foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog when our doctors tell us to "just drink more water" ouuuuu motherfucker if only it was THAT easy.
our arfid makes us hate water. we gag, choke, & can even feel nauseous after drinking it. its fucking disgusting, the taste & the texture are revolting, i genuinely dont get why people LIKE water [ its worse after putting in flavoring . i promise ] . people get mad at us when we express it, so we generally dont say anything to friends & family.
we rarely have a couple sips in the morning or late at night if we feel particularly thirsty, & we have to take minimum one sip every day to take our levothyroxine [ pill ] before breakfast. this is pretty much all the water we drink. sometimes we get in a water mood and drink a lot of it for a few days before returning to the one-sip-per-morning routine, this is usually once every 1-2 months.
our doctor says to drink more water & eat healthier, itll help our POTS symptoms. we say "no, thats not possible. we physically have an inability to do that. we will vomit" , they say "well, exercise helps too" , we say "we can't exercise. we get too dizzy & nauseous & trigger migraines if we so much as go up and down the stairs too much in a day" , they say "well, you should eat healthier and drink more water" . THE CYCLE NEVER ENDS. EVERY SINGLE VISIT ITS THE SAME GODDAMN THING. THERE IS NO HOPE
i dont like to think that we're untreatable. but i guess we are?? itd be nice just to have a little injection of water through a needle or something every day or two . its funny that we are not afraid of needles , just food & drinks :3!!!

Differentiating between “bad” picky eaters and people with ARFID is just… incredibly dumb. Mind your own business, your “but it’s okay if you have a disability/sensory issues!!1!” means jack shit when you’re acting like food issues are a moral failing. Stop hating on “picky eaters” or stop pretending to care about disabled people.

If I have to read one more "I hate picky eaters, they have the taste palette of a 5-year-old" post, I WILL actually start killing people. You don't want to be around "picky eaters?" Fine, then get the fuck away from us. We're better off without your judgment.
"But wahhhh why won't they just try something new" Shut. Up. Look up how things like adhd, autism, depression, and many more affect eating. Look up food allergies, intolerances, and general sensitivities. FUCKING LOOK UP ARFID. Seriously I am so damn tired of people not knowing shit about arfid, refusing to research even when I tell them about it (most of my doctors don't even know anything about it even though they've known about my struggles for over two years!) And then you have the nerve to shame us for dealing with an eating disorder that is fuck all hard to work through cuz, again, no one knows fucking shit about it and they don't want to learn! My therapist reached out to an eating disorder clinic to find help for me, and the only goddamn one who even knew it existed was the director.
Stay the hell away from so-called "picky eaters" if you're gonna make post after post complaining about how annoying you find us, or how you just so badly want to go to restaurants with your friend but they eat like a child! Go alone, asshole.

Calling all autistics and ARFIDs of tumblr!!
I've seen multiple memes and even made jokes myself about how potatoes are the always reliable safe food for autistics, especially those with ARFID or other eating troubles.
This post is inclusive of self-diagnosed autistics and ARFID

Another Christmas survived as an ARFID sufferer. This one was... sub-ideal. But I'm currently hiding in my room with Pringles, so it's gonna be okay.
I'm just so sick of the way my family are about food. We have so many (SO many) snacks that all of them can eat but, no, suddenly everyone is RAVENOUS for my single box of apple pies. I had a box of my safe cake bars (which weren't even supposed to be for today)- they are now all gone. Did I get even one? Did I fuck.
My (adult btw) sister whining because I won't share with/give to her my one packet of frickin microwaveable egg-fried rice for dinner was what almost broke me. I had a few pigs in blankets and a bit of mash for lunch and a couple of crisps in the afternoon. Yes I am selfishly going to heat some rice up for me and me alone. I'm so sorry that that affects you. You may find solace in idk ANY OF THE OTHER FOODS CURRENTLY IN THIS HOUSE.
I suppose it's partly got to do with how much I like living alone. Nobody steals my food. My safe foods are always there when I go back to them. Yes, I had to hide the Pringles I'm currently lurking in my room with, despite the fact that I bought them, because heaven forbid any other flavour be so much as opened before my safe flavour are all gone. I'm so sick of it, honestly.
Sorry. Rant over.
I was going to post something last night as well about the frustration of being an ARFID sufferer in a restaurant and only having literally one menu option (that I don't actually like; it was just the only option I could physically tolerate), but this blog isn't supposed to be that whiny so I didn't. I'm just so done today.

Decided to be adventurous and buy the ingredients to make a chicken noodle rice mushroom soup thing tonight. The ingredients include a whole ass bay leaf. Big steps in the "throw shit in a pot" eating disorder exposure therapy method.

I was watching a video yesterday, and in it was a clip where a guy was like, "The other day, I made a video making fun of picky eaters, and I got a bunch of comments going "But I'm Autistic". Well, obviously you're exempt, I wasn't talking about you."
Okay, so, who were you talking about? Who isn't exempt? What is your criteria for an acceptable and an unacceptable picky eater, and why? How do you know that the person you are making fun of isn't Autistic? Or doesn't have some other medical condition that causes food restrictions?
The short answer is that you don't. You don't know. You have absolutely no way of knowing. That person you deemed acceptable to make fun of for being a picky eater because they refuse to eat vegetables is very likely Autistic.
"Well, if they’re being entitled-" So it's actually entitled people you don't like, and not picky eaters? Also, I have seen so many picky eaters get called entitled despite not acting as such, simply for being picky in the first place, so I don't even really trust this assessment.
Literally, the amount of times I've seen people accusing picky eaters of being entitled for bring their own food to like a dinner or something is too many to count. Like, they literally accommodated themselves! What more do you want?!
Most people that are extreme picky eaters, are not picky by choice. And I'd say that most of those people are picky due to medical conditions like ARFID or other sensory issues. There is no "acceptable" picky eater to make fun of. Ever.
Unless you are the one directly caring for, and feeding said picky eater, it literally does not affect you. Leave picky eaters alone.

If we can have shows about the lives of adults with dwarfism, autism, compulsive hoarding, etc.
Then why can't we have shows about people with debilitating mental health disorders?
Don't get me wrong - those three are absolutely a start. But it's not nearly enough.
I, for one, would pay to be on a show about people with AVPD, social anxiety, dyspraxia, misophonia, or what have you, if it meant that people would become more understanding towards the daily struggles of...us.
Eating disorders are another thing that should get their own shows, particularly ARFID.
Ableism in general has become so normalized that there's simply no wait for us to get help. I would go so far as to say that ableism is the most severe and destructive form of discrimination there is. Nothing is worse than being firmly against people who could very well be unable to live a normal life without accommodations. Awareness of this shit needs to be spread, or maybe even shoved down people's throats.
It's time for us to rise up and tell people that we are FED UP of how the world as a whole treats us as though we're sub-human.

When food is the central love language that binds people together, what place is there for those of us who don’t want to be fed? If “eating is[…]the exclusive privilege of the living,” does that make me simply the walking dead? You can’t be a picky eater in the dungeon. Okay, but – hear me out – what if you are?
WOULD YOU, COULD YOU, EAT A DRAGON? an essay about picky eating, ARFID, and Dungeon Meshi is now up on neverseemenaked.com, and I’d love it if people took a look, even if it’s to yell at me about completely missing the point.
(You can also find my cartoons about asexuality, anxiety, and other a-words!)
