Stan's Twin Theory
Hey, this is a new blog dedicated to Gravity Falls, and specifically to theories about Gravity Falls. We have some interesting (possibly far-fetched) theories. This is one of them.
Stan’s Twin Theory:
Stan has to have a brother (although not necessarily a twin), because he’s Dipper and Mabel’s Great-Uncle, and they all share the same last name, therefore he must have a brother. However, we believe he has a twin. Here’s why:
twins are genetic (and the gene can skip generations)
There are some pieces of evidence found in the show that supports our claim
We also believe that Stan’s twin may be the Author. Here’s why:
1. The Hiding Spot
Look, a hole in the ground
In Tourist Trapped, Dipper found the 3rd book in the forest near the Mystery Shack. This may seem like a stretch, but think about it! where would you hide something important that you might want to access easily? By your house.
Gideon’s factory
In The Hand that Rocks the Mabel it is shown that Gideon’s family factory is located on Gopher Road, the same street as the Mystery Shack.
The Mystery Shack’s address via the Deed is 618 Gopher Road.
This could explain how Gideon found the 2nd Journal.
And it’s interesting to note that Gideon was searching for the 1st Journal at the Mystery Shack.
Possible hiding spots
There are possible hiding spots listed in the 2nd Journal, they seem to be located around a building similar to the Mystery Shack.
2. The Bunker
The Bunker is located underground, in the forest near the Mystery Shack.
There is a sign on the wall of the bunker that says that it is a nuclear fallout shelter. Now, where would you build a fallout shelter? Near your house of course! During times of bomb scares people would build fallout shelters in their backyard.
And since the Author did experiments in the bunker and was observing a shapeshifter, it would be more convenient for him to have the bunker close to the place where he lived.
3. The Glasses
In Carpet Diem, a secret room is discovered in the Mystery Shack, and Stan finds a pair of glasses.
Stan finds the glasses
Later he is seen staring at the glasses, and he frowns at them in both scenes.
Stan contemplating the glasses
This could possibly represent an old memory of a friend or *cough* brother. It is obvious that someone lived in that room at some point, so why would Stan want to cover it up?
!!!
In Dreamscapers, it is shown in the 2nd Journal that the Author was surprised to see glasses on the Bill Cipher wheel, possibly because those are his glasses.Take a look at the glasses, they are similar to the ones found in the secret room.
We don’t think these are Stan’s glasses because his glasses are square with rims at the bottom, while the glasses found in the room and on the wheel don’t have rims at the bottom and are rounded.
Also in Dreamscapers, is a flash back of Stan when he was just a wee lad.
Notice his glasses are square and have rims at the bottom.
Here is Stan a little bit older. Notice that he still has square rimmed glasses.
But, in The Time Traveler's Pig, a younger “Stan” is shown with round glasses without rims at the bottom. His glasses look exactly like the one’s found in the secret room.
Is this really Stan?
Also, this “Stan” has a cleft chin, whereas we have never ever once seen Stan with a cleft chin (not even in flashbacks).
4. The Calender
Another small point: the calendar in the secret room has the date July 4, 1982 circled. It can be assumed that 1982 is the year the room was abandoned.
The room definitely looks like it hasn’t been touched since the 80’s
However, in the Author’s bunker, there is a calendar on the wall. Guess what year is on the calendar. 1982.
The calendar in the Mystery Shack and the calendar in the Author’s Bunker are from the same year, 1982.
This suggests that both the room in the Shack and the Bunker were abandoned around the same time.
5. Wrestling Match Flashback
In a brief scene in Stan’s flashback in Dreamscapers, we see young Stan at a wrestling match. There is a kid reading a book in the stands that looks very similar to child Stan, he even seems to be wearing the same clothing.
Could this be Stan’s twin?
6. The Swing-set
In Dreamscapers, Stan’s mindscape is very creepy. One notable object in Stan’s mind is a dilapidated swing-set. This is the stuff of horror movies.
Good times
Since we can assume everything in the mind is a symbol of a significant part of Stan’s life, then this swing-set is very telling. It likely symbolizes a broken childhood. Since it is a two swing swing-set, it could symbolize another person, likely from Stan’s childhood. A close friend… or sibling…
The fact that only one of the swings is broken is also interesting. In Into the Bunker, the Shapeshifter states that the Author “hasn’t been himself in 30 years” suggesting that he probably went crazy.
…
Are all these merely coincidences? Maybe… But this is Gravity Falls we’re talking about. This show is filled with foreshadowing, plot twists, and secrets. There is just no way that all of this could be a coincidence.
So, what do you think? Is this a stretch? Or are we on to something? Feel free to comment with your own theories. The more the merrier! :)

i’m not making a moral judgment about him here but, john mulaney had to rebuild his comedic persona after his relapse and it’s impressive that he pulled it off. part of being a stand up comedian is creating a character version of yourself that you can build jokes around, which is why in his old work he made a lot of jokes about being just a little guy. obviously that material doesn’t land the same anymore for a lot of people so he had to adjust his act and that’s a big undertaking

i got too drunk and then too hungover that i wrote 3 poems . An opera in 3 parts.
the first, a hungover ballad
i long for the cold embrace
of neon lights. the blur of the bar
i am covered in tinfoil,
my brain fizzing in the microwave
the cocophony of sounds inside this
burrito n shake blaring as my insides swirl
into the whirlpool of my own design
the second, the pain hitting
my bones are splintering, peeling like
bark now oozing life
such a sickly thing
fractals along the veins like ice on a lake,
cascading into tectonic plates,
creating new lines under my skin.
joints screaming not in pain but as a
child frightened by the dark.
head heavy, unsupported as i fall
through the candle of my own creation.
fingers swinging on the ball and socket
without intended extension.
paralysis to engulf me just as dark
abyss welcomed pirates all the same.
some fighting, some banished,
some doing nothing of the sort.
it beckons us all, we are sillohutes till
the fall where we become one and the same.
but this is no final refrain,
do not sing a lamert for me.
my claws sink heavy into the earth
as they are want to do to me.
my arms will swim as i close my eyes
to sleep once again.
the third, a ghost rearing its ugly head
an onion skin of us lays over my eyes like an old contact
an itch that i cant will myself to scratch.
for in these tears i didn’t shed, it’s only place i can see
the laughs we shared on filtered layers shifting behind new memories
ones without the history we shared.
ones filled with similar light and plight
to the ones i saw with these same eyes.
they betray me by looking for you in the crowds you once lived in,
the ones you longed for and now go without.
are you starving for it or does it sour in your mouth
and one day you will be washed away in the rain like history gone by
but today the cracks in my wall share your name
in swirls of pretty calligraphy.
leaving me now screaming at the shadow your ghost casts,
words i can only feel that are too cruel to articulate
without compromising the idea of me i built in your wake.
the idea you take credit for, are you kidding?
you claim u modelled me yet you find fault in my design.
my love too overbearing yet you could not survive out in the cold.
if we are molded by the hands that find us then who am i if not your muse.
you poke holes in my ambition like i am a well you wish to take down a peg.
You wore me down till i was half my size and you could tower over me.
yet you rewrite the history, amend the archives to make yourself the victim.
i feel the sickness that followed me when i left you there,
clinging on to what i knew was fleeting.
my name in whispers on the wind
but in these cobblestones i follow the waltz back home.

I’m watching that documentary “Before Stonewall” about gay history pre-1969, and uncovered something which I think is interesting.
The documentary includes a brief clip of a 1954 televised newscast about the rise of homosexuality. The host of the program interviewed psychologists, a police officer, and one “known homosexual”. The “known homosexual” is 22 years old. He identifies himself as Curtis White, which is a pseudonym; his name is actually Dale Olson.
So I tracked down the newscast. According to what I can find, Dale Olson may have been the first gay man to appear openly on television and defend his sexual orientation. He explains that there’s nothing wrong with him mentally and he’s never been arrested. When asked whether he’d take a cure if it existed, he says no. When asked whether his family knows he’s gay, he says that they didn’t up until tonight, but he guesses they’re going to find out, and he’ll probably be fired from his job as well. So of course the host is like …why are you doing this interview then? and Dale Olson, cool as cucumber pie, says “I think that this way I can be a little useful to someone besides myself.”
1954. 22 years old. Balls of pure titanium.
Despite the pseudonym, Dale’s boss did indeed recognize him from the TV program, and he was promptly fired the next day. He wrote into ONE magazine six months later to reassure readers that he had gotten a new job at a higher salary.
Curious about what became of him, I looked into his life a little further. It turns out that he ultimately became a very successful publicity agent. He promoted the Rocky movies and Superman. Not only that, but get this: Dale represented Rock Hudson, and he was the person who convinced him to disclose that he had AIDS! He wrote the statement Rock read. And as we know, Rock Hudson’s disclosure had a very significant effect on the national conversation about AIDS in the U.S.
It appears that no one has made the connection between Dale Olson the publicity agent instrumental in the AIDS debate and Dale Olson the 22-year-old first openly gay man on TV. So I thought I’d make it. For Pride month, an unsung gay hero.

i just started hannibal a bit ago and i'm already so obsessed with it, i love that they hired will just because he seemed like a bit of a freak and i love that every crime scene he shows up he's like hi i'm will graham and this is my psychiatrist who follows me everywhere and gives me evil therapy and is also obsessed with me. the johnathan sims vibes on this man are immaculate, the wettest of cats, a little guy who likes to monologue in the horrors and so so feral, he has my heart forever 🍽️
i don't know what's going on most of the time in this show but i really like it 👍👍

yk what’s really interesting about the whole rage subplot in fhsy: The Bad Kids are getting angrier.
Like we can sort of gather that the students of aguefprt are getting angrier, like even if we don’t know exactly what’s going on with the whole rage crystals and stuff, like clearly something is happening. But it’s fascinating seeing it manifest unconsciously in the bad kids. Like Adaine is so angry about ol 4 dogs as well as how shitting the wizard classes are for poorer students (so fair of her). Gorgug of course has dealt with his rage in a massive way. Riz not generally angry but did get genuinely angry at the min max of it all. Kristen is also being confronted with not only a direct foil to herself but also someone exterting power over her brother.
And like rage doesn’t necessarily have to manifest in anger like anger and depression is side by side and like Fabian is so sad and so stressed and like should be angry at his mum for ignoring him like to me that’s what Brennan is trying to get out of him.
Like Rage as an idea is oddly unifying for them all as well as their deep love for each other

this doesnt seem like a popular opinion on here but sometimes i like when characters die. sometimes its needed to raise the stakes and sometimes its the end best befitting of the character and sometimes its needed to move the narrative forward and sometimes its the only way a character would believably leave their story behind and sometimes it just spices things up a bit. sometimes its fun to watch characters die . sorry
