Do you have any recommendations for good places to start reading Aquaman comics? I read Aquaman: The Becoming recently and really enjoyed it. I’ll probably read Aquamen next and I’d like to dive in deeper to the aquafam lore, especially for Mera, but as it is in comics, there’s a lot of it 😅
Okeydokey! So in my recent Aquaman read-through, I just read thru all of the Aquaman solo titles (Well I'm still on Rebirth), but :P I recognize that's not what everyone likes so :P My favorite Aquaman comics based on Mera Content:
Death of a Prince: This TPB has both some diving into Garth and Mera lore. after the infamous [spoilers if you've somehow missed hearing them] Mera goes to her home dimension (at this time called Dimension Aqua) in the back-ups of some Aquaman comics, and Garth explores where he came from in some back-ups.
After that Mera doesn't really get any good content until Aquaman #47, 48, 49 (Abnett's 3 issues right after David's run, Mera's Oceanid plotline).
Brightest day is good for Mera content, and Mera is fun characterization but doesn't do much in Geoff Johns new 52 run, and IIRC I enjoyed some of Mera's feats in Parker's run (right after Geoff John's, new 52 run), and then Abnett does some nice stuff in his Rebirth run.
Atlantean lore I prefer the 90s lore associated with the David run, so that does make it complicated... favorite character stuff does not coincide with favorite lore stuff XD David also just flops on pretty much every female character he writes in Aquaman 1994. However it also does introduce some cool character additions to Aquafam (some of whom are sadly forgotten about immediately). Koryak is great but David quickly runs out of ideas on what to do with him.
Lorena Marquez as Aquagirl starts in Sub Diego.
For focus on Atlantean lore I'd suggest The Atlantis Chronicles it kicks ass and dives deep into worldbuilding.
OK condense-ified notes:
Mera: Death of a Prince, Aquaman 1994 #47, 48, 49, Brightest day, Parker's run in New 52 (Can also do Geoff Johns run if you want), Abnett's in Rebirth.
Garth: Death of a Prince, Tempest 4 issue mini
Atlantean lore: The Atlantis Chronicles, David's 1994 Aquaman run (+ Time and TIde) if you can tolerate the way he does female characters here.
Other potentially interesting characters: Koryak (introduced in Aquaman 1994) and Lorena Marquez (introduced in the sub diego plotline of Aquaman 2003)
If you want more recs or like.... comics that are referenced in those comics I can add them I just don't wanna be overwhelming ;P I love all these characters so much

hello, i love your blog! i was wondering, is robin: son of batman a good place to start reading about damian, for someone who pretty much just know the basics about him? i know the actual beginning would be somewhere in morrison's run, but r:sob really catch my attention :p
short-ish answer:
i read Damian’s comic appearances/runs in a bonkers order when i first started, and i think R:SOB was one of the easier places to jump in!! it’s a fairly isolated adventure that encapsulates a lot of what makes Damian as Robin so charming!!
Robin: Son of Batman (2015) #1
Gleason’s pitch for this series was basically “Damian on a journey with a bat dragon as his muscle lol :)” and then proceeded to create a story that puts you through a roller coaster of fun!! and emotion!!
long answer:
there’s a bit of history to some of the characters that appear, but it’s summed up quickly so you’re not totally confused!
but here’s a rundown of references beforehand if you’re interested :]
Maya is a new character introduced in this run! her father, Morgan Ducard, was killed by Damian during the arc “Born to Kill” in Batman and Robin (2011) #1-8 another solid entry point into reading Damian!
Batman and Robin (2011) #8
Talia was killed in the same arc as Damian’s own death in Batman Incorporated (2013) #1-13. after a series of events in which Ra’s steals Talia’s and Damian’s bodies from their graves, Talia is revealed to have revived and now hangs around Nanda Parbat with no memories (Batman and Robin (2011) #29-32, Robin Rises: Omega, Batman and Robin #33-37, Robin Rises: Alpha)
Robin Rises: Alpha
Damian’s clone brothers were made by Ra’s accelerating Talia’s method of growing super-humans. during the chase for Damian and Talia’s stolen bodies, Bruce and Aquaman encounter the clones right as they’re born in Batman and Robin (2011) #29
Aquaman keeps them in his custody until Damian, freshly revived, claims them as family and takes them to Al Ghul island to live freely :’) Batman and Robin (2011) #38
Batman and Robin (2011) #38
#ask#anon#hope this helps!! and it piques your interest in other Damian appearances! ;D#should really do a reading list/summary of his intro stuff…#if possible and you have the patience it’s best to read the trade version of ‘Batman and Son’ for Damian’s Morrison appearance#otherwise feel free to pick up comics that interest you most!! you can go chronologically or fill in the timeline puzzle pieces as you read#anyway. yeah!! read Robin: Son of Batman!! that is THE Damian Robin solo!! that now sits nicely by The Boy Wonder (2024)!!

Superman/Joker & Batman/Lex Luther body swap
I would pay to know how that day went with Lex in Bruce's body. Dick does not look happy to be on babysitting duty. Damian on the other hand...
So I found a copy of the 2011 General Mills sponsored Justice League series (which, as someone who is super into dc comics and cereal advertising, is a lot of fun). But! Issue #9 is a body swap between Superman/the Joker, and Batman/Lex Luther, and it is fantastic. We also get some great Lois moments with Clark and Bruce.
I've read a handful of the other issues and they're definitely worth checking out. They're heartfelt and also just fun team ups that we don't always see like Batman & Aquaman or Wonder Woman & the Flash.
Also the art is fun. Have some fun little guys:
#I think that's Damian anyway#I love the lassoed Clark so much#anyway I was giggling and kicking my feet like a schoolgirl as I read this#it is#just so fun#it won't let me add the link but it's just at readallcomics.com#dc comics#batman#bruce wayne#superman#clark kent#wonder woman#lois lane#dick grayson#damian wayne#justice league#lex luthor#the joker#my rambles#comic recommendations

what comics should i read for roy harper. all of the arrows really but you love him and he’s the blorbo in law… im a batman guy at heart please forgive me
there's a really great carrd that has complete reading guides for every arrowfam member -> arrowfam reading guide
but that can be really overwhelming, plus not all of it is totally relevant. so here's the main complete series to read through that roy consistently appears in. past all this reading, that carrd is a great place to look to fill in gaps with events and one-issue features.
teen titans (1966)
snowbirds don't fly
the new teen titans (1998) - roy doesn't actually appear here until issue 56, but is consistently around after that.
arsenal (1998)
titans (1999)
green arrow (2001)
outsiders (2003)
justice league of america (2007)
titans (2008)
titans (2016)
green arrow (2023)
then the only other series he's a main feature in is rhato and rh/a, which i don't count as relevant reading for him.
but then obviously even if he doesn't appear in them all the time, the solo green arrow runs are core material for him, and everything arrowfam, so they're worth a read too.
so then the main stuff for ollie:
justice league of america (1960)
hard travelling heroes
green arrow (1983)
green arrow (1988)
green arrow (2001)
road to the altar
green arrow/black canary
batman and the outsiders (2007)
green arrow (2010)
green arrow (2011)
green arrow (2016)
aquaman/green arrow: deep target
green arrow (2023)
and really those two lists sum up the main reading material for most arrowfam members, minus dinah.
she obviously has all the birds of prey runs, and then her solos. but apart from that it's mainly a bunch of JLA and green arrow appearances.
connor was in robin (2021) for a while, but then outside of green arrow solos it's mostly GL cameos.
then mia and emiko stick almost ENTIRELY within green arrow and occasionally teen titans.
(also none of this includes stuff from action comics, world's finest, adventure comics etc. a lot of it is outdated, and frankly hard to list. they're all on that carrd though, and there's a lot of good stories there worth reading)
