sometimes I forget how painful sanjis initial backstory is.. a kid so young experiencing starvation. carrying so much physical and mental effects from it. not to mention the isolation and loneliness he experienced as he sat alone watching the shore everyday. and the whole thing with zeff...

It's been more than 20 years and for some reason I feel that Gosho hasn't given Kaiao any development, how can more than 20 years pass and Aoko dynamics, relationship and feelings remain the same? At this point I feel like Gosho is just going to make them date because "they already liked each other" they remain in the same status quo

Hey, if we go by DC romance progress, they've been going too fast. We've already had suspicion of identity chapters, and that didn't happen until more than 400 chapters in DC. /j

Since heists have taken over any character development recently, I don't even know if Kaito and Aoko will even get any romantic progress. Maybe the actual identity confrontation will happen down the line, since that's thief drama, but atm, it really wouldn't surprise me if they only ask each other on a real date at the very end of the manga.

Like. I'm sure Gosho would love to make MK a love drama as well, but he writes MK so rarely, and usually as hype for something Kid related in other media. So the MK stories tend to be heavy on drama that can only take place at Kid heists. (To the point that the new chapters just. Use Kid as the plot device to show off a new character. Even Hakuba's never gotten so much 'look at this character being a detective' treatment in MK.)

-sighs- I just feel bad for MK as a series at this point. I like the characters, I like the general story idea, but. It's been going down a very steep hill with Gosho wanting things exciting, but not wanting any real progress in. Anything. But unlike old MK, the new stories aren't even nice standalone setpieces of story, they're... mundane. They could be high stakes, if you purely look at the scenarios on paper, but. We all know nothing's gonna happen to Kid. Nothing even happens to him when the actual bad guys show up, much less one-time antagonists.

We need actual character focus and development, not heist drama. Badly. Not even romance, though that'd be a nice change. Just any character expansion of our limited cast of characters. Gosho wants big, all the time, meaningless big stuff, when small would be so nice.

Foolish and Cellbit lore makes me crazy because their characters are very much influenced by the entities they each have chosen, and it comes in to play in key moments. It influences their desires and their actions significantly.

Foolish, who makes sacrifices to the Chaos entity constantly. Who is his usual silly, impulsive self, and then takes it a step further, thinking ‘what would Chaos enjoy?’ Not looking twice before jumping, living and thriving in chaos and unpredictability, even if it is at the cost of his health and well-being. Especially if it’s at the cost of others. He tries to play each side of the conflict, sometimes for whatever will benefit him directly, the rest of the time just by seemingly flipping a coin and going one way or the other for shits and giggles. He starts conflicts and he fans the flames because he wants to see the fallout. He leans into the chaos without a second thought.

Cellbit, who’s a little more subtle, but the effects are still there. He cannot find a single thread on the island without having to find the other end. He takes on the problems and mysteries of everyone else on top of his own. He keeps back to eavesdrop at any opportunity when he says he’s leaving a conversation. He digs his grave as a double agent in the federation, not only to sabotage, but because he cannot stand the idea of a mystery being out there that he can’t figure out. It costs his sanity, it costs his time, it gives him gray hair and puts him in constant danger, it piles on so much work and responsibility on him, it’s a large part of why he feels so alone on the island - and yet he wouldn’t have it any other way. Because who else would know what to do in the face of such puzzles?

The knowledge entity pushes Cellbit to seek that knowledge, damn the cost. His biggest weakness is that he cannot let anything lie - he has to solve whatever is put in front of him, because he has to know, it doesn’t matter what or why in some cases. Just as Foolish is always pushed to leave things to chance, because the unpredictability is exciting, enticing - even when the answer to a problem is obvious and he could easily take action to get the best known outcome.

there aren’t any immediate "red flags" that make me back away entirely, but there are certain things that tend to make me a bit wary when i come across them. i want to clarify that this isn’t intended to sound rude, mean, or petty - it’s just something i’ve noticed. before diving into this, i should also mention that it’s not exactly a red flag and it’s more of a pet peeve, something that catches my attention and makes me pause rather than outright deterring me.

the topic of female muses and the hypocrisy surrounding them. to start, i completely understand what it feels like to have your muse overlooked or pushed aside simply because you write a female character. it’s frustrating to pour so much effort into developing your character - her backstory, personality, and the overall world around her - only for people to ignore all of that in favor of interacting with male muses. it’s an issue many of us are familiar with, so i don’t need to elaborate too much on how this typically plays out. 

while i wholeheartedly agree that this behavior is both irritating and occasionally problematic, there are a few related issues that i find even more aggravating. first and foremost, the hypocrisy of those who advocate for better treatment of female muses but seem to only care when it’s their own. it’s disheartening to see someone preaching about how female characters deserve attention and effort, only to notice that their blog is almost exclusively filled with mxm interactions. moreover, i find it especially baffling when a female muse is written exclusively to interact with male characters. to me, it seems contradictory to advocate for female muses deserving more attention while not engaging with other female muses yourself. that inconsistency makes me less inclined to engage or follow first. 

second, i don’t entirely agree with the claim that there’s a "severe lack" of female muses in the community. sure, there might be fewer compared to male muses, but it’s not an extreme shortage. you don’t have to scour the ends of the earth to find others writing female characters. it’s more about whether people are genuinely interested in interacting with them. 

lastly, i find it baffling when people essentially lie about their interest in writing with female muses. if you’re not interested in shipping with female characters, that’s fine - just be upfront about it. it’s entirely valid to have a muse who isn’t romantically inclined toward women. but romance isn’t the only dynamic that exists. if you’re uninterested in other types of interactions with female muses, then perhaps it’s worth reflecting on why you feel that way rather than stringing writers along.

as a bit of an add-on to this rant-like thought, i want to say that it’s perfectly fine to have gripes with a muse or a specific portrayal as long as the issue isn’t rooted in the fact that the character is a woman. there are poorly written female muses out there, just as there are poorly written male ones. that’s simply a fact of writing in any community. however, if your problem with a muse stems solely from the fact that they’re a woman, that’s something i can neither condone nor even begin to understand.

ahem. and if i may be completely unwell about the moose and slug for a moment,

i keep thinking about a post-story scene where lumpus and slinkman's relationship is still in rocky territory, and they have like... kind of a half-arguement getting ready for bed and it doesn't really go anywhere but there's still a tension in the air, and then a moment of silence as they settle and face each other in the dark. there's a beat. and then slinkman just... reaches over to take lumpus' glasses off (he'd always been in the habit of adjusting them over the years), and he's confused for a second, and slinkman's just like "you shouldn't sleep with those on. you're going to break them" which is like, ah, yes, completely logical action, and something he's told him a million times,

but it's Also like "Oh, God. even when you don't have to anymore, and you said you'd stop doing it all the time, and you're mad at me, you're still taking care of me just because you care enough to that it's complete subconscious instinct for you to do so. i'm gonna jump off a cliff"

because, when you're in the dark, in complete silence, sharing a shoddy pull-out couch bed in the basement of your stupid hand-me-down bait-and-tackle shop with your life-long best friend, your only friend, almost a bit like you used to when you'd push your beds closer together at night the camp you loved all those years ago, well, then there's also nothing else around to distract from the fact that you appreciate that more than anything in the entire world

and so lumpus takes a second and is like ....Right. (voice crack) Of course. and turns to face the ceiling and feels like he's going to be sick <- (i love nausea being one of lumpus' gut responses to feeling things ❤️)
