So one thing Iâve noticed is that peopleâs DnD characters may vary but there is usually an underlying thread that they all have in common. This thread is typically related to what that person struggles with the most.
For instance, my betrotheds DnD characters: a bitchy warlock we had to bust out of two different pacts, a sassy barbarian, a reformed drow cultist, and a sunshine fighter cleric.
All these characters were wildly different but at their very core struggle was them grappling with their self worth. My betrothed struggles with their worth a great deal and even with different facets showing their characters all have that too.
Mine all tend to contend with different themes of loneliness and acceptance. Surprise, surprise, the little autistic gremlin yearns to have been met with more love and lasting friendships.
So weâre at breakfast. I am meeting a new friend of my betrotheds for the first time. Itâs been twenty minutes since Iâve met this man. I say my theory. He laughs. He starts to describe a few of his characters but specifies that he often has healing aspects. He gives a very broad overview of their character arcs.
I ponder for a moment then said, âWould you like to have my assessment?â
He laughed, âSure!â
âWeâve just met. Itâs gonna get real.â
âBring it on.â
âI think your struggle is that you feel you must offer something of value or service to people to be worthy of their love.â
His jaw dropped. His fork froze midway to his mouth. A potato fell. He stared into space as this sank in. Quietly he said, âOh.â
#dnd#ramblies#dungeons and dragons#ffs foibles#he kept repeating it through the rest of the hang out and I got less coherent as I tuckered out but the gist was there#he also mentioned in his dating history how heâd always felt girls heâd dated were moving too fast#and without thinking I laughed and said yeah cause youâre gay and you desperately didnât want those relationships to go anywhere#you just wanted to be loved but not romantically#and he looked shooketh#and I apologized cause I usually try to limit my deep psychoanalysis of people to one per hangout but he wasnât upset

Lmfaooo the amount of nonhumans and alterhumans who immediately cry that you need to be put into a mental hospital the moment you have a 'scary' symptom of mental illness is fucking insane.
I love you nonhumans and alterhumans with delusions
I love you nonhumans and alterhumans with intrusive thoughts
I love you nonhumans and alterhumans who are mean and aggressive when faced with what some may see as mild inconveniences
I love you nonhumans and alterhumans who need praise and validation to smile just once in their damn day
I love you traumatized nonhumans and alterhumans who react with rage
I love you nonhumans and alterhumans who experience 'gross' shifts
I love you nonhumans and alterhumans who have poor hygiene because of mental health
You guys deserve the fucking world and people who don't tell you to head to a mental hospital or to seek a doctor whenever you talk about yourselves.
Keep fighting, keep struggling, keep on moving. Make the world pay if it's given you a shit hand, don't ever lie on your back for anyone but yourself. Kill those who try and change you when you don't need the change.

well, I can't say I expected the new chapter to feature Idia (metaphorically) going to (metaphorical) hell, getting a pep talk from his (metaphorical) Phantom brother which helps him finally move on once and for all from his brother's death, and (metaphorically) overblotting again to fight his way back out of (metaphorical) hell, only to have his darkest fear (non-metaphorically) come true when his mom goes through his computer and finds all his secret files. but I am glad it did!
also this is all a flashback for the purpose of explaining to our group what the heck is going on (whether or not any of it is getting through is another matter)

i've seen a couple people in the notes of this very good post about fictional polyamory by @thebibliosphere say things along the lines of "oh, i've been doing it wrong :(" or "how do i know if i did this right??" or "i should probably give up and start over, i wrote this badly :(" and. no!!!!
(i AM seeing far MORE people say "oh, this clarified and helped me so much, i think i know how to fix issues i've been having with my own story" which. YES!!!!)
listen. if you're a monogamous person who's writing a polyamorous relationship, and you've been focusing mainly on The Triad and All Three Together All The Time as the endgame, that's literally fine. that's a perfectly acceptable and strong starting point for your plotting, imo. you do not need to give up on a story that you've started like this.
but the things discussed in the post Can and Should improve your execution!
you can keep the same plot beats and overall relationship arc 100%. polyamorous relationships are infinite in their formations, every one is unique. "basically a monogamous romance but with three people" Does exist, as a relationship type. you're not hashtag Misrepresenting (TM) poly people with it
BUT i do think it will help to read up on some poly people talking about how their relationships Differ from monogamous ones.
so i have outlined some basic important concepts about polyamory.
MORE IMPORTANTLY though, i've broken down some questions that you can answer throughout the writing process to strengthen your individual dyad relationships, your individual characterization, & your characters' individual feelings/experiences. this is a writing resource have fun
future kitkat butting in to say i spent over two hours writing this and it definitely needs a readmore. it is also NOT comprehensive. but everything should be pretty simple to follow! feel free to reblog if you find it helpful yourself or just want to reward me for how gotdan long this took KSLDKFJKDL.
i've grabbed quick links for a couple of the important concepts, some have SEO pitches in them but the info largely seems to be good. (if i missed anything Egregiously Gross on these sites i should be able to update the links with better ones later, since they're under the readmore.)
sidenote: this is NOT meant to be overwhelming, despite the length. if you can't read all of this, that's Okay. you do not need to give up on your writing.
here we go:
compersion!
compersion is a BIG thing in a lot of polyamorous relationships. it's joy derived from seeing two (or more) of your partners happy together, or joy derived from seeing your partner happy with someone else.
compersion is really important as a concept because it highlights that every individual relationship within a polycule is different -- and that that's a GOOD thing. it's sort of the inverse of jealousy.
by the "inverse of jealousy," i mean that instead of feeling left out and upset and possessive, you feel happy/joyous/content.
i can use personal experience as an example: it's a Relief for me when my partners receive joy/support/sex/romance/etc that i can't (or prefer not to) give them. and i love seeing my partners make each other laugh and be silly together.
it's 100% okay for a poly triad not to be together 100% of the time, it doesn't mean that the third member is being left out or not treated equally when two people do things alone together.
(i have individual dates with my partners all the time! PLUS larger 3-and-4-person date nights.)
if the third member DOES feel jealous or left out, then the polycule can have a conversation to figure out what needs/wants aren't being met, and solve that. this happens semi-regularly in my polycule, as it will happen in any relationship (including monogamous ones)! it's just part of being an adult, sometimes you have to talk about feelings.
metamours!
a metamour is someone who is dating your partner, but ISN'T dating you. this may not be relevant for people writing closed three-person romantic sexual triads, but it's a super helpful term to know.
the linked article also lists different types of metamour relationships with some fun phrasing i hadn't heard before. the tl;dr is: sometimes you'll be domestic cohabitation friends, sometimes you'll be buddies with your own friendship, sometimes you might not interact much outside of parties, every relationship is different.
there's no one-size-fits-all requirement for metamour relationships. sometimes polyamorous people will end up dating their metamour after a while (has happened to me), sometimes polyamorous people will break up with one partner for normal life reasons, but remain friendly metamours.
the goal of polyamory is NOT for EVERYONE to fall in love. it is 100% okay if this happens in your story, it happens in real life too! but it is also 100% okay for characters to be metamours without ever becoming "more than friends."
(sidenote: try to kill any internalized "more than" that you have when it comes to friendship. friends are just as important and special and vital as partners.)
of course there are a million ways for messiness to occur with metamours within a complex polycule, exactly like with close-knit platonic friend groups. however this post is not about that! there's enough "here's how polyamory can go wrong" stuff out there already, so i'm focusing on the positives here :)
open versus closed polyamorous relationships!
i'm struggling to find an online article that reflects my experience without directly contradicting at least SOME stuff. so i'll give a quick rundown
google has a bunch of conflicting definitions of open relationships and whether open relationships are different from polyamory. the general consensus seems to be that an open relationship prioritizes one partnership (often a marriage), but that each partner can have extraneous flings or long-term commitments (most often sexual in nature).
this is not typically how i use the term wrt polyamory. the poly concept is pretty simple. a closed polyamorous relationship is one with boundaries like a monogamous one. there are multiple partners in the polycule, but they are not interested in having anybody new join said polycule.
an open polyamorous relationship tends to be more flexible -- it just means that IF someone in the polycule develops mutual feelings for a new person, it's fine for them to become part of said polycule if they want to! the relationship/person is open to newcomers.
some groups will need to negotiate this all together, others will just go "haha, you kids have fun." just depends on the individuals!
with open AND closed polyamorous relationships, the most important thing is making sure that there's respectful communication and that everyone is on the same page. but there's no one-size-fits-all way to do that.
i wish i could give you guys a prescriptive "You Must Do It This Way" guide, but that's.... basically the opposite of what polyamory is about, HAHA.
feelings for multiple people!
i was gonna tack this on to the previous section but decided it warranted its own lil bit.
a defining feature (....i'm told?) of monogamous relationships is that a monogamous person only has feelings for One individual at a time. they only want a relationship with one individual at a time. or, if they DO have feelings for multiple people simultaneously, they're still only comfortable dating one person at a time & being exclusive with that one person.
this is perfectly fine!
the poly experience is generally different from this. but once again..... polyamorous people all have different individual perspectives on this.
for me, i have never been able to draw hard boxes around romantic vs sexual vs platonic relationships, & i love many people at once. my personal polycule lacks many strict definitions beyond "these are my chosen people, i want to forge a life with them indefinitely, whatever shape that life takes"
some poly people feel explicit romantic or sexual attraction to multiple people at once, some poly people feel almost no romantic or sexual attraction at all. i'd say that MOST poly people feel different things for different partners, which is not a bad thing!
some poly people are even monogamous-leaning -- they have just chosen one romantic partner who is themselves part of a larger polycule. (so this monogamous-leaning person has at least one metamour!)
or alternatively, they might have one romantic partner AND a qpr, or other ways of defining relationships. (this is a factor in my own polycule!)
i made this its own point because if you're writing a straightforward triad, this is unlikely to come up in the story itself -- but it's worth thinking about how your characters develop/handle feelings outside of their partnerships.
like, is this sort of a soulmateship, 'these are the only ones for me' type deal? in which they won't fall in love with anyone else, and can be fairly certain of that?
that's pretty close to typical monogamous standards but you Can make it work. just be thoughtful with it
alternatively, can you see any of these characters falling in love Again after the happily-ever-after? and how would the triad approach it, if so? what would they all need to talk about beforehand, and what feelings would everybody have about the situation?
it's worth considering these questions even if the hypothetical will never feature in your actual canon, because knowing the answers to these questions will help you understand all of the individuals & their relationship(s) MUCH better.
i've been typing this for nearly two hours and there's a lot more i COULD say because... there's just a lot to say. i'll close out with some quick questions that you can ask yourself when developing the dyad dynamics within your triad
first, take a page and create a separate section for each individual dyad. then answer these questions for every pair:
how does each pair act when alone?
how do they act differently alone compared to when they're with their third partner?
are there any elements of this dyad (romantic, sexual, financial, domestic, etc) that these two people DON'T have with the third partner?
if so, what are they?
are there any boundaries or hard limits within this dyad that aren't shared with the third partner?
if so, what are they?
partner 3 goes out of town alone for a few weeks. what are the remaining two doing in their absence?
(doesn't have to be anything special, it's just to get a sense of how the two interact on a day-by-day basis without the third there)
what is something that each partner in the dyad admires about the other -- that they DON'T necessarily see in the third partner?
what problem do These Two Specifically need to solve in the story before their relationship will work?
how is that problem DIFFERENT from the problems being solved within the other two dyads?
doing this for ALL THREE dyads is VITAL imo. that way, you develop complex and nuanced and different relationships that all have unique dynamics.
those questions should be enough to get you started, i hope
then After you've charted the differences in relationships, you can start to jot down similarities in the overarching triad. what does one person admire in Both of their partners? what are activities that all three like to do together? what are boundaries or discussions that all three share?
but the main goal is to figure out how to Differentiate each relationship!
a polycule is only as strong as the individual relationships within it. if two people are struggling with their own relationship, adding a third person won't fix that.
(UNLESS the third person is the catalyst for those two to, like, Actually Communicate And Work Their Shit Out. i just mean that the old adage of "maybe if we just add a third-" works about as well to fix a miserable non-communicative marriage as, uh, "maybe if we have a baby-")
AND FINALLY.
if you're not sure whether your poly romance reads organically to poly people, you can hire a sensitivity reader with poly experience. if you can't afford that, you can read up on polyamorous resources like a glossary of terms & articles actually written by poly people. (and stories written by poly people!)
you can also just.... ask poly people questions, if they're open to it. i like talking about polyamory and my own relationships so you're welcome to send asks if u want, i just can't guarantee i'll answer bc my energy levels fluctuate a lot and i don't always have time.
polyamorous people are in an uphill battle for positive representation right now & so the LAST thing i want to see is authors giving up on their stories bc they're worried about getting things Wrong. well-meaning and positive stories that treat this kind of love as normal, healthy, & aspirational are So So So Needed. even if you guys end up with some funky-feeling details.
seriously, if you're monogamous then you probably don't have a full idea of Just How Nasty a lot of people can get about polyamory. i wish it DIDN'T mean so much for you guys to want to write nice stories about us, but it does mean a lot. and it means a lot that you want to do it WELL.
in conclusion. this is not a prescriptive guide, it's just a way to raise questions. and also, you all are doing FINE.
#thebibliosphere i apologize for tagging u when we don't know each other at all i just want u to get credit for the initial discussion#given that it is so much more thoughtful and clear than anything i'd think to write.#i did NOT mean to spend multiple hours on this but once i started writing i was like#oh god i actually do have like a lot i can tell monogamous people about writing poly people & the poly perspective#anyway. i mention it in the post but people can send me (respectful. obviously) asks if they have questions#i cant promise to answer all of them bc i am bad at this. but if i'm well enough then i'll try#polyamory#non-monogamy#ethical non-monogamy#writing#my writing#writing advice#relationships

i so badly want one of those fic examinations of steve's relationship with joyce and hopper but solely through eddie's pov like hear me out
steve and eddie chat a lot in the upside down (and later in the hospital, when they learn hop is alive). steve has taken charge of filling eddie in on the rest of their of-age crew without the kids butting in. he never mentions his own parents, but he talks about the rest of the party's a lot, especially joyce and hopper. eddie knows what it's like to desperately want someone to be your parent and trying to hide it from his own childhood, when he would try to be cool about wayne dropping him off at his dad's house. steve obviously adores joyce and hopper, thinks the world of them and legitimately looks up to them.
eddie isn't sure what he expects from a cop who came back to life and the world's most determined housewife, but he's excited to meet them as someone steve loves.
cue eddie's horror when he realizes that neither of them really feel much for steve rather than annoyance and vague distrust. that joyce trusts will with eddie, an accused murderer, in a heartbeat and still hesitates to leave him with steve. that hopper brushes off every ounce of steve's hero worship and joy.
he tries to broach the topic with steve, gently, and is heartbroken when steve genuinely has no idea what he's talking about. and not because he's oblivious, but because steve thinks that's what he deserves. he thinks that's the parental love that someone who was an asshole in high school needs, because that's what would make him a good person. he needs people to call him out constantly, obviously, because why else would they keep doing it? why would nancy? at least they're here. at least they're not ignoring him. at least they're not forcing him into a box. they just want him to be better.
like, this is the man who thanked a girl for calling him bullshit and telling him she never loved him. he doesn't Know that's not how you're supposed to handle things. no one ever taught him that.
and now eddie's gotta figure out how he can teach steve how to be loved the right way without outing himself and his huge crush on his love-starved dork of a friend.
#shut up az#steddie#i just had the flash of eddie in a hospital bed staring up at hopper and the way he talks to steve in horror#like hopper saying something off the cuff about how he's not surprised there was so much collateral with steve in charge#and eddie thinking about steve always putting himself in harm's way#and the way steve got mauled by bats way before eddie did and then KEPT. GOING. but no one is mentioning that#no one is mentioning that steve was the first one of their group physically hurt by this.#and steve is just nodding like he agrees and eddie doesn't want to be rude bc these ppl are obviously Important to his friends#and then Mike comes in later and says something Mike-y and Eddie snaps at him#then he has to apologize because Mike is a stupid kid who loves Steve in his own way#and Eddie shouldn't blame him for the behavior of adults who should no better just because Mike is an easier target#anyway Eddie doesn't know how to have parents right either so he ropes Jeff and Lucas and Gareth and Robin into OP: Teach Steve Self-Worth

Sundayâs worldview sucks, his outlook and perception of himself and others sucks⊠and thatâs why heâs so interesting
In honor of his drip marketing releasing tonight (or maybe yesterday for you depending on when I get this out), Iâd like to talk about why I think Sundayâs beliefs and perspective is very, very flawed and how his own biases rather than the actions of those who oppose him are what led to his downfall.
Sunday is entirely responsible for his own failure, and thatâs exactly why heâs incredible.
This contains mentions of leaks and spoilers for the Penacony quest line⊠you have been warned
To start with, oh my lord do Sundayâs preconceived notions kick him in the ass.Â
I think the best example of this is his conversation with Dr. Ratio in which Ratio pretends to betray Aventurine, selling out his plan to Sunday. Now, whatâs incredibly interesting about this exchange is that Ratio doesnât fully lie to Sunday once in this exchange, rather he says half truths and makes vague statements which Sunday himself interprets as being in support of him.Â
Take what Ratio said the whole, âA scholar knows their position and wouldnât forsake it for the sake of petty pride.â In retrospect, we know this line is actually referring to Aventurine- aka Ratio is saying heâs not just going to sell him out to Sunday for the sake of information about the Stellaron (which he would get anyways if the IPC attained Penacony, plus Mr. Incredibly Dedicated Knowledge Spreader probably has other means of gaining it then through The Family).Â
However, since Ratio answered the invitation Sunday gave him, Sunday assumes that Ratio is on his side, believes his cause is righteous, and that he won Ratio over with offering him information about the Stellaron, therefore making that previous statement of Ratioâs null, because Sunday interpreted it as, âconvince me this is worth my time + prove to me youâre correct,â when it really meant, âthere is no way in hell Iâm about to sacrifice my friend to you, and there is nothing you could offer me to make me do so you crazed lunatic.â
But why did Sunday not weigh the options? Why did he unquestioningly believe his perception of the situation was the correct one?
Well- partly itâs because Ratio and Aventurine were doing their damndest to make it seem like they hate each other and that their plan was going off the rails.
But the more important part is that even without Ratio saying a word or even accepting the invitation, Sunday already believes heâd be on his side.Â
Let me demonstrate this through Sunday's perspective:
I am a righteous person, I am doing the correct things, my worldview is the correct one. Dr. Ratio is also a righteous person who seems to be doing the correct things. Therefore, since we are both on the side of good, and Aventurine is clearly not on that side considering his status as Stoneheart and his negative relationship to Ratio, then Ratio will naturally want to be on my side. After all, the good guys work together, do they not?- and together will vanquish this evil villain.
This perspective is a simple one, but Sundayâs unshaking belief (up until the end of 2.2) that he is 100% in correct and in the right, that any and everyone who he also perceives to be in the right (like Ratio) would believe/side with him without truly needing to be convinced. Sunday doesnât come out the gate offering the Stellaron information- he only keeps it as a backup just in case.Â
However, this is complicated because Sunday is also not an idiot, and heâs extremely paranoid, so heâs going to make sure that the way he views the world is 100% correct on the off chance heâs wrong which could foil his plans- which is why he invited Ratio in the first place. Nevertheless, this isnât him hunting for new perspectives, but rather him desiring to prove himself right again, which is a bad thing because Sunday is very much not right.Â
A perfect world is a perfect pris- *gets shot*
Reference that approximately 2 Âœ people will get beside, Sundayâs ideology that he is fully confident in.. sucks. It sucks ass, itâs terrible, and let me explain.
Iâm not going to try going over all the little intricacies to how the dreamscape works because I a) donât know and b) donât particularly care because they arenât relevant to the argument I will be making- which is that Sundayâs ideology is inherently flawed and immediately falls apart under scrutiny.
Essentially, he desires to create the perfect fake reality, enveloping the whole galaxy in Enaâs dream and fulfilling their every desire and whim within it, with himself as the sacrifice to allow it to exist. The seven rest days, no illness, no pain, no challenge, you get the idea.Â
And, this perfect world paradoxically sucks ass because of its perfectness.
Improving society is great, eliminating hardship is great, increasing quality of life is great.
But declawing reality itself- absolutely not.
Iâm going to try to explain this through my favorite strangely specific anecdote- the process of obtaining diamonds in Minecraft.
Stay with me now.
You essentially have two options- go out and mine them yourselves the hard way, which takes hours, gives you less diamonds per the amount of time spent on it, and likely with you exhausting some of your resources like food, torches, and tools which you will need to replenish.
Or.
You can just.. get them from creative mode or commands, and you can get as many as your heart desires.
However, despite the fact that option one is harder, gives you less diamonds and takes significantly more time, I, as well as hopefully you, would pick it every time (at least in a survival world, although honestly idk why you would even need pure diamonds in creative).
And thatâs because the first option is rewarding.Â
You did not earn the diamonds you easily and magically summoned into your inventory, there is no struggle, no journey, no challenge to it, therefore it feels entirely unremarkable, as compared to the feeling you (hopefully) get from mining diamonds, which makes you happy because you earned it. Yeah, it was harder, but the process itself is fun- the anticipation of not knowing when youâre going to find them, if at all, the danger, the fighting and digging and mauvering you will have to do in the process.
And with this unconventional example, the fatal flaw with Sundayâs ideology is revealed- itâs boring.Â
Itâs boring as shit.
Yeah, for the first few months or even years it might be enjoyable- having everything you could ever want served on a silver platter. However, humans are a) inherently a bit greedy and b) desire challenge, and this scenario fulfilles neither of those things. Naturally having everything means your desire for more can never be fulfilled, leaving the wanter forever unsatisfied, whereas in the real world, things are truly out of your reach, meaning that even if you never end up getting them, they are still a tangible thing just out of reach⊠as strange at it sounds, we like being tantalilus-ed more than you think. After all, if what you want is so easy to get, you will never run out of things to want, and eventually that gets draining.Â
Continually, if everything is easy, if everything is just right there whenever you want it- existence itself no longer has stakes.Â
And thatâs the problem, because much like how a story with no stakes is extremely hard to find compelling, a life with no stakes feels boring at best and downright pointless and meaningless at worst.
Iâm just saying, there is a reason why the Nihility was such a strong presence and problem in Penacony.
Anyways, like with the diamond problem, a lack of stakes means that nothing you do feels rewarding, because you didnât truly earn it.Â
Which is where the Sundayâs idea of a âperfectâ reality falls apart, because the most enjoyable reality for humans to live in is not one literally devoid of any possible flaw.
So why does he believe in it? When itâs so clearly flawed?
Well, itâs because Sunday doesnât think a better alternative exists.
The world made you this way.. and you chose to continue what it started.
Iâm sure I donât need to repeat the story of the Charmony Dove all over again because trust me, weâve all heard it before. Nonetheless, it reveals something important both about Sundayâs personality and his ideology- heâs fundamentally a defeatist.
He doesnât believe that there is any alternative for the dove, that it could ever be able to fly again with its deformed nature, so instead of being âcruelâ and letting it âinevitably fall to its death,â heâd rather keep it in a cage all its life where it has no freedom, but at least it would he alive and âhappyâ.
And this is where his defeatism reveals itself- Sunday doesnât believe reality itself can get better because improving it when there are so many factors and things out of your control is hard at best and impossible at worst. Therefore, he resorts to creating an escapist, false version of it- a perfect golden cage, because constructing that is far, far easier than trying to help the dove fly again.Â
The universe has endless possibilities, if Robin and Sunday had tried hard enough, they probably could have found a solution. Sure, they were both children, so the capabilities necessary to even attempt that were likely far out of their reach. However, it was still possible, but Sunday doesnât believe in possibilities- he believes heâs right above all else, which is where that stubbornness and arrogance comes into play again.
Sunday doesnât think better solutions than his exists, and he believes everyone would could possibly stand in his noble way are either villains, or horribly misguided; so itâs his job to show them the light.
This is why he lets the Express Crew + Firefly try to change his mind- Sunday wasnât actually interesting in shifting his perspective, or really what they wanted to say. Rather, he just wanted to let them say there peace, because well, Sundayâs a good, righteous person (at least from his perspective), and good, righteous people listen to others. Good, righteous people will let these poor, ignorant souls offer their foolish words before exposing them to the harsh truth- or at least thatâs how Sunday sees it.Â
Moreover, this also explains his arrogance. If he believes his worldview is the sole correct one, then why listen to anyone else? Heâs this world's savior, or at least heâs been raised to believe that- so why not relish in it? He enjoys punishing Aventurine, enjoys the bastard who stood in the way of Sundayâs plans, shrinks away in âdefeatâ and get what he âdeserves.â Despite how miserable it sounds, Sunday also takes pride in having to be a martyr to bring about his beautiful dream. The belief that he is a selfless, good person is a selfish desire of his, even if a genuine one, and itâs what leads to his downfall.
Sunday could have actually listened. He could have reevaluated his loss to Aventurine and realized it was not through the others clever deception, but through his own biases. He could have actually taken the Expressâs and Fireflyâs advice. He could have looked for other avenues to help the people he truly does care about.Â
Despite Gopher Woodâs manipulation- Sundayâs decision to go forward with the pain is entirely his own, because he truly believes- even with all the evidence for the contrary- that he is correct.
And thatâs why he fails. Not because of the Express. Not because of Ratio. Not because of Aventurine. Not because of Gopher, or even the rest of The Family.
No, Sunday fails because he is flawed, and he is wrong, and he is the arrogant, selfish and biased one, and his worldview is wrong.
So what now?
This might have seemed like I think Sunday is pure evil and irredeemable, but I think itâs quite the opposite.
He has very good intentions, and he does genuinely care about it the well being of other people around him. He gives Aventurine a chance to prove his innocence, even if he never intended on changing, he does listen to what the Express + Firefly have to say. He pauses when Robin shows up, as sheâs the one person (until the very end) heâs actually willing to accept the perspective of. The whole reason he ended up here in the first place is because Gopher Wood twisted Sundayâs good intentions into a fatal arrogance and utmost belief in a flawed worldview.Â
However, what really sells me on Sundayâs goodness is when eyes widen at that final moment, the light draining from him as he realizes he is wrong.Â
And once Sunday realizes he is wrong, those flaws that bind him can finally be examined and improved upon, as they all stem from that worldview he no longer believes in.Â
His whole life, Sunday has been enacting out someone elseâs plan for him, even if heâs come to internalize it over time, at the end of the day- it was never his, and without it, heâs empty.
Which is exactly why the only place he can go now is the Express, and the only thing left for him is redemption and growth.
Dan Heng is right- Sunday has a noble soul, and now that he has stopped believing in himself, heâs no longer shackled by the past either. Improvement or utter demise (in a likely nihility-flavored manner) are his only options remaining.
I understand a lot of people want to see him become a Stellaron Hunter, but imo, that just does nothing for him. Heâd still be following someone elseâs path/script, and Mr. I Will Sacrifice My Whole Existence To Become The Sun To Illuminate These Wandering Souls probably wouldnât be so on board with the whole.. terrorism part of being a SH. Like yeah, they are our friends (kinda), but they absolutely kill innocent people and cause millions of dollars in property damage to people who donât deserve it.Â
Also, being on the Express Just Makes Sense. This is a game about choices, a game about accepting the mistakes of your past, but not letting them define you in order to move on and forge a better future for yourself and others- with the Astral Express + Trailblaze as a concept being the literal embodiment of it. Thereâs a reason when you switch to the Trailblazerâs POV in stories, it includes Kafkaâs most important words to us- âWhen you have the chance to make a choice, make one you wonât regret.â
Therefore, I hope the choices Sunday will make in 2.7 are ones heâs proud of, and I canât wait to see how exactly they get him on board with the crew, because there still is a LOT of development he needs to do before then.Â
Anyways, thank you so much for reading, and if you have any thoughts Iâd love to hear them. This was a stream of consciousness mess, but I hope it was still valuable nonetheless! Also if you are reading this on the day it was written, I hope we donât get disappointed by his drip marketing!

Jimmy's apology to Curly is bullshit. At least it is to me. First the only thing Jimmy is apologizing for is taking the Captain position from Curly. Nothing else. Because it's just Jimmy handing responsibility over to Curly again, you know scapegoating him. This is why he doesn't apologize to Daisuke or Swansea despite clearly feeling bad about them. This is why he doesn't even think of Anya.
Jimmy's not actually sorry for hurting Curly. There's no "Sorry I beat you and force fed you meds" or "Sorry I verbally abused you in front of the entire crew" or even "Sorry I ate your leg". Instead we get "You were right being Captain is hard, you be Captain again cause you're better than me. Also let me pretend to save you so I feel like a hero". Yeah Jimmy's only sorry he got himself into more trouble than he could handle even if he feels bad about how some of the crew ended up.
#So like every time the apology is brought up people mention that Anya deserved an apology#And she absolutely does!#It's just the way people say it implies that Curly doesn't deserve an apology#that he isn't a victim#And like Jimmy ate him#He's a victim#Anya and Curly deserve so much from Jimmy that apologies are meaningless imo#But they should have both gotten proper ones anyway#Daisuke and Swansea too!#mouthwashing#curly mouthwashing#jimmy mouthwashing#captain curly

Writing Advice: Give Your Characters Agency
Have you ever read a story where it felt like the protagonist was being personally guided by the author?
When a character has to always rely on their love interest, friends, allies, and even enemies in order to get from point A to point B
When the only reason a character is even on their journey is because they're the "Chosen One" or God themselves is literally dragging this random along.
Well, you probably hated this character because they lacked Agency.
Agency is defined as when a person makes a specific action, hoping to garner a certain result.
Agency is goal, motive, and plan. A person wants(motive) something(goal) so they try to get it(action).
Based on this definition, it's incredibly hard to write a compelling protagonist and story without agency.
Agency is what makes an interesting plot as plot is based on "what is a character willing to do in order to get their goal".
If your protagonist never tries to do anything and whenever they do try to do something, it never impacts the surrounding world either negatively or positively, you've managed to written a story that has squandered all it's potential.
You might be saying "What about characters who are trapped in these circumstances, trapped in general, or Fate?"
Well let me tell you, I don't know where you got the assumption that all abused/kidnapped individuals just stopped thinking and desiring when the abuse happened but it's wrong!
Maybe your abused character is trying to leave their circumstances so they make some decisions to seperate themselves.
Maybe your abused character is trying to help their abuser so they make decisions that help their abuser.
Maybe they're planning something!
Also, for the Fate thing. You could have your characters actively fighting Fate? Nevermind if they succed or fail!
You could have the existence of Fate be a plot twist?
There is just no proper excuse to not write a character that doesn't make decisions to get what they want!
If you didn't want to write a Point Of View character that interacts with the world you could've written an omniscient character who is travelling around. Or a narrator who is reading the journals of the actual main character(like in Book Thief).
If you didn't want to make this character have an impact on the world, you could have chosen a different character to be the protagonist!

mdni - a messy zoro thirst that is a continuation of this thought (zoro has an oral fixation) <3 reader has breasts and a vagina.
maybe itâs because he always has a sword in that smart ass mouth of his. maybe itâs because he canât simply sit stillâhe needs to keep some part of his body moving. maybe itâs because he spent well over two decades of his life without physical affection.
whatever it is, when youâre alone with zoro, heâs bound to get his mouth on you one way or another.
âstop beinâ difficult,â zoro huffs as he hovers over you, the faintest lilt of amusement lacing his tone. a hulking hand crosshatched with scars encircles both of your wrists, pinning them above you to rest on the wooden floor.
the swordsman is so strong that jerking your arms with all your might doesnât move his steel grip an inch. he licks his lips and they split into a devious grin, cheeks dimpling.
âzoroooo. mâtired,â you whine, resorting to an emotional plea.
âwhyâd you join me for night watch then, hm?â he taunts. the hand that isnât restraining yours rests firmly on your belly.
âwanted to spend time with you.â your sweet admission makes his heart flutter, but he refuses to give you any latitude.
âand you are, baby,â he says smugly. his free hand dances down to the hem of your shirt, slipping underneath, rough fingertips grazing against your flesh to rest atop the waistband of your shorts.
the airy sigh you breathe lets him know that he has won, but his hand doesnât move any further, his lone eye searching yours for approval. he tsks as you hold his gaze in defiance. he shifts to bring a large knee up to rest snugly between your soft thighs and chuckles when you stifle a moan.
âcâmon,â he entreats, resting his forehead hotly against yours. âlet me have a treat since iâve gotta stay up all night.â
âfine,â you whisper, too tired and riled up to hold him off any longer, no bite to your voice.
the word has barely left your lips before he pulls down your shorts and underwear and presses your knees to your chest. zoro brings his face down to your sticky cunt, hot breath and intense stare sending a shiver through your body. his eye flickers up to yours and doesnât waver as he lets a glistening string of spit drip from between his chapped lips onto your swollen clit. he dips down to smear the spit with a chaste kiss.
âjusâ enjoy,â he rasps before utterly devouring you until youâre a whimpering, overstimulated mess. after that heâll nip at and suckle on your tits until heâs ready to go back down and suck on your clit until you cry.
you just have to take it.

Behind the Scenes of The Star Beast - Part Eight
Excerpts from Benjamin Cook's Star Beast Set Visit - discussing the Camden night shoots:
Is nobody here having a bad time?? WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM? "I had a little lull earlier," admits David, "at 2AM when we were waiting to turn over- I definitely yawned, maybe twice - but then the blood starts pumping again." Wrap isn't till 3AM. David lives across town. Isn't he worried he'll wake up his family when he gets in? "Listen, the kids are at Davison's," he says (this is Fifth Doctor actor Peter Davison, who happens to be David's father-in-law), "so I'm full of beans. Oh, and sugar. Do you want some?" He's bought a churro from a market stall that's stayed open because it's very much in shot. "You can have more than that." He breaks me off a bigger piece. "The sugar rush will do you good." He offers the director [ Rachel Talalay ] some too: "Go on, Rachel, you deserve it." "Are you doing OK?" she asks him. "Yeah! Sugar! I'll move on to the Yorkie bars next. I give not a fudge at this time in the morning." He claps his hands, dusting off the sugar from his churro. "But are you OK?" "I am at this moment," she says, waving to some fans. "Tomorrow at 4:30AM I might not be. Ask me again then." "You do get a lot of love from the fans, don't you?" says David. "In a tiny way, which is just lovely. I mean, I'm not you," she says, with a laugh. "I love hearing them scream for you. But I'm not used to any of this. And⊠I think it's stopped raining." "OK, here we go," says Scott. "Let's go for one. Stand by then, folksâŠ" They go for another take. And another. When I catch up with Rachel later â much later, itâs October 2023, and sheâs chatting over Zoom from her home in Vancouver â weâre five weeks away from The Star Beast airing on TV. âI didnât know quite how well the episode was working,â she says, âtill my family watched an almost-finished cut. I came downstairs, and my two girls were crying. It was like, oh, OK, this does work! And on a much, much deeper level too. To have them go, âWe knew it would be full of joyâ â which I think it is â âbut we didnât expect it to be so emotional,â that was very satisfying. It was an emotional time all round.â It was. In more ways than one. Which is something that Rachel wants to talk about â here in DWM â for the first time publicly. âI think I can now,â she says, âbecause Iâm close to two years in remission. I will be this month. Two years in remission. And Doctor Who really helped heal me. Directing Doctor Who while I was only a couple of months post-chemo.â A deep breath. âI had lymphoma,â she explains. âIâd been in chemo for seven or eight months. I wasnât sure if I was going to survive. Then I was offered The Star Beast. I thought, Iâve got to do this. I didnât tell anybody I was sick. I hadnât told anybody except very close family. And I didnât tell anyone on Doctor Who till I was there long enough to say, âLook, Iâm well enough, so I donât want you worried about me.â Because, frankly, I donât know that theyâd have wanted to hire someone who might not have made it through the shoot. I totally get that. Thatâs fair enough. [...] âI could not have been surrounded by a more supportive crew,â says Rachel. âThe best crew in the world. When I realised, itâs all night shoots, I thought, oh god, and Iâm two months post-chemo. But that crew â David especially â made those night shoots so fun. Itâs weird now, because I look back at the pictures â like that lovely one of me and David you published last issue â and that was my chemo hair. I was just getting my hair back. But I got healthier and healthier, stronger and stronger, as the shoot went on. When I got back to Canada, the doctor said, âYouâre a poster child for how well someone can do after chemo. This is what people are capable of.â âBut itâs just what you do,â she reflects, âisnât it? â when you love Doctor Who in your heart so much. There was no better place for me than Doctor Who.â
