 1

[ Part 2 ]

Originally part of the Calaveras, Elias Navarez saw 8 year old Evelia Torres about to die in a witch burning. He killed everyone who was part of it and then adopted her, defecting from the Calaveras and started his own hunting organization. Originally just Calaveras defectors, the group grows to include other hunters, supernatural creatures, and even some ordinary humans, and the group grows into a family.

Aven Yukimura [ Ryan Potter ] – 15/~70, unknown species. Noshiko’s son with Corporal Rhys, died at Eichen House when the Nogitsune first attacked. Has been stuck in Eichen House as a spirit until he's accidentally revived by Evelia

Beckett “Beck” Faulkner [ Alan Ritchson ] – 24; hunter, newest deputy at the Beacon Hills Sheriff Department, much older Faulkner brother, left home at 16 but when their parents are killed by the Alpha, he adopts his younger siblings

One of the two last survivors of a vampire coven that was slaughtered by hunters and now they’re in Beacon Hills, they chose it because there was no supernatural life left there so they’d be safe, but only a month or two after they moved, everything started up and now they’re the first suspects for killing Laura

Changes to the Popular Pairing List

Over nearly 9 years of Femslash Revolution, we have watched the popularity of many, many pairings rise and fall again. In order to better reflect this, we have decided to switch how we define our popular pairing list, which determines which pairings are too popular to be posted on Rarepair Thursdays.

Previously, posts were added to the list when they had appeared on the blog over 20 times across its whole duration. Under the new system, we will look at the number of appearances in the 10,000 most recent posts, which reflects approximately the last 18 months of content. Any pairing with more than 10 posts in that time span will be added to the list, while older pairings which no longer receive so many posts will be removed.

This was all thanks to @argent-aviis, who started all of this! She also gave me suggestions on what each squad would focus on or provide for this competition! I may have to change a few things in the past few modern au posts to fit into this developing idea!

The clover star awards competition is very similar to the wizard king stars! In this competition, each squad receives a star through their accomplishments or service to the community in their respected field. This competition is created for students of Clover academy to participate in as a requirement to graduate from the academy. Since the students in the academy are already accepted as the best of the best, it is up to the students to pick which program or business they’d like to participate in until graduation. Stars are given if the squad provided service to the community, gather a lot of funds from their work/events, showcases knowledge and skills developed within the squad, and/or did anything that would bring pride to the Clover academy name.

Each squad has their own program and/or business to offer.

Golden Dawns: Performing Arts Program

Lead by William Vengeance

Using the money gathered from their live performances to donate to charity.

Has a partnership with the Eye of the Midnight Sun (EOTMS) and performs for their charity events.

Has a history of placing 1st place in the clover star awards competition, having the best reputation out of all the squads.

Specializes in drama, music, and dance.

Black Bulls: Black Bull’s Cafe

Lead by Yami Sukehiro

Initially had the worst reputation out of all the squads and so students don’t pick this squad

Members are usually hand-picked by Yami due to this squad’s unpopularity

Claim to not specialize in anything particular

Silver Eagles: Business and Modeling Program

Lead by Nozel Silva

Has two programs to offer.

Has a Business Program to teach students the world of business and marketing and a Modeling Program where students are taught to be models.

Associated with Nozel’s modeling agency.

Has various internships that students can take advantage of.

Model students have the opportunity to appear in fashion shows or magazines.

Specialized in business, marketing, management, and modeling.

Crimson Lions: Fitness Center and Athletic Program

Lead by Fuegoleon Vermillion

Students can work at his fitness centers or get educated on body health or coaching.

Provides support towards Clover academy’s sport teams.

Specialized in sports, health, kinesiology, coaching, and exercise physiology.

Has the largest female student body count out of all the programs.

Previously lead by Gueldre Poizot, but currently lead by Kaiser Granvorka

A program to teach students all things related to economics and how society works.

When Gueldre led this squad, students were used to help support his corrupted economic firm until he finally got caught.

Kaiser was placed as the new leader in hopes of helping students who were interested in this field to get the education and support they need to get ahead.

Specializes in economics, accounting, finance, data and investment analyst.

Green Mantis: Mantis Food Truck and Community Service

Lead by Jack Ripper

Students are made to work at food trucks or go do various small tasks such cutting grass, pest control, errands, cleaning buildings, picking up trash, and etc.

Focuses a lot on community service and volunteering.

Rivals against Black Bull’s cafe.

The second least chosen squad at Clover academy.

Specializes in community service and culinary.

Azure Deers: Art Program

Lead by Rill Boismortier

This program teaches students various mediums of art.

Student’s final projects are presented at Rill’s Art Museum of Youths where students can show off their creations to the public.

Art that is displayed at the museum can be donated to charity.

Has connections with various art and animation studios.

Specializes in art, design, and animation.

Acier, Argent and Adeline are all magic knights. Acier is the Vice Captain of the Green Praying Mantises and Argent and Adeline are both in the Silver Eagles. Adrius likes to explore so he’s usually not in Clover. In present time he’s in Spade. Acier is angry at her brother for always being absent, while Argent greatly admires their older brother. Adeline wants to be closer to Adrius, and is jealous that Faith Swing seems to be closer to him. Regardless, they all miss him.

Felicity Vermillion(eldest) and Calix Vermillion(youngest)

Felicity "Felix" and Calix were adopted by Fuegoleon Vermillion and Bridget Oriel when their hometown, Ylve Village, burned down. Calix’s upper face was completely burned in the fire. In the future, Felix dyed her hair to look more like her parents. Felicity has Catalyst Magic and Calix had Wind Magic

Given the discourse regarding age gaps being toxic in its entirety (which I do not agree with), what made you choose that specific quote? okay so i didn’t really choose the quote first, originally i was just gonna do gif manips of which ships of mine have age gaps, but i realized two of them are established to be quite toxic (negan x mattie, jude x peter) while the other two has dynamics where one person does not want to love the other (kady x jack, amanda x russ)

so then i went to find a quote and that one pretty much stuck, but for the purpose of the edit i had to find/make another ship, which is how we now have birdie x erik!! (birdie is a variant of betty whose love interest is pietro so originally i paired birdie with peter, but idk i kinda like the idea of her and erik whsjakdj)

and then it hit me; we’ve established that age gap relationships can be (and are) healthy, but not how they can be toxic without their ages having a role in the matter, and i just think that it’s just as important!!

like so: jude and peter are toxic because peter hale is a bad person who has murdered a lot of people and betrayed the pack many times, yet jude still finds herself attracted to him and tends to defend him from her friends and family. when they get together, jude started having this mentality that peter needs her, and that she needs him, which we all know does not end well. things get worse when jude goes evil, which is a whole nother thing we won’t get into rn (also in case u wondered, jude is at least 25 when she got together with peter!)

i’m not entirely sure how negan and mattie are toxic exactly because i really haven’t seen negan in action yet, but from what i’ve seen through gifs and other people’s works, having a relationship with him is bound to be toxic, and i’d really like to explore that!

kady x jack and russ x amanda aren’t entirely toxic, but the idea is there!

russ taylor has questionable morals, which has something to do with his messy breakup with amanda. even then, she loved him so much, and when they crossed paths and he’s supposedly saving the world, she finds him pretty hard to resist. she knew better though; although he’s changed somehow, it wasn’t his morals and/or beliefs. but she stays with him anyway, and they pretty much fight a lot and are on and off

kady has done a lot of bad shit and once jack is made aware of this, he refuses to believe that that’s all she is and continues to try and prove that she’s still a good person, which kady really doesn’t believe in. jack mostly goes “see?! murderous psychopaths don’t do that!!!” over and over again, which kady really hates. she doesn’t see herself as a good person and doesn’t think she ever will, and jack forcing his point of view on her is just really annoying the shit out of her, which is where the mild toxicity comes in. this is why she doesn’t want to be with him or to fall in love with him, but jack is such a good fucking person and a total lovable dork that she ends up doing so anyway

in terms of birdie and erik, i’m not quite sure yet, but it has something to do with erik’s different way of doing things but her still staying with him all throughout

Hades Blood Code Study- Gregorio Silva

Introduction to Blood Codes and Silva

Blood Codes are the abilities imbued within a Revenant's Blood. Each Blood Code is unique to each Revenant that resides within the Gaol of the Mist. Once a Revenant has awakened from their slumber after the BOR parasite has been placed in them, the blood takes on a Code which I believe derives from the characteristics of that Revenant.

We see Silva in the Player's Memories, leading the Revenants into battle from Operation Queenslayer. From the knowledge he knows, he could be a First Generation Revenant. Like Mido, he's also aware of the Horrors and the terror they brought after the Great Collapse. From our perspective, he has a very twisted way of protecting Revenants and the people beyond the Red Mist.

Greek Mythology

Silva's Blood Code is based on the Greek God Hades.

After the Olympians were victorious in the war of Titanomachy: Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades cast lots to determine who would rule which domain of the world. Hades received the Underworld.

Hades barely leaves his realm of the underworld. The only time he did was when he was smitten by the goddess Persephone. Seeing how she was hard to get, Hades thought up a plan by causing a gorgeous flower to bloom in front of her when she was picking flowers with her maidens. When Persephone reached for the flower, the ground opened beneath her and swallowed her into the Underworld, where she was greeted by Hades.

Persephone's mother Demeter became frantic of her daughter's whereabouts. Without Persephone's presence in the human realm, the world became barren, people were going through famines and dying after a year passed. As Persephone is the goddess of Fertility, with her trapped in the underworld means that humanity is in danger of extinction.

Demeter was finally told what happened to her daughter after nine days of worrying. Enraged, she left Olympus due to injustice. All the Gods begged her to come back and were willing to give everything and anything but all she wanted was her daughter back.

In the end, Zeus sent Hermes to retrieve Persephone. Hades agreed to give Persephone to Demeter, but on the condition that she eats a pomegranate seed before leaving the underworld. Since she ate the seed, she was forever tied to the Underworld. In the aftermath, Persephone is able to go back to the Underworld but only for one-third of the year and then she spends two-thirds of the rest of the year with her mother. This is how the seasons came to be.

Similarities between Silva and Hades

Hades is the Greek God of the dead, he rules over the Underworld where all the dead human souls lie. The same goes for Silva, he rests on the throne with the Relic of the Brain in his possession. He utilizes the Relic to create his own realm of the undead, which are the Revenants. No one can leave the Red Mist and no one can enter.

Karen holds the Blood Code of Demeter and Demeter is Hades' sister in Greek Mythology. We don't see them interact, however, based on the Greek lore, I can imagine they get along for professional appearances only or they don't get along. Recalling Gustav's and Dominic's reports on Silva, those attributing facts they had could also make Karen view him with slight disdain. Especially during the Player’s memories. She was adamant about finding her own way to resolve the issue. Karen’s approach to her research mirrors Sophie’s, when she was trying to learn more about the Successors.

While the two haven't interacted with each other, Davis and Silva do have a connection. Davis who holds the blood code of Hermes works under Silva's provisional Government. He takes commands from Silva. Hermes is also the Greek God that delivers humans souls to Hades in his underworld. Just like in the Greek lore, Davis and Silva's relationship would be purely professional.

This refers to the part of Greek Lore where Hades remains solely on his own in the Underworld. The Gaol of the Mists is akin to Hades Underworld where he rules over the realm of the dead. Silva sacrificed himself to maintain the Red Mist and he rules over the Vein. Hades rarely leaves the realm (until he fell for Persephone) but Silva doesn't have the luxury of leaving his throne.

Everything that's in the Underworld must remain in the underworld. If someone eats the fruit from the underworld, they will be bounded to the realm for eternity. Just like Persephone ate the pomegranate seed.

The seed, in this case, is the BOR parasites. Once a BOR parasite is placed in the heart of a corpse, they end up reviving as a Revenant. Then the Revenant is forever trapped within the cycle of death, frenzying, thirst, turning into the lost and they can never leave the Gaol of the Mist. Silva was the one who suggested that they start creating immortal soldiers to fight back against the Queen. It's similar to how Hades trapped Persephone but instead, imagine it as Hades trapping human souls in his realm forever with no escape.

The flower that Hades bloomed in front of Persephone could also relate to the mistles in the game. When approaching the mistle, it cleanses the miasma for Revenants. It also aids in healing, reviving from dispersal and many other things. All Revenants are attracted to the flower looking mistle just like Persephone was amazed at the flower Hades bloomed for her. While in Operation Queenslayer, Silva was the one who urged for Revenants to be born to help slay the Queen so you can say Revenants are mesmerized by mistles in general because of his decision to turning them all into Revenants.

Both Hades and Silva don't want to let the human souls/revenants escape their realm for several reasons. Once a human soul has passed on, they can't return to the surface. The human soul maintains its former form when the soul left their body, and they continue to behave the same way they did in life without physically or mentally changing in the underworld. The Revenants are the same in the sense that after they become one, they still try to live their lives the same way except for the additional fact of intaking blood every once in a while. Revenants can no longer grow. Appearances could be changed (but those special cases would be Revenants like Jack, who took on the Relic of the eye) but not to the extreme where the Revenant is completely unrecognizable.

Revenants are trapped to protect humanity from them, but they are also protected from the horrors because of the Red Mist. Hades protect human souls as well since they are unable to return to the living. The concept of time doesn't apply to either Hades nor Silva and everyone else in the Underworld/Gaol of the Mist.

Hades’ Gifts

Regenerative Drain-Causes Drain attacks to restore HP. Survival Instinct-Boosts gift abilities, weapon & drain attack power when your HP is below a certain amount.

Since Hades is meant to thrive in the underworld, these two gifts could be synonymous with Hades' innate powers while ruling the underworld. As a god, he isn't meant to die and with his survival instinct, it's more of him bearing the responsibility of the underworld after his other brothers took responsibility for their realms. - Argent Wolf Cross-Fires a cross-shaped blade of blood at the target.

The subject of "wolf" could relate to Cerberus, the guardian of the underworld.  With its ferocious three heads, they could easily attack anyone who trespasses. The attack is probably a homage to the mythical creature that resides with Hades in the underworld. - Execution-Creates a giant sword that falls like a guillotine upon the enemy.

While Hades wasn't a judge of the dead souls in the underworld, he did supervise the trials of them. The real judges would be Minos, Rhadamanthus, and Aeacus. Since Hades already rules the realm of the dead, the guillotine attack must be a representation of it.

Concluding Thoughts

Silva is downright terrifying.

You see him being portrayed in a very mixed light. On one hand, he's seen as the savior for the Revenants in the Vein but dark things are going on behind the scenes. I was just simply refreshing myself on Hades' lore since I knew I was coming around to this post. The more I read all of the little hints and his role in the story, the more I see how scary Silva really is for perfectly playing the same role as Hades.
