"I don't have any muggle lock-picking skills." Elio countered, "We do have right to get access to knowledge but there's a reason why these books in particular are in the Forbidden section. You normally have to get permission to get in here because some of these books contain dangerous information." Or at least that's what he's been told. He's never actually been in here so how would he know for sure? He still can't believe he let Marin talk him into doing this. Rule-breaking wasn't something he did and yet here he was.
Most people would probably blame Marin for being a bad influence but it's not like that… Okay, maybe a little on this occasion. People were so fast to judge others just from hearing rumors. Elio never paid much attention to them even if he heard them. He would rather get to know someone before making any kind of judgment on their character.
"I mean yes you convinced me to come along but it's not like you dragged me here unwillingly." He blinks in surprise when the lock opens. "I can't believe you just actually did that. Without magic. Muggles really do know some stuff we don't." He walks inside of the forbidden section and motions for her to follow him. "Have you ever been in here before? I got no clue where to look." Lighting up his wand would help but that would only increase the risk of them being caught, something he would rather avoid at all costs. "I mean are these sorted by subject or something? I know what the book is called but that's about it…"

We all know children, especially the younger ones, can be absolutly ruthless in their comments. Sooo how would the dads react to be annihilated by their child, either by a offhand comment or because they gave them sass. And to make it even worse there were witnesses XD
When Mortarion gets back home from a long campaign, all he wants to do is see his kid, ok? But the moment he steps into their room, they scrunch up their nose and frown. "Ewww, you smell like rotten egg." Mortarion pauses, knowing that he sometimes goes nose-blind. Tries to subtly catch a whiff of his own scent. Excuses himself to go and take a bath. Feels a tad embarrassed, mostly because he saw a serf choke on her own spit when his kid made that comment.
Fulgrim and his child, a teenager at this point, gets into an intense argument. It escalates when his kid calls him a "senior citizen". Fulgrim actually finds himself at a loss for words at that, so offended that he can't help but gape uselessly like a fish. The space marines nearby share a wide-eyed look and quickly vacate the area, just in time for Fulgrim to go on a ten minute rant about how he'd not old, how rude that was, children should respect their parents and all that jazz. His kid feels satisfied knowing they won that argument.
It's one of those days when the nails in Angron's head are causing him immense pain and making him lash out at everyone around him. Sadly, this includes his kid who he ends up yelling at sometimes. His kid, used to this and completely over it, turns to the closest person, a new space marine, and goes "You'll have to excuse him, he gets cranky when he's hungry." Angron grits his teeth enough that it causes his gums to bleed but leaves before he can say, or do, something he'll regret.
One of the things Magnus enjoys doing the most is teaching his child new things. Whenever they understand something, the moment it clicks in their brain, their eyes sparkle in a way that reminds him so much of himself. Today's lesson is special, about ancient Terran history. Magnus, wanting to test his little one, decides to ask them if they have any idea how he knows all of these facts. His child thinks about it for a moment, brows furrowed in deep contemplation before they look up to meet his gaze. "Because you're very old." Magnus face twitches before he breaks out into a wide smile and chuckles. The idea that his little one thinks that he's old enough to have experienced the Terra of old... it's more charming than it is offensive.
As they get older, Perturabo gets into quite a lot of fights and arguments with his child as they grow more and more independent and stop listening to him. During one of these arguments, Perturabo calls his kid childish because they refuse to do as he say. Their reply? "I AM a child, what's your excuse?" It's only the presence of other people that keeps Perturabo from blowing up, otherwise he would have started yelling at them at full volume. Instead he bites his tongue, grits his teeth and immediately sends them to their room, telling them that they are grounded and that he will come up with a suitable punishment for mouthing off.
Alpharius and Omegon are told that their kid asked for them and so they show up in their room, only to be met by a face that looks very disappointed when they see them. The twins tilt their heads and ask if their child didn't call for them. The child huffs. "No, I did, I just meant the fun Alpharius." Turns out, none of them are the 'fun' Alpharius, that's some random Alpha Legion marine. Neither of them know how to feel about this.
Lorgar is watching with pride as his little one is making friends with some children, standing a fair distance away together with the other parents. Close enough to hear what the kids are talking about but far enough to give them a sense of space. The other children start talking about what their parents do for a living. Lorgar's child listens attentively and when it's their turn to say what he does, they puff up their chest with pride. "My father spends a lot of time on his knees". Lorgar can't help the laugh of surprise that escapes him. He awkwardly explains to the other parents, who suddenly can't look him in the eyes, that his child is talking about praying.
It happens sometimes that Horus tells his child how much they remind him of himself. One day, he says that they look a lot like he did when he was their age and that they are probably going to grow up to look like him too. His child suddenly looks very distressed. "Does that mean I'm also going to be bald some day?" they ask while staring at the top of his head. Horus throws his head back and laughs, taking no offense to the statement. He ruffles his child's hair. Not unless you shave it, little one!" Only laughs more when he sees how relieved his child looks.
So Konrad's kid is in their rebellious teenage phase and Konrad is not handling it well. They argue quite a lot and Konrad can get quite nasty when this happens. His kid, however, can get equally nasty, as made evident during one of their more intense arguments after Konrad makes a remark about them making bad life choices. "Father, with all due respect, when you were my age you used to eat rats and run around in the nude, slaughtering criminals with your bare hands. I believe I am doing quite fine in comparison." The serfs scurry out of the room, the Night Lords hold their breaths and Konrad bites his tongue so hard it bleeds. After a few seconds, he tells his kid that fine, to do whatever they want and not to come running back to him when it blows up in their face.
Sanguinius wants to show his child, who is still very young, that not all planets of the Imperium are the same, so he brings them to different worlds. One of the worlds he brings them to is an agri-world. His little one is very fascinated by the whole thing, especially the animals. Sanguinius is happy they are enjoying themself when suddenly they grab his one of his hands and point at something. "Look dad, it's you!" Sanguinius turns his head... and sees a goose hissing at them. He's got to cover his mouth with his other hand in order to stifle his laughter. The Blood Angels accompanying them has to do the same. Sanguinius is not offended, he just finds it charming.
It's one of those rare times where Corvus brings his little one with him to Terra. During this visit, his kid happens to meet Malcador for the first time. Corvus stands behind his kid as Malcador talks to them. Malcador asks his child if they like visiting Terra. Corvus' child nods. "Yeah, it's fun, I get to meet a lot of new, exciting people. Dad don't get out of the house a lot, that's why he's got no friends." Malcador laughs with such intensity that he wheezes and Corvus has to look away to hide his embarrassed expression, his pale cheeks turning a dusty pink.
It happens when Ferrus is in his workshop, where he's been for a couple of days straight, working away on a new project. He's interrupted by his child who peeks into the room and he scolds them for it. His child, rather than looking remorseful or saying sorry, looks at him in clear disappointment and goes "This is why you don't have any friends, dad" and closes the door. Ferrus just stands there, slack-jawed, wondering if he heard them right. He looks at the other people in his workshop, all who are desperately pretending to have not heard a thing. Ferrus snaps his mouth shut and goes back to work, trying to not dwell on how much truth his child's words held.
It's a calm day for Rogal and his child is sitting on his lap as he does paperwork. He talks to them while he's working, explaining just what he's doing. He feels very proud because it appears his child is listening attentively to what he has to say. Suddenly, his kid turns their head to look him in the eyes. Rogal assumes that they have a question and pauses his explanation. Instead, his kid frowns and says, with quite a disgruntled tone, "Dad, you're very boring." Rogal blinks slowly, shares a look with the Imperial Fist standing guard by the door who looks equally surprised, then looks down at his kid. He grumbles. "It might still be a bit over your head..."
One day, Vulkan is asked the question all parents are eventually asked: where do babies come from? Vulkan explains that when two people love each other, sometimes a baby grows in one of them and that person gets a really big stomach in the meantime because of this. His child stares at him for a long time. They they stare at his stomach, confused. "I'm having a sibling?" It takes a second for Vulkan to understand what his child means but then he's laughing.
Lion is lecturing his kid on the importance of honor and duty. Again. It's something they have heard countless times before and they find the whole thing tedious. Under their breath, they mutter "Rich coming from someone that used to wipe with leaves." Of course their father hears what they said and pauses in the middle of his tirade, brows furrowing and nostrils flaring with offense. The room goes quiet, the Dark Angels desperately trying to pretend they didn't hear anything. Lion punishes his kid for their disrespect by sentencing them to aid the serfs in the kitchen, peeling potatoes and stuff for a month.
Leman is very happy with the way his little one gets along with the fenrisian wolves. His kid will play with them, run with them, feed them and it makes him feel proud. One thing he does not understand however is their insistence on burying their face in the wolves still wet fur after they have been given a bath. Witnessing this behavior, he one day decides to ask them. His kid peeks up from the dripping wet fur of a wolf and smiles innocently at him. "Because it smells like you, dad!" It takes Leman a couple of seconds to realize that apparently, his kid thinks he smells like wet dog. Huh. He looks around the room, trying to catch the eyes of the serfs, but they are all staring at the ceiling, refusing to meet his gaze. Double huh.
As a man that cares about legacy and duty, Jaghatai tells his kid that when he gets really old and frail, that they will take over after him. His kid, the little rascal that they are, looks him dead in the eyes and says "Oh, so soon then?" Jaghatai has to physically stop himself from smiling, finding their quick wit very charming, and simply ruffles their hair. Tells them that it will still be a long time before that happens, don't worry child. Does, however, shoot his White Scars a quick glare when they won't stop snickering like gossiping old ladies. He's not THAT old.
Roboute has a certain preference for the garbs of his home planet, togas and tunics. Sadly, not all planets have the climate for these to be worn comfortably so Roboute has been forced to wear more standard Imperial clothing for a while now. He hadn't realized his child had only ever seen him in these kinds of clothes until one day, when he finally puts on a toga, they stare at him for a few seconds before going "Are we poor?" Poor Roboute doesn't know what to say at first. The Ultramarines in the room are not meeting his gaze, desperately looking away so not to burst out laughing. He desperately tries to explain his heritage and the quality of the cloth to his child who really does not appear to get it.

You had always been fascinated by the ocean, drawn to it really. You supposed that most people were. The ocean was where all life originated, after all, and perhaps there was some innate desire to return to where one once came from. A desire so strong that it was embedded into the very fabric of one’s being to be passed on to future generations.
That’s what you mused, anyway. You, however, had very little experience with the sea, having grown up in a land-locked area of the country. The closest you had ever been to a large body of water was the local lake in the nearby state park. The closest you had ever been to the ocean, were the times you had successfully convinced your parents to take you to the aquarium in the city. You would spend hours there, entranced by the different creatures. You’d stare as the all the fish and different sharks swam above you in a timeless dance that you so desperately wished you could join in. Your favorite part, however, was always the stingray pool. You loved how affectionate the creatures seemed to be, eagerly swimming closer to the surface so that your fingers could glide down their backs. You could stay there forever if the aquarium didn’t have a strict closing time.
Your love for the ocean translated into your every day life too. You had several figurines from your visits to the aquarium, but your prized possession was a stuffed cownose ray your parents had gifted you oh so many years ago that you had affectionately named “Rusty.” This often surprised people, who assumed it would be the porcelain figurine your grandmother had brought back from one of her overseas trips for you
The mermaid was beautiful, yes. Her skin glowed with how pale she was, hair floating like she was still in the water. Her tail was painted a light blue that almost looked silver. You adored the figurine, of course, but she was certainly no rusty.
So, it came as no surprise to anyone who had met you that you chose to pursue marine biology in university. Your parents had been so proud when you had been accepted into Duke University, but they had also been hesitant.
“That’s a long way from home,” your father had reminded you. “If something happens, it’ll be hard for us to come and get you.”
“Your father’s right, dear,” you mother had frowned. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
And you had been. You had never been more sure of anything in your entire life. So, you had packed what you could and your parents drove you out to your new home for the next four years. You had made several friends during your time at school, but the one that stood out the most was Bob Floyd.
Bob was a quiet guy, but he was funny and quick as a whip. You had met him in one of your biology courses freshman year, and you found out quickly that he was also studying marine biology.
“What got you into the field?” he had asked you.
“I don’t know exactly,” you had hummed. “I suppose I’ve just always loved the ocean.”
You turned to him. “What about you?”
“Me?” He laughed. “Oh, I grew up on the coasts. Right here in North Carolina, in fact. My hometown is just a couple hours away from here.”
“Oh, so you’re a local,” you grinned.
“I suppose you could say that,” he smiled.
You two had been inseparable ever since. Well, at least during the school year. You would take small trips with your girlfriends during weekend breaks, only flying home for the longer ones, much to Bob’s annoyance.
“When are you gonna take me up on my offer to just spend the summer at my folk’s place?” he huffed in a laugh. You rolled your eyes playfully at him from where you lay sprawled out on his bedspread, several textbooks scattered around you. Bob was seated at his desk, textbooks also cracked open as the two of you studied for finals. “I’m serious, y/n. It’s senior year, and I’d really like if my best friend would come hang out with me for the summer.”
“I don’t want to be a bother,” you started, stopping when Bob scoffed, shooting you a scowl.
“You’re never a bother. And where’s that same attitude when you’re over here eating all of my poptarts?”
“That’s different,” you giggled.
Bob glared playfully at you. “I beg to differ. Besides, you’d be doin’ me a favor. I’m always so bored when I’m at home. I could really use the company.”
“Wow, what a ringing endorsement,” you joked, Bob rolled his eyes. “I’ll think about it, alright? I want to see what my parents have planned.”
As it would turn out, your parents had planned a trip abroad for the whole summer, and you were left with no other option but to accept Bob’s proposal.
“Don’t sound so happy,” he had laughed. “You love the ocean, and the house is right on the beach.”
“I am happy,” you countered, loading your bags into the back of his car. “But, I’m worried that I’ll just be an imposition.”
“For the thousandth time,” Bob said with a dramatic roll of his eyes, “you are not an imposition. My parents love you, remember? Sometimes, I think they like you more than they like me. Do you really think they would have let me invite you if they didn’t? Hell, I had to fight’em to keep’em from inviting you themselves.”
Bob’s parents were a sweet couple. Susan was a stay-at-home mom turned entrepreneur, while Richard was a tech developer, and both absolutely adored their only son. They had latched onto you the second Bob had introduced you to them during one of the home football games they had driven up to see, and now they considered you the daughter they never had.
“How did they react when you told them I was coming?” you asked him with a grin. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
“Pretty sure there’s a mountain of balloons waiting for us when we get there,” he mused, closing the door to the trunk. The two of you rounded the different sides of the car before getting in. Once your seatbelt was fastened, you looked up to see Bob giving you a peculiar look. You returned it with a confused one, and he looked down pointedly at your lap.
“Rusty does not sit in the back,” you said, hugging the stuffed ray closer. Bob let out a little laugh as he held his hands up in surrender.
“You sure you remembered everything?” he asked you as he started the car. You nodded, shifting in your seat to get more comfortable.
“I’m sure.”
“Alright then,” he grinned, turning to you. “Let’s get goin’.”

With Fem-Garp, do you think that Garp would go after Roger for child support? Do they have a custody agreement? Like maybe some time with Garp, then Roger.
Imagine Rayleigh trying to help them figure something out lol
This is one of those "depends on the AU" kind of situation! I don't think Garp being a woman would change a lot about how I perceive how she'd deal with Dragon - which is predominantly raising him on marine bases, within the confines of the life she would want him to live as well. And of course there's the occasional trip to Goa where the kid is left to fend for himself. Garp's Garp after all, her parenting methods would be... unconventional.
If she and Roger aren't a couple, then maybe she didn't think it necessary to tell Roger about the kid (especially if he annoyed her with his decision to go become a pirate!). If that's the case then I think dropping Dragon off with Roger randomly like in the Baby on Board AU would be what she'd do once Dragon was old enough to not die on Roger's ship if Roger didn't look after him. X3
Of course we could also imagine an AU where they are a couple and Roger would come back to a home base after tours (like Shanks did in the year he stayed on Dawn Island). And child support... Well... He's a pirate, he might as well make sure that some of the treasure he finds goes into buying his kid some good clothes etc, Garp can't do everything with her marine salary! Rayleigh will make sure that some of the treasure gets put aside.

LFT PART 40
Nami was walking through the town, a huge sack of clothes tossed over her shoulder, Usopp with his own sack walked beside her. Nami could feel a shift in the air around her, she was fascinated with the shift in weather patterns, which at first had been necessary for navigation and had become something of a hobby.
“Hey Usopp, we need to head back to the ship right now.”
“Huh? How come I thought you wanted to look around more? Maybe stop for lunch,” Usopp asked, confused.
“The air pressure is dropping rapidly at a rather abnormal rate, there is a Storm coming and fast, unless you and your bag of goodies want to get soaked,” Nami pointed out, changing direction towards the pier.
“All right you have a good point,” Usopp followed behind her. “Hey look, it's Sanji and Zoro, hey guys!” Usopp called out, waving in their direction. Nami stopped walking and they all gathered together. Zoro had the same shirt on from last night and two new swords, where he got the money is what Nami wanted to know. Sanji on the other hand was wearing a bright colored fish shirt that she had made him buy yesterday, he also had a few shopping bags on his arm and his other was linked with Zoro's. The date must have gone well.
“Nami-swan and Usopp, funny running into you two here,” Sanji called out to them.
“Anyone know where Luffy is?” Zoro asked not to bother with any greetings. Although he did have a point, they should find their captain.
“Is he still looking for the platform?” Usopp asked from beside her. “I believe it's right here in Town Square.”
“Shit, I think he found it,” Sanji pointed out. There was Luffy atop the executioner's platform, a large piece of wood with a hole on top with his head and hands secured, a man sitting atop of it with Buggy the annoying clown next to him. It felt like ages ago that she had stolen from him, and met Luffy and Zoro.
“Why is he on the platform about to be executed?!” Nami wasn't wasn't sure who said it or if it was everyone.
“Sanji give me your bags so you and Zoro can go save our captain, meet you back at the ship,” Nami offered, holding out her hand. “No argument, just give it here,” She told him as he opened his mouth to protest. He reluctantly handed over before following after Zoro who had already taken off. She turned around and began to head towards the docks where she was originally intending to go.
“Um Nami, shouldn't we try to help them save Luffy?” Usopp asked, walking beside her.
“Usopp what would we do that they can't do? Do you really think you can get a good shot with all those people running around? Beside Buggy the clown has a devil fruit,” Nami shook her head pointing out the facts. She didn't have her staff on her, she had come here to shop not to fight.
“Hey! I'll have you know I took down a fishmen all by myself and proved myself to Daddy the parent!” Usopp argued with her, he was lucky he was her gossip buddy and that her hands were full. “We could provide back up at least,” He must still be riding the high of serving his duel.
“Well even if that's the case we have a more important task,” her voice was sharp as ever almost as if it was the crack of lightning.
“like what?”
“Like the Storm I mentioned earlier, the air pressure and temperature have been dropping rapidly for the past while. Plus I saw cumulus clouds heading from the east. That's a sure sign of a Storm rolling in, a big one to boot. What with the ruckus going on in town Square the marines are bound to be out, I really don't want to run into Captain Smoker I've heard terrible things about him,” The lady who owned the boutique she had visited had told her all about the new captain with a devil fruit who had put this town on lockdown, there haven't been any pirates making it out of here. Their business had been surfing from his influence. “What would we do if Merry was washed away when we needed a quick get away? This way we can get her ready to sail away as soon as those three make it back,” She was just glad Sanji was there, she didn't trust Luffy and Zoro to make it back in one piece.
“Holy crap you're right! That absolutely more important Sanji and Zoro will be fine on their own!” Usopp rushed ahead of her. Lucky bastard only had one bag to carry and it had straps.
“Hey wait for me!”

okay hear me out.
after hawkmoth is defeated luka and his family can stay in one place again, so jagged and penny decide to go to london, and luka and juleka stay with them over the summer. jagged has a new album because his tour around the world inspired him a lot and he’s been doing a few concerts to promote it. there’s an after party for one of them and a bunch of cool celebrities are invited, including audrey bourgeois.
she was planning to just show up for a couple pictures, she had a new dress she wanted to show off or something, but chloe hadn’t stopped clinging to her all night complaining about her struggles with school*, and she followed her all the way to the party. once there, before the cameras are all on them, she finally gets fed up and tells chloe to get lost.
(*amongst the chaos of her dictatorship, the school year ended and she managed to use her power to get her middle school diploma, but now she had to get into high school and even with her money she still had to make it through admission paperwork and exams that her parents refused to help her with)
so chloe, once again heartbroken by her mom’s treatment, runs and finds somewhere to hide in the huge mansion where the party is happening. she is in a corner on some patio or terrace crying in silence when luka finds her. he sits next to her and asks her what’s wrong. at first chloe is defensive like “it’s none of your business, get away from me.” with her face still hidden. and luka being luka is like “chloe, right? i can feel your inner tune is overpowered by too much noise coming from every direction at once and not letting it find its way.”
“i told you to get away you little—“ she finally looks up and upon seeing his face she stops and finds herself unable to think of an insult, so she says “ugh, you might be cute even with those old rags but you still have no right speaking to me!”
so luka just smiles at her and asks if he can sit in silence then. which leaves chloe at a loss for words and in the end she just nods and turns back to face away from him. they stay like that for a while, with chloe sniffling and wiping away tears every once in a while. later she checks her phone and sighs because she has no calls or messages.
luka sees and says something like "you know, i'm glad that you're here. these events can get kind of lonely. it's weird to have all these strangers in the house all night, and my dad is always busy trying to keep them entertained ... don't get me wrong, it's really cool that he's a rockstar but. he's so famous and amazing that sometimes it's easy to feel lost under his shadow. and he was away for so long, it's hard to--"
he hesitates to continue so chloe, finally looking at him, says "it's okay. i know exactly what you mean."
luka smiles at her and it's like he's radiating calmness, enough for her to forget everything that had made her angry that day. he moves his guitar from his back to hold it in place and asks her what kind of music she likes. she's like "uh.. XY?"
"come on, you really like his music?"
"i mean his hair is SO cute, and the way he dances on stage and--"
"no, i didn't say the artist. what do you think about the music?"
she stops to think. "i don't know.. i don't pay that much attention to it, i guess. it's.. kind of boring. but who am i to judge, i was never able to play that utterly useless flute my daddy got for me once, it sounded like a caged bird with asthma. although, at least that would probably be more entertaining.."
luka laughs at that. "that's the spirit." and then "come on, let's find your sound."
..
and they spend the next hours there talking, and find that they're so different yet,, chloe feels so at peace with him in a way she hadn't in.. she can't even remember when she felt so calm. and luka can see that there's a hidden side of chloe that dares to peak out when she's feeling comfortable and that he likes and wants to see more of. and he doesnt immediately forget everything she's done to marinette and juleka and the rest of their class, but he sees hope in her, maybe he can be there for her now as she starts over.

Barn Anon. In my defence, it's not yet Feb. I promise I have a happier one after this one. Wanted to explore the Warp fuckery or rather those that are "immune" to it. :)
You wanted to scream, want to grab your aunt and yell at her that she's crazy. That... thing that she's brought to the family reunion... It doesn't belong here! It's not even human, nor is it a pet like a dog or a cat. Why is everyone so calm? why is everyone smiling? Don't they see how it's armed to the teeth? Don't they see that chainsaw sword thing that it carries around with it? Doesn't anyone notice how it's sharp edges have some dried bloodstains?
You politely excuse yourself and rush out of the house to stand at the back porch. Deep breaths. In. Out. You look out at the single tree that grows at the back, the stars that dot the sky. You manage to come back down from the emotions that threatened to overwhelm you. Laughter creeps out from the house, you see that…thing acting all shy and bashful and you feel like throwing up. Does no one else see that thing for the danger it is? The majority of the world seems to be the same regardless of location or culture. You've seen the pictures and videos of people around the globe with their Space Marines and how everyone else would comment how they wish they had a Space Marine of their own. Just last week your friend was excitedly showing you a video of a guy and his Space Marine summitting some mountain together, with the guy excitedly hugging his Space Marine.
The only comfort you have is that you aren't alone. There's others that see the true danger of these Space Marines. It's a small minority and there are few spaces online that you can talk about it. This small community has a theory that Space Marines must have some form of mind control or that they plan to overthrow humanity. It didn't matter to you if you agreed to those theories, you're just relieved to find others that understand. You know you can't tell your parents, oh god no. They'll think you're crazy or worse, some sort of conspiracy theorist or extremist. You're not crazy! I-It's them that's insane, they're the ones that need help.
You open the chatroom start typing away, venting to like-minded sane individuals. You know you're right. Your family is in danger, they just can't see it yet but you can save them. They'll thank you in the end. You'll find a way to get rid of that Space Marine, somehow.
Thank you for feeding into my weird idea about how it is just a bit of warp fuckery cuz lets be honest no one would just do what the husbandry tag does unless it's some sort of warp fuckery.
Besides I'm always a lover of the Eldritch (Also you cannot tell me as a Catholic that biblically accurate angels aren't some sort of eldritch abominations straight out of Lovecraft just with more fire and feathers motif vs oceanic) and to imply something is just wrong under the surface is my jam
How can people not see that these things aren't normal?!
You do your research finding old and you mean old newspapers from the 20's and there is nothing about Astartes at all. Up until the 40's where suddenly there are pictures of them... some of them being seen in old war videos.
Some theorize that that Nazi Occultism brought them here but they are all beyond our petty conflicts as seen with the futile attempt there was to bring them into the Korean war. They only cared about their "companions". There use to be so much more uproar in papers about them but once the baby boomers were born that's suddenly when everyone was okay with them. Only the people in the Silent Generation and the GI generation were complaining about the Astartes and then suddenly their children or grandchildren were okay with them.
You continue to read as the generations went on... Gen X and Millennials saw the least amount of pushback... Millennials it was considered weird to have the opinion you have now. You run your fingers through your hair looking at the newspaper articles as you now realize that Gen z and Gen Alpha will only grow up with "positive" connotations.
Gone were the idea that only Loyalist astartes were safe to own and then it moved to include renegades and unaligned. You shudder at the thought of your cousin with a Khornite living with them. They're going to die you've tried to warn them but you worry their Astarte might know what's up... they are so much smarter. You pale seeing an old guide about a Blood Angel going into a rage... you shutter at the article.
Your parents are talking about getting one but you managed to convince them that they can get one once you move out. You read the chat and how someone's posted about how a kid was recently abducted by one... or another about how some Gen Alpha kids can even speak their language... and then the theory about bonding that seems to come up when the kids explain their space marine... oh great a wild idea that you get chosen and have no choice in the matter.
You look behind you as you make your way home late trying to desperately avoid the dark alleyways and crossing the road when you see people walking with their Astartes. You've already found out nice communities that don't allow Astartes to live there so you can get away from the madness.

Book Blurb:
One woman learns the secrets of the five Jaeger brothers in the new romance from New York Times bestselling author Penelope Douglas.
On the other side of town, in the dark glades, under the rain…
Macon is the oldest. Thirty-one. Ex-Marine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him smile.
Army is twenty-eight. A single dad with the most beautiful green eyes. He has no idea who he is, if not a Jaeger brother.
Iron will be in prison soon. You’d never think it to meet him. He’s a nice guy, actually. But he can’t stop reacting to everything.
Dallas is the one I hate. Twenty-one, cruel, and selfish. He takes and then throws away whatever’s left.
And Trace is mine. Or he was for about two seconds. No one can tame him for long.
Not that I ever wanted to. It was fun, but now I need to go home. Back to my side of the tracks. Away from the swamps and these men. To my parents’ big house. On my clean street. Where I’m never dirty or messy or hot. And I will. I’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning. I just want to crash on the couch tonight.
Their house is dark and quiet, everyone else is asleep. Except for one. He sees me crying and comes at me from behind. I let him wrap his arms around my body and hold me tightly. His breath is on my neck, his fingers are in my hair, and he doesn’t stop there.
I don’t think it was Trace.
Review:
One woman, five brothers, and the mystery of who is the one who stole her heart. Krisjen knows the Jaeger brothers and she knows that what she craves is someone to love her, to see her... and after one of the brothers sleeps with her and actually gives her what she's always wanted she's determined to find him and keep him... the only problem is she doesn't know which brother she slept with.
Macon: The oldest, a 31 year old ex-marine. Grumpy, imposing, cold...and yet she can't keep her eyes off of him.
Army: The 29 year old single father with beautiful green eyes. He's always kind... but has a broken heart from a Saint who left him.
Iron: Will be going to prison soon... but he's kind and caring, but can't help reacting to everything.
Dallas: The cruel 21 year old who hates her for no reason... who is selfish and petulant.
Trace: Playful and joking... never serious... and only hers for a time but no more.
Between these five brothers Krisjen has to figure out which one is the one, the one who saw her and fits her. But finding out means getting closer to each of them and it only makes it more complicated. On top of that Krisjen is looking after her siblings, dealing with a mother who would rather sell Krisjen off for money and an absentee father. Krisjen just wants to make money to save her siblings and finally find someone to love her... but the path to finding the one will never be easy and its only more complicated for a Saint like her amongst the tracks. Krisjen might be kind and sweet and look innocent but there is something darker in her, something that hungers and she's not afraid to stab to get what she wants. She needs someone to see her, to understand her and love her... and the one person who it might be will be the one person no one else expected. This BOOK, let me tell you the way I was kicking and screaming while reading this book. I love Krisjen so much, I love how badly she wants to be loved and how far she will go for those she loves. I love her sweet heart and honestly don't blame any of the Jaeger brothers for wanting to be with her cuz if it were me I would be first in line to ask for her hand. Now the romance in this one was so much fun because Krisjen has to figure out which one of the brothers is for her, she gets to know each of them more and we get to see more of their characters and sides. Macon, sweet sweet Macon, I just KNEW IT. I love how you can see him drop the hints of how much he is looking out for her whether he wants to or not and after everything thats happened to him, how much he cares for her and loves her. These two were so good together! ALSO CLAY AND LIV MY BABIES I AM SO HAPPY WE GOT TO SEE MORE OF THEM. AND LAST but not least that last paragraph, MISS PENELOPE WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME?!?!?! AM I GETTING TOXIC CALLUM X DALLAS AT LAST? Those two boys are UNHINGED AND ABSOLUTELY INSANE. I CANNOT WAIT for the terror and chaos they will cause. As you can see I loved this book with my whole heart and absolutely need more books set in this universe for each of the brothers.

A list of audio books on CD I have only the faintest memory of because I slept through a lot of them while my parents drove us places days away
There is a marine biologist or something researching down in the Mariana Trench and sees a giant fuck off shark the size of a bus and gets back to base and gets called crazy and fired for talking about giant sharks in water too cold for them or whatever. His wife cheats on him with his best friend. Another scientist asks him out to the Trench for help with, idk, science and he goes 'this is my time to prove the giant shark was real.' They find a giant shark, it eats someone in a tiny submarine or whatever. They eventually manage to haul the carcass up out of the depths and a bigger, pregnant giant shark makes her way safely through the cold waters by hanging out in all the blood-heated water while she eats the corpse as it rises, dun dun dun. There is a bunch of nonsense where the giant shark idk eats people in shark cages and a helicopter. They bomb it? And hunt for its babies after realizing she's no longer pregnant. The shark eats the cheating wife. I want to say he drives a submarine inside the giant shark and blows it up to kill it. I think it was called Meg?
There is a programmer doing work for the FBI overhauling the fingerprint analysis software. She's testing it with a fingerprint in the database she picked at random and goes 'wow this was at a lot of crime scenes where women got raped and murdered brutally, I should let someone know' and gets fired or whatever. The fingerprint search results can't be duplicated.  She looks into one of the cases associated with it that was marked closed and meets a shut-in 'I got a doctorate at age 12' genius who gives off the worst misanthrope vibes and he goes 'look yes I was sleeping with my hot professor, but I didn't kill her, I found her like that.' Something something, turns out the old software was programmed to ignore that fingerprint because the guy's mentor is a genius who works for the government and as long as he keeps making them lasers or whatever, they don't care about his occasional foray into carnage. I have no idea how this resolved. She is knocked out for raping and killing at some point. She and the former child genius probably bang.
There is a geneticist couple who can't have babies the normal way and decide to grow one in a jar and they tweak his genes. He's amazing, so bright, so beautiful, so utterly devoid of anything regarding empathy. This tiny mad scientist decides at some point he needs siblings and sets up more incubation jars. His parents find out and set up the only thing I really remember of this whole book. They peer into the glass to look at one mostly done cooking and have just the worst 'I have no mouth and yet must scream' reaction as they realize it, and all the other fetus jars, have deeply sloped back foreheads because their tiny mad scientist son also tinkered- so that the results wouldn't have frontal lobes. I don't think anyone made it out of this book alive.
There is a rapture except it's aliens? And the world turns into Stephen King's The Mist and a lady goes rescuing kids from monsters under the bed with the help of Very Good Dogs and one of the kids mentioned grandma didn't disappear screaming like the other adults, she was laughing, so she went somewhere else. Something something, children are innocent and adults are sinners who deserve to be eaten by alien foliage, except for just enough of The Right People to take care of these adorable moppets and the Very Good Dogs are watching you and judging. I am taught the word tutelary. Who's that other airport book author you can't escape that isn't James Patterson? That's this guy.
There has been a murder. At some point a dude looks at the Japanese widow and starts thinking about her perky little tits and exotic dark eyes and he can feel his trousers get tight. My dad stops the book.

pll rewatch 1x05 - 1x06
first liars sleepover! along with their convenient morning clothes despite the sleepover being impromptu
Emily and Spencer reassuring Aria it is absolutely not her fault that Byron is a cheating dickhead is sweet, and this is the first time we get Hanna and Aria being close, with the bonding over shaky marriages.
Of course Emily tells Aria that Byron and Ella will work it out and be fine. Whatever other faults Emily's parents may have, they have a rock-solid marriage, the good kind.
Hanna is scared of children and desires confirmation that six year olds don't bite <3 Look at the cat faces on the supposedly hideous uniform (and a liar yet again being so weird in public about the blind girl)
Tumblr media
Spencer is such a Well Done Son Guy to her dad in 1x05, she's even eager to play catch with him (okay, volley a tennis ball.) God, I love how naive Spencer is about her family. She always wants to believe in them, and in the possibility of their forgiveness.
Emily has a bartender cousin who snuck her into a concert once. This is relevant to nothing but is a fun fact. Her and Toby bond over their indie music tastes
Best A message: "Lions and tigers and bitches oh my, there's no place like homecoming"
Close runner-up is "Hanna got dissed and Emily got kissed!" as a lead-up to A sending Hanna photos of Emily/Maya kissing.
Spencer keeping the jungle red lipstick in a ziplock baggie is so important to me.
Aw, Toby looks like such a kicked puppy when Emily doesn't acknowledge him at the Grille. I really do have a soft spot for S1!Toby, he can't help that he's got a creepy affect. And then he gets shoved into glassware at the end of this episode while trying to disclose something very difficult! Poor guy.
Aria making Mike watch a black-and-white film with her even while they're stressed about their parents is such an older sibling move, I must respect this.
Going from Peter Hastings being terrible to Ella and Byron having a yelling match in the living room to Ashley Marin talking to Hanna about Sean and Hanna's dad....Ashley Marin is best PLL parent to me <3
These girls really are their parent's kids, personality-wise, for better or worse
Hanna is So! Supportive! Of! Emily being gay! while leaking nothing. It is very cute. Hanna is in a one woman #ally competition and she is winning.
Though, really, it's interesting seeing how...tentative Hannily are in their friendship this early, knowing how their friendship progresses.
Okay, Hanna is tentative about nothing, but you know what I mean.
The other three liars barge in on Aria's mopefest - I wonder if Aria finds it hard to believe they really did drift apart the previous year, given how quickly they snap together for this non-A issue.
Oh Spencer, leaving in the middle of a slow-dance because she suddenly has an A theory, and then obsessively staring at Emily because she's terrified for her.
Love that we first see this with Emily. Won't be the last time.
The homecoming has a whole-ass boyband??? I had no memory of them
As an excuse for ditching the carnival stall, Aria goes, "oh you know, my claustrophobia got to me". .....RIP to Aria in a few seasons, that's rough buddy.
Spencer takes a day to realize the significance of Toby's tattoo; Emily sees 901 and immediately connects it to Ali's disappearance and death. Aria did just text her about Ali's killer, but I like to think that Emily would've made that inference regardless.
Stupendous A tag. Spray-painting over the population sign to decrement it by one? No notes.

SPOILER ALERT: if you have not seen ANY of Barry season 4 yet...
Okay, so I'm just sitting here waiting for the next episode of anxiety (I.E Barry) to premiere and I started thinking some stuff...I would like you all to read this fully and leave any/all comments for the end. I am about to say some really crazy shit and it might not make sense, but trust me, it does.
There is very little known about Barry's mother. I mean when he was in jail, we got a flashback of Barry as child, and his dad (John) is introducing him to Fuchs. His mother is not in anyone of those flashbacks by the way. Ergo, I started thinking: what if Fuchs and John were working together as in John was Fuchs' hitman before Barry? Makes sense, wouldn't it? I mean, Fuchs didn't just wake up one day and say he wanted to start a hitman venture. It had to be something he was already doing before, right? Also he sort of mentioned that he would look after Barry since John saved his ass during Vietnam. But instead what if it was because John wanted to help Fuchs out by giving him a "new blood" knowing that his son had violent tendencies, which would make him a great hitman? Also do we know if Barry's dad is even alive anymore? what if he was killed during a hit? (yeah I realize I have fallen deep into the abyss. I am so deep in fact that there is no sunlight down here and I can't find my way back out)
Anyway, don't jump in yet, just hear my out. So, Barry's mom finds out that John is a hitman and/or they don't have a great relationship, so she medicates with alcohol and goes into a deep depression resulting in her self-assassination. I mean it is a common theme in the show. This leaves Barry in the care of his father, who let's face it, if he is a hitman, he's not going to be very loving towards his son. This results in Barry looking for other male role models to fill that void as he gets older (Fuchs...then Gene). So, moving forward, Barry joins the marines to try and validate his life. Spoiler alert, its only temporary. Now who does he see when he comes home? Fuchs. He comes in like an angel of death dressed in black, ready to help Barry and give him a purpose. (Also I wonder if it is Fuchs who got him out of the Marines in the first place?) He knows Barry has these violent tendencies (so does Barry's son, John).
I say all that for context. In the last episode of Barry, we see him and Sally have created some sort of "Family" as they play the roles of parents to an 8 year old child, named...John (after Barry's father). I hope you all are still with me because what I'm about to say next will BLOW your minds, and probably piss off some of you.
Sally is depressed, clearly. She is self medicating with alcohol and trying to hold up this "role" of being a wife/mother. She sucks at it by the way. If we were to say that Barry is sort of mimicking/or maybe trying to recreate his childhood (because let's face it, he is as the flashbacks are strangely similar to his "current" life). I can see Sally taking a trip down self-assassination boulevard leaving Barry to raise his son on his own. How will he do that? I can see him becoming a hitman again. Why you may ask, because Barry is a violent person and he is irredeemable. (He tries to bury these urges, however he is showing his son videos of a kid getting killed with a baseball bat and dying; those feelings are still very much present in Barry). Now becoming a hitman will cause him to grow distance towards his son until one day he introduces John to a man who will give him the paternal needs he has been looking for...and that man is...wait for it...HANK!! Then Hank grooms John into becoming the perfect hitman...BOOM full circle!! The cycle of violence continues!!
I see you Bill Hader and if you end the series like this, you'd be a fucking genius!! This would be an interesting twist, if I'm being honest.

Leaving Hawkins
“Billy, I can't close this one.” You whine, pushing your baggage and trying to pull the zipper.
“Do you really need all that?” He asks, gesturing at your two huge pieces of baggage, and the one you can't close, a bit smaller.
“Yes. These are my clothes and stuff. We're moving out, I'll need all of it.” Batting your eyelashes, you take Billy's hand. “Just help me close it, please?”
He rolls his eyes dramatically before working on your stuff. And there's a small pile of clothes that won't let it close. “I'll rip the zipper if I push it further.” As he speaks, he takes off what's on the way and the thing closes down easily.
“What am I going to do?”
“I have a bag you can use. But we'll have to drive back to my place before hitting the road.”
“Hitting the road...” You mutter, sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Something wrong?”
“No, I just... Can't believe it.” Looking down at your hands, you sigh. “I was expecting this moment for so long and now is actually happening. I'm going to college. We're both going to college. Together. And this is–”
“Amazing.” He finishes off for you, sitting by your side. “(Y/N), I... I've heard from some people that I'd never be anyone. That I'd have a miserable life and I swear I didn't care. I was fine with it but now it's different. Now I have you and I want to give you the whole world.”
“You already do.” Tracing the outline of his jaw, you stare into his blue eyes. “And the future that waits for us will be great. You'll be an amazing Marine Biologist...” As you speak, you move to sit on his lap, arms around his neck. “...And I'll be an awesome Architect. And our kids will know their parents are soulmates, meant to be together.”
“Pretty girl, you couldn't be more right.” And he claims your lips on a kiss, fast and needy, that has to be cut off way too soon because of the footsteps coming towards the bedroom.
“Kids, it's getting late.” She says, and before she can come in, you stand up. “I don't mean to kick you out but the road to California is long and you have a certain time to reach the hotels you'll be sleeping in and–” She stops talking suddenly, swallowing hard. “Baby, I'm gonna miss you.” She pulls you into a hug, way too tight. “Call me from the hotels and the moment you set foot in California, hear me? I'll visit you as soon as I get my days off.“
“Alright, mom.” Giggling, you pull away. “We're ready to go. We'll have to stop at Billy's to get another bag but that's it. I'm officially leaving Hawkins.”
“Dear God, I thought this day would never come.” She mutters but helps you with the baggage anyway.
At the sidewalk, she hugs you and Billy once again, holding you for way too long. But you don't blame her. One day, it'll be you saying goodbye to your kids, and you know you'll feel the same.
“Hargrove, take care of her.” She says, finally letting you go. “Make sure she's eating well, and watch out for her allergies and–”
“Mom, Billy will take care of me just fine. And I'll take care of him as well.” You assure her, giving her one last kiss on the cheek before getting inside the car.
And then, Billy starts driving.
It's not like your leaving Hawkins yet, but you are leaving your house and your mother.
Holding back the tears, your take Billy's hand. “The first day of the rest of our lives.” You mutter, looking at the houses passing by.
“It'll be wonderful.”
Nodding, you smile. “It sure will.”
Twenty minutes later your stopping by his house for the last time. But there's something you notice immediately. And so does Billy, as all his body gets tense.
Neil's car is here.
“Wait here, alright?” You quickly nod, but before he can leave the car, you pull him towards you, just to kiss him.
You've never met Neil. Billy doesn't want you anywhere near that devil of a man. And you're alright with it. As you watch him leaving the car and getting inside the house, you regret making him do that just to get you some stupid bag.
On the day Billy finally told you everything, about who his father really is and what he did, you saw your boyfriend cry for the first time. And on that night you held him, not giving a damn to what would happen if your mother caught him in your bedroom. He needed you.
>>>>>>>>>>>> And maybe he needs you< now.>
Taking a deep breath, you step out of the car, and when you reach the porch, you hear a yell. Your heart skips a beat as you run for the door, but on the moment you open it, Billy is already coming out, a black bag in his hand. He stops when he sees you, eyes going wide.
“B, are you alright?” You ask in a soft voice.
“I am, pretty girl. C'mon.” He walks out, taking your hand.
“So this is the plaything you're using this time.” The voice, harsh and loud, comes from inside the house. Both you and Billy stop, turning around. “Sweet little thing. Don't ruin her life as you did with yours.”
“I'll never understand what kind of sick pleasure you have on stepping on me!” Billy yells, moving forward, but not letting go of your hand. “There are a lot of things I should say to you but I just realized it doesn't matter. You don't matter.”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> “You won't say anything because you know I'm right.” Neil laughs, eyeing you up and down as if you were nothing. Neil thinks everyone is nothing. < Because that's what he sees every time he looks in the mirror.>
>>>>>>>>>> “I won't say anything because it doesn't matter. Because <you> doesn't matter.” Billy says, squeezing your hand a little. Stepping closer, you lay your forehead on his shoulder, just so he knows you're here, with him. “There are much more important things in my life right now, and it finally made me see who you are and who I am. And I'm so much more than you.”
You can't believe the words coming off his mouth.
And you can't believe you have a part in it. In this change, in this strength.
“You're just a–”
“He's just an amazing man.” You decide to speak, locking eyes with Billy before looking at Neil. “Billy is everything, and you're nothing. Just a sad, mediocre man, who needs to make others feel bad just so you feel better about yourself.”
“I'm leaving now, father.” Billy spits the last word as if it was poison in his mouth. “And I don't want or need you in my life. In our lives.” And he starts walking again, and just before you turn around, you notice a bruise forming on Neil's face. “Hope I'll never see you again.”
A river of profanities leaves Neil's lips, in yells and curses. You keep an eye on Billy, checking if he wants to go back there. To kick him in the gut or something, but Billy is oddly... Peaceful. As he drives away. For good.
“...B.” You say in a low voice, reaching out a hand to touch the nape of his neck. “Are you alright?”
Sighing, he glances at you. “I am.” There isn't a hint of doubt in his voice. “Today I just... He started yelling and I started to feel like before but them... Then I thought about you. And it just clicked.” There are tears in your eyes, and you don't even try to hold them back. “You showed me how good life can be. And the man I want to be, for you. Because you deserve all the love world and I'll give it to you. Through studying, having a good job, and building a life together. Getting married and having kids. All of it. I want all of it... With you.”
“I love you.” You whisper, wiping some tears away. Luckily, he's forced to stop at the red light, and you get the chance to lean on him, kissing all over his face until your lips finally meet his. “I love you, B.”
“Love you too, pretty girl.” He replies, looking up at you on your awkward position, kinda on him, but not really. “I–” He's cut off by some idiot blasting the horns behind.
Rolling your eyes, you go back to your seat as Billy starts moving again. “Don't even bother, we'll have a lot of time to make out.”
“I'm counting on it.” With a wink and a sassy smirk, Billy makes you blush and smile again, as you both cross the sign that says ‘Leaving Hawkins’.
The road is long, and the next years will certainly be difficult. But as long as you're together, you can take it all.

yes he's a big cool marine biologist, no he can't handle getting a shot without hyperventilating. it's ok surya, i get u. it just feels so unnatural to have that like, injected in you. yuck. he used to be really bad about it when he was a kid. definitely screamed while getting shots when he was really young, but he's grown out of that embarrassing stuff. now he just needs something to hold on to and some patience while he keeps himself from having a panic attack lol.
needles
minor hc, but if you're close/dating and he needs to get one for something it definitely helps to hold your hand, even though he'll probably squeeze tight enough to break it lmao
Pablo
he seems like he would be very squeamish about anything blood/injury related. burns are tolerable since he and his brother are both exposed to them pretty often and they take enough protective measures for it not to be super common, but damn, you come to him with an open cut and he's probably going to faint lmao. at the very least he'll be sick. he just can't handle seeing people bleed, it freaks him way out
blood
he physically cannot handle getting blood drawn without passing out.
growing up he was like the worst when raf got hurt, because pablo would be the one encouraging them to do risky things like finding the steepest hill tp ride their bikes down, but the second raf fell and scraped up his arm or something pablo was. out.
i love him but he is a wimp about it
Yuri
i don't know why. i feel like she would either rlly like snakes or absolutely hate them so im gonna go with the latter. they're just so weird. maybe one bit her when she was younger and she just hung onto that fear subconsciously or maybe she just finds their little no-leggedness freaky, but she doesn't like them regardless. she sees them frequently enough, and she won't like kill them or anything, they just make her very uncomfortable
snakes
i also hc scott as a massive snake guy. like he definitely owns a snake. and whenever yuri stops by charles's house scott always tries to get her to hold it. it's torture and she is definitely going to clock him one day
Luke
again this one is based off of vibes alone because i couldn't decide between a fun fear and a deep one so i just tacked the second onto the bottom lol
clowns
luke is definitely scared of clowns. like come on look at this guy, of course he's scared of clowns. and for good reason! his parents invited one for his tenth birthday and it still haunts him to this day. something about them just makes him so incredibly uncomfortable. nina definitely teases him about it, but ben gets it; clowns are just so unnatural. yes this is a clown slander page im sorry
other fear i had in mind for him is being afraid of stagnation, like staying in the same place forever and never venturing out from what his parents want him to do. it's a subconscious fear. that's why he's so adamant about his own business, because the last thing he wants is to be stuck running his family's vineyard forever. man just wants to grow away from what he's expected to do!!

LFT PART 36
Nami was shocked, she hadn't been expecting Daddy the parent to know Usopp's father.
“So that's why you left the Marines to become a bounty hunter,” Nami had been surprised to hear the news, she was aware that bounty hunters had their place but that they were still looked down upon by many Marines. “It makes so much sense now,” She couldn't help but wonder if Genzio, who was the closest thing to a father she and Nojiko had to father, would have done the same.
“Papa, no! A pirate did not spare your life! Please tell me that's not true! Tell me you killed that nasty pirate!” The little girl cried pleadingly.
“Usopp!” Nami turned to her friend. “Wow! Your father must have been amazing!” She tried to cheer him up. Maybe after hearing about his father he would grow a spine. “He beat Daddy the father in a duel! And it sounds like he definitely hasn't forgotten all about you! He's thinking about you while he's out there traveling the seas, thinking about the toddler that he left behind in that little village of yours,” Usopp put his arm out, tears in his eyes as he sobbed. Perhaps she hadn't done a great job of cheering him up. “It's OK, we understand I'm here for you,”
“There's no way you could understand Nami! That's not the only reason I'm crying! There's more than one reason, you're so much stronger and braver than me! Your father figure was there for you!” Usopp stated before turning to look at the man in front of him. “I get it, I understand why you'd tell me the story about my father. You told me so I'd be more courageous, less of a weak coward and be more like him! I'll never be a great warrior of the sea if I always run away,” Usopp took a step forward. “You laid out your truth, your embracement, your failure. You did all that to show me what kind of man my father is, what kinda man I should strive to be. I'll never forget that lesson, Carol, you have the bravest man in the world for a father. He's not a coward, he isn't afraid of anything. Isn't afraid to be shamed! It's easy to find men who are big and strong but the ones who put their honor and pride on the line for others are one in a million,” Nami was reminded of Genzio, of that stupid pin wheel on his hat. How he wore it everyday just to make her smile.
“Papa is one in a million!” Carol agreed looking up at her father.
“I can't accept your dad's mercy, I have to be brave and face my death head on, I want a rematch!” Usopp cried out, wiping his tears with his arm. “I have something to prove to myself!”
“As you wish, choose your weapon. This will be our final duel,” Nami wanted to step in and stop this fight but she knew it would not go well.
“I chose Pachinko,” Usopp took his green slingshot out of his shoulder bag.
“Good, now let's see,” The man began to look around. A bell rang in the distance; it sounded ominous. “That weathervane, hit it if you wish to live,” In the distance was a whale shaped weather vane wearing a silly crown.
“What! That thing!?” Usopp had every right to sound panicked, how was he supposed to hit it! The slightest gust of wind could cause it to move! Daddy the father pulled out a gun and pointed it at Usopp.
“If you miss…”
“Right you'll shoot me dead, no third chances.”
“Usopp,” Nami didn't want to watch her friend die, what would she tell the others? Usopp was her friend, the one she was closest to on the ship, he was like her, normal. Not like the other three that were crazy and almost inhuman.
“This is the shot that will determine if I live or die with honor not turning back now,” Usopp pulled back the strings on his slingshot.
“He's not going to make it, there's no way,” Carol told the little girl what Nami was thinking.
She waited with bated breath. The bell still rang loud as her heart beat. The breeze ruffled her hair as Ussop stared at the weathervane; she held her breath as she waited for him to realize the shot. Finally after what felt like years he let go. The whale didn't move, it just continued its gentle rocking movement.
“you…missed,” Was this the end of Usopp's journey? Was there anything she could do to stop it?
“Papa no! No! You can't kill him, please you can't!” Carol sobbed into her father's coat, oh how Nami wanted to do the same.
“I can't kill him,” Nami looked at the man, who looked shocked. “He didn't miss, he shot right through the crown!” Nami pulled out her spyglass and preen threw it, and right in the center of the crown was a hole.
“Usopp you did it! I can't believe you actually did it! You shot thru the crown like he said!” How he could see that well she had no idea.
“Wow! Good job!” Carol congratulated Usopp who sank to the ground in clear disbelief and probably relief at not being killed.
“Your as good of a shot as your father, and brave as he is as well. Your father would be proud to call you his son. Go to GrandLine and find him, he deserves to see what his son has become,” Nami had to admit the more she heard about this guy Yasopp the more curious she became.
“You're a pretty good shot after allfor an old man,” Carol had a pair of goggles in her hands as she gave them to him.
They said their goodbyes and headed off. Usopp stood back up the goggles in his hand.
“When people say Daddy the parent is nothing but a disgraced Marine, we'll know the truth, the real story.”
“I will find my father one day! I will show him what a true warrior of the sea I have become! Until that day comes, I have to do my best!”

❛ are you going to leave me again?
i’m starting to think you like wasting my time. ❜
just breathe through it. it gets easier.
I hope you don't mind dnd blorbos bc my girl lorna is occupying my brain rn lol
"Are you going to leave me again?"
Lorna stopped pouring the pot of tea, staring down at the amber liquid for a moment before turning around. Her mother stared at her with one raised brow sat amongst the many boxes still left packed.
"Well, not for a while I don't think. They're still working through the reassignment, so I'm not planning on going anywhere for the foreseeable future."
"Good, good."
She brought the tray into the new living room, now open, not cramped and old. Riddled with mold and a foundation not fit for anyone to live in. A swell of pride filled Lorna, bringing a small smile to her face.
"It's a big change isn't it? Surveying like that. Especially going from where you were. I don't understand why they couldn't give you another job like that, I'm sure the House has something."
There was an undertone that Lorna didn't know how to address. Truthfully she didn't know the answer herself. The job in Natsu went fine, she made the changes to the city layout as asked. The improvements were beneficial to the longevity of Urumatsu.
The Baron's comments definitely seemed unwarranted. She hadn't done anything wrong, at least not in her estimations.
But the work was good enough to finally buy this house, move her parents out of that crumbling shack and somewhere safe. Somewhere that had enough room for Dad's wheelchair and then some.
"I don't know, I think it's a little exciting," Lorna replied, sipping at her tea, "I'll get to see all over Sakana, and who knows, I might take up some other work in my spare time. Might be an adventurer! "
That got a laugh, her mom nearly spitting out her tea.
"Honey, I love you, but I think you'd find that all a bit overwhelming. I know you've always preferred the quiet types. Mercs are loud."
"Like you were?"
"Are, just because I've got some parts missing doesn't mean I can't still swing a sword."
"But you don't have to," Lorna set down her cup, "I'll make more than enough that you and Dad don't have to worry about that sort of thing. It'll be different, but I'll send letters! And I'll visit when I can."
"I know sweetie," Marin kissed the top of her forehead, where the crown of obsidian glass poked just above Lorna's hair, out of its usual bun, "I just worry about you. It's a mother's job. You shouldn't have to take on all this. You've got your own life ahead of you."
Lorna smiled, still resolved to work her hardest.
Whatever her Mother's feelings about the House of Eternity, she was going to help people.
With that, her mother finished up the last of the tea, cracking her neck and rolling her shoulders and arm. Looking around at the chaotic mess that promised a future home.
"Now help me get some of these down. I may be strong, but I've only got enough arm space for half the stuff I used to carry. How about you float some of them."
"Mother, I study divination, not enchantment."
"Well looks like you'll have to lift something other than books for once, Lor. Think you can handle it?"
Probably not.
"I'll try."
