I just read the first part of "I've got you," and it's so good@ im really excited for where you're going to take it! I don't see a lot of fics exploring the relationship between families often (especially with Coral Island but there's not much content made about that right now anyways, so maybe we'll get more eventually!) but I really like to see how other people portray the family life of characters that we don't get a lot of info about! the Sanchez family seems to have a good bit of angst to dive into as well, and despite knowing it will break my heart, I can't wait to see more! I already teared up a bit just from the chapter you wrote already, you managed to give a lot of depth to their situation (pablo unintentionally hurting rafaels feelings but only bc he just wants to enjoy his life before he has to settle down with a job, and rafael quietly watching as his parents barely acknowledge his existence while fawning over his brother) and I love it a lot! sorry if this doesn't make much sense, not great at putting my thoughts into words! but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it so far haha

omg thank you so much!! this literally just made my day 😭😭 i appreciate it!! ive definitely seen that there are not a lot of fics/content about coral island in terms of families or npcs without tying it back to shipping with the farmer, so i really wanted to explore some of that stuff and im excited to do so with this fic. the sanchez family is definitely my favorite, and ive got sooo many ideas for them!! i could probably make a few full posts just with all my headcanons about them all haha. i think the dynamic between pablo and rafael is super interesting; it's very obvious that pablo loves his brother and vice versa, but he tends to be blinded by his wants over considering rafael's, which is something we even get to see in his heart events. it's like, i like this thing, shouldn't everyone? there's no ill intent, but it happens anyway, and rafael seems like the type to really struggle voicing his frustrations especially as a kid growing up in a household where he's never the priority.

anddd golden child blindness...im sorry, i love pablo but i definitely feel like he would not comprehend just how much his parents favor him growing up. i mean, even in the game he excuses them misspelling rafael's name in their letter as just a little mistake. like hello??😭😭 thats your son how to you mispell his name YOU named him 😭😭

literally nothing changes!! the relationship is the exact same LMAO. he's the most chivalrous guy around–of course nothing is going to change. he still serenades you and takes you out on his boat and loves you like nothing else in the world.

KIDDING but yeah he's pretty unfamiliar with it. he's a little confused at first but he's totally respectful about it–maybe the two of you sit down and he asks a few questions so that he can make sure that he understands

when he does understand, you're a little worried that he will have some sort of problem with it. pablo is known for being a romantic, after all, and he's not exactly shy about intimacy. but you'd be wrong! he doesn't have a problem with it at all. maybe it's an adjustment to his mindset at first, but at the end of the day he treats it the same as he would treat any other boundary. if you tell him that you're not interested, then he won't ever even dream of pushing

if anything, he's a little concerned if he's ever overstepprd by accident. he's definitely relieved if you tell him he hasn't

besides, he loves you for more than your body. sure he thinks you're attractive–i mean, he literally introduces himself alongside calling you cute. but as he's gotten to know you, he loves so much more than that. he loves your mind and your sense of humor and your wit–he loves the smile on your face when you tell him about something you like, he loves the sound of your voice. you're one of the best things to ever happen to him. why would it matter to him if sex is off the table, so long as he gets to keep you in his life?

Rafael

literally as soon as you tell him he just pulls you into a hug like “thank you for trusting me enough to tell me”

he's a little emotional about you trusting to tell him, and he asks a few questions just to make sure he understands everything alright. he's totally fine with it when you get into a relationship, though! he would never dream of initiating anything sexual without explicit interest on both sides, anyway, and he has no interest in pushing you into anything you're not comfortable with. i mean, this guy probably takes ages to even get comfortable /hugging/ you without having to triple check that you're cool with it–he’s not gonna have a problem here lol

he's much happier just laying in bed reading together anyway

overall relationship is the same, just as sweet as ever <3

Kenny

he could not care less!!

to be clear, he's totally respectful of your preferences and your boundaries. if you aren't into sex, then that's fine by him. he's attracted to you for more than that–he loves being around you, he loves talking to you, he loves surprising each other with gifts or spending afternoons tending the animals together or dining by the lake. he wouldn't ever even dream about pressuring you into sleeping together anyway, so if you tell him that you're asexual, that won't change anything.

to be honest, i also headcanon kenny as ace or at least aspec, so to a degree he also just understands how you feel!

really, nothing will change in how you guys are. the only difference is that now he knows. he still just as sweet and affectionate as ever :)

Sick Farmer

theo gives me the vibes of someone who would have some weird family remedy for every sickness that he swears by even if it's the strangest thing. so he's definitely going to show up at your house like “listen farmer i know this sounds crazy but i swear it works–”

nine times out of ten it does not work

but it's the thought that counts <3

he isn't afraid of getting sick since he's got a rock solid immune system, so he's definitely coming over to spend time with you. he makes you fresh food, he cuddles with you, the whole nine yards.

PLUS he'll serenade you. 100% he's serenading you. who needs spotify, you've got this guy hanging around your house willing to play you whatever you want at a moment’s notice

he's the kind of guy that's gonna get nervous every time you cough too hard though, so you better believe he's keeping you medicine stocked and probably crashing at your place at least a few nights out of the time you're sick. you've gotta chase him out with a broom to get him to stop worrying about you

Pablo

ok as ive said before pablo is the best at taking care of loved ones when he's sick

he's had tons of practice being an older brother, after all! especially because he is the one who gets other people sick 99% of the time since he refuses to rest or stop his daily activities when he's sick lol

he will definitely insist that /you/ rest, though. he'll get rafael to cover the shop for him and he'll come over to spend the day at the farm with you. he's kind of clueless at agriculture but yk he'll do his best to get some chores done for you so that you aren't stressing. he will pretty much force you to stay in bed or at least off your feet, so if he has to gather some vegetables or feed a few animals to get you to relax then he'll do it

he cannot cook to save his life so unfortunately you're just getting microwaveable chicken soup, but it's the thought that counts

he has no fear of getting sick so he'll probably insist on spending the day cuddling and watching reruns of your favorite shows

he's definitely catching whatever you have though, and you're gonna have to return the favor to him in a week lmao

Rafael

he's very good at recognizing when people are sick–he lives with pablo after all, and pablo is the king of denial when he's sick–so he probably notices you're coming down with something before you do.

he's straight to mother hen mode. bedrest and blankets, checking your temperature, making you homemade soup–the whole nine yards. he'll get pablo to run the shop for a little while so that he can come down and hang out with you. he'll show up with an armful of his favorite old horror movies to show you, plus a few books the two of you can read. being as introverted as he is he's perfectly content to come up with stuff that the two of you can do without putting any strain on you.

he gives me the vibes of someone who is very good when it comes to sick food. he's always got something warm waiting for you when you get hungry! soup or cookies or whatever. and if you're like stomach sick then he's more than happy to buy you all the crackers and ginger ale you could eat

he's also perfectly happy to let you sleep, whether that means going out to run errands for you or just getting housework done for you

he'll probably cave and let you cuddle with him, even if he really doesn't want to get sick lol. if he does catch it, he's a good sport about it though

Kenny

ok he's both the best and also the worst when you're sick

he's bummed for you because he knows how much /he/ hates being sick–it takes him away from everything that he enjoys and makes him miserable every time. he's also bummed that he has no company for his time outside every day

so while he does feel sorry for you, he does /not/ want to risk catching whatever you've got. and you don't want to give it to him, considering how miserable he gets whenever he has so much as a cold. suffice to say no sick cuddles with him lol

he'll definitely come by the farm every day and handle your chores. this guy grew up on a ranch; how different can farming be? your animals are definitely getting spoiled by him for as long as you're sick, and even a little after, though that's nothing new. he also handles all of the planting, the harvesting, the watering, the shipping–whatever you need done! you crack your window and chat with him while he works. he definitely won't let you come out to help, but he's happy to talk and keep you company even if it's from outside

he'll also bring you food :) and probably other little treats too, because he feels bad not being able to be affectionate with you

anything unrequited love absolutely breaks my heart with this man because somehow i feel like it's more likely with him

like. okay. i have a lot of thoughts about pablo altogether but

he falls for you fast. he's a flirty guy by nature, but he's a real romantic at heart and realizes pretty quickly into your friendship he realizes that the feelings he holds for you are more than platonic.

you start frequenting the shop more, stopping by to say hello to the two of them every day. he takes that as a sign that you're into him, too. it's exciting! he starts finding little things to gift you when you stop by, inviting you to listen to music with him, slipping sly little questions like hypotheticals about your perfect date or the things you like. he's really giving it his all, because he thinks you like him, too! and he's happy–even rafael notices a certain pep in his step that wasn't there before, a certain light to his smile.

he even tells rafael that he's got his eye on someone! and rafael tells him the same, that he's starting to develop feelings for someone, and pablo is so happy for him because finally his brother is getting out there! they joke about ending up with lovers at the same time. neither of them are specific enough to make the connection that they're talking about the same person.

of course, he doesn't know that the reason you're stopping by so frequently isn't for him. it's for his brother. but rafael isn't talking to him about it in detail because raf is shy and doesn't know how to address that kind of stuff, and pablo is too in his own head to catch the way your gaze lingers on rafael or the sheer amount of time the two of you spend hanging around the lake or his room together. pablo has never been the most observant of the two, after all.

he hypes himself up one summer afternoon to finally ask you out. it's a whole thing; he buys flowers, books a reservation at the tavern, plans an outfit for the night in question. everything is perfect. all he has to do is pop the question.

you happen to be over that day. you're hanging out in the living room with rafael. pablo gets himself ready, prepares how he'll ask, everything, and walks down to the room with the utmost confidence and excitement sending his heart racing–

–only to find you and rafael sitting there together. the golden afternoon light shines through open windows to illuminate the scene that stops him dead in his tracks in the doorway.

you're practically on rafael's lap, and even from the doorway he can see just how red your faces are, how close your lips are to rafael's. neither of you notice him.

he stands there for a moment. it hits him all at once what's been going on, and he's never felt as stupid as he does in that moment. he doesn't make a sound, doesn't draw attention to himself, just turns and leaves.

as soon as he's back into his room he breaks down though. he can't help it. he doesn't blame you and he doesn't blame rafael; if anything, he blames himself for somehow managing to misinterpret things that badly. he really thought the two of you had something.

he stays in his room the rest of that day (a sunday, luckily, so he doesn't have to worry about work). when he does come out to work the next day, he acts as normal as he can. he won't ever bring it up to either of you (unless it's waaaay down the line as a bit of a self-deprecating joke lol).

he'll move past it, though. it hurts to see you sometimes, but he's nothing if not good at putting on a smile, and he'll get through it. he'll still let rafael talk about his feelings, he'll support the two of you when you get together. he really is happy that his little brother found love, and if it's going to be anyone he's glad it's someone like you. his own feelings will just stay a bitter thought in the back of his mind. kind of hard to avoid reminders when they live with you lol

she isn't as forward in terms of her feelings. the two of you grow close from proximity, with you stopping by frequently to say hello to her or alice or valentina. she notices you fishing a lot around the docks and starts to make a habit of going out to chat with you then, too, until the two of you can comfortably consider one another friends.

she doesn't want to fall in love. she's focusing on herself in the aftermath of her divorce, trying to put her life back into her own hands and putting all of her attention on her work and her daughter. she really doesn't have the time to deal with romance on top of that. but feelings don't ask permission, and before she knows it she finds herself in deep.

every time you laugh, she has to avert her gaze to hide the blush. every time you smile at her butterflies erupt in her stomach. she feels giddy and excited in a way she hasn't in a long time, and she isn't as opposed to it as she thought she would be. she's hesitant to confide in anyone, but her sister notices a change in demeanor. even valentina sees how often you're hanging around and how happy her mom is.

she doesn't know if she'll ask you out. she wants to, kind of, but she's also enjoying the feeling of being in love–that giddy rush of butterflies so closely associated with her youth, with times that were infinitely easier. she cherishes it. the thought of making the move to break that peace, even in exchange for something better, is scary. especially after the failure of her last relationship. it's kind of scary.

that is, until one sunday, when you show up to their family dinner with the sanchez brothers. at first, she is confused. she likes you, but she didn't invite you to this particular meal, and alice wouldn't have without checking first.

rafael goes into the kitchen to start cooking something, and you follow. after a minute she decides to go in and help. when she steps foot into the kitchen, suddenly your arrival makes perfect sense.

she arrives just in time to see you pressing a gentle kiss to rafael's cheek. he leans back against the counter and you lean against him, a lazy smile on your face, and suddenly it makes so much sense. of course you would fall for him. of course you came as his date. of course. she feels so stupid. she doesn't say anything, doesn't complain, just turns and walks quietly back out to the living room to watch cartoons with valentina.

her mind is a whirlwind. she barely keeps herself from crying through dinner, but it quickly levels out to frustrated resignation. she told herself she wouldn't think about romance, you made her fail that promise, and now she's right back where she was before: heartbroken and tired. it hurts. she won't say anything, won't comment or complain when rafael announces that the two of you are a couple during dinner, just puts on a weary smile and tries to be happy for the two of you.

the two of you will stay friends, but it might take her a few days to adjust. she won't get over it for a while, but she's talented enough at keeping her feelings to herself to not let them slip, no matter how much it pains her to see.

Thanks for asking more about Caelan! I'm happy to share some more about him and his story.

So his parents are not great people. They treated him badly in childhood and his grandparents were his safe haven. His parents are the kind of people who may or may not work for Pufferfish 👀 But they are 100% the kind of people to not care about destroying peoples homes. His father is very aware of the place his own parents loved and called home for a time and is absolutely aware of the troubles the island has had.

The experience left him with self esteem issues and feelings of not being good enough. He worries he has badness running through him because of them. He never talks about his parents so nobody knows he's their son, but he's always talking about his grandparents. His reason for this is terrible bullying as a kid because of who his parents were. He's used to being hated and the feelings it left behind never went away completely.

I think Mark will be his guy. I feel like the two of them could have an interesting relationship and I honestly feel like being with each other would bring out the protective streak in both. Caelan could definitely do with that.

With Mark I feel like he could be totally open about all the pain he's felt in his life. I also feel like he can talk about how dark his thoughts got at one point in time when he found himself alone.

He might also share his wish to name his future children after the grandparents who meant so much to him.

And yes, he would love to have all the kids follow him around. He's 100% the person who'd want to volunteer at the school and talk about farming or the way he helped clear the ocean.

ooh this is all very cool! it's clear you've put a ton of thought into his character and how his backstory reflects in it, so kudos on that! and the relationship between him and mark would work so well <3 i love that they would bring out good parts of one another and also just the idea of the two of them as dads is just very sweet

Suuuiup. I'm here to talk about my farmer OC. Her name is Penelope (lol)

I gave her some back story which summed up her parents suck, her grandparents are the bomb, she had a brother. There was a BAD couple of years. The grandparents sold the farm during said bad years but would come back to Coral island once in awhile for vacation.

Penelope looooooved visiting her grandparents farm when she was wee. When her grandparents took her in they had a garden. She's kind of spacey and sometimes just says all her thoughts out loud and then immediately regrets it.

She likes to bake and watch movies and take naps on the beach. Pumpkin pie is her favourite food. She loves living on the farm because it's so dang quiet. She adores Rafael and I'm currently writing a fic about her 😋

I don’t have the game yet but I have my farmer thought out! My farmers name is Ursula. Once a famous model for an exclusive magazine that focuses on natural beauty with no air brushing or touching up, she has since retired to her old grandparents estate to be free from paparazzi and from the city elite life. She’s short and very curvy but loves working with her hands and thinks it will be a positive retirement. And doesn’t hurt that the tall blacksmith is especially fetching to look at 👀👀👀 I just can’t wait for it to come to the Switch so I can finally play! It looks so good!

ooh i love this!! the retired model backstory is very creative, and it would be fun to see her journey transitioning from the busy city life to a quiet one in starlet town! and top tier love interest 😌 i myself am biased there as well 🤣
