random 3 am Malevolent thought about exactly how John has Arthur’s eyes
we know that John doesn’t actually control Arthur’s eyes; the Butcher asking him what’s wrong with his eyes. his pupils don’t focus on anything. so if John doesn’t actually possess Arthur’s eyes, how does he see what Arthur sees?
he controls Arthur’s occipital lobe. which would also be why Arthur doesn’t have spacial awareness on his own; i.e. when he ran into the dock early in the series. as when theres something wrong with the eyes themselves, the brain can still process objects, because their occipital lobe is still in tact. however if there is damage to the occipital lobe, it can be lost. if John controls Arthur’s though, he would lose that too. which we see in the series
I know it’s supernatural and it might be silly to explain exactly how these things work but my brain brought it up and I had to express it cause humans are weird, and brains are weird, and John controlling an actual full part of Arthur’s brain I feel in a way adds to the horror of it. like a fucked up puppeteer. not controlling everything, but having just enough control to be vital for their survival. while yes Arthur could, in normal circumstances, survive on his own, obviously, as blind people exist, would he be able to survive the abnormal shit he lands himself in? likely not
OH MY GOD THE LACK OF SPACIAL AWARENESS WOULD ALSO EXPLAIN WHY HE FALLS INTO HOLES SO OFTEN

a while ago you said that Starclan cats design kittens and customize them with patterns and colors from their parents genes. So, do the clan cats raise any eyebrows when it comes to people who know cat genetics? Is there a geneticist who is holding their head wondering how these two cats have this colored kit while their starclan designer was just playing around? Or do the Starclan designers still have to stay within the rules?
Basically, do the humans notice that some of these clan cats are sparkle cats lol
I try to not get too "lost in the weeds" since the humans aren't the focus of the story, just taking care that they DO have real motivations behind their actions rather than construction crews materializing out of nowhere to Do A Chaos, but...
First, the genetics of cats in Albion are different than humans in equivalent Great Britain.
Partially, this is because I honestly just don't really enjoy learning about in-depth genetics or applying them realistically. I like drawing anime characters and writing anime battles, so they have anime genetics. But more than that, off-screen, the intelligence of cats has altered the timeline of this world.
If cats really were capable of higher thinking, that totally would have had some butterfly effects. I like dropping crazy alt-history and then not elaborating on it, because it's funny. Archimedes' cat helped him invent a death ray, btw.
On that note of genetics though, you guessed right. StarClan designers DO have to work with what they have. Whatever the genetics of this alternate universe of cats are, every kit born still abides by the laws of nature.
Which brings me to...
Second, the researchers do notice that the Clan cats are special. In fact, there is a "study of magic" in this universe-- Thaumatology. "The science of wonder."
(There's no world where magic actually factually exists that science isn't all over it lmao)
Thaumatology facts I haven't shared so far since it's all offscreen and just Bonus Worldbuilding;
It is a "soft science," not a hard one.
It has a LOT of problems with replicability. Thaumatologists and Quantum Physicists have a lot of in-jokes.
The most well known (to the point of being a cliche) is "magic and quantum particles both hate being watched."
Magic is highly variable based on a bajillion very personal factors, like emotion, environment, culture, personal background, etc, so it's severely difficult to re-create it in controlled environments.
Thaumatology has a lot of overlap with sociology, archeology, and theology, so people from these fields work together a lot.
There was absolutely not a dedicated Thaumatologist working in the Research Team early on, sadly.
It was probably discovered when the Battle of the True Eclipse blew out a bunch of field cameras.
It's pretty common that photography equipment fritzes out a bit during "supernatural" times like eclipses, but the damage was extensive enough to be noteworty
The Clan cats were initially notable just for the fact they had advanced culture.
Cats are usually comparable to crows and monkeys, in this universe. So cats with fire and a crude writing system were enough to SHAKE the field of zoology.
The fact they're cats helped a lot. The public loves cats, enough that since their discovery after Speckletail attacked a bulldozer, massive outcry has secretly helped the Clans several times.
The discovery that the culture also has Thaumatological elements is more of a goldmine for a scientist than the public, though.
It's common knowledge that "animals are magic," because humanity projects traits onto them. "Of course they do, they're cats...?"
The Thaumatologist is freaking out because "THE CAT IS PROVABLY DOING ITS OWN THAUMATURGY"
Most people don't know the difference between Thaumaturgy (the functional work it does on the world) and Thaumology (the study of that as a whole), so this particular scientist is going to have a hard time explaining WHY this distinction is so special.
(And possibly even offensive to certain groups, who would insist only humans are capable of this)
In any case, eventually there would be Thaumatological interest in the Clan cats, but they weren't there in the mid to late 2010s when BB!ASC takes place.

Mae being absolutely pissed off because Noa should be mad at her and yelling or trying to threaten or do something to her, but instead, he just asks if they could ever live in peace someday. Like, why, after everything that happened, is he still a good guy? Can't he just give her reasons for everything she believes and has been taught to still make sense? Does he really have to make it so difficult for her? I imagine her feeling terribly frustrated, angry, and at the same time moved and guilty. Someone please give this girl a break because she's dealing with too many emotions in a world where benzos no longer exist—please, a little mercy.

One of the things that makes Brennan such a good DM is that he is never anything less than delighted to get womped by his players. A lesser DM is upset when a player finds a way out of a trap but Brennan always had the energy of "Damn, you got me. My friends are so smart :)" and I love that.

Desmond having a bleeding effect episode while in the middle of a fight and tries to reach for a weapon that should be there but is met with nothing as the realization dawns on him that he is in the 21st century and no one uses swords anymore so obviously he wouldn't have one and now he's fucked as the guy is charging right at him and desmond literally has no weapons

so since Caesar was raised by humans it means he has no idea how apes do some things and it cracks me up thinking of him as the most oblivious bloke whenever cornelia would flirt with him
cornelia: *making lovey dovey eyes at caesar* *shares food with him* *sits with him in the evening and helps groom him etc*
caesar, confused but appreciated: hello yes thank you :)
caesar, later: idk she isnt as mean to me anymore and shares her food with me and sits with me in the evenings and we groom each other so maybe she kinda likes me?
rocket, suffering secondhand embarrassment and exasperation of watching Caesar's total obliviousness to Cornelia's flirting for the last two weeks and is about to burst a vein: yeah caesar maybe she does
and like i mentioned earlier that blue eyes inherited his father's dense mind of course so does cornelius. so years down the line Cornelius is an adolescent and has perfected the art of not taking a hint whenever some ape is flirting with him
rocket, watching with tears in his eyes as cornelius fails to take a hint for the umpteenth time: oh caesar it's like you're right here with us. you and your lineage of stupid

Having seen Kingdom for a second time, I can kind of see what some folks meant when they said it's kind of slow. I'm guessing they're talking about the first half, especially of scenes of noa struggling on his quest to get his clan back, and you watch him be so alone, and be taunted by eagle sun, bearing all that silence and loudness all by himself. I can see why people who have no patience for character interiority would think that all of that could've been cut out. Not me, though. I love that stuff. I love scenes between characters where nothing is said, but their actions and expressions tell everything.

In The Hunter Au, Wirt basically turned into The Beast's pet. But not like a dog or a cat, is more like having a ape as your pet...
Just saying.

Hi Pia
Why did Gary growl and cover Efnisien's face/mouth when he said the safeword? Was he angry and trying to stop Efnisien from saying it so he could continue? If yes how did he manage to pull himself back from the brink of doing something unforgivable?
I think Gary was so uncoordinated in that moment, he wasn't thinking 'I need to shut you up' but there was definitely an instinct of: 'How dare someone tell me to stop.'
There was a visceral war with himself when he growls vs. when he places his hand on Efnisien's face, almost like he's trying to feel his breathing and his voice. It's a very quick motion, and while Efnisien assumes it's to shut him up, I actually think Gary was literally very out of it in that moment and was kind of bracing himself to even understand what happened.
Like, this is a guy who didn't respond to a lot of basic language and sentences for three days, or when he did, mostly could only do so in basic sentences or even single words. So while the peak alpha grokked the 'how dare you' pause, I think it was like a 'wait is an alpha trying to stop me from taking what is mine' level of confusion. He places his hands on Efnisien's face, almost like he's trying to find where the words came from, in my mind. Like someone who is blind who is trying to find a fan switch in a new place. They don't quite know where it is, but they know it's important in hot weather.
He then does hear more of Efnisien's voice (in the form of a distressed shriek) and immediately stops.
I really don't think this is as clean as 'he was fully aware, heard something he didn't want to hear, and made a choice to make sure Efnisien couldn't safeword again.' I don't even think he knew at the time what he heard, or how to understand it, only that he heard it and that he had to stop.
If yes how did he manage to pull himself back from the brink of doing something unforgivable?
Tbh Gary has the safeword to literally stop himself from doing the unforgiveable. And he does it with an immense amount of willpower that almost no human will ever really comprehend. Dude was barely even conscious at the time. Just like Efnisien spent many hours in a heavily dissociated receptive headspace, Gary does the same but from a more dominating peak alpha side. Literally just ruled by hormones in a very primitive way.
I'd say he's one of the only peak alphas in the world who can actually listen to a safeword at all in that state. I don't even think Temsen could.
